This little friendo finishes up my current Custards list, so now it's just off to priming/painting and then things are good to go.

Also, anyone know if Retributor Armor Spray is bad for health or something? All the local stores have dropped it (including the GDubs one, so I dunno what's up) and the website says it's a hazardous product. I don't buy primers offline ever, so wtf is with it? Will I get sprAIDS to go with my Resin Cancer?

I have no problem with angelic iconography for the BAs, but many seem to think their 40k codex made them blonde Space Wolves with "Blood" instead of "Wolf". Like the vampire boys to their werefags.

The BoP guide for Dangels is really good. Base Abaddon, edge everything eshin, detail edge dark reaper, sharp curve edge thunderhawk blue. desu makes them look better than Templars, the grey-blue makes for a much better contrast especially when you put lots of red checkers/symbols on.

So, I've been contemplating some lore for my Night Lords chapter. My thoughts on them are a little scattered, but I have a basic summary cobbled together.

Thinking that they've long been strongly loyal to Curze and Sevatar, particularly the former's dedication to justice (or what they perceive, at least). They prize order above all else, and believe greatly in it being the epitome of civilization, and see order as the perfection of sapient life, maybe seeing Curze's rule of Nostramo as the model to follow: through the threats of absolute terror, order is achieved. When Curze went comatose and Sevatar scattered the fleets, they obeyed. The chapter opposed the Imperials for their general rejection of the Night Lords, and the Traitors for their submission to obviously erratic and heinous powers (even by their [somewhat hypocritical] standards).

Giving this another try since last time I got a lot of neat ideas for fluff, but little practical advice: I got a box of tartaroi that I don't need as a unit, so I want to make a bunch of consuls from them. Which WE or TS consuls would benefit from tartaros armor? I already have a Primus Medicae in terminator armor for both legions, so that is covered.

For some, they're alright as a bargain-bin unit. Thousand sons, Imperial Fists and Emperor's Children can use them well. But they are completely outclassed even with legion buffs

They're shit, pure shit. A legion champion with artificer armour is 95 points, a praetor is 100. For that extra 5 points the praetor gets +1W, +1A, +1Ld, and MotL. The champion gets master crafted, which is certainly nowhere near as good as an extra attack. The praetor has much better options as well, like a paragon blade or iron halo. The champion needs to be either significantly cheaper or significantly killier to make them worthwhile.

Decided that I wouldn't mind having a Legion army alongside my Mechanicum, and because daemony conversions look fun I've been leaning towards Word Bearers. All of those things look really cool and I want them. I was thinking of a couple Ashen Circle and Gal Vorbak squads jetting forward/deepstriking, and a backline of a couple dreads and Vindicators or maybe Rapier batteries with dudes casting buffs on them and maybe summoning a few daemons. If you take the RoW that allows you to take daemons as allies you have to keep in mind that you cannot take more than one heavy support choice. If you don't take daemons then the rest of ideas are perfectly viable. As a fellow Word Bearer bro I would suggest taking vindicators as they look really cool with lots of scripture and colchisian runes

It's funny how people start talking about you again just when you have something to share. I've kept out of these threads for a while as they've been a bit of a cesspool of late (a bit of an understatement on my part), but as always I like to do shit for people whether they deserve it or not.

That's how we all start as WB, then we start tossing our legion-specific stuff for generic stuff like Vets while relying on our nice morale boni.
Here's a friendly advice from another WB player: Ashen Circle are garbage, Mhara Gal are overcosted like woah and have schizo rules, aour special rules bar True Believers are mediocre at best and our unique RoWs are shit.
Gal Vorbak are good, though they don't benefit from Legiones Astartes, which is also dumb.

Yeah, a 12" range if you move isn't brilliant. Otherwise it'd be perfect. Maybe that profile but Assault 3, with a special rule like the laser vindicator has that it can fire two more shots if the custodes stands still. Not very elegant rules writing, but none of the shooting types in the game quite fit.

Different anon here, I think they're one of those units that suffered when assault squads got a big points drop. For the same points as 5 ashen circle you can get 10 assault marines, who can also take power axes (though only 1 in 5) if you want those. And ashen circle don't really have enough going for them over assaults to justify that.

Like I say, it's not a problem unique to them, a lot of legion-specific units struggle against their generic counterparts at the moment.

At least S10 with something special (maybe armorbane on the fist, but pretty sure not D) to sell the model, and that cannon imo looks too big to just be an arachnus, like I don't get why they'd do rotator gun unless it's firing 2-3 shots.

I actually don't want it better than AV13, hopefullly it's just 13/12/12 like a knight. 4++ sounds right too as the leviathan of the Custodes. Couldn't even try to guess, but I'm certain the missile launcher will be cool, either a legit scary gun or one of the "good, not great" type launchers Knights have on top.

Little to early to say that. There's a lot of things I personally like from what we've heard of 8th so far, but the big thing is going to be when unit & weapon stats come out, along with points costs, so we can get an idea what the faction balance is like. I disagree, in AOS this can punish units of multiwound models pretty nastily. While it's obviously harder to make them run in the first place by inflicting multiple casualties, every model that does run is a big loss. While custodes will probably have really high leadership, I could see mech'm not liking this if the dice are nasty. Just imagine: you manage to kill a thanatar (or snipe a magos dominus), your opponent rolls a six, and the other thanatar in the cohort just disappears! An extreme example, I'll admit, but pretty spectacular if it comes off.

Ashen circle are excellent against solar auxilia and mechanicum, especially the latter. Their strength 5 attacks combined with strength 5 hammer of wrath = a lot of hurt for thallax, ursarax, myrmidons, vorax, scyllax, ogryns, or any other t5 non power armor guys. They can also lay a ton of wounds on t3 infantry like solar auxilia or militia/cults with their hand flamers. Against the aforementioned opponents and a handful of others, I think they're really quite good. Against meqs, teqs, custodes, and monstrous creatures they're meh.

Your army is a tool box, pick the right tool for the job. Ashen Circle are excellent in the right spot.

We only have the outlines of the rule at the moment, but if it's like AoS then you'll get a +1 to Ld for every 10 models, making blobs a bit more durable. I'd expect things like a vexilla to provide a boost as well.

I'm playing around with Word Bearers lists, despite not having the regular Army List because both links in the MEGA are for the Legions book. Am I locked into a Primarchstar if I take Lorgar. I dislike Spartans and huge squads, so I was thinking about picking Levitation and Precognition (plus something else, maybe a Biomancy buff or Psychic Maelstrom) and having him float around with a 5-beastie Gal Vorbak squad. Is that legal, and will it get me murderised or not? I'm looking at about six Mastery Levels in total, plus perhaps a couple more from summoning if I can spare dice for it ever. Not allying Daemons, but I may have some Levy blobs and try to summon in the Doomsday Bell to spook people with.

I like it, but here are my thoughts.
(In no order)
1) The rust on the posts makes them look like cheetos, leave some darker stains or un-rusted pieces to help break it up.
2) The highlights aren't very fine, and take away from the muted grey
3) For the scroll work on the torso, try it on a piece of paper first so you can practice painting words / runes that small. Right now it just looks like stained paper
4) You missed a mould line on the top of the assault cannon
5) Why is the chainsword facing outward when the rest of the hand grips inward?

Well, funnily enough the BoP painting guides for those two were basically identical, they had to do one as a terminator to make it less obvious. But generally the extra gold on TSons, and the white bolters a lot of people give them, make them stand out.

Templar brethren are one of the best loyalist non terminator melee squads. With furious charge, they're brutal first round.

Invicatrus Mary-Suzerains are also up there but can get bogged down with their low attacks and so need to hit things like terminators with their at initiative ap2.

A gun's a good idea if you're giving them poisoned ammo for the rotor cannons. A volkite charger dovetails nicely in terms of range, but a bolter will do fine too.

A lot of people seem to give their praevian boarding shield, so if the unit somehow gets charged themselves the enemy doesn't get bonus attacks.

Oh, and meltabombs, vorax will struggle against dreds.

(pre-warning that this is gonna be a 3-part post, cause I have pictures...)

I was wondering if I could pick your brains for some suggestions re: my Custodes army, and how to tweak the appearance of the squads so that each of them looks unique. I already have a few ideas on that front which I'll share with you, but I wanted to see what suggestions you might have as well, and get a critique on those of my own.

First pic is what I have so far, which is going to be the base of the colour scheme. These are the first 5 of 20 Guardian custodes with the full army also including, 5 Sentinels, 1 of each Contemptor, 3-5 Termies, 5 Hetaeron, and 5 or 10 Sisters. I'm thinking of decorating the Sisters and one of the Contemptors with green-stuff nooses (maybe a big one hanging from the spear of the Achillus), but those aren't really the ones I'm worried about since the Sisters are basically the last thing on my project list

As a small force of executioners whose duties were largely ceremonial in the beginning, I envision each squad generally having a role to play in the whole pageantry of the act as well. As I mentioned the Sisters ('the Hangman's Daughters') would be the wardens of the condemned, guarding them until the day of execution, the Sentinels would escort him to the chopping block, since you don't want someone spoiling your execution by killing the condemned early, and so on.

As for little things I'm already planning to do to differentiate the various units, the gems of each 5-man unit are going to be a different colour, not to mention I'm going to do my best to vary up the posts and piece combinations.

For the Hetaeron, I'm going to go with the black colour schemem and have been saving up my cloaks so I'll have one on all of them, done in a very dark purple, kinda like the Praetorians looked in Gladiator (pic related). I'm trying to decide whether I should do the leather in purple as well, or if I'm unlikely to find something that is the right shade?

They're going to be one of the later units I do anyway, since I'm still crossing my fingers for a unit pack, and have plenty of things to work on in the meantime.

Also going to have 2 Vexilla among the Guardian squads. And I was thinking one of those squads would be in the black colour scheme too. But aside from using different shades of leather, or putting red on the shoulder pads of one of the squads (I was thinking of doing that to the Sentinels, btw), I'm not sure what else I'm going to do there.

This is the colour scheme I was wondering about for my Prefect at the moment (essentially Warder helmet on standard gold armour). But I'm not sure... I don't want to go overboard on this theme, and that can be easy to do. Besides it's not as if I hate the standard gold, and the more practice I get at it the better I'll be.

Well, after a year of listening to 30k podcasts and posting here without actually playing, I've bought Burning of Prospero, some genuine FW bits, and maybe some recast ones too because I was running out of hobby money.

There'll be plenty of White Scars on bikes and jetbikes, but I'll try to use two squads of vets or support/heavy support marines, and occasionally the Tartaros dudes. Heavy support might get Mk II armor if I actually use them - without dreads, missile launcher marines seem like the best source of anti-air. Flamer or melta support marines will get plastic Mk III.

Gotta find some power glaives (3rd party?) and Mongolian bare heads now.

I haven't built the Sisters of Silence in my BoP box yet... I really prefer the look of the ones with bolters, but everyone says swords are the way to go. What do? Are the bolters totally useless, or just a little worse?

I feel sisters with bolters are about as good as tactical marines with bolters, i.e. not amazing if you actually want to kill stuff. Cheaper (points-wise) if you just want warm bodies to stand on an objective though.

On the other hand sisters with swords can do the magic non-unwieldy AP2 thing, which is pretty rare.

Actually, that's a thought. Orbital Assault says it confers deep strike to models wearing "terminator armour", so in the same vein as the IF storm shield malarkey (doesn't specifically call out tartaros, just terminator armour or cataphractii) can you use Orbital Assault to give teleport to units in cataphractii or tartaros?

Just starting out, can units with the deep strike special rule - like Gal Vorbak - deep strike without the deep strike RoW?

Orbital Assault just refers to "Terminator armor" so it means any of them.

That's the thing, the SoH aren't like the other plebs, teleport strikes are THEIR thing, and it's not only silly how they need to pay 715pts as tax to teleport two termie squads, but the fact the Warmaster can only teleport a single squad while Perturabo can grant teleport to all his termies is what I call standard FW bullshit.
And then the Fists teleport all their infantry, because boarding torpedoes are for plebs apparently :^)

That should be the indomitus's thing. Catapharactii get the 4+ invuln at the expense of running and sweeping advance. Tartaros get sweeping advance etc but only have 5+Invuln. Indomitus has 5+ invuln with no sweep but has deep strike.

I don't think it's worth stressing about 8th. It might happen to 30k, it might not... but think about how different 30k feels from 40k under the current rules. That should still be the case under a different set of rules. The only risk is that FW will rush things.

I think Horus's mere presence should enable a Teleporter assault. Their LA rules are already half of an Explorator Proteus for Tip of the Spear.

What's the matter? Many primarchs allow termies as troops. He doesn't, and only allows his to teleport, because the Logos has all trinquets including TWO teleport beacons (because it also has a nuncio vox too). His ships lack windows because he knows they're things people think are cool but aren't practical things, same happens with termie troops vs teleporting ones.
