Do you guys think carrier/dreadnought-tier Titles and Contracts would solve their problems of expensiveness? They would be more difficult to deal with and could only be done by said ship classes, but they'll at least allow you to build one.

I'm going to emphasize that they'll be difficult, though.

If you break up titles by ship size then you should add some more that are "general" that any ship size can take. The good is that you may take care of cost issues, the bad is that you're limiting choices so you'd need to add more.

Considering it originally just meant 'a female spirit that temps men to sin and folly' - it didn't originally mean 'sex demon' to begin with, they fed off ANY foul deed they could con men into doing. Untamed Lust is just the easiest sin and folly to manipulate, especially for a shape-shifter/illusionist.

EX Rank +2 modifier, Anti-world ability
Nicht
The ability send anything into a dimension of nothingness, through the use of constructs of any shape and size that can be freely manipulated (throwing, spawning at a location etc.).
Can be selectively utilized to only send what the user wants within its touch (for example, it can cut through someone behind a pillar without damaging it)
Requires no mana as long as construct's volume is within a meter cube, mana cost increases as its volume grows.
Unblockable due to it being an extradimensional phenomenon and not magic or physical attacks.

A servant from another dimension, who does not start battles unless first attacked.
Although not exceptionally powerful in combat, she possesses any extremely dangerous ability.
>>
>>52651583
Just for Carriers/Dreadnoughts, I think. Battleships or less can make pretty good builds with the current options.

could the NP be disabled by effects?
>>
Is everyone designing Fate builds going to ignore that once you pass a certain power threshold in the Nasuverse Gaia and/or Alaya will do their best to erase you?
>>
>>52653826
thats only for humanity as a whole, individual servants just have to deal with the mana required to sustain themselves.

and besides - even with all of the shenanigans pulled you wont compare to Solomon, Aruleid or any of the grands - hell gilgamesh could take most of these build without going 100%
>>
>>
>>52653791
Statwise yea, but aside from the battle continuation skill she's only human and doesn't have much fighting experience

I saw one build that cancels offensive nps, which would work on this. Unless constructs are spawned, it can be avoided or if you are lucky you dodge it. I think luck stat of B and above will keep you pretty safe
>>
>>52653874
Anything that has the potential to threaten the earth itself can invoke the wrath Gaia, which means Arcueid picks up her horse cock strap on and mounts you.

Anything that can threaten humanity as a whole can invoke the wrath of Alaya which is basically 10x worse.

Then there's also the Tower who have access to even more bullshit than Gilgamesh himself.

I'm pointing this out because some builds have this "air" of arrogance and genuinely seem to think they're becoming overpowered world enders. Lol no.

Let me rephrase then: I like a succubus who isn't overly sexual and doesn't make it blatantly clear she's a succubus.
Like the girl on the left. You don't know she's a succubus. I like the assumption that she's using charm and guile instead of taking off her clothes or otherwise acting like a sex-starved succubus.

Legit. The idea of a succubus (male) seducing you until you give in, even though you kept telling yourself you weren't gay, and you stop caring about it as you pound away at his boipussy.

Even better if he enslaves your dick without using magic.

> Noble Phantasm/s:

Eternal Crimson Flame : Will of the Undying
??? EX (-1) rank Noble Phantasm (Ability)

An interconnected pair of Immaterial Phylacteries, blessed by the god of death, bonded to the very core of the soul itself in an endless paradox.
Has several interconnected passive capabilities and effects:
1) The Eternal Crimson Flame can hold a limitless amount of mana (and/or life force), but it produces none on its own - that mana must come from somewhere else.
2) As long as the Eternal Crimson Flame contains mana (and/or life force), the holder cannot die.
3) Automatically repairs any and all damage, injuries, or damaging afflictions to the holder at a rate of 10% of total body mass every second. Removed appendages are repaired stemming from the head, and the holder remains functional during this process. For every 1% of body mass repaired, it costs 2.5% of the average life force of an average human in excellent health. Excess Mana/Life Force used for repair is bled into the environment and can be detected by a skilled magus.
4) Renders the holder incapable of feeling pain (which is a mixed bag of nuts if you think about it). Their body is effectively dead as long as the effects of the Eternal Crimson Flame are active, and will stay around room temperature.
5) These effects can be shared with one other through a somewhat complex ritual (which takes about 24 hours), but the mana (and/or life force) pool is shared. Any repairs to the shared 'holder' is twice as costly and only half as fast. The shared 'holder' will also be unable to feel pain, and will soon be room temperate. This sharing can be nullified at any time by the true holder of the Eternal Crimson Flame, at which time the shared 'holder' will return to normal.

And another, yet to come.

The Sword of Gall : End of the Noble
Anti-Unit EX rank Noble Phantasm (Weapon)

A nameless holy sword forged by the hand of death and cast upon the world to bring an end. It is said that from its edge bleeds a most infernal poison which would fell all but the most hardy of beings, even some lesser gods, with but a single drop ingested.
The sword bleeds a poison known in legend as 'gall' (bile), which is produced using the mana of the wielder, and can be thrown from the blade if so desired.
The 'Gall' can easiest be described as an acid which rapidly eats away ANYTHING; material, immaterial, or even conceptual; that it comes in contact with - including the wielder of the Sword; however, the gall can be dissipated at the wielder's command.
While a servant could resist the effects of the 'Gall' with their Endurance, only the highest of the divine (Divinity EX/+) are truly immune to this sword's wrath. Lesser Divinity will, however, see the 'Gall' have lesser and lesser effect on them the more divine they are.

Death Scythe : Harvester of Souls
Anti-Unit B rank Noble Phantasm (Weapon)

An ancient farming tool closest described as a scythe with a reversed and much longer blade curved back towards the end of the handle originally used for cutting bushels of grain. This particular piece, however, has become something of legend itself, supposedly cursing whatever it cuts to die, and taken on a haunting and grim appearance.
Functionally, it is a giant but incredibly light weight (because of the thin blade) axe.
While the legned is what it is, the actual effect of the Death Scythe is that it absorbs mana and life force from whatever living being (or servant) it cuts, up to and including everything the victim had if the Death Scythe were to kill them.
This mana and life force can be used for whatever purpose the wielder desires, or stored.

Judging only by the surface, one may be tempted to say that this maiden in black appears to be the embodiment of apathy, but just below her shell of ice burns an unyielding passion for justice - raw, unyielding justice, without a single iota of mercy. That's gay. In fact, it might even be the most feminine, passive, and disgraceful form of sex on the planet. Getting overpowered and fucked by a man is one thing, but to lift up your ass so a woman can somehow ass-fuck you... Anon, you're definitely the gayest creature on this planet.

Because Gilgamesh realizes it is counterproductive. He'd still get killed by Alaya if he actually tried anything.

No, the cyoa being real on a meta-level. That's my criteria. Usually cyoas set in virtual worlds strongly imply that once you log out, you "lose" everything.

I dislike those cyoas for the same reason I dislike books that end with "it was all a dream. The end."

From a conversation a few years back when you were updating the first version of Stardust, before the v2 thing or these recent changes.

You talked about the previous relationship between the two and how Ley'ra would seduce Sya'ra again at the drop of a hat, even if she was with your character.

The only detail I might be getting wrong is on which one is the lewd one.

yo SDA, I got a question

The Stealth Drones say you can use Tesla Overchargers, but limits the T2 weapons to the spinal mount. Can the Tesla only be put on the spinal mount as well? It kind of negates the free T2 weapon it comes with.

Captain Name: Damien Lee

Damien is a former Dustkeeper-turned-Merchant after he discovered an intact Herald Dreadnought, as well as a Herald Destroyer. He brought both back with him to Star Dust Station and managed to sell off the Dreadnought almost instantly, giving him a huge windfall. With it, he retrofitted the Destroyer with extensive modifications, turning it into a luxury space fortress. Dubbing it the 'Isle of Man', he then began to live the life of a trader, bringing goods across the galaxy underneath the aegis of his custom Destroyer. While many look on with envy, none have managed to defeat him and claim the ship as their own. Damien isn't even vulnerable on land, as he somehow managed to hire the infamous "Styx" as a personal bodyguard. Something seems...off, with the warp drive though, as it seems to glitch and put them a few kilometers away from the intended target.

On a non-story note, I figured out a way to make a build with the highest navigation/shields/hull, using extensive abuse of the hull mod system (no caps). It's loaded to the gills with weapons, and can match unmodified Fighters in terms of speed. The ZIP system allows me to go ever faster, and I can swap between long and close range weaponry thanks to my huge loadout. Add on a ton of drones that can harass the enemy, a full suite of cyber warfare gear to fuck with them and gather intel as a merc-for-hire, and the ability to courier things with unmatched defense means I won't ever be hurting for work. I had money to spare so I basically wasted it on more skills and I almost purchased even more companions.
>>
>>52657113
Pffft. That's not that cheesy. That's basically just the average Carapace build. Which admittedly is fairly cheesy, but certainly not the cheesiest. You even used ragefires, which is the opposite of cheesy.
>>
>>52657177
I'd still say it's the cheesiest build, since having such high Shields/Navigation/Hull means you are borderline invincible. Just because it doesn't have 4 Anti-Matter Cannons doesn't mean it isn't cheesy.

No shit, Wyrm. I wouldn't try to solo a Dreadnought with that build, or any build. I'd run, which my mods and navigation would let me do. Around my weight class I can most likely win, while anything too far above me I have a massive speed advantage over.

I'm tempted to ask SDA if I could actually come out on top now, I could probably handle most of your attacks if I stick to one side of you, while you'd never hit me with a spinal mounted weapon because of my superior speed. 10 Mana Blasters wailing on you would collapse that hull fast.
>>
>>52657453
I think it largely depends on who attacks. If I Blink into the system, our hulls basically touching, and unload with my spinal cannons and half my broadside, you die immediately. In a less surprised fight, you'd be tough, but my point defense would rip up your drones, and I would be able to saturate the field with enough mana blaster shots to make dodging almost impossible.

>>52657419
I don't think it's worthwhile comparing Star Dust builds. The CYOA is supposed to have scalability in mind so of course some builds will overpower others.

Unlike Battlemage (to an extent), I treat separate builds as different canons. There may be some exceptions, like if two people decide to make builds and work together, but ultimately I'm not enforcing any sort of interactivity between players.

>>52657453
Your background is believable, coming across a big fortune and being that merchant everyone knows about. It'll ultimately come down to the amount of socialization you do, cause people are either going to be really envious of you or would rather befriend you.

If you really want my input, I don't think a single ship could take on a Mothership unless really specialized in being a "whalebuster" (which is the basis of one of my Talon test builds; I may put it to image sooner or later like pic related (which is outdated)). Then again, Wyrm's Mothership build is rather underequipped so I don't think he'd do much against your maximized shields. If anything, it'd just be a slow burning "fight" of nothing interesting happening.

>underequipped

You fuckin' wot, mate? I could load up with drones, but I hardly think they're necessary when I have that kind of output.
>>
>>52657597
Very short-ranged weapons with projectiles that travel the slowest of all weapons against an almost max navigation destroyer with the Red Dagger command mod. You're not hitting him.

Meanwhile he also has mana blasters that have to hit a near-immobile target, Tesla's to take down your shields eventually and torpedoes to crack through your hull.

And yet it's a dreadnought, so even though he might make a hole, it'll take a lot to still take down an 8.5km ship.
>>
>>52657669
If it takes him more than seven minutes, the range between us becomes zero, and I hit him with a full barrage from spinal and half my broadside. I know my ship's a lumbering hulk. That's the explicit purpose of the Blink drive.
>>
>>52657558
Thanks SDA. I imagined the guy as more of a recluse, since his ship has so many luxuries that he barely needs to leave. Plus it helps feed into the lore of Herald ships above Scabs being so highly valued and attention-grabbers. A random Dustkeeper who lucked out and got a huge fucking payday would draw a lot of ire, people tend to resent those who obtain things by stupid chance (I know a lotto winner IRL, people turned nasty real fucking fast). Plus if he is known to ferry valuable shit, he's a huge target anyways.

In regards to Dreadnoughts, it seems like the best way to deal with them would be a teleporter. Send in your crew, possibly with Mechs (I imagine the hallways are big enough to allow them to walk, if not then you just destroyed part of the structure).

Don Type: Muscle Man 3000
Family: Ma & Cindy
Power: Red Bloods
Target: Vampire in Washington

WIth Ma & Cindy we'll do a hit and drain on the vampire in washington as fast as possible. I'll have Ma make me a Vampire for added durability and then we'll drain his power to add to our own. Cindy's teleportation and dark magic/disguises should help us get in and out fast. IF we survive we get the rest of the band...er family back together starting with olaf and then move on to the dragon.

Half the fun is dealing with the titles, anon. Finding two psy-capable people while in a valuable as hell ship makes the target on your back even bigger, while unknown Herald tech taking you somewhere else is also logical.

You're the one who wanted to brag about how his build is the cheesiest build possible. I'm just pointing out that you're wrong.
>>
>>52657828
I don't actually know, come to think of it.

>>52657669 SDA, can a ship change direction mid-Blink?
>>
>>52657698
Fair enough, but it's questionable if you'd get through his 24/25 shields before he uses his command mod to get back into optimal range. That's assuming all of your mana blasters hit the destroyer with a much smaller signature radius than your ship. He also has Ragefires, PBCs and Tachyons which are almost exclusively for fighting large hulls.

Keep in mind that I'm ignoring the fact that he's fitting T3 weapons on his destroyer's broadsides while also overlooking you taking 3 titles.

>>52657701
>draw a lot of ire
You never know. Remember it comes down to your reputation. He's a merchant, so he no doubt interacts with a lot of people. How he does so, I'm not sure, which is why I'm warning him that if he's not focusing on a likeable personality, he's not going to have a good time. A smart person with that money would invest in at least protection, like hiring security and escorts. Unfortunately I didn't see anything about that on his background.

Boarding the dreadnoughts is no doubt an ideal move. I'd imagine most people would want to hijack a dreadnought rather than blow it up so it'll come down to either boarding via lamprey or using e-war to disable the teleport jammer, which is a common move.

Never cheap out on your e-war, man.

>>52657726
This. It's what I interpret the build to be in terms of fighting prowess.

>>52657736
See my points above.

>>52657753
'tis why you choose your boarding party(ies) carefully.

>>52657864
Blink moves you forward, exclusively. Whatever direction your ship is pointing is where it will blink to, and your ship will remain in the same position.
>>
>>52657915
If the destroyer is such a bother why not Blink-ram it? i doubt it can survive that
>>
>>52657915
Hrm. Yeah, I mainly armed it to deal with my nemesis, which is just as big and slow as I am, with point defense for fighters and drones. Basically the destroyer is the one kind of ship I'm actually pretty bad at fighting; small and agile enough to avoid my main guns, but strong enough and heavily armed enough to not die to point defense and actually whittle me down. Anything bigger is too slow, and anything smaller can't scratch me, but destroyers, optimized, are a pain.

Now, if you allowed mods on dreadnoughts, we'd have another kettle of fish altogether.

As for the T3 weapons on Broadside, Torpedos and Teslas don't have the restriction. On the ship page, it says that Broadside Guns can go up to T3, while on the page the only T3 weapons with a Spinal restriction are the Ragefires, PBCs, and Tachyons.

It would be interesting to see if absolutely munchkin'd Herald Destroyers could take on an absolutely munchkin'd Herald Dreadnought, assuming both had the same budget.

>>52658104
A munchkin Herald Destroyer can be made with a vastly smaller budget. Hell, I'm pretty sure that a well made Carapace would simply run out of things to spend on long before running through the amount of money that a dreadnought would take.

>>52657994
>don't have the restriction
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Never mind then, that's intended.

I mean security as in ship escorts. You're flying around an expensive ship with valuable cargo, so it'd probably be better to at least write a little about how you intend to mitigate the risks of being a lone courier other than "my ship is invincible."

I wanted to see something like that.

I am thinking of addressing hangar spaces and increasing the amount on all ships cruiser and larger. Enough to make them more enticing.

Still, dreadnoughts won't be easy to take and despite the next update focusing on making them more accessible, I want to enforce that getting one needs a seriously good reason. I complimented Wyrm for his build exclusively for the backstory he wrote, but I never said anything about it being viable in combat.
>>
>>52658168

>>
>>52658168
How about addressing the fact that ship hulls literally don't matter in this version, as their price modifier is only applied to mods? >You can buy a 50m blackhawk cruiser, and it will be better than 50m federation battleship because weapons don't scale.
If you're exclusively comparing ship hull classes then you're not thinking about it correctly. I assume you're comparing the Myrmidon to the Ogre.

The Ogre has a minimal increase in weapon hard points as compared to the Myrmidon but also has a much larger drone bay and can ultimately fit an AMC, which is the unique feature that battleships can employ.

Pit both against another cruiser and most people would lean towards the Myrmidon, as it's just that much more efficient at killing cruisers. The Ogre would struggle because of its speed, as all cruisers are faster than the Ogre and can ultimately dictate the fight. Pit both against a battleship, and it would be a more even game; the Ogre can fit an AMC for a much more efficient solution than the Myrmidon, even though the Myrmidon can fit 4 spinal mounts and thus deal decent enough damage.

Now, put both in a large fleet battle scenario. Would you rather have 40 Myrmidons or 40 Ogres? You can argue about the fact that the Myrmidons are a little bit faster, but do you think the 40 Myrmidons will be able to deal with 800 hangar space-worth of drones (unmodded and also a number that's probably going to increase with the next update) and 40 AMCs? A fleet of many Ogres ultimately serves more roles and are much stronger together.

Now, think of a large fleet in general, and not necessarily 40 Myrmidons vs 40 Ogres, but 40 Ogres vs anything that engages this fleet, and 40 Myrmidons against anything that engages them. How about 100 of each?

>>52659157
Really?
>>

>>52659405

>>
>>52659434
I'm not SDA, but cruisers seem like a good choice for a SpecOps FOB.
>>
>>52659375
My dude, you're not thinking in-universe. AMCs are supposed to be rare and used as strategic nukes, and I would argue that only like 5-10% of battleships would mount them, as other options are much better in most battle situations (more missiles, those big laser thingies etc), and those that mount them would be something like dedicated artillery platforms (that's how modern naval combat works at least, ships are specialized for their roles). Saying that "a battleship is better than a cruiser because it can mount an extremely rare situational weapon" really breaks immersion. I'm okay with cruisers (or even destroyers) killing battleships with torpedoes or some other powerful and slow weapons, especially if they do so up close and shoot at engines/reactor/bridge etc. But if you want to make a battleship only marginally better than a cruiser in all situations, then please answer what those 2.5k people even fucking doing on one? Why shouldn't we field more cruisers with only 340 crew that is almost as good and is definitely cheaper?

Swats a bunch of TIE fighters with (relative) ease, although TIE fighters are notably fragile as fuck; however, it apparently also has the guns and agility to dive through to the Death Star's central core and blow it to hell. Frigate? It seems almost too big to be one.
>>
>>52659509

>>
>>52659563
Not him, but in my headcanon if you use 2x hull reduction of a frigate you get corvette, which is smaller and faster.
>>
>>52659509
Fair enough, but you're still ignoring my point that battleships are mostly for fleet battle roles if not for acting as a mobile space station. My point is that battleships aren't for small scale battles, as it's akin to trying to kill a fly with an axe. And remember that amidst those 40 battleships are hundreds of smaller ships.

Alright, now, for update 3.0 you HAVE to make the frigate class. It's been referenced too many times NOT to do it at this point. Carries +/- 6 people, 4/5 extra rooms, 2/4 hangar space, length around 70m, I don't know about the rest you're the CYOA maker here. Just make sure you include at least one "Junker" from Hammerhead - simple salvage hauler, fell out of popularity when people realized that while it was perfect for customization, it was worse than anything else before the rather expensive modifications.

I'm not disputing a point about battleships being made for big fights, I'm saying that in current version they're not balanced to fill that role.

I understand that you might not get it without being interested in naval combat or military stuff, but just try imagining that you have a ship that needs 2500 high-class specialists to operate, and a ship that only needs 340, and they cost (almost) the same amount of money, and the difference in their combat power is marginal. If I was a ruler of a space empire, I'd spam the fuck out of cruisers and have like 20 battleships, all made exclusively for AMCs and nothing else.

TL;DR: Battleships needs balancing to fill the role you yourself made for them. I'd do something with cost and stats to distinguish them from cruisers. The fact that you can buy a 400m ship and 1.5km ship for the same amount of money, and the former will be as hardy as the latter is ridiculous. I blame it on your smug anime girl addiction.

Choosing Beatrice R&D lets you pick up drones on the cheap, strip them for weaponry, and then toss the drone. In this way, every T2 weapon I purchased had a flat cost of 3m (purchasing a Brawler drone and stripping the free weapon), and every T1 weapon I purchased had a flat cost of 1m (purchasing a basic drone and stripping the free weapon).

Missile Launchers for the Spinal mount means that I no longer have to point myself at you to use them; they fire forward, but then the missiles seek their target, wherever he may be relative to me.

A fully-loaded, armed to the teeth Dreadnought, including and E-War suite and a Beacon and a backup to make sure I can hit their systems, and the "Tribe" command module to weaken a powerful ship or slow down an annoyingly agile one.

Dragongirl
Wish Granting

Lair
Absorb Energy

Bending the rules a lot here, but I'm basically going for pic related. A pair of eastern-styled wish-granting magic-Dragongirls, generally closer in appearance to Lamia than western-styled dragongirls, living in a shrine of sorts, somewhat remote but not TOO distant or inaccessible. Our wishes and greater magic are powered or strengthened through a sort of spiritual energy, accessible through prayer and certain holy sites (ie our shrine-lair is a natural source, or at least an old reservoir).

Oh, and we can grant each others wishes too. That one's just a loophole I can't help but exploit.

I'm basically re-fluffing absorb energy to feed things that don't technically need feeding as written. The "element" I'm using technically wouldn't be allowed, but since it's not actually doing anything I couldn't do already as written I figure it's fair enough. The appearance differences are pretty major but I bought a tail, basically I'm just deleting wings and legs here. Should be able to fly via magic

Or the alternative, drop Absorb energy, take Wings, then still fluff out the appearance to exclude wings and legs (therefor justifying flight without needing to rely on Magic). Do exactly the same as above, but it's actually a farce and I'm only pretending to need energy in exchange for wishes. Also, if absolutely necessary changing appearance like this should be well within the power limits of what wishes can do anyway.

>>52659737
>I'd spam the fuck out of cruisers and have like 20 battleships, all made exclusively for AMCs and nothing else.
Except that's exactly what I have been implying for their sort of role.

Also, are you implying that I triple the cost amount of battleships? Because you have to realize that we have gone over these exact points a million times. The prices are the way they are because that's how they've become balanced for the CYOA, and this is after years of working on this CYOA; don't imply that just because battleships are a mere 10m more per hull, that their overall prices are just 10m more.

Also, you do realize that in the earlier versions, I was more "realistic" with pricing? The CYOA was also much more horribly unbalanced back then and the same argument people are giving now with being unable to fit a dreadnought was given to battleships.

And now everyone wants a dreadnought.
>>
>>52659623

This is good; I can probably have one PDF for the Monstergirls, which will also be the complete game if you just want the same thing that v.3.1 had, and then a second PDF with perks and other options.
>>
>>52660037
>And now everyone wants a dreadnought.
I'll admit I like building big ships. Though I haven't posted many of the builds I've made since they were mostly just screwing around and building big ships just for the sake of it. I did post a destroyer build a long time ago and that pair of cruisers with the long story attached to, the one where I took 3 titles.
>>
>>52660037
I liked the previous version pricing better (and modular ship system as well), and dreadnoughts were a mistake, and should've been kept for factions, not players, and yes, I told you that before. Nothing scales with ship size besides command modules and hull mods, which you could just ignore, so yeah, battleships' overall price is just 10m more. You can test it right now by just making 2 builds, a battleship and a criuser, and comparing their cost without hull mods. And yeah, of course you need more crew for a battleship, but again, that's my previous point, you have to recruit more crew, but you get almost nothing in return as crew number does nothing for combat stats right now, and it's not even implied anywhere. At least make cost increase meaningful somehow.

That said, I'm not going to whine and ask you to change everything to cater to my whims if you don't agree, I just think that you didn't capture the "feel" of what sci-fi battleships are in most forms of media in the current version. Cheers.
>>
>>52660090
Hmm, fair enough but 2 Fusion reactors and a Stalwart shield cost almost the same as 2 AM cores and an Aegis. Only difference is two more points of shields and having to hire/train for nuclear engineering.
>>
>>52660103
You might want to count those pips again. The are 3/3/1/1 so at most they take 8. And that's only the "Mothership" The others take 7.
>>
>>52660211
Oh, wow. I just assumed they went on a scale of 1 to 10 like literally every other rating that uses that bar, but yeah, energy has a different number of pips. Huh.
>>
>>52660155
I love building big ships too, but if people want to claim that they can dickwave all the problems that come their way because they have a huge ass ship with no political support, then if they ask for my assessment, I'm just gonna tell them they're a whale to be harpooned.

>>52660161
>and modular ship system as well
I don't agree to an extent, although I will admit that it can be integrated and utilized better. I much prefer the current system of buying ship models and modifying them as opposed to letting anyone build Frankenstein ships from mismatching parts.

My reluctance to include dreadnoughts mirrors exactly your concerns here, but here we are. I will give them their dreadnoughts but not without a price, and I'm going to do that in a way that rewards people who understand the amount of respect needed with the ship class and punish those who are doing it for the sake of dickwaving. And I'm going to have to do it carefully.

>which you could just ignore
Which defeats the purpose of the CYOA's mechanics and the reason why hulls are priced the way they are, as is the point of this whole discussion. You're also forgetting the ship discount rates that scales with ship class but I suppose we can ignore that too.

A lot of things are considered "meaningless" in the CYOA if you want to look at it from this perspective. As I've stated before, we can go all the way to realism and remove the need for ships larger than a few metres.

What do you mean that I'm not capturing the "feel"? Because most forms in media represent battleships as huge, with a lot of crew members, and with big guns. And it's because of this vision that I'm abandoning realism.
>>
>>52660094
Just how badly could "Uplink" screw over an enemy ship with all the E-War modules?
>>
>>52659853
>the feel when SDA never responds to your questions.
>>
>>52660279
Pretty bad. I'm considering expanding a little on e-war and adding more CyberSec companions.

Realistically, that depends on the level of security during this time period. As it is right now, information security is increasing at a faster rate than hacking, and it's becoming harder to exploit your way into a system. Vulnerabilities are becoming harder to find, and as a result, hackers/attackers are increasingly targetting the persons/employees of an organization via social engineering (like phishing).

On the other hand, we have things like IBM's Watson project (a super intelligent AI capable of interpreting unstructured data) and faster processing power. I based Uplink off of Watson and its threat to the pentesting world ("hackers" companies hire to assess their system security, etc). Why have a human pentester take a week to conduct a simple assessment when you can have Watson do the same thing in a smaller amount of time with 1,000s of different possibilities/methodologies?

So uh, that puts us in a strange place with the CYOA, to be honest. I'm just assuming that Star Dust hackers have enough high-level tools to conduct the same amount of threat that Uplink poses. Ultimately, I'm throwing realism out the window again.

At the very worst (in terms of the amount of damage you could do in the CYOA with e-war), you should be able to completely disable a ship and jettison its crew, but only if the difference in "skill" level is large enough.

>>52660379
You're free to write your own lore for the nameless mercs you can hire, but at least address the skill level difference. If it's that bad, then just use the same pricing scheme as the Gazers.

Time and time again, I'll say that I don't mind these sort of things as long as you write them well.

Byron's a Federation boy, through and through. Every male for as many generations as he looked back has been a part of the military structure, so when he reached his 18th birthday his future was essentially set in stone. A quiet child from birth, he took to combat training well enough but his abnormal perception and ability to collect 'information' shone through quite clearly to his superiors (It also resulted in a long time drill sergeant being court martialed). Deciding they had a better use for him as a special operations soldier than a grunt, he was fast-tracked into Triglav, where he was given one of the newer Crypts and told to have at it. Not one for direct combat, he prefers to enter systems and immediately go cloaked, drifting at half-speed until he gets close enough to an enemy area to hide behind an interesting piece of stellar debris that would interfere with normal scanners, then uncloaking and using his MITM Module to spy and gather data without being noticed. When forced into combat, Byron will flee if fighting alone but will use his other e-war weaponry to assist his allies from a distance, further aided by his beacon drones.

Due to an unfortunate incident regarding his Father and an Antimatter Core breach, he refuses to upgrade his ship past 'reliable' Nuclear Fission.

One question, how realistic would be for an independent guy to own and work out of a Grin Herald frigate? Could I stay independent forever if I dont piss off any major player? I would more or less outfit the thing for deep space exploration and go search for herald artifacts with friends, with enough mana blasters to make other frigates think twice about dealing with me, and of course I am going to avoid or outrun the fuck of anything bigger than me.

Maybe one or two mining harvests so I can mine high quality ore and not come back home empty handed.

My character is not going to be anything special, no huge contacts with factions, no friends in high places, just a hammerhead miner who lucked out in a huge inheritance and now wants to realize the dream of being his own boss while traveling the void in style, and the Grin being able to use mana cores would allow him to travel far than most other small adventurers.

From what I understood from the cyoa, of the herald ships only Scab and Grin are somewhat easy to have, people will get jelly, but not enough to want to kill you unless you piss them off. From Carapace and up its better to be a part of a larger faction, and always travel in great numbers.

And being the owner of a Mothership is literally like being a naked hot female elf inside a orcish war camp in the mating season.

>One question, how realistic would be for an independent guy to own and work out of a Grin Herald frigate?
So, the best way I can describe this without having to come up with a whole explanation is to put yourself into the shoes of the "NPCs" of the setting.

Consider the level of technology around, like how Hammerhead is the most common ship manufacturer and the level of tech the Feds employ, who are considered highly capable space farers. How would they feel if they see you flying around in a Herald ship? At the very least, they'll ask questions.

I would not say that the Herald frigate would attract a supremely amount of unwanted attention, but at least enough to attract scrutinizing eyes from everyone.

If you have an alibi that's believable to these individuals, then sure, they're likely to shake it off on you owning one. And it sounds like you have a decent enough reason; Herald ships make for great exploration ships and as you are something along the lines of a Dustkeeper (at least that's what they'll compare you to if you aren't one), I would say you're in relatively okay terms.

>And being the owner of a Mothership is literally like being a naked hot female elf inside a orcish war camp in the mating season.
Best explanation I've heard.

Companion is a mage lady looking to join a group of adventurers, and takes me along because why the fuck wouldn't she want a handsome magic/luck generator by her side when things get heavy? Even if I'm kind of a braindead idiot who gets lost unless someone is holding his hand. At least I'm tough enough to handle being in the thick of a fight without much trouble.
I honestly feel it'll be light-hearted series of adventures.

While I dick around with Stardust more, let me give you the BEST build.

> What do you mean I only have one listed male employee? I assure you this is not THAT kind of cruise liner.

And then all the women flock to Vito Lozano, leaving you all alone.

I'm happy someone took Cassandra.

Good ol' "Thousand Dicks" Lozano

Inspired entirely by her, if it makes you feel any better.

I assume you'd want the ship intact after, so that might not be the best plan.
>>
>>52661323
Oh come on, it's a battleship. It's like a kilometer long. So what if a 200m chunk gets taken out of it? That still leaves you with 4/5ths of a battleship!

>How would they feel if they see you flying around in a Herald ship? At the very least, they'll ask questions

Yeah, going from poor miner who is working two turns for extra cash one week, and flying a herald ship next week would make some people suspicious, both friends and other groups at large.

My main idea is to really become a dustkeeper, with enough fame to stop everyone from asking me all the time if I stole this ship or not, I guess this is where competent crew members come, to help sell the idea I am a competent guy and not just some miner totally out of his depth.

Well, its nice to know I can fly the Grin without being blown to pieces instantly simply for having the audacity of having my own herald ship, thanks for the answer.

More Stardust. A Herald destroyer and fighter. A pretty standard build, I think, but fun nonetheless.

>the Rhino, a frigate, has more hangar space than the SO7-DD, the TCO-7B, the Prospect, the Manticore, the Glaive, the Orestes, or the Er'el, all cruisers
Defend this.
>>
>>52661520
If a battleship has 20 rooms, and two hull reductions removes two rooms, then two hull reductions is a 10% reduction in the room on a battleship. This is a 20% reduction, so it's basically just a doubly effective hull reduction!
>>
>>52661677
While the Rhino by default has a larger hangar, all the cruisers can be upgraded with hangar expansions that give them much more room than the Rhino, while frigates like the Rhino are capped at 8 hangar space maximum. A cruiser that is built for hangar space will have much more than a Rhino could ever have.
>>
>>52661677
It's fucking slow for a frigate, and has very few weapon slats so it's clearly optimized for hanger space at the expense of everything else? While all those cruisers you mentioned clearly sacrificed hanger room for other things.

I whipped this up on a couple of hours with the frustration that I had for fucking up Metallicana (waifus Vs Robots). I haven't spellchecked, so it's probably a mess to read.
Feel free to leave suggestions or critiques or whatever. I'm still sort of mad, frankly, so apologies if I lash out.

I'm sorry, I'm too sleepy to give you a real answer beyond thinking that it looks interesting. The good kind of interesting.

I have a question about this StarDust CYOA.

Scout drones have a free machine gun and a limit of T1 weapons. This implies their machine gun can be swapped out for a different weapon for a price.

If one were to do this on a large scale, would they use the base purchase price or the reduced price?
>>
>>52662158
I've always assumed that the 'buy it once, cheap forever' applied across ships.

FULCRUM
>>
>>52657853
The real issue is
1) there's about two authors
2) none of them are making a authorwaifu cyoa
You're gonna have to do it on your own cause no one else is

SDA's talking about how slow mana blaster projectiles are, and how shit that is at hitting moving targets. The range stat is clearly how reliable the weapon is depending on distance, likely diffusion for lasers and blasters, accurate rang/grouping for kinetic guns, how long the fuel lasts for missiles/torpedoes, and only denotes at what distance you could hit a stationary target and do damage to it. With the lowest projectile velocity of all weapons(tied with torpedoes) it likely can't hit a moving target unless you are up their asshole, and screaming their name.

I've checked the pastebin archives but I can't seem to find it.

One of those cases where the CYOA hasn't been finished (and quite possibly never will be).
>>
>>52663545
That's a shame.
I've always liked CYOAs where design your own childhood and family.

Wait - was that the part you were looking forward to? The "being a little kid again", and not the "being a Half-Dragon" part?
Because I've removed the "you were just born" part and instead you're 15. Being reborn as a baby adds all kinds of questions I don't want to answer, adds difficulties with companions and makes quests impossible.
If I were to add "you're reborn as a baby" as an option it would invalidate 2 full pages.
