To be honest he was never a good coach, at least in my opinion he was very overrated just because he is Slovene. Olimpije wasn't playing well under him and the wins he got were truly minimal, players didn't know what they were doing and were playing boring football so there were less and less fans. Yes chairman is a bit impatient in real life, but what can he do, he's almost half dead and doesn't have much time left to finish this project with Olimpija, he wants to make them regular Europe competitor. Elsner cared more about his looks, than managing the team, I don't think he had any control over the locker room.

I made a lot of players angry haha. The squad is actually really nice, too good for the championship and it has much more depth than I realised at first. If we don't trounce this league it's just because I am bad at the game (which I am).

I set up a few lower league friendlies and I'll try to get more signings-we have a 70 million profit atm and are getting lots of money from transfers.

These guys honestly kinda suck, mainly because they do nothing outside of waiting until a ball falls to them, when it does, they usually just try to blast it at the net. It's not /that/ bad in a 2 or 3 striker formation, because they'll likely be playing next to someone in a role that promotes more creativity. Since you want to go 4-2-3-1, I suggest using an AF.

Too many people trying to create, not enough people getting forward and trying to be on the end of something. Especially since they're all on support duty, your striker will be isolated up front, since there's nobody getting up there with him. You should change either your AMC or AMR to something with an attack duty. Like an IF(A) or an AM(A).

This has more to do with your 2 in the midfield. In a 4-2-3-1, you want a sitter/runner pair. One sits as a holding midfielder, one that goes up a little. With your AP(S) and DLP(S) in the midfield, they both will move up the pitch (DLP less so) And your 2 CB's will have little chance of stopping a potential counter attack. Should switch your DLP to defend, and your AP(S) to a CM(S).

>Automatic Fullbacks
You shouldn't have really anyone on automatic, their duty will match your mentality, and despite that not sounding bad, it can potentially be. If you're on defending, they'll also be on defend duty, and they'll contribute nothing for a potential counter attack. And you'll need width, assuming you're playing with IF's (You honestly shouldn't be playing a 4-2-3-1 without those).

I'm also running a 4-2-3-1, just on FM 17, 2nd season in the EPL, top of the league. Here's what it looks like.

Going forward it's a fairly slow way to play and can be man marked pretty easily
For a role that requires an incredible player it's just not very effective

There are modern successors to it too, like a ball playing CB in Juve's 3atb or a half back style dm who steps back to allow a cb to go forward

Now that I look at it, I basically told you to do the same thing I'm doing. Not that you can't copy it if you want, but try to use what I said as guidelines, so in short:

Is it me, or is Man Utd kinda like a fucking raid boss in 17? In past FM's, it's been Chelsea to be the team that's a pain in the ass to beat. I've seen posts in the thread about how Mourinho is such a good manager because his tactics are easier replicated by the AI and he doesn't randomly go and piss one of his players off like he does IRL. I haven't thought about it too much, but it's certainly looking to be the case.

I'm trying to offload my unwanted players (wingers as I use a 442 narrow) in order to buy more depth in wingbacks (I have 1 player who can play right wingback and my left wb starter just got an ACL injury keeping him out for 14 months at 30 years old.

My problem is, every time I list them on the market my GM comes to me and tells me that it was unsuccessful as there was no interest.

How in the fuck do I sell these cunts? Deadline day is approaching and I really, really don't want to go into the season with just 1 dedicated wingback on the right.

I want an attacking fullback who can put in a good cross but can't decide between these 2, Nego might be too much of a defensive liability but I'm playing on the counter where his pace could really make a difference.

I'd take Randall just because 20y/o > 25y/o but they're pretty similar players overall. The key attributes I look for an attacking fullback in order:
Pace/Acc (Nego)
Tack/Mark/Jump (Rand)
Aggre/Ant/Brav/Strength (Rand)
Cross/Pass/Vision (Nego)
Randall will definitely be a better defender and have much higher upside potential, so unless you absolutely need to create more chances, he's your guy

The engine is shit anyway lad. There's stats for aggression and strength but there's no actual contact, all figures teleport through eachother. SI update the visuals and the framework a little bit in the game engine, other features like an ingame twitter you can read but apart from that it's the same core game every year, £20+ plus a pop. Even Fifa gets more updates year to year and that's a full blown scam from 2012 onwards.

It's certainly the case, but you have to consider that Manure is one of the most reputable and the richest team in FM bar none, so it helps when creating a team. Well it's especially flagrant in my save because I have a hard Brexit: youth farms like /arse/ do well early on, and mega rich clubs maintain their status by buying international players who will have their work permit.

To me, there is no real reason to play the Winger role in the AML/AMR strata. Wingrs work just as well in the ML/MR strata. If you're going to use the AML/AMR strata, it's mostly for the unique roles there are in it and aren't available in other stratas (notably IF, RMD, who the fuck uses a WTM anyway?).

On an unrelated note I have two managers (one at Reading and one at Fiorentina) and it is pretty ridiculous how a championship side gets a budget of 22 million-meanwhile at Fiorentina, a side which I just got into the Europa league and finished 5th last season has a budget of 1.5 million. This is the most idiotic complaint though desu, the last time a major new feature was announced it was 3D engine back in like 08, there simply isn't that much "major" to be added. FM has always been about just bringing in minor features in an attempt to fine tune. The question is just whether the minor features will be anything worthwhile and how many of them there will be that will determine if 18 is any good.
Especially since they always tweak match engine with patches so it almost always ends up much better or worse than it is in beta/first few weeks anyway.

Are Liverpool always trash on other people's FM saves? Every year I play they just fade into mid-table obscurity at best. In FM 16 they've been relegated twice now-first time around they came 12th in the championship. They get trash ex-league 2 players in as managers even though their squad is probably good enough to push top 8. I don't think I have ever seen a Liverpool team succeed from FM 13-16.

What managers have they had? For me, they started off well by getting in Unai Emery after Klopp buggered off to manage Germany, but then Barca poached him and David Moyes came in (actually coming 2nd and winning the Europa League). After that Villas-Boas came in and almost got them relegated and Olmo (a Barca coach at the start of the game) got them back up to lower-mid table before finishing the job himself next season.

From there on it was just crappy 4-4-2 loving English managers who'd only managed one club in their lives before. Kind of sad desu.

I think it's less English bias (Except for players) and more how English clubs are more set up to succeed. Insane prize money (18th place EPL team gets around the same as first place Liga Santander), largest TV deal, and the fact that they have top facilities all around makes English teams a force in continental competition. Hell, Southampton won 2019 EL in my save.

Yeah the good thing about managing Brazil is that you only have to do 1 friendly a year because the World Cup qualifiers (and the Brazilian domestic season). You have to play some random game vs Argentina that the fans take really seriously but doesn't even count towards your achievements which is boring AF though.

There is so little defending talent, bar the RB Ricardo who is the best one in the world. I know what Klopp feels like at Liverpool now at least, though it's really annoying since all my club tactics have been defensive so far and I'm not really used to having to play so chaotically.

I have found 4-4-2 diamond really good in FM 16, I play a similar one with Fiorentina, just with a more centralised midfield.

it's basically cheat mode for a certain level of play (I've had like 3 undefeated promotion seasons with it) and even after that at higher levels it's still incredible strong

-overloads the middle in an fm where the wingers in a flat midfield 4 sit too wide
-has a natural overlap option that leads to a lot of unchallenged crosses
-is strong defensively because the fullbacks alone are now enough to severely limit crosses
-rarely sees the formations that directly counter it played by the ai because they're niche


It's not gamebreaking or anything but you combine that with it being a simple system that you can plug almost any player into and you have one of the best formations in the game.
Plus it's versatile enough that it can be a possession, quick direct attack or defensive counter formation with minimal changes.
