When i started high school I was an easy target. I was skinny, autistic, and semi shit-skin. But i was pretty smart. I understood that bullies wanted easy targets who didnt fight back. I also gained alot of respect for it. Which gained me a couple of close friends.

Tactical retreats are a great way to win fights man. When you're outnumbered having a positional advantage is much better than fighting and relying on your anime adrenaline to one punch all the bullies. And that retreat could be a swing and then running, or it could be just getting bullied in school and then make worth of yourself outside of school or when you grow up. My point wasn't so much that a person wouldn't get "fucked up". It was that if a kid is in the kind of environment where they can be severely bullied without the intervention of higher authorities, you can get away with hurting other kids without facing lasting punishment so long as you don't kill him or turn him into a vegetable.

OP, listen to me. I was such a child myself, who suffered some pretty severe bullying between 8 and 16 on account of a visible deformity.

I never retaliated. I expected I would mature as a person into someone who was glad that they didn't. Maybe it's my own failure that this person never materialized, but as an adult I only feel intense regret for letting the window in time during which my assailants were still accessible to me close.

Did you know most mass shooters weren't bullied? I looked into that myself in detail following the Columbine shootings. I wanted some sort of vicarious fulfillment I admit, but instead discovered the shooters were socially well regarded. Basically sociopathic bullies themselves.

The people who actually get bullied never do anything. They grow up to lead quiet little lives, contributing to society while a vast, bleeding, injury gnaws at them inside. They are just given no socially acceptable outlet for that energy, nor do they ever get justice on the specific people responsible for hurting them.

You have an opportunity. Those kids still go to his school, they haven't moved away. They are still within reach but not forever. Depending on how much you personally are willing to sacrifice for this kid, how much you love him. You can close that wound in his heart. You can prevent him from having to live with that, just by doing a little prison time.
