I badly need to reform this deck, but what direction should I take it in for maximum shenanigans? Maybeboard is stuff I've been perusing in my free time (though there are a couple shitty cards in there I haven't gotten around to removing); I'm already planning to cut the taxes, GA/Pili-Pala meme combo, and replace Magus with Memnarch.

>>
Are there any obnoxious staple cards taht should be banned, like Sol Ring or Cyclonic Rift?
>>

The problem with dinosaur tribal is that support for it will be very far in between, since dinosaurs doesn't fit in 99% of the sets.

What do you guys think about proxy alter commander cards? I mean someone who takes a commander, goes to a proxy maker, maybe puts it in a extended art frame and puts a completely different are for the card? Would you let him play with it or just request to have the original card?

Eye

On a more serious note, imps are an extremely fringe type that has enough creatures to build a deck out of, but they're mostly bad creatures. http://www.smileylich.com/mtg/magocracy/visual/Imp_[Tribal]_visual.html

Slivers and maybe now vampires are more aggressive tribal decks that pose an actual threat without totally relying on Coat of Arms effects to win.

By that logic the dual lands would be banned.

This is a casual format so you should play whatever you're comfortable with and come to agreements with the people you play with.
>>

>>

It just seems to be right at the edge. I don't personally care, but there's more of an argument against that than there is regular old alters

Is there any reason to avoid lowering the average CMC of the spells in my deck? I undestand edh is supposed to be slower but I really don't like just loading my deck down with multiple spells that are 6 CMC or greater. I don't use any mana rocks that cost more than 2.
>>
>>55112080

well recently it's felt like there are a lot more people trying to "invest" in magic. Think what happened was that last years commander decks jumped up value super hard due to lack of product, so a lot more people are trying to get in on this year's commander decks in hope's of getting some easy cash.

Teferi's Protection is kind of interesting due to Phasing. It probably won't see any sort of reprint for a while, but could easily find itself in another supplementary product. The card can't be worth $30 though, the entire deck itself is like $35-40 MSRP, and a single card can't carry that much value by itself.
>>
>>55112206

>a single card can't carry that much value by itself

at least not while the product is still widely available*

There is no obvious Flusterstorm/True Name Nemesis in this commander set so I think people are just assuming that this must be the constructed playable card.

It's not actually going to be a significant Legacy/Vintage card like those were though so the 30$ price is a meme (unless the print run is tiny).

Aside from Doubling Season memes, does he have a spot in any deck you can think of? 3 mana for continuous looting might be good in certain strategies.

I love his new design. The outfit looked so weird with the cloak contrasting it, but the shorter hair and asymmetry really help it come together.
>>
>>55112352
You can just admit you're gay. As for the card, it seems pretty weak unless you're doing some sort of ophidian/looting theme. Honestly, kind of weak even then given that you can just run Coastal Piracy.

There have always been silly reactions to new printings or rule changes. When Laboratory Maniac was first spoiled I went online and ordered a playset of Levelers for $1 or less and the next day he spiked to 5$ or something stupid. There is a combination of more literally autistic people playing magic and trying to profit from it and a more concrete change in that the game keeps getting older.

Speculators and normal demand are more and more impactful as the game gets older and the number of players keeps increasing. Sisay and Empress Galina are 17 years old and Galina has never been reprinted. There are tons of non-investors today that just want to buy one copy of her so that they can steal a planeswalker from their friend who plays superfriends.

Drop of Honey is a more radical example. It's a rare from Arabian Nights and this year it started seeing a very small amount of play in Legacy sideboards so the price went from around 200$ to around 450$ extremely quickly. Speculators are part of the problem but get so mad at them that it is easy to ignore the tiny supply.
>>
>>55112352
Jace the body sculptor
>>
>>55112348

I disagree, the price on this card is for its being a new edh staple, on the level of Cyclonic Rift, because it's the Cyclonic Rift answer
>>
>>55112206
>and a single card can't carry that much value by itself.
That is exactly what Flusterstorm and TNN did though. Even while those decks were on shelves those cards cost 30$.
>>
Why is there still no "destroy all creatures and all artifacts" wipe?
>>
>>55112453

I don't think TTN and Flutterstorm where super high cost when the sets were only a week old. Once they found a home in older formats, then yeah their prices spiked. The decks themselves were a lot harder to come by too due to a short print run, and increased a ton in value from MSRP. The current product is still going to be wildly available and easy to find so there's no reason for Tefferi's Protection to hold a $30 value.
>>
>>55111991
>tfw bought one for 3 euro
That's for reprinting Zedruu in front of my nose you kikes
>>
>>55112506
I was there and they were 20$+ from release. People knew how good they were from when the were spoiled. TNN didn't have any kind of Tarmogoyf effect where it was underrated for a while. Flusterstorm is only played in Vintage but it was identified as a top tier counter spell immediately. I'm still shocked that Vintage +cEDH is enough demand to keep Flusterstorm at $80.
>>
>>55112492
Austere Command is almost that

>>
>>55112905
>Neither my local Target nor Walmart have stocked the pre-cons
That's better than being sold out. I would ask them for info on when they come in and try to get them for MSRP. The decks are only a week old so I think there are more coming.

4 is more than enough, 3 seems better but do as you will

The uppercase "L" in Legend means the creature type "Legend". Compare it to the text for Captain Sisay and it'll make sense. There are some cards like Willow Satyr that are completely ambiguous but wotc errated them to include creatures exclusively. Willow Satyr would be spiking hard if it could steal a planeswalker. It'd be at least $100.

So I finally received my Wizards and Vampires precon from the mail, and I just opened the Wizards first and I immediately noticed this on the Inalla card, after taking out the shrink wrap.

It's hard to capture it on my phone camera at night, but the circled top right corner is bent on where the light is. The Kess and Mairsil while not bent, has their top right corners still has slight perforations on it.

I'm afraid of opening my Vampires deck and see how fucked up it is. Does Wizards even do anything if you complain about these defects?

You don't understand. The current, unsustainable price spike isn't the real goal. If anyone does actually buy copies of Untaidake for $15 from them, it's a massive profit, but the market will eventually drive it back down. The thing is, it's not going to drive it back down to $0.50, and they're going to be selling them the entire way down. People buy some at $12? Still a huge profit. People buy some at $8? Still a fairly large profit. It eventually settles down at maybe $3? Still a noticeable profit.

It's going to take a while, but this is still raking in money hand over fist. That's why it's going to keep happening. None of the "investors" that actually matter are the ones paying the upjumped prices, so it's not actually going to end up hurting them in the long run.

And Commander players will still refuse to pay that $8 pricetag. I understand that these threads don't see it a lot due to the nature of this website drawing more hardcore enthusiasts, but there is a massive portion of EDH that plays on a budget, and nobody, NOBODY on a budget is going to touch this shit with a ten foot pole. If they think that they can eventually make a small sum moving down the slide as people calm down, they are sorely mistaken, especially with this blatant financial manipulation pissing people off and convincing many to turn away from them out of spite. Their actual buyer range is almost nonexistent thanks to their own fuckups, leaving them to sit on hundreds of dollars of dead product.

>And Commander players will still refuse to pay that $8 pricetag.

That's not important either. A few people probably will and hey, that'll be "nice", but even when the dust settles, if it stops at say $3, then someone who "invested" $100 into copies of Untaidake stands to make $500 if they sell through them.

Like I said, it'll take a while to make the money, but it will still ultimately get made. The big stores that are capable of staging large scale buy outs are the ones that have the time to wait for the return on it, so they're going to keep doing it.

We'd all be much better off if it were a financial blunder that will ultimately ruin the people that made it, because that would put an end to it, but that's practically a revenge fantasy at this point. The sorry truth is that this is still a viable profit scheme, and that means it's not going to stop so easily.

Not really. What they realized is that a lot of Planeswalkers are distinct enough cards that the uniqueness rule wasn't serving any sort of larger mechanical purpose. Outside of EDH, most decks aren't running different flavors of the same Planeswalker anyway. The only exception is seeing LotV and Last Hope together rarely.

You can spend planeswalker points down to 0 as long as it has enough to pay for it. For example to use Sorin, grim nemesis last ability you would need 9 or more points. If a planeswalker ever has 0 points it does die.

neither. even if you played this in a deck that cares about destroying creatures a lot, like a token sacrifice deck or one full of boardwipes, a huge vanilla creature is still underwhelming in edh. in edh you want to play creatures that generate value.
>>
>>55116942
>in edh you want to play creatures that generate value.

Well, there's a tiny bit of leeway here. Normally, this is not a value creature in any regard. In Edgar, he's able to generate value because he's a Vampire, and he's the only Vampire with flash. He's significantly more playable in Edgar than anywhere else. Admittedly, I wouldn't consider him a staple, since there are only certain builds of Edgar that I think would profit from him, but there certainly are builds that would.

almost never used the activated abilities but when I did it was pretty funny
5 mana 5/4 flying vig is the reason I played her
>>
>Been building Empress Galina copy/steal deck for a while
>Just taking it slow, getting a few cards at a time
>Never got around to getting Galina herself
>This price spike happens

Wizards, pls.

Exactly, which is probably why I'll go Memnarch instead while waiting for prices to drop. I have to rebuild a bit though.

This is getting completely out of hand recently. I hope the bubble will finally burst.

I'd take Temple of the False God over it, and that land isn't good.

>>55119738
I've been saying that for 5 years and have come around to feeling like it will never burst (until an actual market crash when collectors/players/investors alike have to consider selling cards to pay their bills)

I doubt this will happen. A lot of these guys have a ton of disposable income

Of course I'm not saying everyone will sell their collection but SOME will have to and the prices probably drop at that point.

New Dragonskull Summit is the shittiest of the bunch.
>>
>>55120285

Over time, yes.
There's no guarantee that the every so slight increase in supply will outpace the purchasing of the investing majority that will buy that shit up instantly.

This wouldn't be a problem if Wizards would just fucking reprint shit in a timely fashion.

That's the catch, no one is buying for those inflated prices. Soon the price will go down to a couple dollars and will stabilize at that because investors aren't going to sell them for a loss, so all they do is go around increasing the price of cards that were cheap.

If they manage to sell a couple of Untaidake for $3, they already made a profit even if they bought a dozen of them.
>>
Guys, ever played ''How many Reserved list cards do I own?''.

I'll take a quick guess and say I'm on the low side with 3.

I know nobody's buying for those prices, but I straight up don't see any changes anywhere for selling prices. I don't see the 15$ price jump.

>>
>>55120640
Woah, 3 is really low. I've never counted or organized my collection but would guess I have at least 100. There are tons of cards on the reserved list that aren't good, expensive, or played.
>>
>>55120656
You need to look on those sites that anyone can sell, not store sites or sites that look on store sites only, also, they are only spikes, some of them go from minutes to hours, they rarely maintain any ridiculous price for more than a day.
>>
>>55118469
Untaidake has always been among the shittiest cards in the game, though. Nobody is seriously going to buy these out as a response to PWs... right? I mean, I suppose Atraxa Superfriends could take advantage of it, but it still seems very jank to me.

>>55121116
what a terrible card
>>
>>55121116
that was in reply to an aurelia deck actually. They were advised to remove Basandra due to her lack of synergy and Grand Abolisher being overall better

Add:
>Skullclamp
You’re in Boros, you need the most broken equipment in the game to patch your draws.
>Mindstone
Early ramp and late draw
>Legion’s Initiave
Your creatures are your win-con. This provides protection from enemy (and your own) boardwipes/removal while giving a baby anthem and can even be used to enable haste & reset Iona’s Color, Twilights -1/-1s, Flip Red Akroma, or perma-exile with Angel of Serenity
>Cloudshift
Another flavorful card that functions similarly to Legion’s Initiative EXCEPT with the addition of milking out an extra (third) combat step with your commander. (Cast it before Aurelia Attacks in the Second Combat step, she becomes a new object, and attacks for the ‘first’ time again [Eldrazi Displacer works similarly but must be done in response to her untap trigger, also requires anus mana])
>Wear//Tear
A must. It is arguably the most efficient instant in Boros
>Hanwier Battlements/Hanwier Garrison
The land offers an extra outlet for haste (including opponents’ creatures which may offer political power) and the soldier provides little dudes you can Clamp late game.
>Scroll Rack
Together with land tax, you will be able to sculpt hands better than Bluefags
>Godo, Bandit Warlord
Extra combat step, is a human (Herald of War), and can give you useful tools (sunforger/skullclamp)
>Sun Titan
Not angelic, but can reccur lost lands and utility permanents (sphere, clustone, mindstone, MOM)
>Reya Dawnbringer
You’re doing Angel tribal senpai, wtf where is she?
>Emeria Shepherd/ Emeria Sky Ruin
That many Plains demands these two cards
>Kjeldoran Outpost
Allows you to generate value even when hellbent, amazing synergy with skullclamp
>>
>tfw Jace, Vryn's Prodigy didn't spike yet

Thankfully you are playing Naya anyway, so you can always insert shit like Fires of Yavimaya, Ogre Battledriver or even Lightning Greaves. That dino can become a Craterhoof Behemoth if you can give it haste.

>Unironically want to use all the weak-ass photoshop skills I learned in high school to make a Vaporwave-ass playmat

>Unironically love meme playmats

I'm the kind of person who would totally make a playmat for each of the decks I'm unlikely to ever take apart, and then a handful more for brews and the like. Decks I'd actually shell out a playmat and maybe even sleeves for:

- Rashmi Artifacts brew (currently online only, slowly building irl)
- Sydri Artifacts brew (combos out with the water tower, as expected)
- Grenzo, Dungeon Warden brew (has a couple combos but few are realistically infinite)
- Queen Marchesa brew (mardu are my spirit colors and I love me some politics, token subtheme)
- Dwynen "Welcome to the Jungle" double-tribal brew (beasts and elves)

Might post inspirations on what each one might look like, at some point.
