Fair enough. But I subscribe to a similar NHL hockey service, so I'm familiar with blackouts. I have the TV channels that the live tv shows air on so I can see those no problem. Never expected PPVs for free. I can always pirate those. In fact I'm kind of impressed, the FAQ for fight pass says PPVs get added a month after the fact, but I signed up and the most recent UFC ppv was already up, 2 weeks after it aired. I'm no shill but for 8 bux a month there is more content then I can digest. I'm mostly signed up because I was sick of looking for streams for obscure events.

Well yeah, he does it every fight and I don't think he can change such a built-in tendency. Plus I don't remember Maia charging in from way off until he got tired, but I do need to watch that fight again.
That being said I think Maia needs to backpack him and put him away in round 1 or he probably loses.

Maia does a lot of things atypical and cringe worthy and sort of ingenious when it comes to his shots.
The Masvidal fight demonstrates a lot of his craftiness. So on the most fundamental aspect Maia has a really ugly shot . Like you mention sometimes he shoots to far away, or he shoots with no punch to hide or give his shot extra speed/penetration, or he shoots on both knees and that drags/slows himself.
These are all mistakes i yell at my own students for making in wrestling in MMA it works and there are 3 major things why it works, and why it fucks with traditional folk style wrestlers and or MMA fighters with a more traditional folk style wrestling as TDD.
To parse Maia's single leg there are 3 major chains that he flows to
1) basic single leg shot series
2)half guard pull/ half guard sweep series
3) underhook fish/wall block
There's a lot to break down but basic jist is Maia goes for a single leg, and for all 3 phases he's constantly chaining smaller techniques/regrips/angles. So when i say single leg its not like just one clean and crisp, but like the webm on this post, he hits the single leg, gets the grip and "runs the pipe"/twist down his opponent.
So say he gets sprawled on during his single series of offense like in this webm >>76111300
Maia still stay's attach and pulls half guard, when Masdival sprawls out and kicks back the legs of his, Maia can still grip onto the legs with his half guard, what is really crucial and this will go into the 3rd phase, is that Maia is always punching/swimming for the underhook, he won the grip battle, with an underhook he can now impose his strength and hold his opponent down, continue to chain into a single leg, The half guard pull is like pulling a soft reset for a fucked up shot, it lets him re roll/re wrestle into a sweep /offensive set.

So say Maia botches his shot and his opponent sees the half guard pull and tries to step out. The third part of Maia's grappling game is using the walls. This is illustrate in this webm>>76111294
So to get out of someone's guard you just step away/step backwards, Maia is baiting Masdival to step backward with the half guard, and he keeps his leg laced to threaten Mas of the pul this forces him to back into the wall and corner himself. at the same time now Maia has the correct penetration to perform a legit single leg and finish the takedown

I like to rebuttal that Maia wasn't really panicking at any moment. I feel he was probably fucking tired as shit and legitimately injured/hurt from Masvidal's strikes. But he always kept his head on, because he was able to still tactically and methodically chain his grapples even if they did seem slower due to pain and fatigue

Oh he does care about being on bottom, but its on his terms, Maia's interesting because there are brief frames of seconds/moments when he does go on the bottom, he preps his grips/posture so fast that he shouldn't be seen as being in the defensive/ losing position but continuing a part of a longer chain of offense
Like him on the bottom (specially in half guard) should be seen (its debated if it should be counted) as a really long takedown.
Round 2 was funny because Fightmetric was saying Maia was like 0 in 10 in takedowns, but somehow both fighters were on the ground and he was on top. DC quips about that, and if you are able to read the offensive grappling Maia was taking down Masdival within that span of 90 seconds

I do know BJJ Scout has a project called Rollflow.com that is suppose to make an interactive map of how various grappling arts chain their techniques into each other. not sure if the series i was talking about is mapped there the project is still pretty young

Mousasi is still in the middle of a contract dispute I think. Jacare would make sense but I don't think the UFC would risk making him relevant again. I don't have any particular desire to see Weidman die in the cage but I can't think of anybody else.
