There were two apps that didn't make it in.

If you were Toshimi, I must apologize, but the fact that you were in my HV game was the primary reason you didn't make first cut. I liked the character, but you've got the world's most moe Kuthonite in HV and are a beloved team member there (which means even if you're having issues with time, I will endeavor to accommodate you).

If you were Rana, it was the combination between grammar and backstory which made him the only application I had actual issue with. He was both too old and experienced really to be an entrant into the Institute, and the application was riddled with grammar errors. That being said, he was a cool concept and with polish would have been really neat, but he was just not a fit for the game I wanted to run.

Hey, I'm interested in joining that sick Wrath of the Righteous campaign everyone's spicy about, but I need to know something first... How snowflake is too snowflake for an Avowed (in this case, Celestial) backstory?

Like, let's assume I'm going for the Stolen Fury trait, where my character is stolen as part of a secret cult thing. Is it too much to say the character *was* killed by the cultist's blade, but rather than a demon ripping his soul out, Pulura shoved his soul back *in*, and in the process jumpstarted his heart as divine energy started pumping through his veins?

Ok so I'm just learning PoW and I don't think I'll ever be able to make intelligent decisions on initiating builds as you guys do. So lets say I like a weapon group but my chosen class doesnt have any disciplines that have it as an associated. Am I better off trading them away via traits and traditions, or do these disciplines by design synergize with the class and I'm much better off by taking weapon group adaptation?

It would probably be easier and more efficient to just take Weapon Group Adaptation unless there's something in a specific discipline you want. Note that many disciplines don't require the use of a discipline weapon, though it is highly recommended because of Discipline Focus. Due to WGA's wording taking it makes your chosen weapon group work for ALL of your disciplines, so if you end up taking Discipline Focus multiple times because of the increased DCs you should be able to stack the extra damage too.

Because the only workhorse feat you really *need* for Strength is Power Attack, and it works better with two-handed weapons. You only ever add your Dex once, by contrast.

Also, because Dex builds still need more feats (Deadly Agility or Slashing Grace, at the very least), so a Strength-based build still gets more freedom to try different strategies and add more tricks to its toolbox (Master Craftsman, Advanced Weapon/Armor Training, Eldritch Heritage, etc.).

TWF *might* make Dex pull out ahead, but boosting Strength as high as possible--such as through items, Orc or Abyssal bloodline, Dragon Disciple, and rage--is going to be a much simpler way to keep pace in terms of damage.

The idea wasn't really to be balanced, but I changed up the Weapon Focus tree because of how just... You don't have to put any effort in, don't have to think about it, just write 'kitsune' on your sheet and enjoy the barrage of dicks. The other sub races alleviate the problem by being less well known. Right now we're working on a proper playtest with 5 classes (Striker/Armiger/Blacksmith/Champion/Scholar) and 10 Spheres (Lancer, Boxing, Wrestling, Guardian, Dueling, Fencing, Gladiator, Athletics).

As far as I'm aware it'll be an open playtest, so yay on that. That's why we didn't give another preview recently, we've been prepping that and discussing what to include.

The sphere list is subject to change, but the class list is probably finalized for this playtest.

Ehn's kick ass house rule: Whenever you dedicate your martial focus to a sphere, it's always dedicated regardless of if you expend focus or not.

This means if you blow your focus to challenge someone with guardian sphere, you're still treated as though you were dedicated to that sphere for anything that gives you a benefit for dedication.

It just struck me why BAB's usage in SoM feels completely at odds with CL usage in SoP (which itself is still pretty flawed):

You attack with BAB. You don't attack with CL... you "attack" with whatever primary attribute is driving your saving throws. CL is just used for the "must be this tall to ride" of SR and for scaling *after* the attack has succeeded.

We actually have a feat that does something similar, it treats you as always dedicated to X sphere regardless.

The reason for this is that I feel such a feat would be a must have, and Rule 4 of Jolly's rules of design state that "If a choice is so obvious to a player that it becomes required for every build INFUSION DISCOVERY, it should be a core part of the class/system/archetype/etc".

I have several design rules like this that I always follow, but number 1 is always "I will only write content I would want to use myself." This keeps me from writing garbage because I don't want to play with garbage.

Kinda the reason i'm doing that whole houserule test game thing; Tons of feats in pathfinder are designed as basically either "Must haves" or "Get this or you will never be good and oh it's merely only a +1 bonus", which is why I changed up Precise Shot, Power Attack, Weapon Focus/Specialization/Their greater versions, and the maneuver feats to scale/made some of them free:

It's so that even if it's ABSOLUTELY needed to be good, it's still good by midgame and even lategame, and scaling it's bonuses by BAB makes the feats even more attractive for martials to nab instead of treating it like just another tax so they can hit something in combat while the wizard is busy nuking the BBEG's home country.

And of course, the fact the various feat trees in that doc I posted along with the chargen rules auto-unlock as you progress up their requirements is a neat concept and makes it just a matter of allowing for doing tons of neat stuff in and out of combat without having to dedicate a "Build" to it.

Yeah, I saw a lot of that even in the preview stuff; That sorta stuff is, imo, really refreshing to see. Make the player long for having chosen different stuff, but don't make them regret it because they fell into the beginner trap hole of doom #565767342341 by choosing one feat instead of another feat. Well it's a sorta melding of 3.5e Power Attack (In that there's no cap to how much attack bonus you can blow for damage) and PF Power Attack in that it's +2 damage for every -1 to your attack roll (And that bonus damage scales by BAB too.), and with how weapon finesse is free, and how dex to damage can be a choice when wielding ranged weapons/finesse weapons, I wanted to add in a benefit for STR users using big twohanded swords, so hence why there's the +100% damage boost for twohanding a twohander instead of +50%.

Anything else just requires some extra thought as to why someone from such a high station would end up in her situation. More than likely, you should make her something like the third-to-seventh daughter of the monarch in question, so that she's not the heir to the throne.

Well, Fighter's gotten a potent reworking as well, being given 6 base skill points, a heck of a lot of bonus stuff on top of full SoM progression, and with how the feat auto-progression is, they can become INCREDIBLY versatile, along with a buffed up, auto-gestalted with UC Barbarian with an amped up Rage ability.

UC Rogue also got their sneak attack dice buffed to d8s instead of d6s, full BAB progression, and bonus feats, too, along with gestalting it with Swashbuckler with slightly-less assy Swashbuckler weapons guff (Finesse and Light weapons instead of just the rapier)

UC Monk got some less MADness going on along with some bonus feats, so, eh, they have that going for them.

I did all I could for Cavalier/Samurai, so, not sure how much more I can salvage out of that trainwreck.

Although I might bump Slayer's casting down to Low, not sure yet.

It's a pretty good story, if simple. The only real issue I have is lack of a good reason to go piratein' and murderin' and stealin' as opposed to joining the navy or something. There's no push that would send him over the edge to simply dropping his stuff and leaving - what was that trigger? Did someone call him a bad name or something?

From a memeing perspective, there's not much meme potential that I can see off the bat - he's pretty much a "goodie two shoes naive person trying to pretend to be a pirate" is the vibe I'm getting, but there's just not as much to grab. Exaggerating a couple of personality points and eludicating on them in your bulletpoints might help.
