wondering if I am going to regret it now, although most of these figures are quite rare and good on their own, I don't see myself displaying this ugly as fuck Leia

Does anyone own this, and/or the Black Series version?
I just saw Rogue One with my boyfriend and he really liked K-2SO, so I'd like to surprise him with a figure. I've done some research and it looks like the Black Series fig has better articulation than the Disney one, but he owns a few of the die-cast metal ships so I know he likes that. Need some more opinions on which is the superior toy.

Worst case, that's about 20 each for at least 5 figures that are above average. Even if you don't like leia, I guarantee you'll be able to get rid of her for at least retail.

>>6114878
I think people have stayed away from them since they came out with the force awakens, but the elite line is mostly bad. Floppy joints, weird paint problems, and sketchy faces, though that's not really a problem with K-2. The joints thing could really kill a lanky dude like him, though.

The black series version is definitely one of the better releases in that line, I don't really think you could go wrong with that one. There are other options, but I don't think the extra cost is really worth it.

First off, not the same anon, I know how you like to think everyone disagreeing with you is the same guy but not this time.

Actually the Figuarts is closer to scale with the other Black Series figures than the Black Series K2 is. Just look at 15 seconds into this video:

https://youtu.be/FdoKlFAIxdY?t=13s

Jyn (5'2) should come up to the middle part of that upside down L on K2's chest and Cassian (5'10) should be a little above it. That's how the Black Series Cassian and Jyn match up to the Figuarts, but with the Black Series K2 they're all off. Cassian is where Jyn should be and Jyn's forehead is about at the level of it's crotch. The Black Series is too tall. Not to mention K2 is 7'0 so an exact 1/12 representation of him should be 177mm, the Figuarts is 175mm. Not exactly a manlet.

The Black Series has other problems as well, the chest plate is too long and narrow, and the details on its head are terrible. The proportions are all off on the Black Series + the difference in articulation? Come on now, the Figuarts is a much better figure. Don't forget the giant sections of "chipped paint" on the sides of TBS6 that didn't actually exist on the movie K2 . It had some sections of missing paint in the movie but they were mostly small dots and scrapes on the middle of it's chestplate.

I like how you're going to respond to me by calling me a shill when I'm coming from a place of looking at the damn figures and doing some basic research and you're coming from a place of bias towards a thing you've never even seen or even bothered to check out to see if your bullshit was right.

Can somebody give the pros / cons between Black series K2-SO and the Figurearts version without being a faggot? I got the Black Series one and it's a nice sculpt and the details are good for a Black Series release, but if the figure arts is an upgrade equal to Mafex Vader or Boba Fett I might be interested.

There really isn't much difference between the two besides size.

File: R2.jpg (2MB, 1494x2071px) Image search: [Google]
R2.jpg
2MB, 1494x2071px
>>6115566
Indeed they are.

Threepio is a nicely sculpted, beautifully painted flimsy piece of shit.
I watched a dozen reviews while waiting for them to arrive, pretty much everyone said the same thing: he falls to pieces as soon as you take him out of the box.
They were 100% right. The arms fall off at the bicep, the legs fall off at the crotch, his forearms split in two, the whole body is just a wobbly mess.
I think the problem is the pegs holding his limbs don't have enough grip, and the joints themselves are quite loose, so the whole thing just ends up collapsing on itself.
I was able to fix him up by gluing his forearms together, and applying clear nail polish to all of his joints before pushing them back into place. He can stand on his own now, but I'm very reluctant to play with him or change his pose.

R2D2 is perfect, couldn't ask for a better figure. He has the best accessories out of all the currently available 1/12 scale Artoo's (in my opinion)

The two Stormtroopers on the left are Mafex. The one on the right is Revoltech, he is pretty derpy looking.
>>
>>6115553
It was a bonus for the first wave of Figuarts Vader.
>>
>>6115578
That sucks, so is Revoltech the way to go for Threepio? I don't like the matte gold as much as the chromed out look, but if it's a better import figure overall I might go for it. It's also annoying that Revoltech sells them separately, I initially wanted to go for the Mafex because they're sold together.
>>
>>6115601

>>6115601
To be honest, despite everything I just said, I'd still say the Mafex is the way to go.

The paint details and the fact that you're getting the best R2D2 with him kind of makes up for the fact that he's a QC mess. And you never know, your C3PO might be perfect right out of the box.

The revoltech looks like ass.

>>6115606
Bandai's offering looks nice too but for anyone not experienced with building model kits, painting, putting on water slide decals, it's going to stand out on a shelf of pre-painted/assembled action figures.

He looks too 'clean' in my opinion.

Don't own any star wars figures
But I've always love that universe, and am thinking of getting some of the background/minor alien characters.
Like Greedo, Bossk, Baba, Cantina band member etc

Those guys are never gonna get SHFiguarts, are they? I feel like Bandai only focuses on the major and mostly human characters. I get it though, if they're gonna spend the money making a figure that quality, why waste those resources on minor characters
Black series is my only option then?
>>
>>6116259
People just aren't willing to spend $40-$50 on minor characters. We have a pretty good spot right now as collectors actually. Figuarts/MAFEX for main characters, and black series for 20 releases a year with EU and minor characters. Most other franchises don't get this lucky.

The Black Series is too tall but we're talking about a difference of just a few millimeters here. The other issues with the Black Series like the chest plate being off and the details on the head sculpt are what make the Figuarts better, as it should be considering it's twice the price.

Figuarts is closer to K-2S0's actual size and proportions, the chest plate is more movie accurate, it's limbs are more movie accurate, and it has a far greater range of articulation, it's not even close. The eyes and details on the face are also much more accurate on the figuarts. On the Black Series there's just two white dots for the eyes and some muddy paint and sculpt work down around the mouth area, the figuarts is much cleaner and has actual eyes that look like it's eyes in the movie. As far as cons for the figuarts its basically squeeky clean and the Black Series has some weathering, although it's inaccurately applied. The feet on the figuarts are also a little small. If you don't really care about every little detail being right the Black Series is a pretty good representation for being only $20 bucks. Only get the Figuarts if you're a stickler for movie accuracy and/or most your other figures are Figuarts. If your collection is full of Black Series then the TBS6 will fit in better and you'll save 20 bucks. Despite everything I just said the differences between the two are still relatively minor. It's up to you to decide if the extra 20 bucks is worth it.

Figuarts K2 is not worth it.

Nick around with the exposure to keep it from blowing out, move the figure down in the frame or remove some of the bottom of the frame. Otherwise, cool shot.

One last thing, you also won't have to deal with importing fees if you go with Black Series. If you're just going to throw it in the back of your display then there's no real point in spending the extra money. If K2 is your favorite character and you want to make it the centerpiece of your display or something only thenI would advocate spending the extra money for the SHF.
>>
>>6116567
There's also that Black Series is just garbage in general, so you may as well go with the Figuarts.

uhhh... the only differences between those figures is the weathering and how the joints connect to the torso.

One of the things off the bat that's out of whack is the head and eyes

It's mostly just trolling and people suffering from buyers remorse.

As far as i can tell, most of the people even defending the figures have never seen them in person and are just defending because of the brand.
To make matters worse, the defenses pretty much stop when you can no longer buy the figures as easily, making them sound like import shop owners. So for a long while, figures like these stormtroopers and Vader were defended hardcore and now almost everyone admits to how bad they are.

This.

We'd never, ever get 80% of the toys we have now if the line was run like it is today. I know times change, but the decline of the Star Wars line has been one of the most depressing things ever.

When Hasbro had really hit their stride, it seemed like anything was possible. It really felt like we would end up with EVERYTHING from Star Wars. And that was kind of incredible.
>>
>>6118349
I don't understand this sentiment. We are getting tons of releases every year. Most of them are main characters because the films are new. That's like being angry that Maul and QuiGon were everywhere when TPM released. Even still, we are getting tons of characters from the animated show, and they try to fit in minor background characters whenever there is a free slot. Once the movie schedule cools down, they will shift more to minor characters as the main buyer demographic shifts back to hardcore fans. Its the same as it always was.
>>
>>6118349
And now I (we- the few still collecting) are pleased with every figure we get.
Sure there's not alot but they are good figures.

As long as Figuarts did the same they did with D-Arts Elizabeth and provide a sitting robe piece, plastic robes would be fine.

Personally, though, I'd rather get a Darth Sidious from TPM. Pic related was a really cool looking figure, and since all he did was stand around in TPM, the lack of being able to sit would be fine. Add in some Bandai Effect Lightning pieces and boom.

If anyone wants to know where my hate for 5POA and substandard articulation on 3.75 figures comes from its from buying this battlepack in Toys R Us many years ago http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCBPMFTraining.asp

I opened it and I'm greeted with awful sculpt and paintwork, a total lack of articulation and all around garbage figures, a total disappointment.

And then like rubbing salt in the wound I discovered this battlepack a few months later on rebelscum http://www.rebelscum.com/TLCBPResurgenceofJedi.asp

Which has far superior sculpt and articulation to the figures in the one I bought, only it wasn't at my store and I wasnt aware it was out, how the fuck could Hasbro sell such an inferior product at the same time they were selling a better, more articulated version of the same figures in a different battlepack at the same time, they jsut repacked some old figures from 2004 and called it a day while at the same time they were selling much better newer ones. And they covered up Obi Wan's total lack of leg joints with his soft goods thing.

It pissed me off to no end and I stopped collecting Hasbro 7.35 figures from then till the Vintage Collection came out years later.

And now this 5POA is crap is being forced and passed around as a new standard, and delusional Hasbrotards are OKAY with it. Fucking idiots. Even the 6" line I have some hate for because I have been collecting 3,75" Hasbro figures for maybe a decade now and the only ones they are making are garbage 5POA shit now, while 6" Black Series gets all the articulation, but even then the sculpt and paintwork is subpar even compared to the TVC in 2010.

I honestly just feel like selling off all my 3.75" figures and starting over with Black Series 6" but those fucking prices, I can't even afford that.

I just got it myself based on all the positive reviews and my enjoyment of the previously released Mafex Vader.

The details on the figure are great and the sculpt and colors are good, but there's almost TOO much going on with the figure. As soon as I was moving his right arm to get the rifle on, the arm popped off, and immediately was a bitch to get into the socket again securely, partly because the Wookie scalps keep sliding down into the socket area.

Also the arm mobility isn't quite as articulated as I'd like, I was hoping I could swivel the arms at the elbow so I could get Fett in his classic rifle holding pose, but the arms don't seem to swivel in.

Also the plastic covering his helmet out of the packaging is fucking irritating. I have to use a knife to get it off and risk scraping the paint or plastic to do it.

So a great looking figure in every way, but not as pleasing as the Mafex Vader. Articulation should be way better than it actually is.

Sigh. We'll never have this again...

What's everyone bought recently?

ps thank you to the kind anon a few threads back for selling me the loose Battle Droids
>>
>>6119538
Has black series done a battle droid? I can never justify figuarts price for non humans or army builders. For human characters, I pretty much only do figuarts though
>>
>>6119663
Honestly, I don't know if they could pull something like that off. The design is all small, detailed moving parts, and that's not hasbro's thing. Even the figuarts feels fragile as hell, no things broken so far, but it's probably the sketchiest toy I own.
>>
>>6119679
A super battle Droid could be cool. Hopefully they never do hips like they did for IG again. A transforming droideka would be cool too.

Given how they treated IG-88, I don't have high hopes for a battle droid.

I still need the Speeder Bike. I have the Target Black one, but I missed the boat on the regular as I came into collecting the series very late. I steadily pick up older releases as I find them

I'd be down for it even if they wanted more than usual like they were suggesting with that survey. I'd pay 25-30 easily if it transformed and had the proper size/build quality.

>>6119735
The speeder bike is super nice. It's fairly simple and you can tell where they cut costs on it, but I love the size of it. There's just something about it that feels fun.

>>6119161

Why would they vary in size at all

Black series vehicles continue to be pretty solid for four bucks. They all have more moving parts than I expect, even when it's just barely there. I can see myself going overboard once they get to the tie interceptor though.

>>6119814
Standard Clone Army are all given the same path to follow orders and not much else. However higher the ranking gave them a boost in intelligence, strategy, and a limited free will to make for better soldiers serving directly under a Jedi who would be a fully developed and complex person to deal with. Variance creates differences. In Rebels it's only common to find the higher ranking officers still alive after having the clone army put out to pasture.

Anyways I eventually managed to find that better Luke Skywalker figure and bought him loose on ebay, without the battlepack, still pissed that I spent money on the inferior battlepack version, a repack from 2004 ffs.

Desu I really regret not buying more loose figures on ebay, even with shipping costs it would probably be less than I spent at TRU for figs thats even when I would find the figure I was looking for and not just the shelfwarmers, since I dont care for packaging, cards or mint condition shit and just care about the figure and accessories/weapons

>>6119296
Yep, USA, and yeah articulation was always the holy grail for me, the more articulation the better the figure because the more you could do with it.

I remember when I first discovered 1/6th scale figures and was blown away by the level and range of articulation, and the prices.

>>6118928
I don't know maybe $150-200 or so it seems.

Pic related is my full SW 3.75" collection from like 2006-2015 not counting those few lost and otherwise gone throughout the years like Commander Bly, rip

Easily the worst of these are the 3 OT characters on the far right, the worst sculpt, paint and articulation, even worse than the 2 from the Battlepack I mentioned is that Han Solo figure, with a grand total of 4 POA and a terrible paintjob, and forced to stand in a ridiculous pose.

Captain Antilles also has low POA but makes up for it kinda with a great sculpt and paintwork, the swivel arms really suck though.

This low level of articulation should be a thing of the past, instead Hasbro made it front and center of their new 3.75" lines, and the fanboys ate it up, I fucking give up. Hasbro has taken 5 steps backwards.
>>
>>6120057
Darth Maul and R2 shelfwarmed for the longest time. Slave Leia as well. Palpatine and IG-88 were shorted lived in the cases.

Closer look at the 3 shittiest ones.

So nice of Hasbro to conceal that Obi Wan's total lack of leg articulation with only a piece of his robe which they removed the actual robe part from the original 2004 VOTC figure they repacked this one from.

I've never felt so cheated before.

Is anyone else annoyed they didn't release a rebel trooper 6" inch bs figure in the rogue one wave? I mean even the resistance trooper got a figure for VII despite being it for all of 10 seconds.
>>
>>6120421
I know the feeling. I went back for all the R2s I remembered when someone told me they were going for a fortune. I was going to keep one and hook up a few who had done the same for me in the past. All of them gone. Now I have a C-3PO and the TRU droid 3-pack, but no R2 to throw down with. Why put out Ep4 3PO without re-issuing R2?

Darth Maul was just me being a dumbass not to grab him back then.
>>
>>6120461
More annoyed they didn't use Rogue One as an opportunity to either rerelease or redo the OT Trooper, but yeah I would have probably bought a few Rebel Troopers.

iPad invented white.

Before that, white was invented by the iPod.

Before the iPod, white was invented by the Dreamcast.

Before the Dreamcast was invented, white didn't exist because everything was either hussy white or light technically grey. Somehow white truly didn't exist until the Dreamcast invented it and was stolen by Apple.

Before that, everything was wooden panels.

Before wooden panels, long ago in a galaxy far far away... Star Wars invented white with their Stormtroopers.
>>
>>6120765
No I think he means how JJ Abrams designed them- by thinking about what Apple would make.
That was literally their Mission objective.
>>
>>6121249

JJ Abrams fucked Star Wars up so bad. I'm glad Rogue One is making people realize we got a pile of shit served to us with TFA when we could've had something better.
