Thread Question:
What's your favorite piece of colorless tech?
>>
>>54722335
Either Mirage Mirror or Moonring Mirror. Mirage is great for shenanigans while Moonring is great for decks that are lacking in draw power. That and it fucks with people.

Yes.

Amulet of vigor, lots of tapdown cards in the meta and modt land tutors make them come in tapped. I would say sofaf but the tricks I do with it are basically all white.
>>
>>54722335
Ornate Kanzashi. I love that card so much, especially when someone drops a "top-of-library" tutor
>>
Sundial of the Infinite is my favorite colorless tech card bar none.
>>
>>54722498
What he said. I've barreled into a turn 2 Angry Omnath with that fucker, and it makes every risky tapland like the fastlands so much safer.

Asking again due to lack of response last thread
What removal should I have in Locust God? I'm new to building Izzet, so its not all that familiar to me.
I know that Vandalblast and Cyclonic Rift are auto-includes, but I don't know what else.
>>
>>54722794
Blasphemous Act for damage, I like running Wash Out, and Curse of the Swine gets you exile in colors that don't usually get it
>>
>>54722780
T1 Land, Amulet of Vigor
T2 Float 1, Gruul Turf, Float 2, Summer Bloom, 3x Gruul Turf, Angry Omnath.
>>
>>54722794
Chaos Warp, Reality Shift, Pongify, and Rapid Hybridization are all solid.
>>

>>
>>54722550

>>
>>54722838
So not in EDH, got it.
>>
>>54722886
You play Gruul Turf, stack the triggers so it untaps, you tap it to float GR, then it bounces itself and you play it again. Please try to think.
>>
>>54722886
that is an EDH legal play, the fuck you talking about
>>
>>54722758
I run it along with Uba Mask (and sometimes other cast-from-library nonsense) in CA-starved brews, typically monored or boros. It's really funny to watch players flail under that kind of CA oppression.
>>
>>54722838
Beautiful, im going to steal this one. I have one too many tutors but i needed something with lands.
>>
>>54722907
Ah, sorry, its late I somehow took "You are using a full playset of turf" from that and didn't remember you could self-bounce karoos.
>>
>>54722970
Grab it before Modern gets something that breaks it. It's one of the best 1-mana artifacts in EDH and makes your manabase rock solid when you draw it.
>>
>>54722989
Ive already got my amulet, I just fucking forgot summer bloom was a thing once amulet bloom got fucked in modern.
>>
>>54722970
And of course all of those cards are at least good in Omnath. Vigor lets you get slower lands fast, Turf means you'll get consistent Landfall triggers, and Summer Bloom can get out of control fast if you recur it.
>>54722989
Summer Bloom and Cloudpost in Amulet Bloom and 12 Post are both banned, making amulet unlikely to spike.

How the hell is Ghost Council of Orzhova tied for best Orchov commander?
Is it really an equal to Teysa? Or superior to Karlov and Ayli?
Is there some reliable infinite-bounce combo in Orchov that I don't know about?

I know that this list isn't official or anything, but what was their logic here?

The list is overwhelmingly biased towards commanders that are combo pieces. Most of the lists consist of trying to get a single combo out as fast as possible and building the deck around it.

Speaking of EP, I almost lived the dream tonight, boys.

>Had, among other things on the board, Fires of Yavimaya, Zendikar Resurgent and Collective Blessing
>Play AEther Charge, then True Conviction
>no one really bats an eye
>EZURI'S PREDATION
>About to shit 15 7/7 lifelinkers onto the board, gaining 11 life per between fighting and Charging, before swinging in with the team

>Here comes my older bro, being Captain Funkiller
>Activate Mageta the Lion, force me to Boros Charm and keep my dudes around
>Only end up getting 4 7/7s, and his Avacyn, Angel of Hope keeps me from really doing anything to clear the board

feels bad, man.
>>
>>54723827
Looking form your deck, I assume you're going for a tribal goblin aggro strategy, which I think you might be going for that instead of spellslinging with conspire.

You also need more card draw enablers instead of that many tutors.

Staff of Domination doesn't feel right with a Wort Conspire deck either. Many of those non-thornbite staff untap cards seems unnecessary as well.

Did you expect him to just sit back and let you gain all that life?
Politics are fun and all, but letting you get ahead when they're in a position to stop you is not something most players would do except maybe when there's another, even bigger threat at the table and they're hoping you two would duke it out before finishing them off.
>>
>>54723919
Not at all, theres 27 sorceries and 9 instants in the deck. Tutors are for the combos pieces, I can't fetch artifacts so I need a few untap equipments to keep using krenko, its entirely about generating creatures to conspire with then wiping everyone out with and X spell. Warchief and Cheiftan are there for haste so we can tap tokens immediately

>>
>>54723672
I don't think you know how this game works
>comspierd it 2 times
you can only copy a spell once with conspire unless the spell has multiple instances of conspire it gives you a single trigger of "you may tap 2 creatures that share a colour to copy it" the function is similar to the trigger on Rith the Awakener or Crosis the Purger in that you are only given the opportunity to perform the action once
even if you casted Ezuri's Predation multiple time the fight part is resolved along with the spell so you would only get another token if the creature was still alive after the first fight, the third Ezuri's Predation would only create a token if there was a creature with effectively 9 toughness or more

this all hinges on the fact that you don't have a Mirror Gallery and two Wort the Raidmother but even though EDH is a mostly casual format you still should play by the actual rules of the game
>>
>>54724014
Every spell has conspire including the conspired spell copy, so you can conspire as many times as you like

If I'm right, I think it has something to do with your custom sorting of the decklist.
>>
>>54724049
some cards are in 2 categories, you counted Planes Walker and Mana Echoes twice
>>
>>54724023
>Each red or green instant or sorcery spell you CAST has Conspire.
>As you CAST the spell, you may tap two untapped creatures you control that share a color with it. When you do, COPY it and you may choose new targets for the COPY.
/tg/ can't play Magic. The copies are not cast and thus do not have Conspire.
>>
>>54724023
>>54724077
>>54724014

sadly yes. Conspire only happens one time unless the spell has a conspire effect by itself.
>>
>>54724023
>(As you cast the spell, you may tap two untapped creatures you control that share a color with it. When you do, copy it and you may choose new targets for the copy.)
>As you cast the spell . . . copy
>cast . . .copy

wrong, the copy made from conspiring the originally cast spell is never cast but placed onto the stack. Since the copy was never cast, it will not trigger an additional conspire option.

I have a very odd request:

How do I goodstuff.dec with pic related? As in, how many cards do I need to devote to ramp/card draw/threats? Decks I build are usually around the Commander and I want something that's more about a good 99 and just utility in the Command Zone.

I plan on running Infinites that revolve around Mazirek and/or Mikeaus if that helps.

Also, I'm not interested in running any Constellation effects.

Are you complaining that copying a general is in the same level as a obliterate effect?
And that the player in question is moronic for complaining about the obliterate effect even though he just resolved an effect that you deem to be as much of a 'dick move'?
Because if thats the case then oh shit nigga you wrong
>>
>>54727203
Take them to a edh night at your lgs.
If they have pride in their decks they'd want to show them off even if they have to follow the updated rules right.
Although when my group did that a lot of the decks we're all playing have stated to be a little more combo'y then whats ok
>>
>>54727203
explain that in EDH they can have a foil legendary they can identify with and build all the deck around that persona, taking them deeper into magical unicornland
>>
>>54727203
shoot them
>>
>>54727203
What you need to understand is that EDH is really demanding and complicated for people that just play casually every other week. 60 cards decks are straight foward, consistent and only contain a handful of different cards. When you lend your friends one of your EDH decks they see a complicated monstrosity, where they have to read every single card and actually have to learn how to play it. So the new format you are showing them isn't fun, just tedious and complicated.

>Some guy MLDs
>The boardstate is barren wasteland of either to many high value creatures not wanting to sent into combat to die
>Or the one player who now has no lands, and is pillowforted to shit is the biggest problem because they can't die.

So fun.
>>
>>54727432
Unless the Pillowfort guy is Daxos or has a Darksteel Forge, Obliterate's going to deal with most of the issues you've outlined.
>>
>>54727462
You see that's the problem. You're solving a problem that doesn't need to be solved.

Going "lol, reset." on the "problem" of people playing the game is anti-fun.
>>
>>54727432
not really any different that playing against mono counterspell deck or waiting 20 minutes for durdlemaster and eggs or storm player wiffs. pillowforts are shit too.
surely in a world of shit people symmetric destruction is not the worst thing one can do.

I prefer to play cool games too but irl EDH players are shit.
>>
>>54727514
What kind of logic is this? Because there are other people doing worse, it's okay? This is like a child molester defending himself in court with "Other guys kill their victims, what I did wasn't the worst thing one can do, so it's alright and you should let me go".

Really the only reason to play Obliterate is if you're playing a bunch of enchantments or Planeswalkers yourself.

say we both build decks and your deck wants to build up momentum playing a series of value spells gathering a huge board presence with stuff that benefits you and hurts your opponent and winning by attrition or finding your combo.

my deck focuses in combat and getting in the beats with cheap creatures and good synergy and wins by getting all opponents to 0 life

then you have the guy whose only goal in building his deck is to take the longest turn as he cracks his eggs and builds the machine to win the game
and this guy thinks he's got something no one else has. the perfect combination of cards that can't be beat and he thinks (in his heart) that everyone can enjoy seeing him build this machine and maybe win.

then that dude over there whose goal is to cast chaos warp 167000 times.

then the guy that needs to control the board with timely counterspell to win the game.

unless all of us have built our decks with blatant disregard for the possibilities of the format. any of these decks can run away with the game and make it unfun. if you don't want to play a game with possibilities and a social aspect play something else or play solitaire mtg or mind mtg. hell make a league with rules and house bans.
but please Don't come to the casual rando table expecting for people to acomodate your brand of tism. MLD is as valid as any strategy.
you should be ready to deal with anything or make good decisions and good plays. don't just plop every land on the table, don't just walk in to every counter. and for the love of god, if you get outplayed, take it like a man. don't "but mhu skillz" if you built a flawed deck you failed, if you didn't notice someone holding back lands you failed, if you didn't want to try, just play tic tac toe, if you didn't have answers, either understand it was luck of the draw or modify your deck. if you chose to build aurochs tribal, then ask people to play their shit decks as well.

>>
>>54727836

I'm curious. You mentioned a lot of deck-types. How do you feel about the Chaos Warp guy? Do you think he should keep making decks the way he does? What about a guy whose goal is to cast and re-cast Warp World and Scrambleverse? Are you defending those decks and players? Are those decks good decks to have? Would you want to play at a table with them?

I don't have a "correct" answer in mind here by the way, I'm genuinely curious.
>>
land destruction is fine if you use it to protect your board position or combo and win.
jokulhaups and obliterate do not do that because they destroy your board.
>>
>>54727935
All mass land destruction does it make the game grind to a halt when games of four to five people already last over an hour.

>don't just plop every land on the table
>don't just play the game

that's what that sperg is suggesting
>>
>>54727954
i see where you're coming from, but i'm saying there are ways to play it that are not that, and it's a legitimate strategy. it's one of the reasons why i play crucible in every deck, mld is really common in my meta lol
>>
MLD is fine
>>
>>54727922
I'm saying that I've played in several states of the US and Mexico in a lot of card shops and I've played the game for over 20 years, and in just about every one you find these decks. I've honestly only ever run in to original decks once or twice every year, by original I mean great combos for not optimised but still cool decks.
those decks and kinds of players are the community of casual players that exists.
these and the oddball salty bastards that post on /tg/
all these decks are good to go in my opinion.
from experience I will tell you that players evolve in their play style.
when I started I was all about flavor, then consistency, then winning, then control, then aggro then obscure cards, right now I'm into glass canon decks and all in decks. some players just stagnate into a play style and that's ok too, even if I believe they are not getting the most enjoyment out of the game.

I threw together a Selvala, Explorer Returned Stax/Tax deck and got a Paradox engine out with 3 mana dorks and Selvala in pay.

I figured, "oh now I get to float a bunch of mana and cast a lot of spells before I drop this winter orb and start getting incremental value over the next few turns."

Instead I sat there playing solitaire until I drew into a Wild Pair and played a Crater Hoof Behemoth after resolving something like 16 other creature spells.

1x Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge

Jeleva isn't used for anything more than her colors. She's at the helm of Grixis Storm as a sort-of backup plan.

Teferi plays hard stax and his Planeswalker card allows you to play around them a little because he needs no mana to work once he's out.

Tazri is a Food Chain deck.

Thrasios is a win con in the command zone to use once you've got infinite mana.

Yidris I'm not sure about, but I think people build him storm.

>>54729559
It's explained on the page.
Tazri goes infinite with Food Chain+Misthollow Griffin/Eternal Scourge and has all the cards available to find and protect all of those pieces.
Jeleva is Grixis Storm, rituals, wheels, fast mana, cantrips, Mind's Desire, Aetherflux, Tendrils.
Teferi is a Stax deck that combos out with Chain Veil to produce infinite mana and draw your own deck out.
Thrasios partners with Bruse, Vial Smasher, or Tana for a 4 color infinite mana deck that can proceed to empty their whole library and play Lab Maniac.
Yidris is Grixis Storm+, it's debatable whether adding green to your manabase detracts from your consistency enough to justify running Carpet of Flowers and the best artifact/enchantment removal.

Insurrection is always valid as a wincon in red, but it requires a slightly more developed board than wraths.dec. Darksteel Forge + Mycosynth Lattice isn't a wincon on its own, but it enables even the lamest threats to be wincons (especially when equipped with Worldslayer).

I went a different way with Marduchesa: Politics, pillow fort, and player control, typically turtling away while the board spirals out of control and then dropping Insurrection or Worst Fears to watch the rest of the table eat each other whole. Typically I'd hold back rout in hand or disk on the field in case someone managed to bust through my defensive enchantments

Never said MLD and spikes were related. I was instead pointing out the irony that you're calling someone casual who plays MTG's premiere casual format. Was also pointing out the irony that people need to consistently power up their decks but asking someone to power down their deck is demonstrative of bad deckbuilding. Lastly, the comic isn't making fun of spikes, it's making fun of tryhards.

removal for what?
Into the Core exiles two artifacts at instant speed for 4CMC, Sulfurous Blast can do 2/3 to each creature on the board at the same cost
Vandalblast is probably in the top 10 for artifact removal.
Spitebellows is hilariously effective at picking off a single creature with toughness <7
Descent of the Dragons can be removal or a win con if you have enough little dudes on the field
Firery conclusion, Brimstone Volley, Fated Conflagration all can deal 5 to a creature
Shrapnel Blast, Lightning Axe, and Artillerize are other options

Oh my god.
>>
>>54732486
Everything you've said there is wrong.
The player dealing the damage to an opponent gets to choose if the damage will go to the planeswalker, the opponent does not. You don't ever target the planeswalker, you redirect the damage when it would be dealt to the opponent. The choice is made during resolution, so you don't even have to tell them you're planning on killing their walker until they've let it resolve.
>>
>>54732537
It really hoses mono coloured decks and people don't really want to have a single autoinclude in case of one extremely powerful creature because literally all of their other spells go to shit. It's a complaint mainly from the really new/casual players and that's usually where she sees play

I struggled for the longest time with that question. I find that to reach UG levels of value, you need 3 color combos - Abzan, Grixis or Esper (haven't tried Mardu, but don't expect much). I tried half the best monocolor options, but they have holes in their coverage so large, my opponents could drive a trailer through them and park it in my butthole. Then I tried UG, BUG and RUG, which allowed me to finally do shit about every turn and not just wait for the good circumstances. The most frustrating shit was playing monored. Guys who did a color combination power ranking were right all along.

i'm not even building UG because it's easy and powerful, it's really just that i need the colors to play the fun cards that i want to play.

i'm still throwing an autistic fit over this because when i was starting out in EDH, i decided i didn't want to build UG because it looked like such a boring and easy way to play the game, and that line of thinking is still strong with me

Does it go to the graveyard and stay there, does it come back to the battlefield as regular Mirage Mirror?

that part was in reference to how i had seen other people build UG, which was the same 50 goodstuff UG cards over and over again. UG goodstuff is the most boring fucking archetype ever and i stand by that.

>If I use Mirage Mirror to copy Glen Elendra Archmage, and then pay U to sacrifice it to counter a noncreature spell, what happens to the Mirage Mirror?
>Does it go to the graveyard and stay there, does it come back to the battlefield as regular Mirage Mirror?

it does come back as far as i know. it gains persist when it becomes a copy of glen, so it does come back with a -1/-1 counter as the base form of Mirage Mirror. at least that's how xmage resolves it and xmage is rarely wrong about stuff
>>
>>54733280
So because it has a -1/-1 counter on it, if I were to copy Glen Elendra again and activate the ability, it wouldn't come back because it has a -1/-1 counter?

exactly what happens when a commander dies? does it go to the gy and then bounces back to the command zone if you choose, thereby activating "when this dies" stuff?
>>
>>54733883
no, its a replacement effect. If the commander is sent to the CZ instead of the graveyard, it never "dies" and abilities that trigger from creature death (skullclamp, for example) won't go off
>>
How would you guys feel about this as a commander:

Dickface the Rad
3RB
Legendary Creature Demon Avatar

Last Strike
~ gains attack equal to the damage dealt to it during combat.

When this creature is dealt combat damage, it deals that much damage to each opponent during the following endstep.

0/6
>>
>>54733949
You sure about that? Unless the cause effect specifically mentions it, if the commander dies from lethal damage, boardwipe, or a spell that destroys it, it dies and still can get sent to CZ or GY.

>If a Commander would be put into a library, hand, graveyard or exile from anywhere, its owner may choose to move it to the command zone instead. Details

The creature never goes to the original destination zone and will not trigger abilities that trigger based on going there (e.g. "dies" triggers).
>The creature never goes to the original destination zone and will not trigger abilities that trigger based on going there (e.g. "dies" triggers).

You can choose, though. So for example you can recycle your commander for graveyard-removal effects by having it go there, then putting it in the command zone instead of being exiled.
>>
>>54734197
That is, when the exile effect happens you put it in the command zone from the graveyard.

I run my Kambal deck like a BW Soul Sisters deck with some Extort/Pillowfort tossed in.

I have found that Dark Tutelage works well for card advantage and adds to your enchantment count. Kambal's lifegain helps to offset any loss that high CMC spells bring.

Creature-wise I find that Archfiend of Depravity and Vizkopa Guildmage do some heavy lifting. Archfiend keeps go wide strategies in check and Vizkopa lets you dump excess mana to further drain everyone around the table.

>>

I actually dislike it. It made certain commanders even stronger and made "Build around me" decks way more prevalent. I still follow the rules of course, but yeah. I don't know why they removed the tuck rule. It added more ways to deal with threats and having more options in a game is always better than having less.
>>
>>54734524

Why do you refuse to play normal Counterspells?
>>
>>54734392
Not spicy tech, but be sure to run Mind's Dilation. Nothing beats that value train.

If you decide to drop the shitty instant speed idea and go creature heavy, Lurking Predators. If you decide to keep the shitty instant speed idea use Isochron Scepter and combine it with untap effects like Dramatic Reversal or Paradox Engine.

Any spell with buyback may be a good value. If you are running mana producers or untap effects consider Sprout Swarm.

>>
>>54735677
While that's 100% a legal, and even smart move on the player who you swung at, it's kind of bullshit. In my group whenever someone tries to pull that shit "Oh I'm going to lose if the stack resolves/if I let that guy hit me and get his trigger, I'm just going to scoop." I just tell the player who would win continue as if it did resolve, if the player who scooped bitches I just explain he's not in the game anymore so his input isn't relevant.

I don't understand why people have to be spiteful in a casual card game. No one is going to win a prize, it's just dudes having fun and if you lose it just means you get to shuffle up and play more games.

tl;dr I would be a little salty because it's petty, but it's completely legal and in the rules
