It just seems like too random to ever trust. You could say the same about old Blast but at the very least you could decrease your scatter thanks to your BS but.. eh. Looking at the Fusion Blaster and Collider for the Ghostkeel for example, the collider has the same profile but D3 hits instead of a simple 1. Are the points you pay really that much worthwhile to get an average of 1 more hit than them? Especially when you can take a guaranteed 6 hits on the Raker?

Re-posting from the last thread to see if anyone has any suggestions.

I think I'll start 8th using something pretty close to my existing army, to see how stuff handles.

1 Battalion with Celestine and Canoness, 3 flamer/heavy flamer sisters in MM immos

1 Outrider with Canoness, 2 Melta doms in flamer immos and a small squad of seraphim

2 Exorcists wherever, and a few imagifiers to see if they're worth taking.

Should be around 2000 points.

I think we're still stuck in the 7th mindset though. Imagifiers are good and AoF are good, but they don't combo well with either dominions or exorcists, which have been our go to units for forever. I'm definitely going to look at testing out larger infantry squads, and retributors with MM and Heavy bolters, i.e. units that have a decent chance of getting an extra shooting attack at the start of the turn.

I'm returning to the game for 8th after a LONG hiatus.

I was going to be converting a bunch of models I already have or am going to purchase. What is the official tournament scene like in terms of what models they will allow on the table? Back in the day I think the rule was something like at least 50% of the figure had to be official GW sculpted stuff, to be allowed into a tournament. Does that still hold true?

I was simply going to convert some guardsmen into female troopers with some simple torso and head swaps.

What do you think about the Markerlight changes overall? Having to stack them to 5 to get +1 hit sucks for regular units but it lets you delete 1 unit per turn. Getting to fire seekers on 3+ (rr1) from skyray gunships that do mortal wounds seems really powerful

the stompa explodes on a roll of 6 if it'S reduced to 0 wounds, and everything within 2d6 inches suffers d6 mortal wounds. Rolled before unloading of passengers. It can also retreat and keep on shooting and can move over enemy units, but on the end of its movement it must be at least 1 inch away from any enemy unit. And it can fire heavy weapons without to-hit penalty.
Super-Megablasta can fire two times in the shooting phase, on a throw of 2+ on a d6. On a roll of 1, you'll be unable to fire it for the rest of the game. Can fire even a third time, but only on a 5+, else you can't fire it for the rest of the game. All orks within 6 inches can reroll failed morale tests. The save is kind of irrelevant, since almost everything that does significant damage has decent AP.

It's still weaker than before. Previously it took an average of 18 lascannon hits to kill it, now it takes 20.6, but it loses functionality as it gets damaged which the 7th edition one didn't. Previous stompa took 36 krak missile hits, new one takes just 34.3 and slows down quite quickly.

It's offensive power is significantly reduced, losing it's stomp and strength D choppa as well as the main gun being pathetic in comparison to the old one.

This is on one of the models which was generally seen as hugely over-priced and underpowered already. Then they increased it's cost and made it weaker.

When I got into 40k I told my friends Grey Knights looked neat and they gave me a codex and things snowballed from there.

I only got enough models to filed 1000 or so points and still played only here and there.

Vanquisher seems pretty much the same as the 7th edition version. Does an average of 4 damage if it hits, wounds, and is unsaved. But I don't think I've seen any vehicle thus far with 4 wounds. Or 6 for that matter. Even the chimera and taurox have 10. The vanquisher will not be one shotting anything. Ever. Or 2 shotting, realistically. I don't think it's worth it.

The pleasant surprise of this whole mess? Basilisks got a huge buff. No more disadvantages to indirect fire. No minimal range. You can just shoot anything you want with no penalties. Average of 4 shots vs battle cannon's 3.5 and demolisher cannon's laughable bullshit. And each of those shots deals d3. It's basically a long range demolisher cannon.

Priests were a bit of a disappointment since they are such a downgrade from 7th, but for what they offered in 7th for 25 points, it was kind of ridiculous. On the plus side it means there's now reason to take both Commissars and Priests.

People are going to take conscript squads just to give him free wounds. At the moment they are the cheapest Imperial allied unit. They form a tar pit just for him to counter-charge from inside of, or at the very least, 50 wounds you have to shoot instead of him.

I don't think they're mandatory they're build around units, like how Warmachine uses warcasters. You take the leader who buffs melee so you build a melee force. You take a shootie guy then you build a shootie force. Or maybe you take 2 chapter characters who buff different units?

This is good game design. Make special characters fit their fluff style

Not looking good for Guard lads. I don't think points are going to sweeten the pot, we were already reasonably costed (for the most part). Core infantry are probably better than they had been.

Tanks are looking grim though. Only T8 3+ and honestly not an impressive bevy of wounds.

The only hope I can see is that there's still lumbering behemoth/we can fire all our guns. Battle cannons look gutted. The only hope is that there is an auto order that helps with shooting or shot numbers, or we get to add hits in against hordes.

Send help. I never asked for this.
