Does orcpub not support warlock patron spells? trying to get dissonant whispers and Tasha's Hideous Laughter, but they aren't showing up in the list

How much AC should a Barbarian have at 1st level? Using standard array, 15 AC seems to be the best i can get without using a shield. This seems low, but i guess Barbarian has a shitton of hp and resistances.

Since only half my party can make it to the session this week, I'm going to run a one-off adventure wherein they play a group of bad guy mercenaries who pull a heist for the BBEG and then have to escape to a teleportation circle.these characters will later show up as antagonists in the main campaign.
They'll be playing 6th level characters, I was planning to give them a few magic items to spice things up, but even the "uncommon" items seem OP as fuck in many cases. Anyone have experience running a heist type adventure? And what magic items would you recommend for a barbarian, an oath breaker, a shadow monk, and an evil druid?
Also, if I have them get caught and thrown in prison once they reach the other side of the teleport, will that feel cheap to my players? I need to get these characters out of the way while the main party levels up a bit.
>>
>>51878353

One of my parties had to travel to the Feywild to exploit its time warping properties, so as to reach a somewhat distant city near-instantaneously. They redeemed a black unicorn, slaughtered some mind-controlled Eladrin, and slew a fey prince modeled after David Bowie. It was good times.

Shouldn't be too hard to get Scale armour and 14Dex, or if you're Human, Halfling, or Half-Elf, 16con, 16dex naked also gives you the 16AC.

Person with the DM who brought my kobold stats down to effectively 2d6 instead of 3d6 because "reasons" here.

DM just told me that faerie fire does not grant its advantage at night because it's "unflavorful"

I'm fuckin' done with this shit.
>>
Popular wisdom is greatsword + polearm master is the best, and I don't doubt that for a moment.

But what sort of at least so-so ways are there to make use of your reactions and bonus reactions if for whatever reason you don't go that route?

For example, berserker's bonus attack action.

>>

>Greatsword + Polearm master
Glaive, not GS, GS only works with GWM.
>>
>>51878577
You would think that.

But no, to him, in the dark, it only removes darkness disadvantage, but does not grant the advantage it should.
>>
What's a good way to roleplay/gameplay flavor a character who is losing their mind? I've got a great old one warlock and I'm trying to come up with ways where he can be approaching insanity but still playable.
>>
>>51878530
Talk like Jar-Jar binks, expressively, every encounter, insist that you're not done yet, and continue to talk over every NPC interaction he has or tries.

If he says "Oh, X attacks you and kills you." insist that you're not done, and keep talking over him.

If he finally says "Rocks fall your characters die." then take out your character sheet, Snipjaw the Second. After all, Kobolds are notoriously good at multiplying and breeding, it just makes sense and anything else would be unflavourful.
>>
>>51878587
On one hand, normally disadvantage and advantage cancel each other out.
On the other, you're a kobold and thus have darkvision, and can see in the fucking dark anyways.
On the other, the spell even illuminates things it hits so they couldn't even be obscured by the fucking dark unless it was magical darkness.
So, on both hands, a bird for that DM.

Rogues and Monks have fantastic bonus action abilities. Like cunning action maneuvering, or using mage hand or fast hands to drop caltrops, ball bearings, or alchemist fire.

Battlemasters also get riposte, using a reaction to make an attack against an enemy that misses them. If you multiclass into Rogue, you could even get 2 sneak attacks off in a round, since it's limited by turns not rounds.
>>
>>51878613
Yeah, the fact that it gives off dim light is clearly meant to remove the darkness disadvantage so the advantage piece can still land.

>>51878612
Just gonna go full on Rogue Legacy with this shit.
>>
>>51878530
Alternatively, improve your characters Int, Wis, Cha, and HP massively.

If he questions it, you're clearly a red-dragon in disguise polymorphed as a kobold, and it would be unflavourful to represent your stats as anything else.
>>
>>51878593
Spending your time sleeping during a rest zoned out with your eyes open and muttering can freak out anyone on watch.

Asking "Sorry what was your name again" to other PC's and sometimes calling them weird names.

Repeating things people say like your shocked before agreeing.

Weird little quirks with one or two big crazy things works best. Better if it kinda comes naturally though. Also check out some of the things Xzar from Baldur's Gate says, some are stupid but others are weirdly haunting.
>>
>>51878649
Rogue Legacy his shit in with the most annoying line up of kobold rogues ever seen. Try to rob and backstab and generally frustrate or annoy any and every npc you come across.

Currently, its an aberrant druid Xoriat Planar Shepherd/Abolisher... which is sort of the Far Realm equivalent of a border patrol guy of mexican descent. More generally, anything aberrationish.

There are currently zero interactions with the aberrant type in 5e, but at least anything Far Realmy, Limbo-ey, OR aberrationy is filed under the aberration type, so I'm hopeful.

Try to frantically explain to anyone who let's you talk long enough the profane revelations you've discovered while searching through the empty void between stars.
Haphazardly describe that there are animal-like aberrations that crawl and slither over every persons skin, or surface. They multiply their population through division, and spread disease and plague.

If they let you keep going on just make up wild shit "MAGIC THE COMES FROM THE WEAVE IS ALL A LIE. THE WEAVE RUNS THROUGH OUR MITOCHONDRIA. ALSO THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL. ALSO OUR CELLS ARE.." etc.

Starting a new game, Character is a Battlemaster Fighter with backgrounds infiltration skills designed for political assasination, joining a group of similarly skilled individuals.

Got a +2 weapon and an uncommon item of my choice.

Also have 5,000 gold to spend.

What the fuck do I spend it on? Are poisons worth getting, they are expensive and we have enough. Is it worth getting spell components to cover the cost of any healing or ressurection I might need? It seems smart for any savvy and resourceful fighter with access to powerful divine magic via contacts and allies to carry a couple large diamonds close to their heart.

What uncommon items are juicy and exciting to have for a fighter?
>>
>>51878582
I had an idea for a half-drow paladin called the Mongrel who acts tough when she first meets the party but is secretly a huge dork raised with her blood twin sister by a couple who found them on their doorstep.
She has an adoptive brother who's a few years younger than her, and constantly sends extra money to those that raised her. She barely managed to cut it into the paladins before getting ridiculously swole during her training due to her weird genetics.
She's a little embarrassed at how huge she is, and gets pissed if people get surprised that she's a woman, because she's heard it so often.
>>
>>51879018
Does she have a The Odd Couple vibe with an Oathbreaker?
>>
>>51879049
Her father is one, so kind of.
>>
Our groups ranger has been using nets for a while, and wants to craft an upgraded version, heavy barbed adamantine link nets, for a more durable and possibly harmful entrapment.

Inflicts 1d4+Dex percing damage on hit, DC14 to escape, AC23 and 18HP to destroy. Snared creatures take 1d4 damage each time they attempt any action.

How much do you think this item would be valued? 250gp? 500gp? 1,000gp? More?

Character wants at least a pair, and I think he is likely to try and pair heat-metal onto them for additional effect. Ultimately though it seems sub-par compared to say, shooting repeatedly and taking attacks, but he seems to be having fun.
>>
>>51879065
Is the adoptive father the oathbreaker, or is the oathbreaker her deadbeat biological father?
>>
>>51878582
A peasant who had the role of a "chosen hero" pushed onto him by a Hexblade patron and the surrounding villagers.

Always pick the quirky invocations and spells to use them in a quirky manner.
>>
>>51879084
Biological. He wasn't intentionally a deadbeat- the man was originally a Fighter who swore to fight against the forces of Chaos. After being betrayed, he swore an Oath of Conquest to a god of war in exchange for saving his life from a party member who had unintentionally betrayed him (unintentionally because the traitor, a warlock, didn't recognize him when she offered his life in exchange for her sister). He's sort of somewhere between Oathbreaker (because he had sworn to fight for justice) and Conquest.
He got brought back and then died, his wife, the mother of Mongrel, died soon after. The twins wound up with complete strangers to hide their heritage, among other things.
>>
>>51878582
I know it's not an official player race, but a Dryad seems like it could make for a fun PC. Run as a druid or ranger, obviously.

Is there any way to easily look at the older edition's fluff for monsters & races other than reading their description in the books? Like some sort of wiki or something. I want some inspiration on how to alter some things I'm not fond of in this edition (Gnolls, gnomes, demiliches, slaads) and I don't want to have to go through a bunch of old books.
>>
>>51879162
>Offers his service in exchange for having his life saved from someone else who was trying to sacrifice him to save someone else.
uh
>>
>>51878901
Pure Hunter might work, truth is even Hunter is relatively front loaded. At most there's really nothing compelling past level 11, even your spells at 4-5 are kinda shit, and a lot of the supposedly great archery boosting spells you can use are going to be stepping on Hunter's Mark's toes.
>>
I'm finishing up my group with the Starter set, and I'm trying to come up with campaign ideas
As of now: players are summoned to a foreign court to find 7 pieces of a great hero's armor in order to fight back against an encroaching evil force that is threatening to take over (their) known world.

Having them go thru 7 trials/areas seems too simple, any ideas?
Or is this an OK skeleton?
>>
>>51879199
He didn't know it at the time, and after he found out the truth, he rationalized it as a matter of principle- he didn't care so much that it was him that was up to be sacrificed, but that 1) she didn't even check and 2) she had in the past used her bad fortune to draw sympathy from the rest of the party, declaring she wouldn't engage in evil .
He was just self-centered and naive enough for the god of war to play him along as undertaking the war for a noble cause despite being a devil. Something along the lines of "The nation you're conquering is ruled by douchebags, so you're really aiding the just revolution. Plus, if you don't do it, I'll find a much worse person to do it instead."
The guy wasn't the best judge of character.
>>
>>51879221
Shit. Forgot to mention "plot"
The king's councilor has been fuckin evil the whole time, wants to summon this hero of oldé to take kingship/rule the land.
The evil from outside is all a ruse!

Very cliché but I'm OK with it
>>
The seven pieces of armour are far too large to be a fit for anyone, but are actually parts of an adamantine golem.

After they get three pieces, they find that instead of the 4th piece, they find that a rival has also been claiming the armour for his own goals, leading to conflict on both sides trying to both fight each other for their pieces, and contest each other for the final piece.

Bonus points, later into it, imply that activating the golem is a heavy cost and that even though they are almost finished, they should consider trying to find other methods to protect the realm.

I'm thinking like FMA style ritual sacrifice of an entire town/city of innocents to power it, an event that the players discover that errands they have completed have already set in motion. Aka, help rescue the hostages from X bandit camp and escort them to Y village. Set up these magical sentinel stones at these points in Y village.

Hey /5eg/ , let me preface this by saying I know it's stupid and not RAI.

But if you pull off an attack with a shitty enough modifier, by RAW is it possible to deal negative damage?

For example if a character with a STR score of 7(-2 modifier) made an unarmed attack and by some miracle it hit, would it restore one HP to the target?

It's just been bugging me.

Consider asking one of the players to be DM assistant, 7 players is a lot to juggle, but 3 players each isn't.

Gives you someone to roleplay off of in NPC vs NPC encounters, somone who is a splash more "middle ground" between you and the players, gives you somone to bounce ideas off of, or chase rulings, or simply help people through turns as you handle others.

Other than that, good luck, and always feel free to add extra monsters to a combat if the players begin to stomp it.

So a Hexblade needs Str if they are to use the Cursebringer

A Fiendlock needs Str for it's Mace of Dispater

A Hexblade not using Cursebringer loses its smites but gains use of CHA to hit/dmg

So what's the point of even having that level 1 ability for CHA? It'd be useful for levels without invocations but obsolete as soon as you get Cursebringer

And if I'm reading correctly, a Hexblade spamming Eldrich Blast is STILL better than a Hexbladelock? Especially with +prof to damage

Hexblade just seems like a slight bit of a hot mess.

No, see, there are default assumptions that can be made about your standard common and uncommon fantasy races that are in the PHB, and the monstrous races in Volo's have that question asked and answered in that very book.

Meanwhile, undead are by default assumed to be inherently evil, destructive, and unlikely to cooperate with a party of adventurers outside of direct servitude to a Necromancer, Death Cleric or Oathbreaker.
>>
>>51879627
What about undead created through curses or magical accidents?
>>
>>51879642
Why would those be any less inherently evil and prone to destructive acts than other undead?

Village has "legendary magic weapon of X hero" stuck in a stone.
Everyone tries to pull it out to become the new hero till it became a tourist attraction.

Some peasant who recently awoke his sorcerer origin (used it mostly for agriculture) uses earth magic to dislodge the weapon and pulls it out easily.

The village loosing the revenue from the idiots coming to pull it out chase him away with pitchforks and blazing torches.

Fair enough.

Consider this as something I've done, dish out control of a few of the mookier or more beastial enemies to players.

Got a combat with 6 goblins, 2 orcs, an orc priest and a ogre?

Let one player control 3 of the goblins and another control the ogre. Reward them for playing the monsters smart, ruthless or how they should be played. Watch the conflcit in their eyes as they consider smashing their own character with an ogre club, or trying to justify why the ogre just stumbled over to fight someone else.

Obviously they aren't allowed to turn on their "Allies" but it's nice to see what players do in control of some of the monsters.

Is there an optional rule for using DEX to determine a tie initiative on the DMG?

Can I assume that any DM that do it this way is a 3.pf faggot ,who never actually read 5e PHB?
>>
>>51879811
Mind if ask what you mean specifically by "aesthetic". It's not that your wrong in saying it, but considering the breadth of existing undead, it really doesn't mean much by itself.

As for the rest
>elf from a community of humans quite literally can be centuries older than anyone else in the area

As for the last bit, i would argue that's what backgrounds and RP is for. The old grizzled veteran human fighter is a staple of D&D, and 5e supports it harder than ever before thanks to the Soldier or Town Guard backgrounds
>>
>>51879924
And of course, the Warforged +1AC for 25.

At level 1 you're looking down the barrel of 20AC, 22 with Shield of Faith and +5 from Shield.

Grab adamantine armour if and when possible since things will hit you mostly only on crits.

Bonus points, you can use your channel divinity to offer 100gp of artwork, coin, or other valuables for a metal object worth equal value.

Such as a 100gp ingot of Adamantine, you need 500gp of Adamantine and 750gp of Steel and other goods to craft your own adamantine fullplate using tools but it will take nearly two months of downtime and access to a forge.

GM might however claim that you need a specialist forge to work adamantine, even with your divine blessings of forgework.
>>
>>51879945
It's not a terrible way to handle it, although i would heavily favor
>higher initiative modifier
since that is more encompassing and less biased.
>>
>>51879945
Personally, I have the one with the higher modifier always lose a tie.
>>
>>51879945
DMG says that ties against other players, players just decide who goes first.

Ties between players and monsters, GM decides who goes first.

Rolling for tiebreakers is entirely optional.
>>
>>51879627
The default is definitely that a vampire can continue adventuring with the party.
>>
>>51879945
RAW: DM decides between tied NPCs and PCs tied with NPCs, and players decide ties between PCs.

Honestly it's easier just to use dex score to determine who goes first, then an opposed d20 roll if it's still the same.

No, it isn't, other than the special Zendikar vampires that aren't actually "undead" in the D&D sense.
>Whether or not a vampire retains any memories from its former life, its emotional attachments wither as once-pure feelings become twisted by undeath.
>>51879987
See, you can tell you've never actually played 5e for any decent length of time. Not only are tied initiative a rarity, the reason i said initiative mod is superior is so that things like Alert apply.
I also never said it was the best, just that it certainly functions for simplicity.
>>
>>51879947
While I agree that an elf in a human community could play that role, elves generally seem to adapt better to changing times, being naturally immortal, while human beings don't adjust as well. Regarding aesthetics and the old grizzled veteran, I like undead because they embody that aspect. They are quite literally a rotten husk of what they once were, and with each passing day less and less of what they were remains. It's similar in theme almost to the middle aged action star who's putting on weight in his age, except I don't have to play a fat guy.
>>
>>51880019
I mean, strictly speaking, the common undead in D&D don't fit the theme at all. Few actually retain any meaningful part of their identity, and even those that do are altered. Even the revenent is a shell of its former self, striving towards a single goal at all costs.
>>

Also I think you are the one without enough game experience. Initiative tie isn't uncommon when you play 2-3 times a week with at least 4-5 combat per session like how 5e was suppose to play. Just do to the sheer number of rolls between players and monsters.
>>
>>51880007
>No, it isn't

Yes, it is. Remember, your autism is the variant position. The DM *might take control* indicates this is just one option. You can fully expect playable-from-level-1 undead to show up sooner or later; Volo's didn't have much at all for undead antagonists, either.
>>

Vampires definitely fit as PCs, and were PCs before thieves and probably clerics were playable.

>inb4 "but vampires kill things and are mean :("

I have a varied currency system in my games, depending on where the players get coin from.

Dwarven Glimmers, Shillings and Pennies are the GP, SP and CP. Mithral Glints are a dwarvenwork coin made of mirthal, valued same as PP.
Elven Falcons and Sparrows are the GP and SP, but they most often work in trade-goods and the like.
Imperial Crowns, Imperial Silver and Imperial Bits are their GP, SP and CP.
Florince Dabloons are an old currency, worth 3GP to each Coin.
Silver Dollars and Silver Dimes are the GP and SP equivilent in some areas.

Dragon eggs are heavy, smooth edged golden coins worth 25GP each.
Dragon writs, are usually papers of credit that are valued match to Dragon-eggs used by merchants.

Midnight Curses are a platinum coin found in old ruins, valuable but hard to find common traders who will accept them due to superstition surrounding the currency and the fey. The price varies depending on whomever is valuing them, a wary trader may only offer 5gp a coin for them and only accept a small amount, A no-nonsense travelling merchant might take them at face value but an eager collector may offer 15gp per coin. A particularly suspicious looking fellow who seems shifty as fuck might offer 25gp each, who knows maybe they really are cursed.

One of the most unsual, the currency kept by the druids in the realm are Obelisks, each worth 10gp and each a stone pillar several feet thick and ten feet tall, about five hundred are arranged in a massive stone circle in the forest and they are never moved, the druids just keep track of who owns which stones... Somehow. There are several smaller circles of less than a hundred or so scattered about. Several of the stones have been damaged, stolen, lost, or even outright destroyed, but the druids claim that they must exist in some way, shape or form, and thus continue to trade them.

Murian Slugs are now the newest addition, heavy finger sized ingots of adamantine worth 100gp each.

>>
>>51880106
There's nothing even 0.0001% abnormal about Lawful Evil PC behavior, and LE's behavior is essentially the same as Chaotic Good ("do things you're comfortable with") so yeah, it is the default.

There's a bit of a difference in "option the DM can choose to disallow" and "option the DM can choose to allow," and vampires are in the former.

Even if being a vampire was in the category of, say, feats and monstrous humanoids (things the DM can choose to allow), though, that still wouldn't justify you being an uppity little entitled CUNT about it.

>>51880074
I want to do this with my next setting, which might not be in 5e, but it was mentioned before in a past thread that an interpretation of the fey might be the spirits of the un-buried dead attached to something or somewhere where they died.
So an 'elven man' could be a spirit that attached to a grove where he fell asleep and never woke up, searching for his past identity. His body would likely be composed of fragments of trees where he fell and pieces of wood that twisted themselves into the shape of a man, because his soul was desperately looking for his body.
If I had to write rules for these sort of unburied, I'd say that due to their nature as spirits given a second shot at life, their unliving nature means healing magic doesn't work on them and they don't recover HP normally.
Greeks used to pay libation to the dead, which could be anything from just wine, mead, milk, oil, or honey for the ordinary dead or blood for the sake of heroes or warriors. Allegedly, a libation made correctly sometimes allowed the ritualist to speak with the dead, as sustenance (particularly blood) made a spirit physically present for a short period.
So instead of regular healing potion or spell, you could have a cleric prepare a specific ritual to allow the fey to walk about a little longer to conclude his business. A past life could also explain proficiency with weapons or tools, but I would say they can't be revived- their connection to the world is weak at best, so obliterating their body would put them to eternal rest.
>>
>>51880182
Makes you immune to spells like charm person, hold person and a lot of others that target "Humanoids."

>>
>>51880232
Do you mean the Zendikar race? You're probably right (though I think of that more as a mercy for PCs), in general I don't find anything not "undeady" about vampires.

As reasonable as it is to consider vampires to not be undead, one could just as reasonably consider skeletons and demiliches to be constructs (a form of uppity animated object), the guys that have no bodies and no souls (WTF?) to be fiends, ghouls and ghasts to be aberrations, and zombies and perhaps mummies to be, depending on creation method, diseased, cursed, and controlled humanoids.

In fact, I really enjoy that concept, minus the annoyance it'd cause players with anti undead effects.

>>51880303
I'm literally asking you, what would it add?
It can't be mechanically an undead, because all races are humanoid, and the design of 5e necessitates that.
The flavor of undead in the standard setting information implies the vast majority to be soulless and evil.

I'm not saying adding any particular race is bad, but Tabaxi fulfills the animal-person niche, and they went with a "fast and claws" theme with cats. I actually wasn't excited for it at all, but i won't ban it either.
If an undead race comes out, i will feel identically.
>>
>>51880250
Nah, DM fiat is a vampire turning you into a full on vampire out of niceness or another reason (quest reward), but even an uncooperative vampire can eventually be forced by a necromancer or even by the right charm spell. Even higher level is various uses of True Polymorph.

Its not that being undead is impossible in 5e, its just backloaded and really, really powerful.

Meanwhile, the skellumton and zombie stats are pretty weak but wholly optional. I have a feeling they will inevitably show up in a splat. Both are intelligent in 5e, though there's no particular reason they'd cooperate with PCs, so I'd probably have them be sent by a necromancer ally/mentor of the PCs (Or maybe even something not very necromancy focused, like an ordinary cleric). If somebody actually wanted to play one, I wouldn't have a problem.

You can't create 2 weapons with your Pact of the Blade feature, the first disappears when you use it again. You also can't manifest any of the Invocation options for the feature if you transform another weapon into your Pact weapon, because you have to manifest that weapon type.

Most obvious ones seem to be zombies and skellingtons.

Vassaliches would also be cool -- a sort of lich's apprentice monster from 2e, but you could justify just about any power level for it.

>PCs need to be humanoid by the games design.

They really don't. The Charm Person thing is incredibly tenuous and has never been a problem in any other edition. You could play D&D for 10,000 years and never see a single campaign imbalanced or disrupted.

Undead type (can't be healed by most healing spells)
abilities that make them hard to kill, like the zombie's Undead Fortitude and a +2 to Con
doesn't need to eat sleep or breathe as their ribbon (don't try to pretend this has a mechanical impact beyond preventing your precious midnight camp ambushes, faggot)
slap poison resistance on there too, fuck it, dwarves and halflings get that already
if players whine that there's no difference between skeletons and zombies with that version, add some subraces. Skeletons get +1 dex and the ability to disassemble their body while they're conscious and operate their pieces seperately, zombies get +1 str and advantage against being frightened or something, I don't know.

That's what I would present to a player who asks to be an undead. Making a template that can be applied over an existing race would be too much of a headache.

I'm starting a cave crawl to end a campaign, but I'm kind of stuck trying to come up with something more fun than just "the enemies approach you in the cave."

It's a sandy, below-a-desert cave and it's got essentially wild magic dust floating in it; I'm probably gonna use the wild magic table for shenanigans, but that doesn't feel like enough for this delve to not be boring.

You guys got any good cave encounters you've run? I want to steal them.

I'd suggest using something different than the wild magic table, it's honestly a bit too randumb for my tastes with all "turns into flowerput" kind of stuff.
I've always felt like something akin to Perils of the Warp from Dark Herecy or maybe even Warp Touch from 3,5 would be more appropriate for Wild Sorcerers.
>>
>>51881147
Oh yeah, I just forgot the Paladin's 1d8 extra radiant damage is tied to the Divine Smite, not being an inherent Undead thing.

That would apply, though, in case some Pally would want to come fuck your day.

Undead Paladin dealing Radiant damage to their brethren? Oh the irony.
>>
>>51881158
The warp table's not a bad idea, but it's more to fuck with spellcasting than warp the characters; the previous parts of the campaign involved specifically developing ways to avoid being tainted by the shit in the air, but I figured it wouldn't extend to their spells. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Actually, is this just a shit idea altogether? I'm forever DM so I don't know how unfun it is to have a condition where casting spells would cause random effects alongside the spell.

Thanks to some crafty developers on Github, I've found a way to simply integrate 5etools' collection of all the stat blocks in 5e with Roll20.

The instructions can be found on the github readme for 5etools (https://github.com/5egmegaanon/5etools) but here it is below:

>Go to https://github.com/5egmeganon/D20plus. Follow the instructions for use: install Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey, install the script, then you're good to go.
(This is my branch of the d20plus userscript, with support for the JSON files instead of dealing with messier XML files).

>Open the Roll20 game you want to import the monsters into.

>With the userscript installed, go to the gear icon and hit Import Monster. Use the following URL for the prompt that pops up: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/5egmegaanon/5etools/master/data/bestiary.json

>Let it run. Your journal will fill up with monsters. It's not too laggy but can take a long time because of how many monsters there are.

>Bam. Done. If you are using the Shaped sheet, be sure to open up the NPC sheets and let them convert before using it.

bestiary.json contains all 737 (give or take) stat blocks in 5e, for ready use in Roll20 with this easy userscripts. There are sometimes errors (like Undefined Weapon Attack for attacks, not something I have figured out a fix for yet) so make sure to check the sheets beforehand.

This only works if the BBEG is the object of vengeance.

If it's some side character or even a lieutenant there's nothing to keep the revenant around with the party most of the time since they should be running off to single-mindedly pursue their target, none of this "we need to gather more intel" or "yeah okay we know where he is but we have to deal with this other shit first" or "we've got sidequests bro, think of the loot"

I read the thing that made Revenant a character option and don't recall that being in there, especially because it recommended a DM could use an extra-planar entity as your object of vengeance and there are very few powerful ones that you could kill in a year.
>>
>>51878353
In terms of planar travel, one group I've been to the Elemental Planes of Magma, Earth and Air. None of them were any fun, especially Magma.
Another group went to Canceri for a bit, as prisoners. We escaped, killed some Yugoloths and ended up in the Abyss where we were slaughtered by a passing force of demons and our souls devoured by a passing demon lord who would die with the rest of his forces in a minor skirmish before reaching the main battlefields of the Blood War. Kinda depressing.
>>

But yeah it would suck for whoever picks that option, I'd let them have as much time as they need to get their vengeance.

You should be the last to die, even if you throw yourself in the line of fire. This means you need to output as much damage as possible to stop your friends dying.

Javelins are a pain because they don't work well with multiattack.

Go for ones you can force fail saves on the DM.
>>
>>51882581
Going dex instead of strength prevents you from using PAM/GWM/etc feats, but allows you to focus on dex and con.

With good dex and con, you get great AC and lots of health.

You don't get rage damage and can't use reckless attack without taking a to-hit penalty.
Your athletics is worse (Worse grapples) but...

You get better initiative, better stealth, don't need to wear disadvantage-on-stealth armour, better acrobatics/sleight of hand and dex saves (dex saves are more important than str saves)

And dex barbarian is pretty much fully rogue compatible, often recommended to multiclass into rogue at level 5, shield+rapier for maximum tanking. Though you can also do strength barbarogue with two shortswords for a grappling gimmick and more aggression.
Basically:
Dex Barbarian - Ultimate Tank
Stength Barbarian - Acknowledges they're already tanky and goes for more aggression

The reason Cursebringer is like it is, is to prevent multiclass cheese.
Imagine, if you will, a Paladin multiclassed into Hexblade to get that tasty MAD GWF and a whole minute of baloney damage bonus, on top of already getting smites of their own (and maybe even being able to use Cursebringer's smite on top of that, they didn't really elaborate on that part.)
The bonus is far too much.
So you're basically sacrificing your CHA weapon and damage (which you'll get with Lifedrinker anyway later on) for a much better use of your Curse and free smites.

Depends on what you mean by inappropriately anime. If you want high-powered stuff, try looking at the heroic variants rules in the DMG (healing surges, cleave, epic boons, etc). If you just want kitsune, there's a decent write-up on DM's guild also a really terrible one, avoid it at all costs.. If you just really just want to play something anime and you don't care about the system try Risus, OVA, or Big Eyes Small Mouth.

So for a Dex-Barbarian all you get from Rage is resistance to damage then. Seems like a waste of a core feature. I guess there's stuff you get from class features.

We accidentally went to the Abyss. Went through some tunnels, fought some devils (demons?) and saw giant books int he distance. We'd heard of a library there so we started going towards it, after a fight where we got help from quasits they told us to come with them, they took us to my character's patron who was like "what the fuck are you doing here?", and showed us the way out.

Got to the portal out, big devil (demon?) guy that ruled the place wanted to talk, the monk said fuck that and ran for it, the devil gave us 1 minute to run up the ruined stairs and out the portal before killing us and we barely made it with some twinned haste and rogue+monk speeds. In the astral plane we got lucky and through random rolls ended up going through a portal back to the material plane, surprising some goblins.

We also saw into the plane of fire a session before that and helped a guy who told us to visit him there if we needed anything, and rescued some party members from a cryofreeze tower in the ethereal plane.

Acrobatics, sure, but does sleight of hand come up that often, especially for barbarians?
>dex saves
danger sense
>And dex barbarian is pretty much fully rogue compatible,
so is strength barbarian because sneak attack doesn't require dex

Well, why not use max damage + damage dice? Meaning crit, instead of being, say, 2d8, is 1d8+8? It makes crits feel more than just hits that do max damage.

Is it worth multiclassing assassin with feylock for critical pseudosmite?

How does Loremaster compare to any of the other schools? Is there anything super awesome I'd be missing out on by going Loremaster?

>Everytime we do Initiative we have to all roll. then he goes from person to person one at a time.

That's how my group does it and it barely takes a minute. Usually when I DM I already prep an initiative sheet with the monster's initiative ahead of time so I don't spend time rolling a bunch of dice and writing down monster stuff, all I have to do is fill in the player's names.

Another thing we do is when we call on a player for their turn, we let the next person in initiative know they're coming up so when its their turn the player is ready to go instead of pausing and grinding combat to a halt because they're not ready.

>Also, Crits are just max damage now, instead of rolling 2 sets of dice.
max damage if you were rolling double dice, i hope?
also tell him the usual house rule is to just double the dice damage

You'd miss out by not going Loremaster
>>
>>51883241
That's the problem. Other than Portent and maybe Real Illusions, there's not really much you can't get as a Loremaster. It's almost undoubtedly the strongest Wizard school of all.

That's why I nerfed them, but changed them considerably by making the 14th level feature more "Loremaster-y": http://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/Hy-1O7Z8tl

You're using methods of calculating AC that don't stack with each other, as well as not choosing the pact option that makes bladelocks even a little bit usable. Also, nothing that you can do with weapons will equal what you can do with spells with those wizard X levels.
>>
>>51883411
No need to even stack AC, Bladesinger is enough in on itself for that. I think the Monk was only for getting to use Dex with the Mace, which, combined with the ability to knock Huge or smaller creatures prone is just absolutely bonkers.

Is this fair metamagic assuming lore wizard is banned and sorcerers will get all their metamagic by 10?
>Spell Weaving
>You can change the damage type of a spell to fire, cold, lightning, or poison damage by spending one metamagic point. Can be used in concert with other metamagic.

>Greater Spell Weaving
>Requires:Level 10
>You can change the damage type of a spell to radiant, necrotic, acid, or thunder by spending one + the spell's level metamagic point(s). Can be used in concert with other metamagic.

Then level 17 give them
>Fundamental Force
>As an object interaction, pick a spell from any spell list for which you have spell slots/points for. For one minute you may cast this spell as though it were a sorcerer spell. The ability to cast this spell disappears at the end of the minute. Can be used once per long rest.

Why the level 10 requirement for acid?

Isn't acid generally better/less resisted than the first 4?

>Resistance to literally everything (Or resistance to physical + everyone else gets melee advantage) + advantage on strength checks + negates damage loss from reckless attack if you need advantage for sneak attack is a waste of a core feature

It's fucking +2 damage per hit you've lost if you've multiclassed into rogue
If you use a rapier, that's a loss of, what, possibly 4 damage? If you want that damgae back, you can always take a level of fighter.. Or just keep levelling up rogue for sneak attack progression.. Instead the +1 AC style would be better.

>Dex makes danger sense good
It's already fine enough. Whether or not you have dex, I don't think it matters too much with regards to danger sense.

You're missing the main point - 22 base AC.without a fighting style or magic items or even wearing armour at all.3 higher than a strength barbarian with a shield, until level 20 when you're presumably multiclassed and if they haven't they might've caught up. But you won't play to 20, probably.

What's the best way to make a low/zero gravity fight interesting? Players will be fighting in a gladiator pit in space.

>You don't get health from dex
I didn't say that.
Con gives you HP, and the feats you're not spending on GWM and PAM and sentinel and all that you can put into con. If you don't get those feats as a strength barbarian (not barbarogue) you're a failure.

>Which is why dex barb is shit
I don't know, reduced damage for higher AC is a perfectly fine tradeoff, especially when shields exist for that very purpose.

>You already get that from feral senses
If you get it as a level feature. If you consider the dex and feral senses to be equal to each other, then you're taking a feature to come up to par with dex barbarogue's initiative whilst dex barbarogue is getting cunning action. Also, if for some reason you decided to be a pure dex barbarogue (Why? ) feral senses and higher dex does stack.

>Low stealth can be made up for with..
Yes, if you do have one of those classes or shadow monk. Otherwise, not as much. Or your team might be incompetent and didn't take it / decides no to use it. Or, even with the +10 to stealth, you still fuck up. Pass without trace isn't a gauranteed success, just makes having low stealth less of a problem, though that's pretty much what you said.

>Does sleight of hand come up that often?
I don't find it common the first place, but you're presumably going to be some barbarian-rogue hybrid, so you can ask, 'does the rogue need sleight of hand'? Answer: Possibly?

>danger sense
Doesn't gaurantee success at all.

Anyone who doesn't receive a Fly spell is going to be very limited. Moving in zero gravity consists of climbing along walls and carefully aiming and pushing yourself toward anything not connected to you by walls. Walking doesn't work. If the walls don't have excellent handholds you can very easily get stuck drifting.

Also, it's easy to get very heavy objects moving, even if you'd normally be too weak to lift or drag them in Earth gravity, but once they're coming at you it can be very difficult to stop them.

>Where have your adventures taken you, and what called you across the planes?

I'm running a hexcrawl game and one anon had suggested a neat idea of "a pond that is far deeper than it appears" as an interesting location. I decided that this would be a portal to the plane of water.

Their first encounter with the pond they stumbled upon it only to see a fishman (Sahaguin) dive into it. Being the curious PC's they are they tie a rope to the Half-Orc and leash him onto their pack mule. The half orc dives in to take a look. Inside he finds what seems to be a seemingly endless ocean with no surface in any direction. The orc sees the fishman swim off and they pull him up via the donkey (which is a good thing because he didn't take off his chainmail when jumping in).

Couple sessions later the PCs be all like "fuck this we're exploring that pond". They buy some a scroll of water breathing and two potions of water breathing. The PCs tie up their mule and leave it in the hands of DM mercy and jump in to explore. They follow the direction of the fishman they saw and come across what appears to be a giant spherical castle like structure made out of coral floating in this ocean. Upon closer investigation they find that there is a large pocket of breathable gas inside this strange structure. They go in and start exploring.

At this point the PCs have run out of their water breathing potion and are effectively trapped.

Shall I continue?
