I was thinking of getting some cult units, a haemonculi, some wracks and grotesques.
Scissor hands are the best melee weapon by far, but what about their ranged options?

liquifier guns have a 1/3 chance for ap2 or better, 50 50 for ap3 but they're only strength 3. they give me a template to protect myself from charges but take away a close combat attack (which would mostly only be useful when they get furious charge turn 4).

Hexrifles and ossefactors sound good too, they ignore toughness and have a chance to instant death monsters while they seem like they would also be useful vs troops due to their sniper and calcific spears rule.

Il put my haemonculi in with the trueborn, if everything goes to plan they can teleport in turn 2 and then charge turn 3.

Also, any good ideas how to use the animus vitae?

Tau are easier to paint, better to play this edition (codex-wise).
Word to the wise, Do not buy minis based on rules alone. Go with the toy soldiers that look best to you. Rules change pretty quickly, minis do not.
GW paints are good, as you progress in painting, you should move towards using paints from different ranges (greens from P3, Yellows from GW, etc etc)
GW brushes and other tools are generally good quality, but overpriced and wear out more quickly than others without proper care.

There are always alternatives. I only use GW primer spray and some of their layers. Most other colors are from Vallejo. I use the UHU PLAST SPECIAL Modellbaukleber (glue) and it works very well.

Chaos Space Marines are bad Space Marines, both fluff and crunch-wise. Strongly consider using the regular SM codex if you are going to play them.

Orks are random and bad, not just because they are random, which makes them worse. Orks do frontal horde instead of sneaky horde, they can also do other stuff, but no matter what, they are bad. They do have a really cheesy tactic involving elites and heavy support, but honestly, if you have to resort to that, it's not even worth playing.

Supposedly Cypher will lay down so much truth that the half of the Chapter will repaint their armors black (led by Azrael) while the other half will remain green (led by Asmodai). I think the majority of the Inner Circle will stay with the Asmodai but I don't recall that part very well.

I always do my own scheme and lore. My Guard are from a prison planet that conscripts prisoners as meatshields for reduced time or freedom. I also fluff the prison warden as a badass in close combat so I use Straken rules or give him the deathmask and powerfist. Vets are riot squads with shotguns and carapace. Stuff like that. I also fluff them as being known for their siege tactics and often used to storm places due to the warden being aggressive and the prisoners being desperate to not rot in prison forever.

Two liquifiers in a, I dont want to say a venom because it's less durable and doesn't have a 3+ jink, raider? Buff it up to a 9 man squad and charge a weak unit after the transport get blown.

4+ cover isn't to hard to get past. It's when it gets boosted to 3+ with skilled rider on something that already needs AP 3 to get past where its annoying.

Alright lads, a friend of mine is building up his Imperial Fists currently and needs some help with putting together a coherent list.

Pic related is the stuff he has at the moment, which he mostly bought because he likes the models and liked how they are meant to perform on the TT.

Any ideas in which direction to expand? Though that Sternhammer might be alright, but getting Terminators in there seems impossible at 1850 points. Is a simple CAD the best he could go for? He was thinking about getting a second Razorback, a Stormraven and a Dreadnought and let Lysander, the Terminators and Dreadnought fly in together.

I certainly like what I've seen of it. I like the idea of getting some Eldar terrain, and the fluff of a couple of my other armies has them located on forested deathworlds.

Commoragh is dead, Vect makes new city, Biel-Tan is smashed into a fleet of ships after the Infinity Circuit goes boom and is eaten by Ynnead, it's Avatar is created and they go invade a Croneworld, they get what they came for and leave. Ynnaed and crew go to Iyanden and recruit a bunch of people. Ynnari (Ynnead's group) go to the moon at the end of Fall of Cadia and rescue the Imperials.

Ynnari and the Imperials get together and go to Macragge and revive Guilliman, Cypher and the fallen joins with loyalists. (This section is what we know of book 3 though.)

They're so heavily radioactive that they decompose their enemies a noticeable amount in the timeframe of a melee fight, they don't live very long unless they reach Alpha Primus and can be deemed worth rad-cleanser chambers.

Some are born the natural way, some are artifical, it varies in method and social acceptance across the galaxy, like most Imperial things.

Hierarchy: If by better you mean higher-ranked, correlation doesn't mean casuation, it's largely meritocratic, but the higher ranks tend to augment more visibly anyway unless they're Genetors (Best Magi) who enhance their flesh to silly levels instead (Believe the body is a machine which can be optimized, so they do.) Either way, they are stupidly powerful at the High/Arch Magos stage. Forge of Mars ends in an epic Matrix duel between two of them that starts fucking up an entire Ark Mechanicus just from the side effects.

They don't particularly welcome guests as a whole, but again it varies. Some are dicks, some are cool, like Archmagos Kotov and Cawl.

You'll be fine. Their Start Collecting set is one of the best in terms of both monetary value as well as unit strength and they allow for a ton of viable lists below 1500. After that, you would probably need a War Convocation to be really competitive, but even without you'll be fine.

Just try to get a grip of all of their rules and don't forget to use what the Omnissiah gave you. I also see not having Psykers as something that additionally helps with making the army more accessible.

The dexes, of course, and HH: Mechanicum, even if the 30k Mechanicum were somewhat different to the "Modern" ones.

I will also reccomend the Forge of Mars trilogy, it has plenty of other characters to bounce the Magi's views off and give reasons for some exposition dumps, and are mostly really good, even if they do cram loads of non-Admech people into the books for reasons. Also Admech Living Saint equivalent.


Only problems with the book IMO:
