Different age groups vote in wildly different numbers. Basically, old people tend to vote a lot more than young people (who can't be bothered to turn up). Young people also tend to vote left, and old people right.

Instead of reflecting this in their polls (ie, weighting the different age group samples based on typical voting behaviour), the pollsters have decided to weight the samples to the census demographics. I can't be done arguing with yanks anymore. I was having a discussion with some Americans about the Cuban missile crisis and said, in all fairness, it was the Americans fault for putting nukes in Turkey first. They then say it was worse what the Soviets did because they gave them to Cuba. I then say that well i'm sure in the minds of the soviets, the US wasn't to be trusted either. A completely roundabout argument then occurs in which I point out how america is this as bloodthirsty as everyone else and how I am not surprised the commies feared the US as much as they feared Cuba. Yet despite all of this, even after admitting that their country had done horrible things, they still considered it to be the soviets who were in the wrong.

What makes me sick is that I thought these people were well balanced enough to consider the other side, but apparently not. What the fuck is with yanks not being able to accept their country can be in the wrong, do they have some kind of mental deficiency? I thought it was just a meme but I guess I was wrong.

They blamed it on an unexpected demographic turnout, but they never bothered to ask themselves "who is likely to vote in this referendum anyway?".
