It has nothing to do with tactics but here you go. I alternate between this and a 4-1-4-1 depending of my mood and available players.

But anyway, you spend your time scouting young players and perhaps a few old, cheap ones for tutoring. You give 5 years contract to the youngsters so that when big clubs will inevitably come for them you can keep them even if they're unhappy. For the first few years, reaching the group stages of CL through the Champions' route will be easier than getting past the Best Placed route or even the EL playoffs. Due to your low rep, the other clubs will consistently underestimate you on the top of that. You'll get destroyed in the group stages (try to notch a win or a draw for money though). You spend all your money on your facilities and staff and nothing else. You can't attract with your rep or afford the higher quality players you'd need to progress anyway.

So this goes on for a few years until your then youngsters develop or/and you find new promising ones and you're competing for EL/CL glory. It's just pretty long, depends of the quality of the youth you find, if your scouts screw up: I at least had 2 players with less potential than advertised and had to get rid of them.

I'm not even that good at spotting youngsters because i don't scout youth competitions, but I know I have a few with great potential.

Also, you keep the players you have. Don't fucking sell them. If you're in Ukraine, Russia or Perhaps Serbia/Croatia you may be able to sell them for good money. But if you're in Slovenia with shit player values, shit wages, shit reputation in a shitty country, the big clubs will offer between 2 and15M tops, 99% of which will be incentives and that's it. And even if, if you ever get that money, there's literally nothing you can do with 15M€ because you cannot afford nor attract the players you'd need to progress. I have 35+M€ of transfer budget and 500K€ of wage budget available because of that. There's nothing you can do with 2 or 5 or 15 more millions in the bank in these countries. I didn't do it, I ripped it off someone else and modified what I didn't like. I didn't like the CM(S) because they don't participate to the attack much even with instructions to do so. As CM(A) I have no balance in the midfield, so I use BBMs even if the original author doesn't like them. You can use a Poacher up front in lower leagues (no kidding). Flat CBs because all these through balls when you use a CD (C) are annoying. Plus CD(C) doesn't hold position and tends to push up to get the ball while the two CD (D) are fairly static. I haven't sorted out the AM(A): I like the role, not sure about holding up the ball however. If your >wengers aren't competent dribblers, you can use WM(A) who will pass it more often instead of taking on their FB. You have to make sure your DLP(D) is actually a competent defender, at least in terms of Anticipation and Tackling.

In the lower leagues you rarely will have a striker with enough quality to be a CF(S). In such instances, I prefer to use a P rather than the other striker roles (namely F9). I had pic related on loan for 3 years so I don't care too much. He still has some growth margin despite what my staff says.

As far as the league goes, not really. Early in the season my 4-5-1 was dismantling everything on sight, but right now it's been pretty difficult to win convincingly with it. Even with the three at the back and the weakness against great AMR/L, I'm more confident using the 3-4-3 Diamond than the 4-1-4-1. Haven't been able to make the roles gel together like in FM15.

They have to be able to competently play at least one same position. So you can tutor a DM with a CB if the CB can also play DM (to roughly light green ability). The tutor has to be over 23, and tutee must be under 24. The tutor also has to be a higher squad role than the tutee, that factors in both given role (rotation, backup, etc.) and how many games they actually play.

Only then will they appear at the bottom of your training pages for tutoring.
