Can you explain why the hell you keep using the bumpbot in threads

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Thread replies: 322
Thread images: 21

Can you explain why the hell you keep using the bumpbot in threads like these:

>>1422775
>>1423185

Why do you think this shit deserves to be bumped? Turn that shit off, you retard. You're useless. We can bump everything by ourselves now.
>>
Nah, fuck off. Leave the bumpbot running, it's funny to see people trying to outpace it.

I love bumpbot; wish the board had 5 sage bots to assist it in flooding the shitty pepe and /q/ garbage off the board by making them reach bump limit faster.

If their reaction to the bot is to create and bump spam threads, that's their problem. I hope the bot continues to keep them on their toes for as long as they stay on /qa/.
>>
>>1423884
This board is full of retards what do you expect? bumping threads with almost zero discussion to stay up for weeks. All of the good threads go straight to the archive while the bumpers on both sides insist on bumping their absolute rubbish threads.
>>

I know, but some if those bumps are actually done manually by people other than the bot. (I do a few here and there and match the style: vDa, SeQ, KeK)

There really is, or at least was a spambot though. I cant pay attention to here as long as i used to so i dont know if Microsoft Security Licences guy ia still doing his thing. I hope so anyways.
>>
>>1423955
My problem? Why? I'm not the one complaining about the bot and filling in hundreds of captchas per day to keep my threads alive.

It seemed to save a lot of threads from that last spam wave. Was that not necessary or beneficial?
>>
>>1424522
No, it wasn't. If someone wanted those threads alive, they could sit here and bump them themselves. Instead someone has a bot set up to do it automatically regardless of what anyone else wants. If you think that's fine, then I don't care. I'm just saying it's a pretty inconsiderate thing to do. Spam is inconsiderate too, but you don't need a bot to save your thread from it if you actually care and/or are here.
>>
>>1424527
>if you actually care and/or are here.
But to save it manually, you have to care and be there all the time. Would it be better to shorten the list?
>>
>>1424522
PS
If you liked a thread enough you could always repost it after it gets archived.
>>
>>1424534
If you can't be bothered to sit and care about something on your own time then that should be that. Anyone can set up robots to automatically do anything. That is the death of the world. If you want it, take it. I will be here using my hands and brain to do things instead of letting machines do it for me.
>>
>>1424527
>>1424534
The bronies don't have the manpower to raid/spam the board anymore. They're just posting garbage periodically and keeping it alive through necrobumping like they were doing with the GR15 threads before. That's why the bot isn't necessary.
>>
>>1424536
True enough. Should we focus on encouraging people to do this and streamlining this process instead?
>>
>>1424126
Wrong, the total userbase of all 11 anime boards doesn't equal that of /v/, much less /b/ or /pol/. You're confusing the number of total number of anime boards with the total sitewide interest in anime, which is at an all time low.

>>1424522
I'm telling you right now that I was one of the people specifically bumping other threads only because you people had your threads on a bumpbot. The bumpbot was why we were mass bumping everything. If you were to stop, so would most of the manual bumpers.

I'm kind of skeptical about this. Especially since people are bumping threads that seem to be not things they like but rather things calculated to annoy other users.

No, I mean give the board some time to flow naturally and see what happens. Although, personally, I think it's useless. That guy is obviously full of shit: he speaks only for himself, most of the people who create and bump those threads have very obvious intentions that are unrelated to the bot. Simply use your own judgment, and also thanks for helping contain spam.
>>
>>1424652
>contain spam.
Spam in /qa/ has increased about tenfold since the installation of the bot. Fucking fantastic job it's doing there.
>>
>>1424652
Well, propaganda reasons isn't the only reason to try turning it off. There's also the quite legitimate concern that it doesn't properly reflect what the board wants to keep alive. Also, it's not like the bot hasn't been offline before and threads were saved manually. The intention of the bot is to reduce the effort of the people manually saving threads, and so it really should be discussed among the users of /qa/ what, if anything is worth auto-saving.

Those are valid concerns, but I don't know how you expect to properly discuss that when at least 30% of the people who post on this board absolutely hate it and only do so out of malice. What sort of threads would you bump if you were in charge of the bot, and how many? Also, what do you think of the idea, if the bot starts back up again, of opening the bot controls up to a few other users?
>>
>>1424686
Just make your own bot if it does not align with your tastes. What makes you think his bot even has a control panel like you probably have imagined?
>>
Also, some other reasons for a turnoff:

- I don't expect the bot to work forever. I don't know why the devs haven't made a serious effort to stop it yet, but eventually they will have to, if only because of other similar bots.
- I don't want to encourage the people who think it's a good idea to counterspam the catalog to remove frogs or other shit. We used to have threads I would have agreed with spamming out of the catalog, and we still do have some of those threads, but the difference is people have largely stopped replying to them. The frog stuff, on the other hand, is just spam. Counterspamming usually makes it worse.

>>1424691
It's my bot. And I certainly hope we don't start seeing a zillion bots, as that, if left unchecked would spell the death of not just this board but the whole of 4chan. Or maybe that would be a good thing at this point since we could move on to the next better thing. I don't know. It will probably happen eventually.
>>
>>1424686
>What sort of threads would you bump if you were in charge of the bot, and how many?
I would constantly update the list in accordance with the board's state. As for which threads, taking a quick look at the first few pages I would bump these: >>1421175 >>1384845 >>1424530 >>1419234 >>1424553 >>1408952 >>1381974 >>1420505 >>1424415 >>1423143 >>1421948 >>1419534
>Also, what do you think of the idea, if the bot starts back up again, of opening the bot controls up to a few other users?
I'm not sure how you'd manage to do this without letting it fall into the hands of spammers, raiders and other people who want this board to fall into a state of constant chaos, but regardless, I think allowing other people to use automated bumping scripts as they see fit is a terrible idea.
>>
>>1424697
Interesting. I thought of this as the alternative, but my tools are much more primitive .
I'll try out this idea when I get back to my computer.
>>
>>1424694
>I don't want to encourage the people who think it's a good idea to counterspam the catalog to remove frogs or other shit.
>just spam
These people will keep on doing their thing whether the bot is active or not. However, "just spam" seems a bit optimistic. There's a difference between having 10 garbage threads that will eventually be replaced by new ones and having 10 new garbage threads per day that get necrobumped 24/7 and eventually constitute one third of the board.
>>
>>1424681
>the bot is very successful in reducing my effort.
For my part I ignore almost any thread that I consider to have outlived its natural lifespan.

If I ran the bot it wouldn't bump any thread that didn't contain three posts in the last twenty-four hours unless a full-on raid were detected, say, 20 new threads in an hour. But even then I honestly don't fucking care. If your thread isn't worthless you can always make it again.
>>
I'll stop frogposting for a while, it's a community effort after all.
>>
>>1424697
>I'm not sure how you'd manage to do this without letting it fall into the hands of spammers, raiders and other people who want this board to fall into a state of constant chaos, but regardless, I think allowing other people to use automated bumping scripts as they see fit is a terrible idea.
The idea is that that users with a password would be able to add and remove things from the whitelists, and their access would be revoked if they used it for spam. Although supervising them might turn out to be more of an effort than this would save, I don't know.

>I would constantly update the list in accordance with the board's state.
You see, this is part of the problem, the list does need to be updated routinely, although probably not so much if I go with a shorter list. It's very tempting to try to save everything when retards come in to spam it off.
>>
>>1424701
What do you mean by "the alternative"?

My tools started out command line and still mostly are, but I've got a web server and userscript for making changes to the list.

You've mentioned running scripts before. Do you have the captcha automated?

>>1424713
Out of curiosity, what did you write it in and just how advanced is it? I was under the assumption that it was a hard-coded script you threw together in an afternoon.
>>
>>1424710
same, but I honestly don't think it will last. It won't make a difference when all it takes is one of the most reactionary weebs to think some random crossboarder is a horsefucker spammer and then start sperging out and shitposting, which in turn angers the frogposters, which in turn gets us to where we are now. You and I both can't even guarantee that other people won't make 10x as many frogposts as some kind of false flag or new spam wave.
>>
>>1424697
>What sort of threads would you bump if you were in charge of the bot

You'll soon find out.
>>
>>1424702
>There's a difference between having 10 garbage threads that will eventually be replaced by new ones and having 10 new garbage threads per day that get necrobumped 24/7 and eventually constitute one third of the board.
Even with threads being bumped off, new ones kept being made to replace them. So while I can see sniping a few on page 10 (provided the threads used to kill them are then deleted), I can't see bumping half the board in order to kill them, which it was pretty clear people were doing. That harms more than it helps.
>>
>>1424717
It's a bunch of interoperating bash scripts, refined over time as I try to improve the scripts and test out new things. I've got a personal git repository containing all of it.
>>
>>1424723
Do we have another bot user? Is the day of proliferation at hand?

>Although supervising them might turn out to be more of an effort than this would save, I don't know.
Yeah, this seems like the most probable outcome.
>>1424725
At that point it's a war of attrition, and while the bot does help in that regard, it's mainly that it's much easier to invest time and effort into a board you like than one you're trying to ruin. It's harmful, to be sure, but not as harmful as flooding.

In that case if someone starts sperging out at it, it's best to just ignore them and keep posting normally, they're only wasting their time after all, going back in full force just makes things worse as a whole. Can't really stop the fallout of someone spamming though.
>>
>>1424748

>it's okay when I do it but when they do it it's "spam"

Who are you quoting? What do "I" do?

Is it really unbelievable that they would lash out against the board being destroyed in this way? Granted, they're acting like niggers who protest police shootings by looting and burning their own neighborhood. But niggers exist, so I can believe people act like that online. They were, of course, wrong about it being the bot that was destroying the board.
>>
>>1425281
First: there is no "they", that was a single poster trying to speak for a group that obviously doesn't agree with him. Second: many of the people he claimed to represent happen to want the board to be destroyed, as per >>1425176.
>>
>>1425292
Fair enough. he. Or she or xe or whatever.
>>
>>1425292
There's no reason to believe there's a "group" either. It could be two people. Unless it's organized somewhere, nobody would know that it wasn't two people, including the people themselves.
>>
>>1425344
"Group" as in "particular set of people", not "cohesive group with a common goal".
>>
>>1425353
Well, I guess it's a matter of semantics whether he's potentially half the group he's trying to speak for or speaking for a "group" of one.
>>
>>1425353
You mean frogposters, right?

>>1425358
Why can't you people recognize the ship-fu and witch thread getting bumped right now are just as bad as inane frogs?
>>
>>1425229
>>1425231
Maybe keeping it off will help convince the guy bumping everything that it's not just "concern trolls" who are against him constantly upending the board. I've tried to tell him he's being a moron before. He doesn't listen and calls everyone who criticizes him a concern troll.
And I don't know if it's necessary. I wasn't bumping threads to fight the frogs or any such bullshit. I was doing it to protect decent threads, with the primary threat being the constant upending of the board. If he kills a few threads that way, maybe it will teach him why what he's doing is retarded. If it doesn't, then I guess we don't need the bot after all.
It all depends on whether the guy is convinceable or just a destructive troll himself.
>>1425364
We're not having this argument again. Your opinion is noted and disregarded.

Was this thread on the mass bumper's kill list or just potential collateral damage? I just had to manually save it from near the bottom of page 10.

Mass bumper get in here (or back here if you are one of >>1425161 >>1425268 >>1425280) and answer for yourself.

It's unfortunate that this thread is past bump limit, because it proved to be quite fruitful. Someone should make a discussion thread.
