Today's Bowls:

Taxslayer Bowl - Penn State vs. Georgia
12:00 PM EST on ESPN

Alamo Bowl - Oregon vs. TCU
6:45 PM EST on ESPN

Liberty Bowl - Kansas State vs. Arkansas
3:20 PM EST on ESPN

Shitty bowls now that TCU qb punched a cop.

First for Ohio State and Tennessee would booty blast any team in the playoffs if they had another shot

I'm just watching football to watch football but it feels empty. There's no excitement behind it because I don't care what happens or who wins.

Who else is in the same boat? And also, wat fucking do?
>>
>>64623280
Used to do this. Find a team that is decent, maybe in your state/region, get to know their players, then move to learning the major conference opponents, then move outward from there. Shitpost about how much better your team is than other teams, even if it absolutely isnt. Also do this for your confrence, it's hilarious

>>
>>64623889
Pac 12 wins have mostly been against G5 teams besides coachless Miami, who Wazzou beat by only 6, and Iowa, though. They had some ridiculously overpowered bowl matchups against teams like fucking Southern Miss and New Mexico
>>
>>64623953
You really think they lose that game if Tim Beck had lost his playcalling responsibilities earlier in the season?
>>
Coogs should compete 4 a natty next season.
>>
>>64624087
if they beat OU next season (assuming OU takes the big12 again) and go undefeated then i could see it. they will also need a lot of other teams to fuck up down the stretch
>>
>>64623422
I find myself drawn to Michigan state for some reason but the emotional connection just isn't there.

>>64623422
Bay area CA. I fucking hate UC Berkeley with a passion so they're out of the question. I don't think I'll ever be into college football the same way as the NFL... I was born into a Raiders family, any other way just wouldn't feel right.

Is anyone watching the liberty bowl right now? What's up with the loud ass off-tone horns they're blowing on practically every play? That shit is so irritating.

>>

They most likely wouldn't, but the best team isn't always the most deserving team.
>>
>>64626559
going undefeated in the pac is a hell of a challenge tho. every game is a fucking tossup it seems
>>
>>64626421
PAC football is so fun to watch though. I enjoy watching the sport even when my team isn't playing, perhaps because I have so much context (watching cfb all my life, played a ton of NCAA).

The best way to watch college football is to just enjoy its volatile nature and unpredictability. Hunt for and try to predict the upsets week to week. The best part of the sport is not knowing what the fuck is going to happen even when a power five school plays a shitter (see Arkansas and Toledo/SCAR and citadel).
>>
>>64624152
>assuming OU takes the big12 again

This meme needs to die. The more you look at Oklahoma this year the more their conference win seems like a fluke. Baylor and TCU both suffered multiple injuries at key positions, sometimes one week after the other.

Oklahoma is going back into the middle tier after this year. Shit, at this point I think Texas Tech has a better shot at winning the Big 12 than Oklahoma. Stoops needs to go.
>>
>>64626711
With Russell Gaylor would have booty blasted the Big XII.

Oklahoma will be ahead of Texas, Okie State, TTU, Kansas State next year for sure.
Their O'Line is basically just freshmen and Mayfield and Perrine will be back. I can't see how they will "going back into the middle tier"
>>
>>64626953
Seth Russell had Baylor doing some unbelievable shit. It's always going to bug me that he got hurt. What could have been.

Speaking of, what are some of the great "What ifs" of college football? Injuries, matchups missed, failed meetings, coaching jobs not taken, that sort of thing.

Look, here's the long and short of the difference between the SEC and the Big whatever y'all are:

The stress of competing in the SEC was so much that it almost killed Meyer, made him quit one of the easiest to recruit to schools in the nation with some of the best athletic support...

And he chose to come to coach OSU.

The SEC literally broke the man, but he's fine at OSU. Think about that.

I don't think you understand how mercenary the upper levels of coaching are.

These guys don't give a flying fuck about what school they're at. Holy Hell, look at Spurrier, fucker went to coach at scar so he could play golf, then basically did as little as possible to not get fired so he could duck hunt and golf while getting a far pay check.

Meyer fucking had a breakdown because of how competitive the SEC is. He went to OSU because they pay like the SEC, but don't have an eighth the competition. Hell, go back to when he started there and find the quotes from the other coaches in the conference about how he was being unfair in recruiting. He was doing that shit the SEC way, a way that is far more competitive than any of them were used to. The big whatever is a lazy conference. It's easy to dominate by anyone who has done time at the upper levels of the SEC.this is why he is there. Once the other schools pick up the slack, he'll have his little heart palpitations again, then say he has to watch his daughter play volleyball again (who cares that she doesn't any more, it's not like he watched her before or would of she still was) and then retire because the Big whatever is the last conference that he could pull this shit at.

People like this don't change friend. He's at OSU till it gets hard. Once that happens, he checks out.

Never watched college ball, can anyone either explain to me what all these bowls mean and is there a biggest bowl that makes you better team then all other teams that have other bowls or are all the bowls equal, or tell me a synonym for bowl.
>>
>>64638125
Just fun games after the regular season that pair up teams from different conferences. One bowl is the national championship so yes, that's bigger than the others. Two other bowls work as semi-finalist bowls and the winner of those goes to the natty.

There's something of a hierarchy after that. Some bowls are historic (Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange, etc) and some have been started in the past fifteen years exclusively for corporate sponsorship (anything with a company's name for a title). The historic bowls get first pick, inviting the best or one of the best teams from two conferences, while the corporate bowls take from what's left.
>>
>>64638125
They're like post-season exhibition games to "reward" worthy teams. However they keep adding more bowls every year and now basically half of the FBS division teams get to play in one. So now they've become mostly a way for corporate sponsors to run a 4 hour long dedicated ad interspersed with 1 hour of football.

Also the later in the season the bowl games happen, the bigger the payout to the participating teams, usually. Winning a bowl doesn't mean too much except historic value in seeing rare or interesting matchups.

Let's be honest, the whole competitive edge in the SEC isn't about coaching intangibles. It's about which tacky snake oil salesmen can slip more cash and pimp out more white girls to nignogs with a sub 50 IQ. Your league's advantage is just that there are a lot of black people nearby lol.

Iowa fan here, still coping with the JUST ending to an otherwise enjoyable season.

What do you think are the odds that Iowa's program gets even better results next year? I think that 12-0 regular season, as much as I didn't want to admit it at first, was probably a once in a lifetime happening. However, a bunch of guys are returning for next year and the schedule isn't significantly worse than this year's. I'd be happy with 9-10 wins and ANY kind of bowl win.

Iowa will win 9 or ten games probably. The west is really weak. Nebraska will be better, but Wisconsin won't have a QB and just lost a great D coordinator. If you can beat them and Northwestern(lel), you'll be back in the B1G Championship game. You'll get bootyblasted by Michigan, but so many teams in the B1G are losing so much that it's hard to say wtf is gonna happen next year. The only major player from this year without significant roster attrition is Michigan, from what I can tell.

the other thing about bowls is that even the smallest bowl games have several days of activities scheduled around them in the city that they're in. They serve as an economic stimulus for tourism in the cities they are held in.

For millions of non-football fans, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day (which is just incredibly ornate floral floats)
is much more of a tradition than the football game.

With the power of 20/20 hindsight what bowl match ups would everyone have liked to see.

Personally I'd go with

>Florida vs. Baylor
Horrible Offense vs. Horrible Defense. Great Defense vs. Great Offense. Never seen more one sided teams.

>Stanford vs Ole Miss
We don't get a single PAC vs SEC match up here, yuck

>Tennessee vs. Michigan
This is what should've happened. Two former great programs on the rise again. Great storylines and we could've had a really good game between B1G and SEC.

OU will win the the conference the next two years running. Their O line and D line has a lot of NFL prototypical players coming in. No more of this getting ran over bullshit

Also literally half their coaches were first year guys.Look for OU to be at least as successful next year
>>

Next year, definitely - them and anOSU are going to be frighteningly good (so might Oklahoma and Michigan, we'll see what happens during the spring), but 86ing Spav was something that needed to happen for A&M to get on the right path. This bowl season has sucked but the natty should be fun. I'm thinking 24-20 Bama. Bama's front 7 is just so good and the line can clog holes and get pressure without blitzing. Deshaun is going to have to beat Bama through the air and a scramble or two. If Coker gets hot through the air again it might be a blowout.

They are sort of rivals football, mostly because Duke and UVA have historically bad programs, Clemson is in the other division, and ECU and SCAR are in different conferences. If NC State wasn't within 20 miles of UNC the Heels probably wouldn't give a shit about them tbqh. As it stands NC State fans are just loud as hell because the school is easier to get into, they have a large student body, and they constantly want to remind people they exist. Kind of opposite to Wake, whereas the Deacs don't care if anyone knows who they are.

He spent too much time under Heupel, OU got the better end of the deal. Murray may be a prima donna, but his daddy won't be looming over his shoulder (Stoops won't put up with that shit) and he's only 18 so he's plenty pliable and has lots of room to grow.

Although honestly from everything I've heard and read his heart is more in baseball, so he can walk onto Oklahoma's poverty baseball team and be an instant starter.
>>
>>64694920
You don't think so? Right now what's fresh on the minds with bama is the kick six, and getting beaten by Ohio State who almost didn't get in the playoffs.

A win here would erase that and cement the notion of a dynasty there. Almost a feeling that the undisputed best place to play college ball is bama. I'm not saying I feel this way, but this is definitely a plausible recruiting storyline with a win here.

tamu fan here and honestly, if OU can make murray into a stud I will never doubt stoops ever again. he and allen had attitude problems mixed with sense of entitlement since the qb position here = instant deification. i'm kinda glad we got knight because he will definitiely provide a lot of experience and leadership to a team in desperate need of an identity. 2016 will probably be shit but at least we are trying to shed the cancer manziel left us with
>>
>>64695098
Sumlin really mismanaged that situation in the worst possible way. Kevin Murray is a nobody outside of A&M so he won't get in the way of Stoops (and the rest of the team - THEY won't put up with his shit, either) breaking Murray down and rebuilding him. I'm very confident in what Stoops can do.
>>

I think that kids now see OM as a reasonable contender under Hugh
If Saban wins, the pitch won't change it will just have a newer trophy to back up the "you can win and get drafted here just look at x,y,z"
Also being able to say "Alabama has gone to the playoffs both years, but we also beat them both years.. Those two years we didnt have enough depth to stay strong the entire schedule but if you look at our last 4 classes they are much better than the 4 we had when we beat them 2 years ago, and we are only getting better"
I think that pitch along with people visiting Oxford and just signing one marquee name each class will keep our recruiting top 5-20 every year from now on

Daily reminder that the big 12 is not a real conference, and belongs in the same tier as the group of five.

Daily reminder that any big 12 team that gets handed the big 12 champion ship by default never deserves to get in over any other conference champion in the nation.

Daily reminder that the big 12 strength of schedule is even more artificially inflated than the SEC, as evidenced by their recent bowl game performances against the first decent teams they've played all year.

I'm on the track team, and they had us hand out black troy tshirts before the game to everyone who walked in. they have as many national championships as Ohio State and a better bowl record than them so why shouldn't they count but OSU does?
>>
>>64710196
First of all, no they don't. Most National champ claims are bullshit across all teams. Even a lot of BCS titles are iffy when you consider all of the controversy that happened. And B1G teams have deflated bowl records due to the fact that the conference only allowed 1 team to play in a bowl for like 50 years, and teams couldn't go to the Rose Bowl in consecutive years. This meant that the best team in the conference would often miss out on a bowl trip altogether, and the second best team would have to travel across the country and be overmatched against the best Pac 12 team, (usually USC). Tennessee's mostly been an afterthought for the majority of their history. They haven't been consistent enough to be a blueblood. Their # of conference championships, all-time win % etc reflect that. Every blueblood has at least a .700 win %.

No actual vols fan was saying this. This year the media said we could make waves, and I was like wtf i wish. Our team was so far in the fucking gutter, losing to Vandy twice, that I thought it would take Butch Jones at least 5 years to sniff the SECCG. But here we are in Year 3 and Butch Jones was one fourth down stop from winning the SEC East.

Every year since he took over the Tennessee Vols have improved. Next year is a year we don't lose a lot of personnel. If we improve next year it means we must be playing in the SECCG. So it's pretty reasonable as a Vols fan to ask, hey? Are we there yet?

That has literally nothing to do with us winning the conference next season. If you want to talk about history, I hope you enjoy being second. Anyone would be stupid to say that Michigan isn't in the perfect position to be back at the top of the B1G for the foreseeable future - we were expected to barely finish over .500 and we ended up being a borderline top 10 team in Harbaugh's first season.

I don't think a giant public school like UCLA can be a littler brother to a private school like USC

also UCLA has better academics than USC
>>
>>64743860
Kansas State
Iowa State
>>
>>64745485
To me, little brother-ness is pretty much solely determined by the relative quality of the athletic programs of the two schools. Pointing out that you have better academics would be a very little brother thing to do

but literally every little brother on the list has worse academics and is little brother to a public school

don't fuck things up with your tripfag autism

COLORADO STATE

No fuck off

that doesn't necessarily mean that academics is a determinant of little brother status

I know you are saying this because Alabama has worse academics than Auburn but don't worry Alabama is dominant enough in football and large enough that we will let it slide and make an exception for them
>>
>>64745611
I wasn't speaking on UCLA specifically. I wouldn't call UCLA a little brother to USC because like you said, they're close in football and better in everything else
>>

>MUCH better academics
I can't even tell if you're unironically being stupid or not. They're both always in the top 25 universities and are often tied (I believe they are right now according to USN), sometime SC is even higher. Really depends on what you're going to school for.
>>
honestly outside of a select handful of a schools the idea of one university having better academics than another is becoming somewhat antiquated. the quality of education a student receives depends more on the student than on the school and if anything the balance is shifting further in that direction
>>
Okay lets play the dumbass athletic/academic ranking.

Every school that shares a state with an Ivy is lil bro.

>>
>>64745893
Rich fuck ups wasting their daddy's money on film school go to USC. They are NEVER top 25 nationally in university rankings

UCLA is chalk full of STEM asians and is constantly top 3 in public schools
>>
>>64745933
>muh rankings tho
>>
>>64745933
This is pretty true, although I think you could easily still fit them into groups of 10-20 schools each. As someone who has attended a top 30 university and a "party school" outside of the top 100 the difference is night and day.
>>
>>64745965
we are talking about schools that are worse in both like NC State and Oregon State

Just stop posting before you make yourself look like even more of an idiot dude. USC is consistently recognized as being on the same level as UCLA, Cal, UNC, Wake Forest, Michigan, etc.

Right now A&M is definitely not the little brother; more like a twin. Tech is definitely the littlest brother of the bunch in Texas.

To add:
FSU
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Purdue
