For me, it's hard to gauge whether that lack of seeking humility as a virtue is a product of humans in general or our societies in this part of the world. The US is a very competitive nation, for better or worse, and having the wisdom to admit your own faults or understand your limits could be portrayed as a weakness--and often times weakness cannot be afforded when you're attempting to make something of yourself.

I'm not too sure how much genetics or instinctual motivations play into our perceptions of humility being a weakness, but I honestly feel that it's more a personal stigma than a social stigma. In other words, people avoid humility because it would force them to admit they are faulty. Hm, interesting. I have not seen as many examples of people avoiding potential partners because the partner has admitted they weren't perfect, but rather they avoid the ones who are clearly imperfect and do not acknowledge it.
Especially when it comes to the mind department - to acknowledge flaws may be an indication that the person is able to curtail them.

Though it is still uncommon for exactly as you said, I agree - it has to do with our perception of self. We equate acknowledging a fault as actualizing it rather then realizing it as existing regardless of whether or not we `own it`.

I`m personally extremely guilty of that and have a lot of trouble admitting when I don`t know something. Aaah right?! Yes. I`ve got a thing about names and at first I completely ignored the play due to his name but when I finally read it lemme tell you, oh boy. What a great antagonist, truly `fuck you`evil, just the embodiment of it.
Of course I`ve got a soft spot for the villains but then again, who doesn`t? There`s that whole integration of ones shadow aspect and whatnot, coupled with our cultures disillusionment with heroes and bam - you`re left ether wishing to be or to fuck Mephistofoles (spelling?).
Honestly though, I blame Milton for the affliction. Bastard went and took the supposed most hated villain of humanity and made him relatable - come on dude, didn`t you think about the impact on future generations?! Namely my impressionable self?!

I know that it`s a childrens series but I remember reading them growing up and I really, really hated him; Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events. He`s conceited, cruel and worst of all proudly ignorant.
I like the decadence and confidence of Hannibal, though I`ve never read the books and this is based on the shows interpretation only. I wasn`t fuckin` around when I said Satan though, Paradise Lost deserves all its acclaim.

Now from a fun standpoint, goals are to grow up to be Griffith from Berserk. I was far too obsessed with Atlas from Bioshock, still am if I let myself think too long about it. Just recently read `The Secret History` which, though unsubstantial in deeper context, has some beautiful lines and I liked how the character Henry Winter was portrayed. Obligatory J. D from Heathers - laugh it up now. Lastly, of course, Humbert from Lolita - actually you know what no, the villain here is Nabokov - how dare you make me be on his side even a little. Shit son, maybe I`m the villain for that one, yeah, fuck you nabokov for writing a book that makes the reader implicit and vaguely guilty.
