Fluff aside AP3 is the only thing they really have going for them. The AM version's PCS using all volley guns and "Fire one my target" can be pretty devastating but don't expect to get away with that more than once a game

I run an IH army with mostly dreds and predators, dropping in 3 dreds. I'm finding myself lacking in large blasts and anti mob weapons.

I know people don't usually expect drop pods to do anything besides carry dudes, hold objectives and explode, but the storm bolter has been worthless in most of my games, always miss with one shot, and wound with the other only half the time.

How are scout sentinels? They cost fuck all to run 3 with heavy flamers and thy look like they would be great to clear a few backfield units before they eat shit. You wouldn't have to kill much to make their points back and they would be annoying as fuck for your opponent to deal with.

Sure anon, trading one 4up for another will save you from anything when on average 20 bolter shots will cause 8 wounds. Oh shit, that's 4 casualties. Add the guy that died last turn to gets hot and your looking at a very dead overcosted unit. with the amount of low ap ignores cover currently shitting up the game their odds of survival shrink with every faction update. At least you can ally them with guard for FRFSRF and ignores cover.

So I recently got home from the Mega Battle of Rise of the Primarch. It was 9 Imperial Players vs 6 chaos players.
One of those Imperial Super Friends players was a Tau Player. My side of the 8 shape it was My glorious Emperor's Children and some Crafty Thousand Sons...vs. Tau and Tallons of The Emperor. Poor fools didn't realize what was about to happen to them.

So turn 1 while my Allies got into a fire fight with the Tau I was dealing with the Sister's of Silence and the Emperor's Janitors. Both of whom could only stand there with their dick's in the breeze on turn one. They just stayed in place happing and slicking on their turn one. Slaanesh normally would be pleased but even the Prince of Excess knows that the battlefield is not the time for that.

Meanwhile the low lunar gravity made it easy for us to close on those fools. We were in firing range with relative ease, and more than one of them got their dicks or clits shot off. I probably should have put my auto cannons into the mute bimbos but I was thinking of the free rending and put those shots into the Land raider that more mop and bucket guys were cruising around in...if it actually moved.

20 bolter shots would mean a full, 10 man marine squad has gotten within 12" without any hassle. For the squad with Hotshot volley guns, those marines would have been blasted apart far sooner. Not only that, but that's a 140 point squad (that probably has some special weapons of their own), and you're complaining about a 200 point one? Yeah, an expensive squad is vulnerable to another expensive squad killing it if they suddenly appear at close range without warning.

Played a match against my friend today with my Ynnari+Haem Covens. He was playing IG+AdMech. I fucking love the Grotesquerie, ripping Guardsmen squads up left and right. My Trueborn did some work, but I positioned badly and lost a bunch of potential for them. The Archon absolutely botched it. Rolled a 1 on my first save with his Shadow Field and he was promptly sucker-punched with fire and went down the turn he deepstriked onto the table. The succubus rolling with the Incubi managed to rip open a squad every turn before they could even strike back, though. We had fun and it was a blood bath, went to turn 7 and I won 20-15 because I got really good objective cards.

We were told to bring 1,000 points each...there were 9 Imperial players and 6 chaos players... Rangers are much worse than Vanguard

If your Vanguard Alpha gets into combat he'll likely be dead regardless of what weapon you put on him so a ranged weapon is a better choice
The dragoons are advisably in units of 3
Onagers in the same squad have the shoot at the same target. The invuln boost is negligable. ALWAYS put eradication beamers on them, or 1 beamer and 1 icarus array if you expect flyers. Never forget the extra stubber as it's an extra wound before your main weapon gets destroyed.
I would advise getting Peltasts or perhaps Infiltrators.

So I turned around reveling in my glorious victory for Slaanesh to find out our slave Tyranids were tabled...and the Khorne Demonkin were struggling against the remaining guard but they had managed to get ride of the Grey Knights. The Right flank where I was the Tau were driven onto the center battle field we were strong and the Thousand Sons were moving into the central battlefield...

Anyway yes...that's a bunch of Cattachan's who happened to deep strike mishap there. They weren't there long before the Spawn went godzilla on them.

Finally we wipe our whole flank clean labeling one player and the other is on the ropes. I'm down 4 bikers and a Spawn. But my lord is still at full wounds and so is my Demon Prince...we are ready to hit that flank and ...why is everyone packing up. Damn it they declared it an Imperial Victory at the start of turn 4....

Nicassar supposedly only use Telekinesis. It's how they fly their ships. I don't think that would upset too much. The only thing potentially abusable with current Tau units there is the 5++ invuln dome, but that only helps out gunlines.

They could also set it up like some other units, where they automatically know a specific powre from Telekinisis to fit the role. Maybe make it a vehicle with Psychic Pilot to further cut down on the chance of people joining a unit to it or trying to make a deathstar.

Re-posting with a revised list from last thread and I hopefully won't be distracted from my computer this time:

I don't play outside my friend group and we're casual-competitive, so we play to win, but don't cheese each-other too much. The stakes are only as high as bragging rights and we usually go out to dinner after the match and talk about how it went. With that context, how would this list fare? Just about every army is represented in our group. And skill levels really don't vary much, I think my weakness is positioning, otherwise we're pretty similar in the group. The extent of the cheese in our group is a Tzeentch/Khorne list that the Daemons player is fucking insane at rolling and makes like the best outcomes possible from all his flippy-flappy chaos tables. I'll be playing our AdMech guy, who happens to also own Eldar CSM and Blood Angels, but I'm expecting WarConvo or something similar depending on if he builds his Knight or not. I'm just giving context so I don't get raged at for taking this list on newbies.

Commander is going to stick with one of the drone squads and provide almost guaranteed markerlights on high-priority targets. Fusion Crisis will be trying to pop the Onagers and other high T units, while Plasmas will go after the higher priority gunners like Vanguard with their radiation shit. Riptide will fly in danger close and try to take advantage of the Commander-lights to pop the Kataphrons or Onagers first with Novacharge or depending on enemy deployment, try to maintain a 3++. Broadside will be nice to snipe with, and the IonHead will drop some nice Battle-cannon equivalents on people. Pathfinders are there because I don't own any other FA options that aren't drones. OSC will try to "*teleports behind you*" the Onagers.

If anyone has other general strategy tips/loadout tips, I'd appreciate them.

Not bad for your first model. Most people's first model looks like absolute bloated caked on shit, but we can actually see what the fuck yours is so you're already a step ahead of the norm.

Watch some WarhammerTV videos and you'll get some pretty solid tips for painting. Also, always remember that two thin coats is lightyears better than one thick coat.

Also, white is probably the most difficult color to get to look well (the next is probably yellow, followed by black), so don't get discouraged.

Lastly, don't forget that you're not trying to win a competition, you're just trying to have fun while making your army look cool. 99.99r% of the time you'll be painting to the "three foot standard" anyway (the model looks good when it's on a table and you're three feet away). Any paintjob is better than being the doofus with yet another boring gray plastic army.

How would I go about converting my Eversor into Krombopulos Michael? I was thinking of using a GSC Neophyte head and throwing on some Genestealer or Broodlord legs. Maybe I could thin the legs with a knife and put greenstuff over it to get the tights look, but with thinner legs.

I'm pretty sure most Tyranids don't have any sort of biological sex, since they aren't designed to reproduce. Of those that do, I believe Hormagaunts are all Hermaphrodites with both sets of parts so they can slowly build up a population if left unattended out of any 2 individuals.

Outside of that, you have Tervigons which are technically female, and possibly some of the other units that generate other units or living ammunition. Norn Queens and Hive Ships that take care of the actual breeding and creation could be considered to take a female role, but probably aren't from a strict definition.

It depends a lot on the world, but the odds are pretty low that you'll be living in comfort. Best-case scenario you're a noble or you live on an agri-world. Noble is unlikely, and agri-world you pretty much get a massive chunk of land to farm with pretty high-tech machines and send food to other planets.

Worlds that are 21st century style are pretty rare. Outside of that, you likely live somewhere feudal that doesn't even know marines are a thing outside of sky gods. You might work on a more industrial planet, and basically have to deal with 18th century safety standards while you toil.

At any given time, you can probably be killed or taken for any number of things and reasons.

Missile broadsides are objectively better. Why would you put the targeting on the rail rifle anyway? You've got one shot with it, and anything you're trying to take out with that wouldn't give a shit about a single smart missile being dropped specifically on it.
That's an excessive amount of markerlights, drop the stealth suit ones and don't even bother attaching the commander to the unit, 5 squads at BS3 will give plenty.
Give Longstrike smart missiles for better infinite overwatch.
Don't put target lock on all members of a unit, and remember that any model firing at a different unit won't get the improved BS from coordinated firepower.
Counterfire is wasted on a riptide that's making 2-5 shots and not 14-16.
You're wasting the potential of the engram neurochip by not giving the commander a unit that will benefit from it, like those plasma crisis suits
Not everything needs to be loaded with wargear. Those flamers on the crisis suits are very unlikely to kill things that would want to charge crisis suits. Save on the other wargear I've mentioned and you could probably afford a second broadside. That's another auxiliary formation you can take.

though by what we've seen so far i reckon this will be a bigger change on par wity 2e-3e if not bigger. So old books will be obselete and we'll likely get AoS style day 0 rules only PDFs.

I genuinely don't understand this attitude. I mean yes, if you want a 10/10 golden daemon paintjob you need to paint before assembly. The thing is, that it isn't really that hard to paint after assembly to a standard that is quite good. It's also easier to hold and paint the things with all the parts in place and being able to hold the base. No one ever sees those bits on the chest the gun is covering unless you are holding it 2 inches from your face and looking top down.

Besides, Fire Warriors can't even advance past Shas'ui officially, but they still have Fireblades as an HQ.

I am going to build an army based on what a rogue trader would have access too. Going to have a CAD of IG as the core, An Inquisitor & retinue for my rogue trader, and a Skitarii maniple to represent admech ties. Going to do something similar to pic related as my trader. I want some xenos mercs to add some flavor, but I don't want kroot and they retconned hrud into not space skaven.

All who wear the mantle of the hero (suits in all types) are Shas'Ui or higher.

Here how it goes.

A Shas'la (basic FW) does 4 years of service and then signs up for a trial by fire. If he succeeds, he is promoted to Shas'Ui with the right to use a suit.

Shas'Ui after spending 4 years of service may also sign up for a trial by fire to advance to the rank which is 'Vre. Shas'Vre act as a the sub-commanders and bodyguard of the Shas'O.

Of course, I don't have to explain how advancing to Shas'O works. It's the same process. 4 years and a trial of combat.

It should be noted that it's optional for the Tau to advance through the ranks. A Tau might choose to stop his/her career at any rank for multiple reasons. The Fireblades being an example of this.

It's basically an HQ command squad that's a variable amount of weird xenos, from 1-15 I think.

Downside is you'll need troop options, though you have a pretty wide selection there depending on how you go about it.

Could also pick up a Beastmaster from DEldar for even more weird Xenos animals.

Orks like getting paid in weapons and tanks. Sometimes Imperial Agents purposely pose as Rogue Traders and hire ork warbands to send them into heavy fighting, to ensure their numbers are thinned out (while imperial casualties are kept to a minimum), or to spy on their activities.

In fact we have a lot of lore showing that people still go to the movies and have parties and friends, still have bars and sports and videogames. The amazing thing about people is that we get used to stuff pretty well. Even the people in the worst of war torn ghettos in our world aren't unhappy all the time.
