I always feel bad with CYOAs that have mystery boxes. I picked the brown one and now I feel like cheating if I pick anything else...

I don't recall ever saying anything of the sort.

Understandable, but since SDA's so big on lore and storytelling, I was hoping for a more logical and less meta-balance reason.

That's fair. The further I get into making the MGSI, the more I realize that a few logical leaps will have to be made for balances sake.

>Dhyana should be a Federation ship
Oh, okay. Still not taking it, because holy fuck that's expensive, but I'm limiting myself to only Federation ships because story, and wondered why I didn't have the option of a dreadnought.

>>
>>52605569
I'd say a CYOA is a waifu CYOA when the waifus are its main focus, so I suppose you'd need to figure out something else to focus one so the waifus can be secondary (at most).
>>
>>52605569
It's not really a CYOA if you don't include an adventure, anon. Give me some story options and world building like hero's journey.

Writing completely done, 3/4th of the images found, editing would be a nightmare, don't have a ton of free time until end of exams mid-May. I'l probably end up abandoning it when I look at it again then and realize it was stupid to begin with.
>>
Re-asking since the thread seems more active now than when it was first asked.

What do you guys think of CYOAs that include elements that give you points of some variety, and then at the end show you a sliding scale of your outcome based on the points you accrued? For example: >>>/d/7349109
>>>/d/7349113
>>>/d/7349118
>>>/d/7349120
>>>/d/7349122

Do you think it limits replayability? Stifles build variety? Or does it encourage you to be more creative, taking options you might not otherwise have considered to make a new build that gets new endings?
>>
>>52605622
>Mystery box
Anon why? I can understand if you want a gay option, but why would you want it as a mystery?
>>
>>52605679
They're shit.
>>
>>52605679
>What do you guys think of CYOAs that include elements that give you points of some variety, and then at the end show you a sliding scale of your outcome based on the points you accrued?
Hate it. CYOAs should be stepping boards for the imagination, not say "haha you lose". It's also why LiminalPhrenic aka. "even if you choose not to play you still get assraped for eternity" is shit.
>Do you think it limits replayability?
Yes. Same thing with every CYOA that uses a mystery box-esque setup.
>Stifles build variety?
Yes. You want the ending that doesn't assrape you meaning you must pick certain options
>Or does it encourage you to be more creative,
No. See last point. You force me to make certain choices = I don't choose

tl;dr is shit
>>
>>52605679
I'm not a huge fan of random elements, and without them people can build towards things, , but I like the idea in theory.
>>
>>52605679
Bad, just like that CYOA is.
>>
>>52605567
Dhyana is the Fed dreadnought.

>>52605563
Ideally you would need a really, really good reason to own a dreadnought. There's probably less than a hundred in existence and that's still a generous amount in my opinion, given the size of the setting.

>>52605569
If you were to ask for me opinion, flesh out the setting more and do more world building. Lots of waifu CYOAs have an extreme lack of this.
>>
>>52605528
There will never be any progress because I never have any extended amount of time off to myself.
>>
>>52605528
I have a few ideas but I don't want to put in the effort because I'm shittypaintanon.
>>
>>52605795
>flesh out the setting more and do more world building.
Elaborato
>>
>>52605795
I would probably consider making a build in which I absconded with someone's dreadnought if weapons/armor still scaled in power with ship size. But since a dreadnought's guns aren't any stronger than a fighter's, I see absolutely no reason to spend that much on a hull.
>>
>>52605688
i wouldnt, thats why i insult people who want them

>>52605679
I think it's great if done properly and that cyoa has it on acceptable level. My first build had little choices because I didn't open the mystery page before doing it so I had no incentive to take more things up my butt. Making the next few builds was much more engaging (fun) so I guess it encouraged some replayablity. Had mixed feelings about rolling my fate but I guess I prefer that over being encouraged to min max my choices.

This method can also function as a nice "stat check" for retards who don't use common sense in their builds e.g. they expect savage orcs to be obedients fucktoys just because they bought them on a slave market and put a leather collar on their necks.
>>
>>52605679
I ignored that shitty cyoa's mystery box. I'm not letting that faggot decide what happens next.
>>
>>52605795

>>52605714
>>52605854
I definitely wouldn't include any sort of rolling mechanic; you're either capable of pulling it off based on the choices you made, or you're not.

I should also point out that, to the extent that I'm considering including it in MGSI, it's entirely optional, relating only to your attempt to actually be the "Hero" for either side, so if you just plan on living in the world as it is, you wouldn't need to bother with it. I just need some way of measuring whether or not the more adventurous types made the right picks to do the really over-the-top things.

>>
>>52605938

>>
>>52605934

>>
>>52605955

>>
>>52605955
I don't think it really matters to this discussion, the point is that it's not unheard of for militaries to use civilian created weapons. If you really want to know the minutia I'm sure you can find it in papers about the economics of war.
>>
>>52605822
Pretty much this >>52605934

Lots of waifu CYOAs don't have much of an establishment. You just get to pick a waifu with a brief description and live with some boons and banes, but there's usually no context. Oftentimes it's just "you're you in the modern world," and that doesn't encompass the fact that some people can't live in the real world with a huge titty monster who's yandere and ultimately reliant on you for living conditions.

Ranting aside, if you really wanna make something interesting, focus on the whole CYOA as opposed to having a waifu with a specific fetish to appeal to that one anon who begged you for the option in the thread.

>>52605825
Fighters can't equip Tachyons or larger, have maximum shield ratings, over 25 armour, house a decent amount of drones, sustain a prolonged siege and have much of a political impact either.

>>52605905
Triglav is a Fed military-sponsored r&d and manufacturing company, ala >>52605938

Though, Triglav originally had origins in civilian startups. Now they're pretty much the spearheading r&d company for the Fed military.
>>
>>52606040
Still, a zerg rush of fighters, while not as visually impressive as a dreadnought might be, could accomplish the same military objectives with a lower cost. I see why a government would have a couple dreadnoughts mixed in with its military, but they seem prohibitively expensive for the player.

They aren't effective on their own at all, of course. Cost-value doesn't favour them very much, but in an armada, they can do plenty.

Dreadnoughts are in the CYOA for the players as more of a political reason than anything else. As I've said before, you need a really, really good reason to own one.

>Yan Paul Sartre

>Turn myself into a yandere
>Turn this into a CYOA and not a RYOA

That "all yanderes are murderous" is a serious red flag that the author only knows of one kind but I will perservere!

>Age: Younger
It would make sense to be the same, sure, but I would like to experience Young Love, and as a cute female yandere. I understand why I'm fascinated with the First Love stereotype: It's pure, you have no one to compare with. You are each other's first everything. And he doesn't realize that my yan-love isn't """"normal""""
Also I totally want to experience being a pretty teenage girl. Call me an attention whore I don't mind.

>Skin: Light
>Eyes: Light brown
>Hair: Dark brown
Light brown eyes + dark brown eyes is just very attractive to me.

>Breasts: Average
Average is best. The breast size is the one where they fit fit comfortable in his hands.
>Ass: Aw shit
Ass and hips must be wide. Ass is love, ass is life.

>Background: Rich
Lets go with that one. I would love to be a rich pampered girl. It's also better than some of the other ones.
>Personality: Proper and courteous
Most of these are not fun, but this one is at least a little. Will be fun to pretend to be the "good daughter" in public and private, but be, well... not so good behind closed doors...
Lets hope my walls are sound-proof
>Intelligence/Athletics: Average intellect, very athletic
I don't want to undermine my future sempai by being impossibly smart. Being ahtletic is a must: You have to earn that ass, not be granted it with genetics!

>Interests: Art
Don't want eidetic memory.
>Height: A head shorter
The girl should be shorter, that's common knowledge
>Weight: Average
Average weight with that ass and dem hips? Yes please!
>Distinct feature: Magical
>Magical: Reality bender

This cyoa has a serious lack of clingyness and stalker/obsessiveness. It's my favorite part of beign yan.
>>
>>52606123
nobody stops you from doing that but don't expect people to save your cyoa or even remember its name if you limit yourself to writing down some popular archetypes and adding an option to customize your waifu's breasts size

Insanity: Adores looking at you way too much
Don't worry, I won't let it come to puttin you in a glass box.
Also with small parts of Relgiiosu, Fate, self-hatred because otherwise it wouldnt' really be me... and the husbando option, and the trust issues one but we can fix that one. Together.
>Tells: Hyperventilation + Biting her thumb. Also a small part of "coming on to you hard" because that's hot, and "takes photograph" because light stalker
>Weapons: Poisons
I'd rather drugs, but they aren't available

Really I rather not a weapon. I'm more of the self-hating kind of yandere: The kind that knows she isn't good enough nand doens't devserve her sempai. Hving a weapon, and even worse using it, goes totally agains't my natre

>pink box
Because obviously I'm into THAT. Why would I ever want to get a girlfriend when I can BE the girlffriend?

>Nana
Mostly because I'm an awful person and my personality has to be fixed before I could ever be considered even close to being near to waifu-tier. That last "downside" is a perfect upside for me.
Yukarioko would be fun to have as a dad/mom but meh. Tachi wouldn't be fun to be I already am a boy...

Sayaka has nice boobs but a waifu is more than her boobs.
>>
God dammit I missed most of the Stardust talk. Alright question time SDA.

SDA would you say a single destroyer build focusing on discovering Herald artifacts while taking the odd job or two be fine? Or would say that is something that you would want more or bigger ships for.

Do shields, weapons, and armor scale with ship class and if so how much?

Have you thought about giving difficulty ratings for titles

What's maintenance for ships like? Are bringing in your ship to port every few months high for cost maintenance?
>>
>>52606105
And I'm sitting here trying to work out a thematic Dhyana build, with the Prisoner title(and Demigod), and the idea being that some fragment of the Luos Syndicate stole the thing, and me(Fed spec ops), with the help of the Talons. This fragment likely being some part of their former military intelligence group or something because they knew where the thing was, and knew about Hailey, and Comet. They keep me around because I've got Mind Link and they kind of lack people that can pilot/captain a Dreadnought. It's kind of fun trying to figure out how to set up a Fed ship that may have had a pirate overall done on it. Like I can't decide if it should have Sophocles, which I think would be the appropriate AI for the Feds to have on the ship or for the Luos Syndicate to have replaced it with Lai'na. I'm also trying to decide if I should have a full load of weapons or if it should be a little low with some having either been destroyed or being replaced to fit more in more with what I would think a Luos ship would have. It's fun to figure out this build but I don't think I'll be done with it any time soon.

Mobile suits are different from power armour. More to come in the future.

>>52607025
That sounds doable. In fact, I'd want a ship no larger than a destroyer for that sort of job. Cruiser, maybe.

Shields and armour don't "scale" anymore because the 0-25 system was meant to reflect the old one but in number form. "Very low" to "very high" between 5 different classes means 25 "stats" total. This is just easier to represent in terms of relativity between ships.

On the other hand, weapons don't scale because I found it hard to represent. Instead, I wanted to emphasize that the heaviest class weapons can't be fit on destroyers or lower (minus destroyer spinal mounts). I wanted this to enforce that cruisers or larger were meant for fleet battles where firepower means everything.

No, I want players to determine how difficult the Titles are. I wanted flexibility in interpretations of their conditions; some might see Sleeper as a menace of unrelenting drones that's impossible to fend off, others will see it as a nuisance. I'm fine with either way as long as it's written well.

Maintenance is hard to gauge because it takes in a lot of factors; what your occupation is, who you're fighting and what technology they're using for example. All I have to say is that hull repair drones are only for patch-work temporary jobs and proper maintenance means porting. I would agree that every several months is a good idea, given the complexity of space ships in general. It'd be a good idea to give fighter ships another ship to dock for maintenance though.

>>52607053
This sounds like a very neat backdrop, actually. I would totally recommend Sophocles for even more shenanigans. I wouldn't really think Lai'na would work well on a dreadnought, but maybe you could have both and ship them together.

Joking aside, builds like these are ones I tend to give more leeway. I don't care if you break rules.

If I take "Advanced Combat Training" in the main CYOA, would it be reasonable to make a build in the "Soldier of the Stars" DLC to represent my custom skills?

Alright thanks.

By the way something I just thought but what is the average human lifespan in Stardust? Considering what the Advance Infirmary is apparently capable of doing I expect that it would be very long.
>>
>>52607384
If you mean you're making "you" in both CYOAs, I would say that, chronologically, the Soldier DLC comes first, then Star Dust. Then Apocalypse.

>>52607450
I actually haven't decided on a solid answer for this. Certainly prolonged compared to what we have today but I would not say immortality even though we'd probably solve "old age" by this time.

Basically, if I were to spit out an answer right now, it'd be a guess. But if you really want solidarity, then I'll just say twice the lifespan of current human beings.
>>
>>52607572

Oh?

One of the few to discover inter-dimensional travel before being inducted into the Traveler's, Naoya was almost instantly apprenticed to Marco Fulcanelli when he was brought to Ae. A brilliant programmer and expert spellcaster, he created a program that replicated the long and arduous process of 'demon summoning', including automatically forming contracts and storing the 'demons' as data. While they are called 'demons' in his realm, they seem to be mythical creatures and beings from common human mythologies drawn from the infinite multiverses. Other accomplishments include creating a program that relatively equalized the strength of two nearby forces (sadly this doesn't seem to work outside of his home dimension), and binding a demon capable of infinite knowledge storage with a supercomputer that could accurately predict the current location of all molecules to create a system for predicting the future. Named Laplace, this demon/computer hybrid is able to accurately predict all future actions of a closed system as long as it can identify all the molecules, and nothing external acts on it. In layman's terms, it can tell the future of any dimension it is programmed to bar inter-dimensional incidents. Naturally, the Augurs are fairly upset about losing their monopoly on future-sight.
>>
>>52608475

He spends most of his time in Technical, working of the software side as well as helping to reprogram potential AIs or shackled AIs, so they can be truly free. He also works on both Terra D921 to help those he can, using his demons as a 'modified human wetwork' team, and spends time on D731 prepping the software and the people inside of it for transfer, while working on the new system to ensure it lasts a long time with minimal bugs. Oddly enough, he's a devout member of the Post, Trans, Ex & Meta Human Order, bringing unique insights into what it is like to be abandoned by humanity, and working to help many of the members discover a new identity for themselves. After an attempt to start a war against heaven before the Traveler's decided on official policy, he is no longer allowed on Terra-D2342.

If you're gonna change/update this at all, can I suggest maybe changing vial to some kind of "You can never fall ill or get hurt" type of object, and have immortality inherent with the patron's favor?

Not gud I'm afraid.

>War of the gods using mortals in a fucked up tournament across realities and civs. Evil gods mostly winning out of bending rules a lot and cheating a little. Good gods mostly fucked up or eaten. Pick a tier of power, from that tier pick a class. Better tiers get chuckload of power and options, but have harsher conditions to win, lower tiers have more limited powers, less options, less potential, or penalties, but have easier objectives.

>Every objective is "harder" than you (and doesn't require to survive in most cases, just complete them). You'll need strats to win even without opposition, asshole NPCs confirmed but not fleshed out. Win your objective, get also a higher reward than the one you could get -in a normal setting-.
>Just because you have a lower tier doesn't mean that you can't fuck up with more powerful tiers with some creativity, even intra tiers there is some rock paper scissors dynamic that you can overcome by using diplomacy, asshatery or again, more strats. Certain classes also excel at certain points in the game, from immediate spawn to last stage.
>Potential to go beyond your objective (and get better rewards), or abandon game at certain levels of power with some classes. Depending on popular strats, expansions and DLC should change the setting. Popular vote and support also decide which side "wins", if anything, since it's left open.

>For the same reason won't post it on pastebin as is. Willing to share some ideas from it here, but would like to make it smaller and leave it kind of open for anon's input.
>No images, would have to craft them from scratch, as many examples that correspond exist, but not that many from uniform styles. Would probably have to go -kingdom rush- chuncky cute smol styles for characters, maybe.
>Current guidelines for CYOAs aren't exactly to my liking and I don't know which format to use. Because I don't want the project to die completely I'm currently searching formats for this shiiet, both from older CYOA, current CYOA and other sources (like engineering manuals, videogame mags etc). Some progress has been made but was mostly lost in previous HD disaster. Could still rescue the text from backups at least.

What's/who's the Dragonslayer/

Also, seconding what >>52609648

>>
>>52609904
The Dragonslayer is the main character's big fuckoff "sword that is more like a slab of iron".
>>
>>52609904
Dragonslayer is a huge sword wielded by Guts, the main protagonist of Berserk. The sword was originally made by this Hermit/Blacksmith guy to slay a dragon, but it was so huge and too heavy for any of the king's knights to wield, that he was laughed away for making it.

Really, its can barely be classified as a sword. Its too long, to heave, too wide, and too thick to be a sword, more of a huge slab of metal really. Yet Guts is able to wield it with frightening efficiency. When in motion, it creates enough force to easily cleave through all but the thickest of demonic hides.

Further, due to having been bathed in the bkood of slain demons constantly, the weapon itself also exists on the astral plane, allowing the wielder to use it to damage astral entities, like Gods and Immaterial Spirits/Demon.

Basically, its a weapon of such length, girth, and weight that it would give Cloud Strife penis envy

CYOA mechanics. Drones were meant to just be a weapon strapped to wings and given a computer to think, which was originally how they worked. SD 2.0 introduced actual drones to strap weapons to, so it kind of just followed that mechanic.

Lore wise, blame it on the weird merchants at Stardust Space Station.

>>52609820
Most electrical subsystems are down while cloak is active, so ideally the only thing you can do is navigate. You are silent on comms, e-war and drone control.

It's true he names very few. The Dark City, Heavy Metal, Avatar, the Islanders and the Train Stop are the only ones of his in my collection that have titles. The rest I only know because of the file names he posted them under originally like the Old One's Gifts, the Dreamer's Gifts, Sanctuary 19 and Beyond Sanctuary. If I hadn't seen him post those originally, I'd never know what to call them and it does make it harder to talk about them because even if I know I bet most people don't.

Ivi would be lying if she said she knew what she was doing after falling from the sky but lying long enough to get in and out of places she doesn’t belong is what she excels at and Ivi revels in it. Having lied convincingly enough to enrol in Atlas, Ivi has half convinced herself that she is indeed a ninja in training sent here to sharpen her skills to kill a rare Grimm and has modified her uniform accordingly.

Never shuts up about how “cool” she is or of the terrifying might of her fabricated Grimm, it seems to grow more powerful after every retelling.

I put together a fairly strong mining crew. We go around excavating anything that seems profitable. Upon entering a new system, we send out all the Scouting and Science drones, then as our slow ship goes past them we collect them and the data on the mineral compositions of the planets, at least on the surface. We then use the composition scanner on the flagship to see if there are significant concentrations of high-grade ore. The mining drones are sent out en masse to collect low-grade ore, while the flagship collects the high-grade stuff itself. The huge amount of Production Managers is to ensure our facilities are always running at peak efficiency, and we have two chefs because we have nearly 3,000 people aboard and tastes will differ. I'm a polite person by nature, so something like the AI developing a personality won't be such a huge hindrance. Just be nice and thing should be alright.

All the contracts should help us get off the ground, and all are easy to do with my ship's loadout. Crew is obviously, lots of workers as well as some security and medics.

For a while I was planning a Castlevania CYOA while I replayed the DS games, but progress is slow and I may not ever actually finish it. The basic idea is that you're a vampire hunter from either a normal, Belmont, dark lord, or dhampir bloodline and you make a build based on weapons, power-ups, and abilities from the various games. I'm also trying to work out a "fate" system that would basically help determine your "ending", and the fate points would be altered by your bloodline/weapon/ability choices and the trials you choose for your adventure (things like inverted castle, false lord of the castle, etc, and you're forced to pick three). Still have to flesh things out though, try and think of a few more abilities, and get past the writing and planning stage though.

You have to find that niche spot between "important enough that your death will have an emotional impact" and "minor character who can be killed out without repercussion."
>>
So SDA how much attention would you get for flying a Herald ship?
>>
>>52611268
A lot, but somewhat depends on the size.

Scabs are generally the only ones that are widely available, but even then, someone who spots you in one will likely want to know a little more about you. Anything larger than that is pretty risky. Cruiser and larger pretty much means everyone knows you exist, and Battleship and larger need a really good reason for you to own one. At that point, everyone's keeping a close eye on you. There's only 2 known Motherships in the setting, barring the one you can buy.

Smaller ships are somewhat under the radar but they turn heads nonetheless. Just imagine having been flying your shoddy Hammerhead frigate for years, struggling to get by and then next thing you know, some guy undocks the station with a Herald frigate. At the very least, you'd be interested in wanting to understand why he has a shiny ship and you don't.

You know SDA I officially think you are annoying now. I know that does not mean anything to you but I had to say it.

First off you constant name faggotry with the anime pics and arrogant comments are a sad constant in these threads, and having watched it and your comments on battlemage 2 I don't think it is an act. You really do have a bit of a superiority complex.

But what really got me to comment is that you are similar to the worst kind of GM who alienates their players because you don't like what they do in YOUR worlds. I understand wanting to improve balance overtime and frankly I don't really care about the exact mechanics of StarDust or anything else, but the explicit reasons you have been giving are infuriating. Having seen almost every update of Stardust I can say that you target certain builds for nerfing, and having seen these builds most were not truly OP, rather they went against YOUR idea of the setting (your idea of the setting is like stale bread I might add). All these builds really did was portray was the desire to be the semi-badass CAPTAIN of a starship, capable of forging their own destiny. I am sorry more did not want to be Admirals or even Commodores and some even had the audacity to be factionless, but honestly I would rather play Solar Inheritance for a Fleet, StarDust was the one you went to if you wanted to be the captain like Captain Kirk or Picard, or even Jack Sparrow (and his OP ship the Black Pearl).

At the same time you adopted Highlanders most annoying trait of trying to extort writteups from your player base, however unlike Highlander you hate even a hint of mary sue in a character (remember we are talking about cYoas), your cyoas are more mechanical and less open ended meaning decent writeups are harder to do, and you really only want characters that fit your ideas for the setting (going so far as to crown a REALLY stupid build the best in BM).

TL:DR
You are Will Ferrell in the LEGO movie

Faux was born on Faraday – which means he was born into a world downright determined to get him killed. By the time he could walk, he had to run from mutant monstrosities that had broken through the lines. By the time he could talk, he was reporting sightings of kill-droids on patrol. This upbringing and daily exposure to the cocktail of chemicals that is Faraday’s environment have conspired to make him almost hilariously hard to kill. Years of patching bites and lacerations made him a competent field medic, while a lifetime of operating vehicles and weapons ensure that he can make anything work (and keep it working). He habitually carries an arsenal that could be conservatively considered “worrying”, and is accustomed to turning anywhere he sleeps into an improvised minefield. After finding Nettie while on a patrol, he’s taken to bringing her up as is proper for a young Faradian lady – that is to say, with an appropriate appreciation for superior firepower. Of course, he has made trips to more habitable worlds, which has given him some experience in handling the DMZ known to the rest of the galaxy as civilized society. The fact that he handles it poorly is entirely beside the point.

What classification would ships like the Milano, the Bebop, or Serenity have? Frigate, right? Why would anyone take The Space Cowboy? Seems like with a big enough bounty on your head, trying to do anything but run away would be fucking suicidal unless you're running around in a battleship or two - SOMEONE out there certainly has one, and wants the money. I mean, being an outlaw a la Firefly or first-movie Han Solo is survivable; this doesn't seem like it is. Everyone loves money, after all, and anyone you work for - especially if it's unofficial - will be sorely tempted to turn you in rather than pay you.

It is a really dumb drawback. Even with a faction you are just screwed, and forgot being able to fight those sent after you they will just have the right type of ship/squad to deal with you. I might be doable with a stealth ship but even then it is really hard.

Honestly all three would probably be in a class between fighter and frigate. Fighters are just single cockpits (maybe with a co pilot) but frigates are too big for any of those.

I contemplated on having a corvette class for this but I suppose you'll have to settle for a small frigate.

>>52611743
Oh yeah, I forgot Beatrice does drones.

I think most exploration builds don't really need hull discounts for Beatrice or Pulsar, since they likely aren't stocking up on an arsenal of weapons.

>>52611776
Most of it's in my noggin, I've abandoned the word doc I use. The setting's just everywhere as it is.

I've tried to consolidate at least the faction histories in page 5, but I think you'll be able to pick up more details in the quest I wrote. I'm also not done with the setting, so perhaps you'll find out more in the future. Otherwise, you're free to ask for my input any time.

Also going to be doing some stuff that happened in the past.

>>52611839
I never really put much thought into the title other than that people could write their own reasons to why it happens. On review, I kind of agree that it's a bit much.

I intended for it to be something more akin to Firefly. I think I'll rewrite it a bit to emphasize that the bounty is somewhat unjustified and that there's still a good amount of entities out there who'll do you good.

>>52611922
I think with the right faction you'd be on good terms. As I've said above, I didn't intend for it to be that crazy.

For example, the Blackhawks would probably pledge to keep you safe if you have good standings with them. Depends on the friends you make.

I really wish I could take 3 titles so I could pick The Space Cowboy, The Whisperer, and The Demigod. You are the most Australian Canadian on the planet.

…And The Scientist is the most Canadian Australian on the planet.

Odd.

Long-lost twins? Swapped at birth? Hmmm.
>>
Can't decide whether to take the PI Vd3 or the X33 Tribe. Since the PI is built for deep space exploration it would make more sense for my build based around searching for Herald artifacts. On the other hand the X33 Tribe looks cooler and is better built for combat. I'm almost tempted to say no to both and take Carapace instead for that sweet bonus to the Mana Core.

>>52612301
By the way SDA if I wanted to give someone I built with Star Soldier training in how to fly a fighter how much would that cost?
>>
>>52612301
Oh good, now it's not a death sentence. Still worded a bit awkwardly, though. How's this sound:
>Someone at least somewhat important really doesn't like you, and they've made that knowledge public. Anyone who wants to get in good with them or already has a grudge against you will be coming after you, armed with the knowledge there's a fat bonus waiting for them should they succeed.

>>52612330
Don't be ridiculous. Their gender is Herald Mothership, and you should check your human-technology privilege.
>>
So for the Tier 4 reward for Mining King Steve do we keep the upgrades? The wording of it implies we don't.
>>
>>52612412
For destroyers, I'm a fan of the Tribe. It's just a good, all around ship that can do pretty much anything without the whole "mighty fine ship you've got there, I'll take it" problem that herald ships have.
>>
>>52612238
She's just a lonely, crazy girl.
>>
>>52612129
>I think most exploration builds don't really need hull discounts for Beatrice or Pulsar, since they likely aren't stocking up on an arsenal of weapons.

The PI Vc9 has 24 weapon slots, even just filling them all with Machine Guns is 25mil. All the rooms a proper exploration vessel needs is like 50mil, plus hull mods so your exploration vessel doesn't take ages to reach places. Then there is crew.

Normally this isn't a huge thing, but a lot of the missions kind of get in the way of going on deep space exploration, so doing them makes no sense. As well as many of the Titles, going exploring can be seen as ignoring the drawbacks from them. Though this does give me a few ideas, hmm. I'll see if I can cobble together a working build for an exploration vessel.
>>
>>52612382
Says in the description; one's owned by the Feds and one's -rumored- to be owned by Pulsar. As for any others, their owners are either really good at hiding an 8.6km ship or they haven't been discovered yet.

>>52612412
For spelunking, I would stick with the PI Vd3 as it has a larger hangar, meaning more things can be done. You can spelunk with the Carapace effectively but you're likely to attract more unwanted attention with it. If you go with the latter, you'll need good escape mechanisms or good support vessels alongside the Carapace.

I would go with 2m per skill, as that's what it costs in Star Dust.

>>52612444
Really like that description more, actually. Thanks, I'll write something closer to it.

>>52612452
You do. Reading it now, I realized I fucked up the wording. I'll fix that.

>>52612455
Tribe is good but that's true. I would usually stick the Tribe as a more combat-oriented vessel.

>>52612479
I want to give explorers a bit more leeway, so I'll see what can be done with those vessels. Though, I don't think a mere 4m off of the hulls would really improve much. Perhaps I'll cheapen the exploration-centered rooms.
>>
>>52610236
Do you have to buy each lense individually? Like if I had 10 mining drones and wanted them all to have Mark 2 Lenses, would that take 20mil?
>>
>>52612514
Oh, whoops.

Hmm.

On a scale of the Empire from Star Wars just prior to the events of Rogue One, to the United Federation of Planets just after the Borg Wars, how strong is the Federation?
>>
>>52612539
You'll have to buy lenses individually.

>>52612548
Compared to other settings, Star Dust is rather small scale. What you see on the map is what the "civilized" galaxy looks like, and that's just a few dozen systems colonized at most.

Currently, they only have several dozen dreadnoughts in commission (no more than 60, likely less after the Luos war).

Their most populous planet, New Terra (of the New Terra system, I know), most likely doesn't exceed 50 billion people.
>>
>>52612598
So while there's no risk of them being toppled or destroyed by the various other factions, those factions could, if they wanted to, probably make it literally impossible for the Federation to attack a particular person who wasn't in Federation territory?

Remember that the Blackhawks are also a huge menace that, while operates independently, collaborates with them closely. In comparison they're likely only 30% as powerful.

On their own, yeah, they could be matched in a projected assault. Not to mention that most opposing entities are likely more to resort to guerilla tactics, so the Federation is generally afraid to prolong an engagement outside of their safe space.
>>
>>52612633
Fufufufufufufufufu.

I must go. My builds need me.
>>
>>52612633
How well does the federation patrol its own territory? For example, if I were to take the Sleeper or the Space Cowboy and I was aligned with the federation, how safe would I be while inside federation controlled space?
>>
>>52612514
I'm trying to make a deep space exploration build, my current funds are 364/390mil, and I just finished decking it out with weapons. Though that is partially because I took a few thematic choices. I suppose I'll have to run a few missions before I set off on my journey.
>>
>>52612514
Is there a minimum crew size for Frigates? As in, let's say a group of 12 people on a Venture somehow found an abandoned Rhino or S47 or something; could they split up and pilot both of them?
>>
>>52612633
Is it still true that if you have the relevant skills, you don't need to hire a crew member for that slot? Say, if I have Ship Gunnery, I don't need to hire a Gunner?
>>
>>52612619
This is the end, my only friend, the end.
>>
You know there really needs to be another energy system for fighters. Two days really isn't enough time for for scouting but the only other option of 50m for 12 years isn't really practical.
>>
>>52612690
Depends on how close you are to important trade hubs or the capital. Close to them and you'll probably be in relatively safe hands, but you'll find action outside of a single jump from heavily patrolled areas.

There are regular patrols all around Fed space, but a good bounty hunter likely would wait for an opportunity. The space police still takes time to get to you if you manage to sound out an SOS, and in that time, you'd better hope they have something left to save.

>>52612725
I'm reducing prices on the Laboratory, Terraforming Bay and likely a little on Scientist crew members.

>>52612745
I remember specifying that only destroyers and larger need to be 50% filled because you could theoretically pilot a frigate alone, ala >>52611742

>>52612773
Yes, but "you" can only occupy one profession outside of piloting. I swear I specified that somewhere on the CYOA, but I'm not seeing it.

Ideally you can only occupy jobs that you can multitask with, though I wouldn't be opposed if you were to get someone else to pilot the ship and you could take on a different job.

>>52612790
The idea is that fighters need to be docked frequently, Having a bigger vessel to dock your fighter is a good idea to recharge those cells.

That said, I don't know why I specifically settled for 2 days. I wouldn't be opposed of going up to 8 days on a full charge.
>>
>>52612619
If we're going to be killing people anyway, might as well do some good with it. Grand Magus, but only use super-scumbags as batteries.
>>
>>52612814
Would those rules sync with the rules for "Controllers" under crew archetypes, that say they can count as x3 crew slots? If I have Mind-Link, can I act as Pilot, Gunner, and E-War Director simultaneously, since I'm plugged directly into the ship and not occupying a station on the bridge?
>>
>>52612781
So, you choose The End?
>>
>>52612831
And how would you combat the other problems mentioned in that option; specifically, those who will get a copy of your power?
>>
>>52612814
>That said, I don't know why I specifically settled for 2 days. I wouldn't be opposed of going up to 8 days on a full charge.
8 days sounds much better.
>>
>>52612880
Are disciples mandatory? I thought we could give them equivalent powers if they wanted it, but we didn't necessarily have to agree.
>>
>>52612910
Crap. I might have forgotten to put in that detail. Nevermind then.
>>
>>52612843
I wouldn't be opposed to that. I swear I wrote this rule somewhere on the CYOA about this.

I'll have to put these rules somewhere.
>>
>>52612947
I seem to remember those rules existing in an earlier update; I had an old mind-link build drawn up based on them. They must have gotten lost in the shuffle of updating. You're not crazy.

Or at least, this isn't evidence of you being crazy.
>>
>>52612931
Yeah, if a bunch of other people get the same power that complicates things a lot, especially if they themselves can (or must) go on to create more disciples. What happens if there isn't enough life force to go around keeping up everyone's immortality?
>>
>>52612947
Also, can a ship be controlled from the "Safe Room", if purchased? Does the answer change if the pilot has Mind-Link?
>>
>>52609330
The Voracious gives you a demiplane. It's not entirely clear what kind of power you get there, but after you are finished fucking humanity you can retire to a better place.
>>
>>52613005
>especially if they themselves can (or must) go on to create more disciples.
When the cyoa said they gain all of your powers, I meant all of them. Including the blessing of others.

>What happens if there isn't enough life force to go around keeping up everyone's immortality?
Much like with the other options, the world grows miserable and dead if care is not taken. A few might start killing each other not to harvest mana, but to reduce the drain and strain on the world. It doesn't matter, the Voice still gets what it wants and will likely get more of it later.
>>
>>52612971
I probably took them out for a reason but the reason eludes me. I'm adding it back in, I guess.

>>52613015
>Also, can a ship be controlled from the "Safe Room", if purchased?
I would assume the control room is secure enough as it is, but if you want to write purchasing a safe room as a means to upgrade it further, I'd be okay with that.
>>
>>52612619
I will take Mad Scientist. If I can control myself enough to not make a doomsday device it will give benefits to almost everyone.
>>
>>52613058
You also seem to have taken out giving Mana Blasters a bonus for being taken with Mana Cores/on a Heraldic ship. I seem to remember that being a thing, but there's nothing special about Mana Blasters as written in the latest version. Since there's still a synergy with Mana Cores/Heraldic Shields, I assume it wasn't an intentional nerf.
>>
>>52612843
The multitasking is the main point of them so I would think so.

I'm going to be a rebel and not pick the empty hand. I'll go Staff + Vial, the First. I'll be an immortal, reality warping necromancer.

I wouldn't need to be popular like the Heedless to rule the world, a legion of alien and/or dinosaur zombies I warped into existence would tear apart anything that would challenge my claim.

Constantly losing memories, as is the vial's drawback, would help stave off the insanity and boredom that being an immortal would eventually bring. I could reshape the world in the manner I see fit, forget it all, and then start over again. I'll never run out of things to do! and maybe I would forget about how lonely I am

And since I can never die and only become more powerful it's highly unlikely I'll ever be deposed as the Lich King of Earth, making it just as good as 'The Voracious' gift. I mean, I might as well be a god with this set up, no faggot mortal can take me down.
>>
>>52613140
Are you taking the Scout drones as free in this build? I know the Beatrice origins says 1m off of all drones and Scout drones originally cost 1m, but I'm thinking of specifying in the Beatrice origin that the discount can't lessen a drone's price beneath 1m now.

Again, to compensate, I'm reducing prices on exploration-based rooms and crew.
>>
>>52613236
Nah, I figured the Drones/Beatrice worked like Vehicles/Hammerhead. So I took 1mil off of everything that wasn't 1mil, except the upgraded Mining Drones.

It's a lot of stuff, but I did have around 600mil to work with.

Honestly you updating Stardust again gives me time to think about my build more. Still can't decide on which ship hull to take. Both the X33 Tribe and the PI Vd3 have good points. But I am tempted to pick the Acheri just so I can get something out of my Lous Syndicate Background.

Anyway are you updating Star Soldier anytime soon? I still need to finish those squads I'm creating.
>>
>>52613236
Oh something I just remembered to ask you. How do Syndicate names work?
>>
>>52612619
There's really only two obvious sustainable options for Grand Magus, depending on how it functions:

1. Gather existing disciples and weaken humanity, then rule over the remnants as unseen gods. Don't let them know you're human, instill paranoia and suspicion in the peasants and have them kill anyone using witchcraft.

2. Kill every human. Presumably you'd start auto draining animal life, and animals can't become disciples.

The Bloodthirsty Warrior is a bit weak unless you can summon power armor or something. High caliber bullets would take you down. And if you're in a developed country, the force used against you will keep escalating until the military is called. Personally I think a Berserk Armor type deal would work better, where your armor drives you to view everyone as a threat but you gain tremendous power. Think leaping in the air to slice a helicopter in half. When the armor's influence wears off (perhaps after you've killed a certain number of people), no one recognizes you as the Bloodthirsty Warrior. You're forced to hear about everything you did in the haze of frenzied killing. Do you weep, or laugh?

I'd take The Mad Scientist. Humanity's fucked, but at least I spend my eternity playing Matrix games or something.

1) anon becomes a self-aware video game pause and menu system and mantle that descends upon hosts like a mantle to empower them, but also has tools to [en/dis]courage behavior they like.

2) anon mixes and matches small powers and focuses to become empowered by their relationships (not persona-ish). like, one of the builds i'm keeping in mind is to [counter] the powers of those whom you [antagonize], so if you were dropped in DC and picked a fight with the Flash, you wouldn't have speed to match but a power that puts you on equal footing and uniquely suited to cancelling his advantages -- not knowing enough about the Flash, i dunno, you could levitate him so he can never actually have purchase to make use of his speed? fighting superman wouldn't get you a kryptonite attack, is what i mean, more like intangibility so his dominion over so many physical forces (raw strength, heat vision, ice breath) is inapplicable.

Nope, can't up the quality. This is the result of pee dee effs trying to contain images.

Usually .pdfs are for text documents. This .pdf is just a consolidation of the 5 .jpg images. They don't handle images well.

I could try to render it from the native .psd files though. I'll see what I can do, but no promises.

I tried that once, but the power sources/shields/weapons on the fighters don't get discounts. I had fighters down to only 3 mil per hull, but everything else made them prohibitively expensive still.

>>
>>52613689
He really wants you to be a slave to a faction.

I think corporate life has killed SDA's self determination. The idea of doing something for your own success is alien to him, the idea of working to prop someone else up so they get the victory and the wealth are what's most comfortable to him.
>>
>>52613689
A frigate can be stored for 8 hangar space; it wouldn't make sense to allow it to also contain 8 hangar space.

I don't even know where people get this from. Almost all my builds have used the fuck factions option and I don't think any of them were even very weak.

Also, ladders are meant to be climbed. Not sat at the bottom of bitching about how there's a wall in front of you.
>>
>>52613712
Honestly I just want to make a neat frigate that recruits the twin fangs, in previous versions it was doable because you could upgrade to 10 hanger space. This version has an 8 space cap on frigates which is just enough for two fighters but not enough for the needed repair drone.

I am just going to say I trashed the drone to let them on board.
>>
>>52613688
I'll have to read through it still but I did give a skim. I like the thought of someone getting fed up with the Feds and defecting--that's ultimately the root of all factions that have splintered from it, even the peaceful independent ones like Beatrice and Pulsar.

>>52613741
>Hull repair drone
Well now that's an oversight on my part, fuck. I didn't intend to lock frigates out of being able to complete the Twin Fangs contract.
>>
>>52613728
You need a single slot for the Hull Repair Drone, though I assume you could just eject it after.
>>
>>52613728
I don't even have photoshop, but now I'm curious to find out how easy a .psd is to parse in a text editor. I mean, if I'm trying to isolate strings, it should be easy enough -- or at least let me know if I need to go into hex mode.

Oh, thought; maybe make a Room you can buy that allows you to store another drone or two inside the ship, separate from hangar space. Maybe add that to Cargo bay.

>Hello, pessimism.
It's not pessimism. It's literally how it works. A government is run by elected officials or hereditary dictator. Not by some admiral. Corporations are run by a board of directors, with the head being the CEO. Boards of directors are initially made up of the people who own the company, or who ever is hired on from outside for their expertise. They then elect the CEO, again from an outside expert in running a corporation. Nobody in the company itself, office grunt or fleet admiral, is getting there.

>>
>>52613846
>So, why aren't you that expert?
Because you aren't an outsider. You're one of their grunts. They have no reason to hire you in an executive role, especially considering any large business will only hire from people who previously ran other large businesses.

>>52613848
Something that only lasts until the head military strongman solidifies his powerbase and functions as any other dictator.

Otherwise, you're suggesting we wank that we somehow magically overthrow a large government to rule. Seem more special snowflake to me than just being an effective freelancer.
>>
>>52613869
Then be a freelancer and get hired by a corporation? I don't understand, unless you're being some small mining company or exploration group, this is the logical thing to do. The Talons, Blackhawk, Luos, and Red Daggers are all groups who used to be smaller freelancers but grouped together to be more powerful. Why don't you and all the other people complaining about this sort of thing band together to become the leaders of a new faction like that?
>>
>>52613846
While on the topic of mining and exploring, how viable for survival is loading up a Voyage destroyer or Prospect cruiser with industry and comfort (and self-defence measures) when I only want to peacefully explore, mine, salvage and quest my way through the galaxy without any faction allegiance?
And is there an upper limit to questing? I have 300m available from the starting funds and questing alone without any titles or origin bonus.
>>
>>52613886
So don't be independent. Work for this governing entity, follow their orders, and give them the glory and recognition for your work. That's your suggestion.

>New faction
Lot more special snowflake to wank that you're charismatic and rich enough to create a powerful faction.

You even have tutorials in here!?

Depression CYOA hits a bit hard. I like to imagine the 'missing box' is that weird Depression-Enlightenment where you're so depressed you don't care about all the weird arguments you have with yourself to convince yourself to not try and stop being depressed and end up getting your shit together to stop being depressed. Like, you hit rock bottom, depression wise, and somehow, paradoxically, that lets you get your feet beneath you? So, like, the last box is missing not because the author/player is dead, but because they stopped being depressed?

I don't know, SDA, suicidal depression isn't fun, so even if you made suicide by overdose a punchline to a CYOA, I'm glad you also left it open ended enough that I could imagine a happy ending.

I don't get what the left and right hand are though.

...And holy shit, I need to go to fucking sleep if I'm writing all this.

I don't know what you mean by glory either. If you're some freelancer, it's not like you'll be getting any glory anyway. Because you're never really gonna be able to compete with the factions.

And if you're in a faction, you still get glory and accredition. More so in fact because they can do shit like give you medals or put your face in recruitment posters.

Then write it so that you aren't a grunt.

If nobody accepts the fact that your build is the admiral of the entire Federation Navy, then you probably didn't write it well. At this point, it isn't even my judgement you should be worried about.

>>52613893
It will boil down to your Titles, to be honest. As long as you're low-key and unassuming, I don't think anyone would really pry into your business so long as you keep friendly with people. Eventually, you're gonna have to interact with others, be it to trade things or to partake in contracts for extra cash.

You can quest as much as you can with the requirements you meet.

If she grows to like me, she might teach me more about magic after I master the cantrips. Eventually we'll probably get in a really bad situation, and Amaris will come save us. If we ever finish learning the first four circles of magic, she'll help us out with the remaining circles.

I don't know if I'll convert to Lunar Energy. Being powerful during a lunar eclipse sounds like a really bad thing. I don't really have any motivation but learning more magic. I have no plans for how I'll use it, mostly because I don't know much about the world. Being a traveling magic researcher that keeps to myself, and my one, eventually two, travel partners seems like a decent way to start out. Hopefully we can avoid the fanatical witch hunter types.

No titles yet and no titles planned, I still got 43m left to finish my build. Finishing Twin Fangs up to tier 3 makes me assume that I am not a "plunder on sight" for the Talons anymore while my peaceful questing overall (only fighting I do is in Rogue Drones and Heat tier 1) makes sure I do not make any enemies. I will probably have to be on the watch for Red Dagger and Luos, but I like to think that my ship is defensive enough to outgun any fighters or frigates I cannot outrun.
So yeah, just an explorer who uses his mining and production to keep himself supplied and make a small profit when returning to civilised space for repairs every few months.

Nah, nah, not suicidal. Used to be diagnosed with suicidal depression but I like to think that's behind me.

I TALK ABOUT MY EXPERIENCES WITH DEPRESSION OBJECTIVELY FOR A BIT, DISREGARD, BUT IT MIGHT BE INTERESTING FOR SOME OF YOU?
Small tangent, but suicidal depression isn't "Might as well kill myself" it's just "Depression + morbid fixations/unprompted and out of place about death and/or violence." (And depression isn't directly linked to suicide, except in entertainment.)

Depression:
"I shouldn't do anything, because I might fail, but if I don't try, I won't fail."

What you're actually thinking:
"If I try and succeed, then the time I've spent being depressed and talking myself out of action is time I could have spent trying and succeeding, which means that success would hurt me since it invalidates the arguments I've made to myself while I was depressed."
(This is where 'depressed enlightenment' kicks in, where you don't CARE anymore that it might hurt you to try, doing or not doing are now equally unmotivating, but doing something MIGHT change your situation, while doing nothing will definitely NOT change your situation.)

Suicidal Depression, as above but also:
"Going up stairs. And now I'm thinking of all the unlikely ways I could be fatally injured on them."
"Making dinner in the kitchen. And now I'm thinking of all the unlikely ways I could be fatally injured in here."
"Walking down the road. And now I'm..."

Depression is thoroughly WEIRD to look back on, because you realize how DUMB like 90% of what you were thinking of was, and how self sabotaging you were. It is cheesy as hell, but any healing has to come from within, because while you aren't good at rejecting advice, you are convinced that you have defeated any argument that you shouldn't be or should stop being depressed.

...Okay, bed, seriously.
>>
>>52614067
You make a solid point, but Anti-Matter cannons are not the way to go. You have to survive either five or two-and-a-half minutes before you can fire them, and if you're a dreadnought, people aren't going to step to you unless they've got something they think can match you. Eight spinal mana blasters are where it's at, for the Mothership.

So a very small spec ops frigate that can cloak, conduct E-war, and move very fast when it needs to. It also is very heavily armed and armored for its size with a multitude of lasers at its disposal, the rapid fire stacks well with the berserker option, and I improve it even more with my energy focus. Also with my speed, my command mod, and the range of the lasers I can stay out of range of all the weapons with good tracking while being a pain to hit with the other stuff. The AI Remington is temperamental but between me (a controller) two sapient AIs and others it should not be too bad. Long term I am likely to join the Talons, as I made friends with the Twin Fangs (who make me quite the little spitfire). As for me I am a bit of a recluse that spends all his time on his ship hooked up to computers, with three other controllers, two gynoids, a broken AI, a doctor, and two pilots. The engineering bay is only manned when I am not otherwise occupied but it is mostly cargo space anyway.

>At the same time you adopted Highlanders most annoying trait of trying to extort writteups from your player base
You don't know how mad that shit made me. Imagining her smug fucking face when she asked us to entertain her like the jesters she think we are, is infuriating.

The Acheron Tier 4

We successfully complete our contract, but, before getting out pay a wormhole opens sending us off in an unknown location in the great black. Even worse, trying to find our way back, we get even more lost and run into a huge ancient space station. We're surrounded, and we haven't even had a break in days.

If we survive, there's going to be a lot of exploration, research, adventure and high stakes combat on our way home!

Strap in crew, we're going in raw.

8.1m around. Let's say that extra training and gear takes from what I had left in my original posts >>52614726 which ended in roughly 431.5m plus whatever the mercs cost. Still well clear of 510m. We're good.

>The Nemesis
I may or may have not enraged a Red Dagger Pirate captain. I mean it's not my fault her ship malfunctioned upon the start of the race. And it's her that agreed before hand that there won't be a do over if anything goes wrong. Now she and her few minions are out on a warpath to kill me, I think. I didn't stick around to check.

>The Space Cowboy

I might have gotten the Federation to declare me a wanted criminal of the highest class and stick a bounty on my head and give the orders "capture wanted, prisoner need not be intact". Well you see in my line of work you tend to make enemies, it's part of the job. But I think this time it was my fault, after all the Client only wanted me to get his boarding party to the biggest Federation space station, not get his party in the space station as part of a cruiser sized boarding torpedo that ended up destabilizing the anti matter core and proceed to create a general panic, mass evacuation, detonation of the most expensive space bit of kit and making landing on the nearby planet impossible for a couple of years do to debris. Ops.

Now you may ask what is my job. Well it's not one job per say. One day I am a blockade runner, another an explorer another a merchant. It's as if the postal service was armed to the teeth and actually cared about getting there on time.

Can a fighter even carry the ammo? If I had a teleporter platform and a really good engineer, could I remotely reload the fighter's silo from my ship?
