I saw this movie after Alan Rickman passed away. It was so good.
I dont have a clue.
But it looks interesting although I know I would never play
>It just feels like there has to be a better way Ivan
That look so much scarier than doing it the other way
Its on my computer but it still makes me mad
Damn that was sexy.
No it isn't, I had one doing that to a woman I saved. The animal needs to be in a enclosed space, disturbed by females on heat or something, but it happens.
Record of Lodoss War
That's a pretty freaking neat trick, too bad it's illegal in fencing.
Is that fencing? I thought that was with the bendy rapiers or something.
props to the guy doing that i would go berserk with frustration after a while
It really is the perfect Star Trek parody. The kind of parody that shuns cheap humour, and instead delivers something that is such a great homage to the original that I still find it hard to believe Hollywood actually made it. It not only pokes fun at the series, but much more at the phenomenon it has become.
Sometimes it's hard to believe that this was someone's campaign. Then people devolve into rambling and the world is nonsense for a bit and it's all too easy to believe that this was someone's campaign.
I looked this thing up. The concept is an idea I had for so long, and now someone did a shit version of it apparently. Lets just hope that marines sent to ancient Rome thing works out.
From what I hear most of its shittieness comes from how much of it is Japanese Military Wanking.
Like the scene where a Japanese spec-ops team is able to beat their American, British and Russian counterparts all at once. And the Americans not knowing that the Japanese has special forces when said special forces are trained by Americans.
Don't forget to mention how the world's greatest super-powers, with close to a century of spec-ops and proxy based warfare, somehow managed to have spec-ops teams so incompetent as to not have night-vision goggles in a night-op in unfamiliar territory.
Oh, and also how the JSDF managed to identify the American spec-ops soldiers because one of them was black and "Only the Americans use black soldiers!"
God, the idea was so good before the retarded and down-right insulting Japanese imperialism ruined it.
Well, that and whenever it gets brought up makes me miss Nazi's in Fantasy Land.
These individuals are practicing a German longsword tradition from the 15th century with blunt feders made by Castille Armory.
They are not sparring but doing a demonstration for the camera. In this instance the technique that is being showcased is known as "durchlauffen".
Grappling and disarms are absolutely allowed and encouraged in the original source material, depending on tournament rules it may be different as most tournaments have their own specific rule and point system.
That is all. :)
Yea, I enjoy GATE allot more than I reasonably should but if they had just toned this down it would have been allot better. Like im fine with the JSDF taking point on the whole millitary situation for convinence sake but I would at least expect to see a good amount of US support considering how they effectively own Japan's millitary.
However the thing which grinds my gears the most about it has nothing to do with the jingoism or poor grasp of geo politics but the fact that MAGIC exsists on the other side of the gate (and is even shown to work in our world) and no one seems to give a shit. The worlds scientists would be clamouring to have an opportunity to study it and governments would be fighting eachother to exploit it but nope 'muh natural resources' is all anyone seems to care about.
>a good amount of US support considering how Japan is just a sock poppet the moment the US heard about the Gate.
Not even a 'Murrican and I can recognize this.
Then again, I get offended FOR the 'Burgers when Japanese nationalism and ideas of independence flare up, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to the most untrustworthy of all the Slants.
This entire anime would've been so much better if it was from the perspective of the fantasy population who are being vastly overpowered by modern tech. Then the entirety of the story could be about them stealing technology, starting a technological revolution, and unifying all the other races to stop modern soldiers from wiping the floor with them.
Instead this anime just feels like someone hated fantasy and really wanted to wank off the japanese military.
Now you kinda know how the world feels when the worst of the Jingo gets unleashed.
Every country has a right to its own exceptionalism sure, what I feel makes it worse in Japan is their passive aggressiveness.
Other than that I like how they handle it most of the times, more subtle.
I actually enjoyed tenchi muyo's various incarnations because the anime didn't try to be anything but that at face value. What bothers me is when seemingly interesting concepts get sidetracked so that the story can introduce a bunch of girls so a bunch of guys can go argue over who is "best girl."
Nah, the worst part about Japan's nationalism is because they never admit any wrong doing, and believe themselves to be in the right no matter how disgustingly atrocious something is.
The reason it's a little hard for me to take seriously is the fanfiction part of the jingoism. As of right now the Japanese have a neutered military and a fiercely pacifist dogma that Shinzo Abe is trying to slowly erode in the face of rabid opposition
And I don't even mind that. I'm glad our allies in East Asia are pulling their weight a lot more than most of the Europeans do. So the idea of Japan suddenly turning into #1 military imperial power is about as laughable as if you had an Indonesian, Egyptian, Turkish or BestKorea or Iranian jingoistic fanfiction about how they became the premiere military power. Japan stronk in Muvluv is perfectly fine because in that world Japan never left primacy as a major imperial power. It's as reasonable as jingoistic military fanfiction of the Soviet Union, the USA, the British back before 1940s, the Chinese in twenty or so years. Any fantasy that deals with the real world ideally needs some anchoring in reality to remain believable - strangereal instead of earth. Belka strong
And then the rampant slaughter of the fantasy-folks by the Japanese reminds me of babby's first loading up a total war game and throwing hordes of peasants against super-elite top-tier soldiers. Then again I've always been more of a fan of the heroism of equals fighting eachother over romanticized retellings of Thermopylae or the Alamo.
I've heard Monster Musume is good, and I love Tenchi, but most harem animes are blah, yeah.
B E L K A
Lodoss war is my nostalgic favorite of my childhood. I loved how quaint and stereotypically high fantasy it was, that it had no stereotypical elements of an anime to it. Outside of silliness like Gate I'm glad the Japanese took so well to sword and board fantasy - heck Dank souls literally does it better than most recent mainstream WRPG companies have. Then there's that really amusing dungeon cooking one that is too great.
I'm going to have to get a PS4 for the new one coming out. STRANGEREAL IS BACK BABBY.
There are still good western rpgs.
But yeah its been a while since Severance.
Look I've never played the game, but what the fuck happened to snake in the last few scenes there? He looks like he lost a lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan and turned to the dark side.
Would be a pretty good game with animations.
Story is weak tough.
I am now even more glad I decided not to watch GATE. I would have been okay with a bit of JDF wankery, but this isn't even JDF wankery. This is just beyond retarded.
>Oh, and also how the JSDF managed to identify the American spec-ops soldiers because one of them was black and "Only the Americans use black soldiers!"
To be fair, how many non-vodka/kahlua related Black Russians are you aware of?
>Get raped for three generations
>Never hear even single "Sorry"
>The people who did all that pretend it never happend
At least Germans hit their chests and admitted long ago all the shit they've did.
... and then D&D faggots will still pretend plate armour is heavy, cumberstone and shitload of other bullshit
shit I'm not sure if I can find it again, but I did read a manga recently like that. Its a bit more magic/gamey bullshit but its a fantasy world that has some weird shit happening in it.. think the scene that reminded me of it was a kid/toddler flying an attack helicopter and destroying a city.
If I can find it again I'll reply to this
well that was quick, only like 12 chapters on the site I use; its called 'Plunderer' starts off weird doesn't really stop being weird.
it says it still ongoing by translations aren't coming out for it on a regular basis.
also such a waste of trips.
>All that wanking about superior Japanese Self-Defense Forces
>Folded over 1000 times
This anime could be so much fun. Instead it's Sword of the Stranger-tier wanking about Japan, Japanese and their superiority in every single aspect imaginable. There is nationalism. And then there is Japanese nationalism.
>Shown in the same webm they can be even put vertically on a whim
Do I really need to go for some lenghty documentry about armour that you won't even bother to watch, because D&D and Mark Twain taught you that plate armour is shit?
>He never saw plate armour outside of films
But Burgers should be still asleep, then what the fuck?
It'll show its roots as otaku pandering real quickly. My boiling point was the main getting himself captured by some knights after the slaughterfest of >>45332584 which MIGHT have seemed like him just not wanting yet another group gunned down horribly by Apaches until I say it was an all female knight order he went out of his way to essentially get captured and abandoned by his team.
See I was out BEFORE they got ridiculous with the nationalism because that shit told me it was about the cute girls first and anything remotely close to a good story last.
I like the core concept, but I'm also convinced 90% of Japan won't pull off a GOOD modern-military-in-fantasy-world story. The people who could aren't interested in that stuff.
>Record of Lodoss War
I remember watching that on the Sci Fi channel years ago, when they used to do Saturday Anime. It was one of the first things I ever saw that got me into fantasy stuff. Still have so much nostalgia about it. I always think of it as the baseline for any tabletop adventure.
>Sword of the Stranger-tier wanking
At least that had some really, really neat fight scenes, so you could skip the wanking and go right to the business
>Calls it pretty good
>Follows with describing wankery
>Yamato Damashii: Animu Edition
It was still MASSIVE nationalistic wankery. And there is only one European out there. The only unusual part about Nanashi is hair colour. Do I really need to remind gingers happen between Japanese, if they have some Ainu ancestory? Or how he's 200% Japanese, with all that bullshit he speaks and how he's embracing the superior culture as his own?
No, seriously, that shit was absolutely atrocious, but had really fun combat
>A classic Yamato Damashii guy is fighting blond Caucasian male employed by treacherous Chinese, who are buying and bribing everyone with their money
Reading throught the 3e now, with mixed feelings so far.
is it actually possible in this system to kill someone from ambush instantl, without the use of Charms or other magic? As in, for example, for one mortal to shank another straight to Incapacitated in a dark alley?
This. The movie painted pretty much every Jap as a fairly grim/bad person and that their clannish society was what both made them weak and led to all their scuffling.
And China was shown to be held back by dogma.
Let me get this straigh:
>Points out what were the weaknesses of Japs in the past
>Paints Chinese as pure evil, winning thanks to drugs, cheating and bribes
>Paints Europeans as bastards who kill for fun and giggles
>The only decent characters are those embracing true Nipponese spirit, folded over 1000 times
And you still claim this is not a piece of 1st grade Yamato Damashii? How retarded are you? And how this anime wasn't a one massive "We are the bestest nation ever, because even if flawed, if we stick to the good old values, we can beat those pesky Chinese that outperformed our industry and those damn Westerners who treat us like shit ever since".
Implied BY WHAT?
You are just pulling it from your ass. It's intentionally treated extremely vague and if anything, red hairs aren't impossible for Japs. Already one of anons pointed all he had to do was having a single Ainu ancestor and a really bad luck to be ginger.
>Not liking superior technology roflstomping fantasy plebs.
I agree with the Jap military wank part, but seriously, we're using the technology we have for a reason: it's just better.
This otaku shit is terrible, its a universe of notRomans for the writer to wank out his NIPPON STRONK beating down westerners fantasy over but apart from them the alternate world also has superhuman gods conveniently in the form of cliche japanese-styled waifus wearing frilly gothic lolita dresses who side with the Jap soldiers and look like young girls despite their greater age and strength.
Yes, you do, although Lodoss War OVA blows everything else away.
Lodoss War tv series and Rune Soldier bleed in a lot of traditional anime tropes, and I'm not talking about the comedic aspects.
The fuck you are even talking about? This anime is oozing with Nippon stronk and exists - just like the manga - solely to push Yamato Damashii up to the roof. It wastes so many actually good ideas on generic waifu-driven show and constant reminders how Japanese are the best.
I'm Czech, you pleb
>Implied BY WHAT?
How about the entire reveal scene, with the kid calling him a barbarian, him vaguely saying that he wasn't sure of his own origin and there being a short flashback of him being on a ship in a storm or something? It wasn't even subtle.
Didn't all the Japanese soldiers die rather pathetic deaths, though? Like, the MC is the only one who really achieved anything and it didn't have anything to do with him being good or holding onto Japanese principles, he was a complete fucking dick and only did the "right" thing because he had grown fond of the kid.
>with the kid calling him a barbarian
>a short flashback of him being on a ship in a storm
Doesn't happen either
>he wasn't sure of his own origin
Which he says just to confort the kid and later to hide his identity from the vendor
You are sure you saw the same anime, you implying pleb?
>Japanese who don't stick to traditional values all die horribly
>I still don't see the message
Nah, it's just fact that what we have now is much, MUCH better than what we had back then, so even if they had all sorts of magic bullshit, I would have been pissed if the modern military lost.
Well, kinda pissed. I'd be pissed if it was the Russian or US military getting shit on, but Japan? Just fine.
Not that anon, but we were analyzing this particular anime as case of self-created Japanese imaginery during lovely course called "Auto-Orientalism in Japan". Oriental Studies are a blast, especially when you can laugh at weebs sitting in the front row and how they are grabbing all straws to protect something completely artificial... but I digress.
The point is - this anime is playing on both realism (Japs being bunch of traitors with no concept of loyality) and late 19th century propaganda imaginary (mostly based around "Bushido" by Inazo Nitobe), exemplified by Nanashi and all his actions.
In short - if a layman can see what is part of academic discussion and you still ignore it, you are just a moron who tries to use shitty ad hominem in defense of extremely nationalistic creation.
Reminds me of that anime that had supposedly (according to Skallagrim) the most realistic depiction of real, historical melee combat techniques and shit.
Shame I couldn't be bothered to look it up.
No idea what to name this one, but I'm sure there's something.
Zero no Tsukaima is a shitty show but it handles the whole 'modern tech in a fantasy setting' thing WAY better than this. I mean, just look at pic related.
She's got some 40-some odd years left before she transcends. She wants to spend it with someone she loves. She picked the protagonist. Also, not a death goddess. She's the apostle of the god of war and death. More like a prophet, though. She kind of acts as a roving shrine and missionary.
maria the virgin witch. and yeah, it was a good depiction, except for the fact the battles are the backdrop to a plot about a witch who can't handle war existing, but if she ever has sex she'll stop being magic... or something like that.
Indeed it is.
God damn i wish the author would update already, I've been getting impatient for Louise to come out of the god damn closet for ages now. Also I'm holding out hope that Igni can get rezed
>Being so butthurt about not having any history at all
Just poke around in most any place that has good concentrations of fanwork and you ought to find a bunch of shit. The whole reason it's popular is because it's just piss easy to justify crossovers with the whole summoning ritual bit.
I've never actually watched the original show but I still read the crossovers with it because there are a number of good ones.
>being history instead of making it
Don't worry, we'll always be around to save you from the world's #2 superpower - and your own economic savagery. It's ... our privilege.
Another thread ruined by people pretending to be European for luls
Blade and Soul.
It's you're typical Korean F2P MMO (Read, Grindy as fuck), but the action combat/combos make it somewhat satisfying to play.
The /vg/ thread is full of ERP waifu shit because of in depth character creation, but look there for server recommendations and general advice anyways if you decide to get into BnS.
>Nah, the worst part about Japan's nationalism is because they never admit any wrong doing, and believe themselves to be in the right no matter how disgustingly atrocious something is.
You could replace 'Japan' with America and you wouldn't have to change a fucking thing.
Conservation of detail. That question would not be asked unless the writer wanted the thought to come to mind.
You can have the fruitiest hair color imaginable and still be Japanese, but the moment someone asks, you're foreign.
>This level of denial
>This level of implying
I guess if you were motivaded strong enough, you could make a great worker for telemarketing. Unless of course the person on the other side of the call wouldn't simply hang out after listening to your bullshit
One of you gets a parachute and a cord, the other gets a cord.
The one with the cord will follow the one with the parachute and take the parachute when he dies.
yes, I know this story is greatly exaggerated in media, just roll with it for the joke
The funny part about this Anons, Is that I haven't watched Sword of the Stranger.
I'm talking about principles of writing here. You've heard conservation of detail under a more general name "Chekov's Gun": If there's a gun on the mantle in act 1, it will be fired in act 3.
With the assumption of a decent writer/director, the scene serves a purpose correct? What is the purpose of the scene?
At a minimum, the scene is meant to establish the character is different. What difference is the writer trying to convey?
Considering the tone and setting, I think "He's a foreigner" is a very reasonable option. If you have another theory, (E.G. Is there another character with the same hair color he's attempting to link him to?) I'll defend it with the same fervor.
Even the worst writers know not to write useless scenes, and this isn't written by absolute amateurs.
Maria was a gift from above.
I could not agree with that more. The second part, at least. I loved the concept of GATE, but when it suddenly became "oh btw, he actually IS an idiot, and EVERY girl wants his D for no reason" I grew very dissapointed.
That being said, what kind of system could run a game in this kind of "setting", aka modern vs fantasy?
no thanks. I don't plan on sliding my palms along the blade.
though it does make me curious, as to whether they used to make blade semi-dull back then. I can kind of understand due to the existence of plate and chain-mail.
It's very Pro-Japanese.
Just like ever pro-American piece of media in existence, except Americans are incapable of swallowing it when it's done by anyone but them.
Tl;Dr, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it at all.
>It's you're typical Korean F2P MMO (Read, Grindy as fuck)
>grindy as fuck
Nigga, you can get to max level in around twenty hours without even getting to the end of the main questline.
