Excellent summary, but I disagree that they've been caught worse than this before. There is a tendency when one grasps something very bad, to want to let the mind go and regress. Just like if your life is suddenly endangered, there is a certain desire to just shut off your survival reflexes.

In actuality, these people aren't everyone. They are a significant portion of every government, they infest all power structures, but that's it. It's no more and no less.
