Heyheyheyheyheyhey

Hey

I found this ninja sneaking around my place. I disarmed him and demanded he tell me why he was sneaking around my place. He said he was sneaking because he was very sad that he was naught but bare metal with no paint or base. I feel bad now and want to help him, but I can't decide on what kind of paint-job I should give him.

He told me what kind HE wants, but I didn't care.

SO, dubs (or better) will determine what color scheme I use on this sad ninja.

I will not accept suggestions involving "derogatory or controversial" schemes (like nazi swastikas or swear words, or anything I feel like is "innapropriate," really) since I intend for other people to see this model.

I may need to do some private recasting myself.

There's a bit from a discontinued model line I need a LOT of to make a build work. I have greenstuff and a wish not to spend too much money. Can it be done?
>>
>>53811533
Same anon. If you want resin, I picked up the kit I did this with from Hobby Lobby for about $45 after the coupon. Alumilite Super Casting Kit. There's a guide in the OP, or on the 1d4chan "Casting" page, that'll help you out a ton. Get the kit, and you'll have everything you need in quite good quality. And there's enough resin in there for about 250 of these bases, so there's probably enough for you to get a pile of bits.
>>
>>53810936
Emile from Halo Reach.
>>
>>53811560
Hm. This is a bit much for what I need. I'm thinking that if I'm very clever I can make a greenstuff press-mold.

make greenstuff, paint with a release agent like olive oil, and press the bit into it, matching its natural moldlines. also embed some pegs in there for alignment. then when the greenstuff hardens, repeat for the other half. Add channels as needed.

not sure what to use for the casting material yet, though.

Up to you how you want to do it. I'm just giving you an option that I know works. If you're willing to deal with Milliput as your material of choice, pick up some oyumaru sticks, less than twenty bucks and you can reuse it for years.

repostan since I didn't realise the last thread was dead.

What's the advantage of having the green baseboard, whatever it's called, that most people seem to have? I'm watching some videos to learn to paint and it seems to be very common.

One anon mentioned it was a self-healing mat and he didn't find it very useful, any other opinions?

For the record, though, I have played it. It was okay, but I ended up just playing Torbjorn toward the end because it felt like playing battle-engie in TF2 again. Really it just made me want to play TF2.

The art direction is the only thing I legitimately hate. I can't stand the way all but maybe two or three characters look and I've felt that way since day one when they had the announcement banner up on battle.net. If you dig it, good on you, but I think it looks like ass and I'm under no impression that is anything but a subjective opinion.

Looking to start painting space wolves soon, and am wondering if there are any companies that provide a paint similar to Citadel's Russ Grey. I'v looked at multiple websites and comparison charts, but no one seems to carry an alternative. Even looking atBuypainted's videos, he uses Vallejo Game color paints like Sombre Grey and Wolf Grey. Now in the thumbnail the models have a great Blue color to them, but while he's painting the models, they turn out more of a light grey with barely a lick of blue to them. Please don't tell me I have to shill out for that tiny little pot.

Begon, shills. Vallejo has better bottles which have more paint in them for cheaper than citadel pots. While GW does sell some good products, they are universally overcosted.

>>53814205
You weren't fucking kidding. I didn't even know the paint existed desu, Anyway, Sombre Grey is the same as The Fang, which if you're going by Duncan is your base paint. Wolf Grey is your highlight. Local hobby store sells Vallejo for $2.99. Local game store that carries GW products sells GW paints for full price, so $4.25 on a 12 ml pot.

I don't really have a vested interest in Russ Grey. The other guy does- for why I can't say. I'd just go with something else, mix for the result, or use wolf grey for the layer and Ghost Grey for the highlight.

It's the anon trying out Glaze Blending for the first time again. Finally got the model highlighted enough to the point that I like it so I moved onto base coating the rest of it. Also worked on the OSL effect and can't understand why I never tried it sooner.

Belt seems wonky, not sure what to do with it and I don't know if I want to make the wings on the chest black or leave it gold. Speaking of Gold, I picked up Vallejo's Liquid Gold after hearing some good things about it and want to try it out myself.

What are you thoughts /wip/?

Looks like Warstore has kneadatite for a tiny bit cheaper than Amazon, but he doesn't ship free... if you're planning on making one big sculpt out of GS, that's the wrong way to do it, though. Build your armature up out of something cheaper (like foil and milliput), then put the fine details on with GS.

>>

You could just cut the pads off under the arms, reconstruct the shoulderjoint with a ball of GS and cover that with a new pad.

I'm just eyeballing this since I've bever seen a primaris in person, but it may also be possible to kitbash them with the various marks of terminator armor.

I was talking about the chads in the starter set
>>
>>53817140

I started by painting the face Mechanicum Standard Grey followed by Celestra Grey and followed up by highlight the carapace and with these same colors.

I painted the markings Khorne red and started highlighting some edges with that color too, making sure to blend the color into the black.
I then highlighted the red areas with Wazdakka Red followed By Wild rider Red. I painted the teeth Tallarn Sand followed by Pallid Wych Flesh.

The ribbed green parts are simply Moot Green highlighted with Yriel Yellow while the tongue is Sotek Green highlighted with Baharroth Blue. I'll probably add more steps on larger models but this seems to work for Termagants and other smaller Tyranid.

Victoria miniatures, Maxmini, Pig Iron, Blight Wheel, Mad Robot and puppetswar are all good places to start.
Depends on what you are going for though.

As far as GW heads go you can use literally any head of both the fantasy or 40k range, unless it's an elf/eldar one.

The Empire and Bretonnian heads always look nice for Imperial stuff.

GW kits were usually made to be somewhat interchangable with each other.

I really like these new Sector Mechanicus bases, they really tie completely different figures together. The CSM at the top has me trying to find some sort of good-looking backpack to go with it, any recommendations? I removed the mechadendrite on the Watcher as anon suggested and it looks far better, I also changed the staff to something a bit more fitting of its stature, tying in with the Tzeentch-theme that I've got going. I love the look of the AdMech guy, it's so elaborate for a single-piece figure. The Imperial Space Marine just got a Chaos shoulderpad since it's already quite a busy figure, and the Scavvy ganger (now a Chaos cultist) got some arms from the Neophyte Hybrids kit. Reposting this. I've realised that I want a havoc launcher on him somewhere but I don't have one because I based it off a space marine predator and not a chaos one. Canvassing for ideas of what to do...

I was thinking a bunch of nurglings loading each other into the hunter killer missile that comes with the kit, but that might be too jovial for this guy. Or I need a rhino anyway so I might just go pick up a chaos one and nick the havoc launcher from that. I think the rhino will be much less mutated but will be heavy on nurgling inhabitants.

Get some putty like milliput or something, mix it and use that to add the flooring.
You can either make small balls and press them flat or lay down a smooth layer and carve it it.
Milliput dries rockhard so you can sand and cut it as well.
You could also do the stones separately and then glue them onto the base, only works if you pin your mini onto that afterward, not so great for slottas.

You could also just use cardboard or whatever else.
I have a pack of plastic mosaic tones I could use as paving stones too.

I've been looking at the Electro-Priests for Admech, and I've decided the models are decent but clash a bit with the rest of the range, plus they're £80 for the full unit of 20.

Since I'm DarkMech, I decided to use my billion spare Kataphron claws, Arc Mauls and cyber-heads, plus some greenstuff cables, to make a big squad of Samech Redemption Servitors, or something close, to be counts-as. Bearing in mind I'm removing all the Chaos bits and such, do I use Chaos Marauders or Catachans as the convertees? Marauders seem both more ripped and more intimidating, but I'd have to lop less bits off the Catachans.

Does anyone know where to get bulk chain-sword + las/auto pistol arms for cutists/acolytes?

I've checked anvil, mad robot and Victoria miniatures and while the have loads of melee weapons they don't have much in the way of arms to carry them (aside from a couple of offices sets but $3 per pair is a bit much)

There's three more chassis ready for greenstuff tentacles, but this was the practice one so it's a little scrappy. I'll do the other bunch when I have a spare half hour in a day or two, they're a lot better.

Do I have 100% down syndrome or is painting tank tracks way more time consuming than any other part of the tank? I'm way, way, way, way more of a player than I am a painter so I'm just going for tabletop-ish quality. I primed and base coat the tank tan, hit it with some free hand brown camo with my air brush, and now I'm doing the treads with a normal brush. Just Abaddon Black, planning on dry brushing vallejo air steel over that.

Is there a way I can rapidly paint tank treads? It feels like getting the paint in all the little nooks and crannys is very time consuming. I think next time I build a tank I'm going to prime and airbrush the treads before I glue them on.

It has been a long time since I worked with greenstuff/kitbashing but I think this is okay. What can I do to make it a bit more nurgley without going overboard on the miniature, like on the armor? I was considering drilling some holes in the plating but I'm not too sure. It ain't in the picture but I have a failed greenstuff experiment for one of the cables and a pus sac in place of flamer cable for the powerfist.

Honestly, I think you did a much better job on everything that wasn't the cloak (and the sword wings). Your highlights are pretty wide and unsubtle. You didn't drybrush, did you? Using a slightly brighter color than the main cape on the top of the raised areas, then only hitting the sharpest edges with your current highlight might help. The worst offender area to me are the lower cape areas on the bottom left and near the sword on his back as well as the top of his hood. You did nice on the left arm and right shoulder. You might wanna try and work on the transition from light to dark in the recesses of the cape - currently there's only one dark area and it runs straight into your dirtied edge effect at the bottom (which you definitely needed to have done last and not highlighted over). It looks like you started to edge highlight the cape damage on the front but decided not to on the back.

The white stuff you painted looks like you could have benefited from starting with an off white like celestra grey and working up to a fine highlight of white scar.

Your whites and the cape look pretty thick in general, but that may be your photo bringing that out.

He doesn't look awful, by any means, but I can tell you have the skill to improve it from the areas on here where you did well if you feel like pushing it.

I hope I'm not badly bursting your bubble, here. He's fun to paint though, right?
>>
>>53829842
Nice.

Yeah, I think any more and it would be way too busy. I think as it is now, it'll look properly freaky once you paint it. I like the lamprey mouth and tentacle being framed by the chaos star.
>>
>>53829463
>other painters need a thousand different shades of thinner and thinner layers of edge highlights
>do weird things like put a thick wash over a different color to get a desired color

IMO bright blue gradient to white power weapons are best on deathwatch rather than glazed color over silver (or black) because it adds variety to an otherwise mostly black and silver model (and army).
