I like that there's a lot of options, (even if some are landmines that'd blow you to high heaven), and that those good options give me diverse flavor and in combat tactics. I really dislike the full attack/charge meta thing, and don't super love prepared vancian, so PoW+SoP is a nice mix for me.

PoW is nice because it gives variety to the combat actions of martials. One of my bigger issues with SoM is that the thing seems to just facilitate psuedo-full attacks through focus cycling. HP damage is HP damage, and no matter how flavorful I do that damage, if I just stood there and only did damage for a full round, that's full attacking, and is boring as hell.

There's also stuff that encourages you to keep psionic focus on, rather than just cycle it for the purpose of spending it.

See, those are definitely problems. counters warp combat, and damage is huge. but I'll take those over boring paizo combat and trap option classes and builds.

A decent solution is to throw a lot of small hp, low ac, enemies at initiators. Their attacks will eat up counters, and they should be weak enough for 1pp martials to kill. And as a side, let the blasters feel a little cool too.

Is it just me or could Serena's app be improved by having her need a strong mother figure? Right now a lot of her philosophy has overlap with Ceraphine (who the majority here appears to be assuming will be guaranteed a spot) particularly on existential matters of loyalty and duty to a dead empire, but tie in the motherless aspect and suddenly theres a chance for a meaningful mother-daughter tie in.

Kitsune can take Swift Kitsune Shapechanger and Vulpine Pounce, so you don't even need to take Crossblooded for Beast Totem. Rage helps shore up your lower Strength, and your naturally high Dexterity makes it easier to get lots of AoOs to threaten people with, especially casters.

Homebrewing an idea for a full round recovery mechanic. Hey all I'm new to Pathfinder but I played a decent amount of 3.5 back in the day

I wanna make a Stalker that uses Steel Serpent and other debuffs but can still deal a decent if not amazing amount of damage, what is the best thing for this? Soul Hunter and Cursed Razor look cool, but im worried about not having any counters b/c I'll be using all my swift actions on claiming/stalker talents. Is there a way to get extra swift actions?

Also what's the best combat style to use? I'm gonna make a dex build so I was thinking of getting killer's implements with a spear, but maybe thrown or twf would be good too

Black Seraph looks good, but I don't think it'll work in my campaign. We're gonna be playing in a large city as a sort of police division that hunts fiends and people who work with them, so I probably can't get away with using an evil discipline. (Also my DM is gonna let me take Celestial Poisons as a stalker art so steel serpent won't be useless).

I can't speak on SoP, as I've never really looked into the ruleset, but I can confirm that PoW is better balanced than Anima.

For instance, most characters in PF are at least on par with one another at level 1, right? Not so in Anima. characters have wildly different HP values based on their HP score, usually somewhere between 40 and 150. At one point, I decided to see how far I could push a "tough guy" character, and ended up with an obscene 450 HP (Far more than even most level 10 characters have, in a 15 level game) and the ability to literally no-sell attacks from every enemy in the game that wasn't level 6 or up (and level 7 is described as "around this time, you have army destroying power").

It is not good, has obvious exploits, has a huge number of problems even in the things that work, and has such a power bloat that even the lower-end character options can obviate a GM's plot. It's downright wacky how bad it is.

Earth Breakers are still going to do the same average damage as a Greatsword though. The Nodachi is just worse until really high levels, or on dexbuilds where a bardiche would be better. Brutal Slayer is literally the only time I'd say it'd be worth it at level 1 to use a Nodachi because of Brutal Strikes not getting anything for a higher multiplier like Deadly Strikes does.

How do your structure an investigation themed game (or smaller arc in a larger game) to be good? If the PCs have to look around a city for clues and follow the trail to fun a culprit, how do you keep it from just feeling like the players are just waiting to be fed the next hint coming down the pipe that tells them where to go next? Leaving things vague enough that the players need to think seems fun in theory but can easily lead to the players getting stuck aimlessly wandering around on completely the wrong track.

That fascinating dynamic, which is indeed fascinating, is never explored. You will never meet Hitayo Kikuchi the Tian Swordsman living in Restov and all the roleplay that implies, you will most likely meet that character and the culture shock is never shocking or even present, or the character isn't Tien at all but some mongrel mix of native and foreign that results in the character going nowhere.

It's like... People just don't want to get into the headspace of being human beans in a Renaissance world. You never get Ulfen treating pepper as an exotic good, or a Brevic seeing sugar and going wild at how rich and kingly such a thing is.
