Asher hails from a world at war, fighting over habitable planets and resource-rich asteroids. Chief among the minerals they fight for were those that allowed Asher and his colleagues to nearly ignore the laws of physics and produce large humanoid war machines. He was on the team that developed the first of these mechs, and sold them briefly to all areas of his universe before civil war split it apart. He continued his research and development under the loyalist government, creating deadlier and larger mechs until he was recruited into the Traveler's. He continued to pursue his passion under the Mechanical group, becoming famous as a leader among Mech-related construction and research. Having worked on several of the parts of the standardized mechs, he is also known to perform commissions for those with enough money, which has earned him much prestige among the higher-class. His increased access to fantastical materials has allowed him to create wondrous machines the likes of which he could only dream of before.

However, recently he has faced trouble within his own Faction as a not-insignificant group began pushing for biomechanical creations such as the 'Clone' mech, which has so far surpassed all Asher has made. He firmly believes that the future of Traveler warfare belongs in the hands of purely mechanical-types, and views those who make and support biomechanical mechs to be misguided at best. He's currently working on a new prototype that should surpass the Clone mech, and he's looking for someone to field test it. Has a custom modified Shield Mech, with several spare parts so he can change its function depending on what the situation calls for.

In his rare moments of spare time, he openly ponders why the Traveler's are so few. If the multiverse is infinite, should there be many million more. Is there another similar organization that is gathering people that the Traveler's have yet to?

Almost all of the characters have very strong and well written personalities, and the manga has a very good blend of showing how the girls act both during Races and during downtime.

Nozomi is hardworking and frugal, owing to her poor upbringing and a desire to help her family with the money that Keijo can bring in.

Miyata acts cool and collected, but is actually a deeply lonely person who is guilty over her decision to leave judo, and the rift it caused in her family.

Even minor characters get some character development. Don Kosugi is angry that her branch gets picked on by other players who are looking to take advantage of a poor area with subpar training facilities, Ujibe wants to live vicariously through Nozomi because she's so much like Ujibe was before her injury, and even poor Repeater, who never gets a name, has a one page backstory on all of the time and effort she's put into trying to overcome her lack of talent through sheer practice and memorization.


Read the manga though, the anime was okay, but it dropped a bunch of absolutely vital story and characterization to rush the storyline to the East/West climax, then fucked that up because they blew their budget on earlier episodes.

Originally just a regular mook, I was thrown into the fray against a rival organization as cannon fodder. Despite my skills though my ogranization never noticed me, but the rival scientists did after a chance encounter. My genes were particularly well suited for thier brand of biosoldiering. Ill sneak up behind the enemy using the bolt pistols to take out any groups that may see me. go up to the big bad leader guy of the party who would probably be suit up in armor and use the power sword to cut through it and make an example to the enemy by cutting up his limbs and then slicing off the head showing that they are weak and if they continue to resist the same will happen to them.
