I'd recommend finding a song or songs that you like or everyone likes, and then write in your lyrics so they flow together. That's the standard if you want to write and create good music. If you just write the lyrics first, you're almost forced to record all the instruments around those lyrics and force them to fit in. It can make things a jumbled mess.

So basically, have everyone shoot some good songs that people like, or would go well with this musical, and then write the lyrics in.

If you want your musical to fly up the charts, do three things.

1. Choreograph! Choreograph! Choreograph! nothing is more offputting thing backup dancers (or main dancers) who don't have well designed steps or flub their steps.

2. Costumes! Outrageous costumes with ruffs, tufts, feathers, glitter, and sequins, for the dancers of course. This includes backup and main dancers. The more extravagantastic it is, the better.

3. Have a diverse cast of actors and actresses. It can be in the current "meaning" of diverse, but I'm specifically speaking of the older meaning, red heads, different eye colors, different heights and weights, different races if applicable.
