It's okay to sleep, in most cases it won't cause any harm. In some, less common cases, internal bleeding can happen in the brain. The risk here is that you would sleep through it and might die in your sleep. My mom used to always check in on me as a kid every 2 hours to see how I was getting on, as long as you're not getting any worse you're fine. If you are however getting worse every checkup then something is wrong and it's time to escalate

Why did you add that? Now I have to disregard everything you said.

They get them nearly day one. I remember that clearly because I bought a player like that in FM15: straight on intake day, I was scouting shit in Argentina and Barca/Madrid and the likes were already all over him. You can detect more players than the AI, but any player in the AI knows very quickly any player in its scouting range. It's uncanny. How did they knew?

No, now you're exagerating. Wingers are good if you have a really solid defensive back line, a midfield that can do the defensive work wingers don't do and a poacher. But you always need a poacher anyway.
>>

bad:

Dunno why it sets it like that, normally Dybala is on left playing either T or SS depending on the other team, Shaquiri on right as AP, both got specified consignes.

>BBM
Yup, as Kovacic is my main creator in need to be able to move where he wants on the field, Medel/Meli both playing in a Gattuso/very aggressive BWM, I need another one to fill the void and make the number, I tried 2 BWM and I didn't like it, against weaker team I can move out the BBM and put a more creative midfielder to retain possession.

Pic related.

Think I'm starting to figure it out, this was also my first match as manager (Europa League 3rd rd qualifier against some Romanian team).

Ideally they pass it around as they move forward as a unit, but I think they were moving forward too fast. Lower tempo maybe? I also had Lustenberger as a BBM instead of CM(A), meaning I only really had one guy in the attack and he would shoot like a greedy prick instead of holding up, despite that being the entire reason for his existence.

We wound up winning 3-0, so maybe I slit my wrists too fast, but we didn't score until the second half and genuinely looked like losing to a Romanian team at home before that.
>>
>>73896506
look at the tactical familiarity

aren't they a bottom half team? probably used to playing with a more direct style under the previous manager... not sure that's how it works given that you just started the game but i'd assume tac familiarity plays a strong role here.

shorter passing + retain possession might also cause your players to ignore passing options when they deem them to be too far away which might explain why he'd bloot instead of holding the ball up for ages

>>73896506

>>
>>73896596
I mean this year they're 5th out of 18, only out of CL qualification by GD right now.

I know the tac familiarity is poor, so I'm hopeful that's why, but I feel like my standard FM experience is:

1.Create tactic
2.Underperform
3.Maybe it's just going to take a few games?
4.Nope, still shit
5.Quit, start a new save, resign, etc.

Do you think direct passing for the target man would work better then? Was also considering going with a DLF or DF maybe.

>>73896608
Didn't they improve that this patch? Also the DM should fill some of that, and based John Brooks can handle it

>>73896654
What's a good role to give then that the players move forward AND hold? I tried that RPM as a DLP(S), for example, but he didn't do anything useful once we got out of our own half, which threw the whole thing out of whack. Maybe I just didn't give him enough time.

I didn't think about players as holders/runners though, that's a fair point that I'll have to think about going forward.

Start here.

I swore by the RPM/DLP(S) combo n FM15. The DLP(S) is there to bail the RPM out when he dribbles like an idiot but can't find someone to pass to. The both of them, like any playmaking role need players who can do shit to pass to or they'll just take long shots. I'd push higher and protect the defensive line with a DM(D). I usually prefer DM(D) to CM(D), but due to wide midfielders playing very wide and CMs very narrow, it leaves acres of space in the midfield in the defence, hence why I prefer a flat 5. The issue with it is that balls played just behind them are deadly because reasons.

On the sides, if you're not using the AML/AMR strata I prefer to customise a WM(A) role to your needs. They're not as hell bent on dribbling and crossing. Also, since you don't have a AMC, use a striker role that isn't a selfish bastard unless he's awesome at it.

It's not only setting a player as TM that will the team hoofing, it was to work with combinations of different roles.
When you set a player to a certain role it's like putting several consign together (which is why you can't assign some consign to certain role).

So saying your ST as TM you have to think about how the rest of the team will reach him (by hoofing, flanks, middle, deep, short), and also why would you want to put him as a TM. Then you have to think to he will pass the ball when he receives it.

Also you have to take in consideration the Team Shape of your tactic as the team will not react the same depending on it.

To sum it up if you want your team hoofing the ball you have to think who will be the 2-3 main hoofer and from where they will shoot.

Spend some time watching your games to find what appears strange in the movement of your players and what you want to change.
>>

You definitively can, but you'll have to raise the fluidity of your team shape if you use fewer specialists. It will increase the global creative freedom of your team, make your defensive players attack more and vice-versa. Which also means that you need players with good mentals and tekkers in order not to shit the bed when they have the ball, which you generally don't have in lower leagues. It's not impossible to do, it's just fairly harder compared to getting one good playmaker and telling everyone to give him the ball and let him handle the complex passing.

>So saying your ST as TM you have to think about how the rest of the team will reach him (by hoofing, flanks, middle, deep, short), and also why would you want to put him as a TM. Then you have to think to he will pass the ball when he receives it.

I tried to do this though, which is why I set him as a TM(S). Midfield passes to TM, TM holds ball, midfield moves up, TM passes ball to midfield, TM assumes position to play marauding midfielder/winger in on goal, recycle possession, or score a completely average goal because he's a great finisher.

I guess I don't necessarily mind that he gets the ball passed to him, I mind that he wasn't passing it back. I'm trying him as a DF now, so we'll see how it goes.
>>
>>73897019
I wasn't, thank you

>>73897022
The DF is a really different role, as he sit really lower on the field and closing to put pressure on defense or Defmidfield expecting to win the ball, even if it's on the feet of a centerback. So he will always be near an adverse player and will need to have a teamate he can reach easily (if you want him to pass the ball) or a really good cover to turn back and go to. If you have players on wings (either MR/L or AMR/L) you then need them to go near him offering solutions/possibility for him.

Think about what kind of ST you need in your tactic a more passing one of a finisher.

If your ST he's a great finisher you might not need to search to make him pass more the ball, but maybe how he can score more.
>>
>>73897237
Let's say that I really want to play a passing, possession oriented game with a 4-1-4-1 formation.

What role would you set the striker as?
>>
>>73897260
Not him, but depends of what I have and of the role of the other players. Right now I have a player who can play as a CF(S) so I use that. But as you could see in the duty pair guide, if you use a supportive striker role, you need a goalscoring threat in another position (or several other positions) or you'll be passing sideways for 90+ minutes.
>>
>>73897260
rather than thinking about what role to set your lone striker as, consider how the ball will move between members of your team giving they play their positions. moving your wide midfielders into a deeper position for crosses or a central midfielder into a deeper position for a passing route will help you get the ball to the striker more reliably
>>
>>73897311
I feel like this conflicts with advice higher in the thread which is to use an RPM/DLP(S) combo. I guess I do have Kalou, who I decided to use as a WM(A) narrow/cut inside. The lone striker is a goal scoring threat too, at least in theory, but I feel like there's no good mix between supportive in the buildup and goal scorer in the attack phase.

Either that, or my tiny brain can't work out how to fit an attacking striker into a 4-1-4-1 without surrendering more possession than I'm comfortable with.
>>
>>73897360
I know what I want. I want the team to move forward and backwards as a unit, taking their time in the attacking phase to find a worthwhile opening. In this system that I've got in my head, the striker has two duties.

1. In the build up play, facilitate the midfield's advance by providing an outlet for them. When receiving the ball, play it back to them once they've improved position.

2. In the attacking phase, provide attacking threat, either by playing players in or by taking your big strong body and forcing the ball in.

I don't feel like there's a good role for this. Is it just CF? I feel like, in that case, he wouldn't participate in the build up play like I want him to.
>>
>>73897374
By having players who are good on the ball and pressing high to get the ball back early. Like I said, the "hard" part is having the right players and doing something with the ball. Keeping it is the easy part unless your players are completely inept technically.

>>73897408
Because your midfielders have to be able to bring the ball up by passing or dribbling and can't consistently rely on your ST to do the job for them.
>>
>>73897442

Because your midfielders have to be able to bring the ball up by passing or dribbling and can't consistently rely on your ST to do the job for them.

But won't they pass to him? I guess maybe not with retain possession/shorter passing. My instinct is that he'd find himself 1 on 5 way too often, but I guess my instinct is probably shit.
>>
>>73897472
>Me in charge of greentext (or tactics)
>>
>>73897260
Depends of the role of others :^)
Here's my view of the different role but I can be wrong.
It will depends on the animation, you will have several choice between DLF, AF, P, CF,T and FN.
The AF an P would be the most finisher role: Your team got the possession put pressure and find your ST who just come to finish, he don't take a part in the creation he's just here to finish, if he fail then repeat possession.
>David Villa Barça

The DLF and the FN play with their position, but while the DFL wil try to enter later in the goal to score from the nice spot, the FN will be more about aspiring the defense creating gap for others to fill, he will then be either the last pass creator or the scorer.
>Cesc was mostly use as FN under Guardiola

The CF is a ST good in playing face and back to goal, he will roam to help creating but will also be present to finish a good movement that he might have initiated (Ibra at PSG is a good exemple as he was monopilizing a big space on field) but as he roams a lot it also means you will your team playing in very small spaces time to time.

The T will use the space in front of him to create opportunity either to shoot from far or to infiltrate in the defense. In some ways he make the inverse movement of the FN as he plays between the channel to run in front of goal while the FN will leave his position beetween CB to play between the channel by passing to teamates.
>Dybala or Pastore.

I rejects DF and TM because they rely more on a direct style which is not easy to accomodate with possession.
>>
>>73897472
>But won't they pass to him?
Why wouldn't they pass to the best option? It could be another midfielder, a winger, a FB... That's kinda the point of keeping the ball. Obviously a CF participates in the build-up and scores, but if your midfielders can't do squat but backpass when he's marked out of the game you might as well hoof it.

I seriously don't see the issue, there are plenty supportive striker roles. You can't just solely rely on the ST to score everything in a possession system.
>>
>>73897524
Yeah in possession the striker is less reliable

I posted a dude with 4 goals earlier ITT. In that game my striker didn't score but he pulled the defence away from the midfielder, letting passes go through to him.

If you're not playing counter attack/cross spam you can't have a striker exist only to score
>>
>>73897524
I definitely don't want to use the striker as the only goalscoring option. In fact, I mainly want the striker to participate in the buildup. My concern is that with an attacking role, the striker will be useless in the buildup, because anytime he gets the ball he will be 1v5 and will lose it instantly.

By 'wont they pass to him?', I mean won't they pass it to the striker that will quickly be enveloped by the opponent's central midfielders and backline, thus squandering possession? The striker in the 4-1-4-1 feels too isolated too have an attack role.

>>73897495
Not that I didn't already know most of this, but your description of a false nine made me wonder if that's what I'm looking for. Works in the buildup, but also the attack.
>>
>>73897565

>>
>>73897574

>>
>>73897565
>My concern is that with an attacking role, the striker will be useless in the buildup, because anytime he gets the ball he will be 1v5 and will lose it instantly
He'll try that only if he's stupid, which brings us back to the importance of the players you have and what they can do instead of forcing roles onto them.

>I mean won't they pass it to the striker that will quickly be enveloped by the opponent's central midfielders and backline, thus squandering possession?
If you're giving the ball straight to your striker and tell him to wait for your team, yes he's gonna have a bad time no matter what his role and duty will be. That's why possession systems tend to be rather narrow with short passing distances and often play high on the pitch with high pressing so you don't isolate your players from each other.
>>
>>73897565
To adjust this I have to mention that they are different use for the FN.
Benzema, Fabregas, Götze, Totti or Rooney all played as FN but they didn't made the exact things.

>>73897574
As he said they can try a huge amount of long shot, why? Because they will play in direction of the goal, so they will need possibility of passing, it's altough pretty effective in you want to play in a small space style "a la Guardiola" but it will need great players.

The second point is to set how you want them to close the opponant (Rooney was this warrior while Götze was a key player for Klopp in Kekenpressing)

A F9 is not a creator by his passing or technics (even if need to be good in it) but more by using the space. Because of this you can modulate him easily but it's also a very exigeant role and if he did not fit good in your animation you'are playing 10v11, as he will never be on the right place.
>>
>>73897600
>>73897565
I really gotta sleep so I have to stop here. But remember that what you see on your tactics screen is the defensive positioning of your team. It's not because on your screen there's a seemingly lonely striker that it's going to play out that way when your team actually has the ball.

Why are international players always "jaded"?

I got these guys in november, the season is in full swing, most of them played last saturday/sunday, then last friday, and now tuesday. How can so many of them be jaded or tired? A lot of them I also have at club level, and they play every week without getting tired. But when it's international football suddenly they become extremely tired and in need of a rest
>>
>>73904939
You have never watched the AI manage Intl games? These players, during summer tournaments play every two days. And they play the whole match plus extra time if required. If you watch these matches you'll notice that a lot of players hit 50% condition once past the 60th minute or so. Nevermind that the AI of the clubs does the exact same shit: they don't rotate much if at all, nevermind sending players on holidays when necessary.

I recall once CR7 playing nearly everything for Real, then the Euro, then the Olympics (no shit), then the league. Surely you think the Real manager would send him on holidays? Nooooooo of course, why would he need some rest anyway.

>DEFENDERS

>Chris Baird

>"Whenever we did cardio, he asked the coach: ‘When can we go and play football?’"

>Zdenek Grygera

>"Great guy, good friend. When he arrived at Fulham, he told the coach: ‘I don’t do weights.’ He didn’t."

>Erik Hagen

>"As a centre-back, he was a big, strong but it must have all come from his genes. Not from gym work."

>MIDFIELDERS

>Wilfried Zaha

>"Amazing physique, athletic, huge potential. Some Mondays, he’d come over to me and say: ‘I’m starting my programme now!’ He’d do five push-ups, sigh, then leave. He would have been incredible if he was serious."

>Emanuel Adebayor

>"I was marking Adebayor in midfield. Suddenly he said: ’Ah, I’m hungry.’ I replied: ‘What?’ He said: ‘I can’t wait for the game to finish. I’m so hungry. Do you know a good restaurant in London?’ At Palace, when we had strength workouts, he would sit in the gym with a cup of coffee and a muffin. He was being paid by City, Tottenham and Palace at the same time, and he was sitting in the gym drinking coffee."

>"He had penalising extra workouts. After losing one game, we got back home to Fulham at 1am. Yet he then forced us to run laps around and around between 1am and 2am. It was absurd."

>Roy Hodgson

>"When he came to Viking we realised he was a quote machine. He was funny without knowing it. He was frustrated, I mean, here is a man of the world who for some reason is in Stavanger.

>"During one of the first training sessions at Viking he got frustrated at the poor training and he said to us, but mostly to himself I think, ‘I could be in Monaco smoking a cigar but here I am, pushing myself for pocket money’.

The league system is insanely complicated.

Some highlights:
>top 6 teams after 30 games get their points halved, and enter a top 6 playoff where they each face eachother twice - making regular season wins only worth 1.5pts. A few years ago, Anderlecht won the league despite finishing 10 points behind Standard in the regular season

>7-15th finishers in 1st division play along with 2nd-4th from the 2nd division in two groups of 6 teams each. Only they don't keep their points, so there is no difference at all between finishing 7th or 15th in the league. The winners of both groups play eachother, then play the 4th placed team of the 1st division's top6. The winner goes to the European League

>you can only get promoted if you have a license - last year's champions of the 2nd division did not qualify so while they won the league, they were relegated to 3rd division and the 2nd placed team was promoted in their place. The champion of 2nd division is decided by a game between the team that won the most points in the first 16 games vs. the team that won the most points in the 2nd 16 games. There are 8 teams in the 2nd division, and each plays eachother 4 times (twice per "half-season")

>bottom 4 teams of 2nd division play eachother a couple times in a "relegation playoff". the loser gets relegated to the 3rd division. That is, if there is a club in 3rd division ready and allowed to become pro team and promote to the 2nd division

I hope this clarified some. I support Cercle Brugge myself

>Choice between Sunderland (main rival) or Gateshead (plucky Gateshead, feeder club)
>They chose Gateshead because Sunderland owed them money
>Gateshead haven't been in the football league since

I mean most people from Gateshead support Newcastle, but the older people hate Newcastle more than they hate Sunderland.

It is, there are several way of dealing with that, it also depends on country law

Irl a player can bought the rest of his contract, a mutual agreement is possible (like Evra did this week to leave Juve freely).

Getting fed up of these fucking agents and their fucking release clauses.
>>
Guys, any of you uses Exeter City?
>>
>>73908708
No, they are a gateway club. I had a friend who used Exeter City and before long he was using Man City, Chelsea and even PSG
>>
>>73908629
i found a way to get around it. It will cost you more money in wages, but its worth it if you got room to manouver there.

Basically when they accept a contract in negotiations you can make another offer before they sign, but then the release clause will be a bit higher. You have to offer them a bit more wages, but one or two ticks up usually does the trick. It takes a bit of practise to get right though so practise on people who arent essential to the team.

Then every time they accept the roof for the release clause will go up exponentially, so if you slowly double a young player's wages you will get 5-10x higher release clause.

4321 narrow is comfy

I used to always play 424 but then one year it became a really weak formation. Ever since then I largely tailor my formation to the club.

No strikerless stuff though because that feels a bit too close to exploiting the engine for my liking

I've never seen this before, is it because I sold a guy and then signed someone for much less?

It's not a 1/1 swap or anything because I sold a winger and bought an MC/AM. And the player doesn't have great match ratings.
