I'm probably the only one, but this is still my favorite Optimus Primal. I love the almost-Transmetals look to it and the poseable ape mode.

Plus it of course matches up great with the 10th Anniversary Megatron that I also love.

My CW Dead End's legs won't peg together for arm mode. What can I do to fix this?

The problem is that the locking tabs are either too small or too big. If they're too small, try adding dabs of superglue to the tabs to thicken them. If they're too big, try gently sanding the tabs.

It's weird because beast wars was hands down my favorite show as a kid, but I have no desire whatsoever to pick up mp primal. The original was one of the first transformers I got, but he still holds up very well; the MP just doesn't seem like enough of an upgrade for the price

As much as I love MP Shockwave I hate how his legs are done, they could have been much more simple and not have thighs covered in seams or have hollow shins as a result.

He is more complex than his original toy, at any rate. Besides, the MP line is inherently based on simple designs, and while neat tricks to increase complexity can be fun, they sometimes feel redundant and compromise the figure. MP Lambor/Sideswipe for instance; the whole trick where the hind section of the car unfolds and rehold into his legs is interesting, but a telescoping joint would've worked just as well, and would've left no gaps in his inner legs.

I kinda disagree. MP Primal's transformation ended up being a bit more complex than I expected.

It's definitely not complicated, but it's not simple either. A good balance, imo.

I expect accuracy to the idealized form of a character. Whether that means complexity or not depends on what sort of engineering miracles need to be performed to pull off good looking finished product. But in areas where complexity isn't needed (see: Shockwave, Soundwave) where they just turn into really simple shit, it's best to keep the transformation simple too.

I think it's really better to expect complexity in areas outside of the transformation, such as articulation, detail and accessories.

That's not to say a complex transformation can't be fun or satisfying but I don't think a figure should be made complex for the sake of that. The engineering should only be as complex as necessary to result in an accurate and proper looking robot, otherwise you'll wind up with issues like excessive transformation greebles or less solid toys.

An example would be that the white paint on white plastic on MP Ratchet can chip horribly if it starts because the paint just doesn't bond well.

Size is probably the biggest factor fanboyss look at when evaluating a purchase, hence the whole "$50 scout" meme for Bumblebee even though he's way more complex than a scout with more paint apps. Primal has a ton of paint apps, which are pricy, and an electronic gimmick, so while the increases to the price are reasonable, its also not something a lot of fans are bound to really notice or care much about.

How does industrial toy painting work anyway? Usually with traditional model painting, you always lay down a coat of primer to make paint adhere better. I'm assuming toy painting skips giving things a nice thin coat of primer?

I don't know how typical TFs go but I know the MPs that get painted all get the full primer/paint/sealer deal.

It's just that in mass production, cheaper paints are typically used and it can happen that it just isn't paint that bonds well to the plastic.

The only LG reissue they have done in the past few years was just Arcee. I doubt they would do that for a combiner especially they are making serious bank on the new Headmasters so we might actually see a reissue of some of that when the dust settles but not for Computron.

Depends on any bias, the takara versions of both are beautiful, but the mold is clearly made for blaster, and a great g1 TOY homage at that, so I would highly recommend the TR version provided you can withstand the glitterly grey plastic he has.

If you get soundwave, its only because you really lack the funds for the hasbro reissue of the mp, or you want a chug soundwave you can fuck around with and not worry about hurting

Well for one the cheapest of the last kup I can find right now is double that of what a tr deluxe is.
