Hey yall, looking for an older tahoe/suburban with a 4k max budget, anything I should be looking out for?
>>
>>17658928
A few issues around. The Suburbans are pretty reliable (engine dependent) so you just have random things that break down and are pretty easy fixes. They just take a lot of time, of course.

With $4k, prepare to sink in $1k in repairs over the next few months as things just rear their head. Better than the $1k suburbans that people spend $4k getting up to speed, desu.

So I just bought this '93 turbo wagon with a blown head gasket. Pulled the head, and decked it at my shop, taking it down 20thou, and did a full head job (valve job, porting, etc.).

The goal is to make it an overlander/prerunner. I have a welder buddy that works at 4wheelparts extending the front shock tubes, and I found some cherokee front springs for the rear end. Debating making the shock tubes even longer, and putting the grand cherokee spring pucks in the rear for more lift.

I haven't decided on the tires I'll be running, any recommendations for good at/mt tires that come in 15's?
>>
>>17660689
>vulva oberlander

>>
>>17660689
I'm not sure the underlying drivetrain will be able to handle more than 2 or 3 inches of lift. You're going to mess around with the angles and wreck a few things if you put it under harder stress than is normally given.

The volvo is a good car by itself. Why not drive that to save gas as a daily and start a new from an old single cab pickup instead?

I already have an old single cab. Volvo turbo motor, high comp pistons, T5 world class tranny.

I wanted to build a ridiculous overlander, not a good one.

What's the cheapest and best gas mileage 4x4 I can pick up? Cursory research leads me to something like a geo tracker or suzuki samurai or jeep comanche/cherokee. I don't necessarily need something to climb rocks and up mountains, but just safely go off road.
>>
>>17664314
What do you want it for?
>>
>>17665023
Driving on gravel and dirt trails, dry or wet, driving offroad up to lakes or camping areas. Like I said, doesn't need to be a trail master getting in and out of pools and ditches and up rock walls, just decently robust. I already know both my cars will get stuck trying to do this.
>>
>>17665023
>>17665057
Forgot to add, DD-able. If I found a decent 4x4 near me, I'd probably sell a car and replace it with the 4x4. I was looking at the geo tracker or jeep comanche for instance because it doesn't look out of place as a DD, but I imagine it could get me decently /out/. Also relatively cheap it seems.

Get an old TJ. They can be found at the same price if they have a well done lift kit on them. Then buy yourself an offroad trailer (just a trailer with large wheels)

Can subaru Baja go off roading? AWD is really only useful for racing, right?
>>
>>17671359
14'ish
>>
>>17672475
Why is AWD only good for racing?
AWD is good for a lot of occasional offroading and nothing with large rocks and stuff
>>
>>17672761
Well, I guess I should have clarified. AWD in my experience really stomps the competition at rally races, which are offroad, so... I played myself with this one. But that does answer my question, I guess a Subaru Baja with a little lift to it could do some offroading as long as it doesn't have to crawl rocks, which I don't do anyways. Plus TURBO BOXER and a decent DD.

Anyone know if they fit into the "subaru family?" By which I mean, so many parts between models are pretty interchangeable, dunno about the light truck though.
>>
>>17672927
You risk being a r/battlewagon meme but I'd do it if you want something small and compact that you can occasionally offroad.

Just don't do the offroad mods of rice that (((battlewagons))) are known for.
>>
>>17672927
The Subaru Baja is the same as an outback of the same year which is the same as a Legacy, so most parts are interchange between the three

So basically any lift compatible for an outback is also going to fit onto your Baja. Subaru also uses the same bolt pattern for their brakes across all platforms, so you can probably fit WRX pads and rotors if you want to

Baja anon back again - my prospective vehicles are a 2005, 5 speed Baja and a 1999, 5 speed, 4 cylinder (I think) 4x4 Tacoma. 4500 usd and 5000 usd respectively. What seems like the better option for a mix of DD and ORG?
>>
>>17674807
4x4 Taco will destroy gas and will be pretty uncomfortable but is better than the Baja for offroading. Baja will be much more comfortable, newer, better on insurance, but will be much less forgiving if you accidentally drive over a rock larger than you'd think or accidentally hit a tree.

Ever consider an SUV with a frame?

What're you getting?

Selling my 31's next week to make room & get some money for the 35's I plan on putting on next year. I asked my local dealer about what 35's he can supply and what they'd cost, and for a set of Toyo Open Country MT's (same as I have now in 31) it was $1050, mounted and balanced with new valves; a damned good deal for norwegian prices

Next winter I'll probably bite the bullet and get a set of Goodyear Wrangler Dutratracs as winter tires and put some overkill studs into them... still, they're fucking expensive tires

Oh since I'm here. I've been looking up the hyploid gear oil in 5 or 20 litre drums for my Land Cruiser and can't seem to find them anywhere besides mobil certified dealerships. They sell them by the 1 quart (0.946 litres) for something ludicrous like $22 each. Where did you get your hyploid? I'm planning on taking the Land Cruiser up to Northern Ontario for a month in winter (if work works out) so operating in -30 degrees will benefit from some better gear oil if stuck in snow.

Is your vehicle 2 or 4wd? Do what I did with my old chevy 'lorado. Chain the two spinning tyres while operating Michelin streeters. How are pre-current hiluxes for comfort? Tacomas used to kill your kidneys.
Duratracs work but what is wrong with KO2 (or even KOs) or cheap Coopers if you're not concerned about comfort? Duratracs are odd since they don't bubble out at the side walls as much but the modern ones fixed that with their "D" rated sidewalls.

I'm running standard transmission oil on my diffs, no hypoid - but I do have a buddy who runs it on his offroaders

He says its more important to have during summer due to how hypoid oil isn't as effected by the heat, and maintains its lubricating effects through much higher temperatures

I mean, you can easily overheat the oil on your diff in winter aswell, but for obvious reasons its a smaller issue then

Its 4WD - 2WD pickups that aren't 40 year old garage queens are extremely rare here, for reasons that are probably obvious. As for comfort; some people drive these things and think they're terrible, while others like me drive them and find them to be fantastically comfortable... its probably because I'm young and in good health; I don't think about the stiffer ride, the bumps in the road and so on

As for why Duratracs; they get good reviews for winter conditions, have stud holes from te factory, decently aggresive siping, and slightly more aggresive thread than other tires

I could probably go full retard and get a set of these, put some tractor studs in them and
spend a day hand-siping them, but unsure if they'd even then be safe to use on the winter roads

Not positive about the trim package. It was V6 manual 4WD, but it had an unpainted front bumper and flares. Had a brand new frame replaced by Toyota, brand new spray on bed liner, and the interior looked perfect. He had it listed for $5,000 but said he sold it for $2500. There were a few Porsches and stuff in his driveway in the background, so I'm assuming he let it go cheap because he didn't care too much about the money. I'm really pissed at myself right now.

You're more or less right about that. I just went to check under my Land Cruiser and saw that the rubber had broken down on the breather tubes. Checked it with my finger and it was milky green from the thunderstorms a while back. Whoops. Ran to Cambodian Tyre and got 5 litres of diff fluid and am draining it now. Just started to rain so I tarped it and will leave it for the morning.

I guess hypoid will have to wait. I was more going to switch to hypoid because then I would care more about my diff breathers but also so that it can deal with -40 weather that suddenly heats up the gears to +40 in 3 minute tops. Grinding through tough snow is really hard on SAS interiors as well.

I'd get the studs if they don't salt the roads. People do tyre changes every year and studding / not studding them twice a year won't be that hard as well.

Duratracs aren't THAT good off road. They're mid tier and take well to deflation. MT Kevlars are what the Jeeps around here run despite goodyear being a shit.

I have been looking at the Maxxis M8060, MT Baja Claw and IROK Super Swampers. The Maxxis ones are quite expensive, one of the local shops are MT-dealers but haven't got back to me on the price yet, and the IROK Super Swampers are also damned expensive

I probably will just buy the damned Duratracs - if I was gonna use them purely as an offroad deep snow tire I'd get an actual mud-terrain aind modify it, but I still want to maintain some level of on-road performance

Military surplus; nah. There are sometimes stacks of used tires and wheels being sold on military auctions when they clean store or shut down a camp, but they are either big truck tires or standard tires for the MB G-Class we use, which are quite small all-terrain(ish)s

tracks are horrible. heavy, complicated, expensive, will break down and will ruin your vehicle.

Yes. Yes they will. I spent 36 hours innawoods with a guy fixing his tracks last winter.

But they are hands down the best for pondskimming and bringing your vehicle ice fishing.

>>17685613
>>17685616
Get tracks and sell me your light bar. After the iceland trip, is it worth paying $4000 round trip to ship my Land Cruiser to France and drive it around Scandanavia? Are there Finnish winter trails to drive there / mountains for a month? Thinking of doing that in 2 years once I'm on 35s or 38s.
>>
>>17685786
Fuck if I know, but I would be surprised if there werent good areas to drive in Finland

As for worth it; who knows. You might run into problems as its a non-European vehicle, you'd hate the gas prices and the local regulations regarding offroad legality vary extremely
>>
What offroad vehicle has the best gas mileage? Is it diesel?
>>
>>17685900
yeah
>>
>>17685959
So can I get an offroad diesel that wouldn't look TOO out of place on regular roads? IE not a gigantic truck?
>>
>>17685992
Nope. It's impossible. Best to find a new flavor of the month hobby to look into.
>>
>>17686009
NO. I WANT THE PERFECT VEHICLE AND I KNOW YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS.

Idk I usually use my Honda xr when I go /out/ but I'm getting to break into the winter months without breaking the bank. That means I need something to carry some extra stuff, I was thinking jeep but that's not really XC material
>>
>>17685900
Pretty much everything from the 70's-90's with a 4 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel or even gas engine, manual trans, and a wheel base that's shorter than 100 inches gets somewhere around 20MPG. First gen Chevy/Geo/Suzuki Trackers are good too.
>>
>>17685992
yeah that should be possible

I won't be too concerned about gas mileage come next week. I'm starting the OM617 swap into the Land Cruiser and already bought the adapter to the transmission. Have both engine mounts and am going to try and figure something out to place it as far as I can.

FomJ80. 26 highway MPG. Can't wait.

Saw a 1st gen hilux on the road today without a spot of rust. Some Quebecois who drove it up from Arizona and running a 3 inch lift and 35s. How is driving a Hilux in northern gas prices up there? Iceland was also awful for gas mileage... I wonder how those people with FJ150s on 42 inch tyres even afford that.

That may be true most of the time but being poorfag accessible is helpful for new people to this sport. Especially if they're able to daily drive it. Plus not everyone wants to wheel hard. A lot of people just like to occasionally go off the logging roads from time to time.

MPGs also add to range and depending on if you overland, it will be very helpful to have a good idling gas mileage (or consumption per unit time) especially in the winter.

So I'm planning on converting my truck to coilovers.
Its torsion front and leaf rear, but later models had struts in front that should accept coilovers fine.

My plan is to:
Solid mount all body mounts.
build exo-cage, mostly to mount the coilovers.
Lots of underhood strengthening.
3 link with Watts in rear, mostly to keep the stock gas tank.

Am I going the right way here? It makes sense to me, but meh.

try looking around south quebec. a lot of land crusiers up there and they're all 20% off due to the conversion rate. i'd recommend getting a 70 if you can, though.

I'd also recommend importing if you have a bit more to spend on a cleaner, fresher one. europe besides GB should have plenty of left hand drives

The ones in Ontario are a lot cleaner for some weird reason. There are a lot of Land Cruiser people here who just like to keep their vehicles stock which is something I respect.

Not sure if it'd be easier but it would be cheaper since there are a large population of Quebec who uses Land Cruisers as daily drivers. They pop up on Kijiji / Craigslist way too often with some surface rust (muh east coast rust and whatever). You'd also have to settle for the miles on the speedometer to be in small numbers instead of big numbers.

70s are more capable offroad and have tougher differentials. They're less comfortable but a lot more utilitarian. That's not to say that the FJ60s aren't capable, of course. Depends if you want to offroad or overland.

You in any OF4WD clubs, broski?

Just got double sealed doors and can remove the carpetting. This year's consession trails are way too muddy for my Truck unfortunately. I'm up there this Sunday to take a grill shooting, lo
>>
>>17696097
Yeah I pay the yearly OF4WD membership fee but I'm not really in any clubs per-say, I just tag along on runs with other groups and wheel. Concession lake water levels were around 33-37" of water when we were there on saturday.
>>
>>17696118
Of4wd manages al the clubs. Then there are regional specific ones that may or may not charge extra fees like London Jeep club, Ottawa -Gat, north bay wheelers, etc.

Did you hit any other trails since you travelled that far?
>>
>>17696208
They don't really manage any of the clubs. Clubs can sign on under their 'umbrella' so to say and get the perks they offer but they more so act as an intermediary between wheelers and the government to lobby to keep trails open, maintain them and spread awareness of the tread lightly concept.

We spend about 6 hours at each trail, and we stayed at Southwind motel and hit up the trails in the back there at night.

Yeah I guess that explains the club management site they have. Tread lightly is really something that people need to learn. Also, did you see that guy the other day who was stuck in his Colorado on Concession asking for help? He went onto the trail with no recovery items by himself and frantically asked people for help towing him out.

Anyway, if you're already in south wind, next time, head up to North Bay with me and overland near the rockies. It's a minimum 2 day excursion but I go up there often for work so I try to time the 1 day of work with 2-4 days off so I can just hoon around. Overlanding up there is really nice and once the horseflies die down, you can set up camp almost anywhere on the crown land.

South Wind was horrid this year, though. No IFS allowed from the giant rocks and tree branches everywhere. and when you get stuck at night, working with the mosquitos is a PAIN.

A couple of us are talking about doing a trip to Ardbeg before the year closes, I still gotta fix my jeep up a bit and order new tires. Took some sidewall damage on Concession, its not too bad but this thing is my daily driver, good excuse to go to 37s just need to decide which ones. I'm really impressed with my General Grabber AT2s but the biggest they have is 35s so I might like to try the General Grabber X3.

Southwind was packed as hell this weekend, there was something like 50+ jeeps plus all the atvs, so we just ran it at night, went elsewhere during the day. Trails are tight as hell back there, the S10 and Tacoma that were with us had an especially hard time getting around some spots.

I saw the post with the Jeep that was stuck on a rock in Concession last week but not the Colorado. Anyone that does that shit alone is an utter moron. We actually had a Colorado with us on our first run and his truck was wicked, 6" lift with 35s, rear locker, on board air, custom sliders and bumpers it did really well, same with the S10

North of North Bay, some "trails" are open year round. By open, I mean there are so few cars on the crown land ATV cuts that they snowmobilers don't mind if they see an occasional truck and there's no explicit exception against them. You just have to watch out for thin ice hiding under the 2ft of snow that may eat your vehicle. Follow the path and the trees.

I like General Grabbers but on road is slightly less pleasant. The small group of people I'm with frequently use the MT Kevlars or just aftermarket KO2s.

I ran the trails for giggles at the height of the rainy season (date stamped on the image) and did it fine. Got stuck maybe twice. This was on a long wheelbased Land Cruiser on 33s. Did you have much issue climbing the hill after the small river crossing? There's this 3ft rock at the top of the hill that was the only thing that gave me trouble.

Ran ardbeg 3 weeks ago and it's also really muddy. Getting better now but the mozzies are still in full swing. Much easier than south wind, though.

The one with the V-notch? I had a brief issue with the line I picked and went sliding into the rock on the right side but my sliders took it like a champ and after adjusting I went up over it no problem, other then that I had no real issues climbing on the entire trail.

There was a guy in a rubicon 4door that tried to do it just before me in 4-hi and just smoked the hell out of his clutch. I was wondering how the hell my sport was walking all over things while the rubi was stuggling, he had it in 4hi the whole time till I looked in and told him to put it into 4lo, after that no issues.. I seriously thought we were going to have to drag this 4 door out of the trails along with his wife and two young kids. Noob wheelers... One of the risks of joining in on random groups, most are solid wheelers but theres occasionally that one guy that 'knows' everything.

I think it's the one right after where you took that picture. A bit further innatrail. You have to climb this 3ft rock then fit through this tree that's just around the width of a unimog. Apparently there was a unimog that came through one day and it had to turn around when it got wedged between there. My running boards took the hits pretty well, too, funny enough.

A lot of four door jeeps going through the trails. I normally go with a guy on 34s and he could climb the 3m (10ft) rock entrance without issue. I don't think you'd need anything more than 35s (in Ontario at least).

Also, not that big of a deal with joining random groups. You meet new people and recovery can be fun if you're not the one that continuously gets pulled out. So long as they're not too cocky and think they "know" everything as you put it. I don't mind dragging along an S-10 or smol SUV like i have before

If you're 500 klicks out, are you all the way down west of Toronto? Or more towards Ottawa? I'm headed north of Kaladar / Perth this weekend for a camping expenditure depending on a friend.
>>
>>17697143
There was one like that but it had a tree cut down on the left to make it easier to get through. I don't mind joining random runs it keeps it interesting, I pulled out the rubi and the tacoma on concession lake hah.

I'm way down by the border in Sarnia. Quite the trek for a weekend so I was really glad to hit up the trails we did. We were planning on doing Crystal lake as well but it ended up getting too late in the day to start another trail so we headed back to camp. I'd like to hit up the trails more often but its sometimes hard to get the time to go up there.
>>
>>17697359
Ouch. That's one thing I've always wondered with the London Jeep club. I've seen them twice in the Minden area and it's odd that they do a full 5 hours of driving just to do the trails around Minden. Reassuring, though.

You can also do a two day overland trek through Owen Sound (and make it 4-5 days if you take the ferry over to Manny Island).

Friend of mine just bought a 5ton M925 across the border from you in Detroit. If I'm ever down there, he's game to go camping / shooping / running up until his kid arrives. How much autismos /k/ larping do you do / are you comfortable with?

I monged up the front end in a deep waterpit in Owen Sound. Mudding is more a chore now, eh? I don't mind it too much since my vehicles get dirty every 2 week, lol. But the little electrical nightmares still crawl up on you.

Take the ferry to Manitoulin island. Good stuff there once you get off, too.

What's the general consensus on the Chrysler 8.25 rear? Jeeps got the 8.25 in the rear and I'm GUESSING the Dana 30 up front. It's a 98 Cherokee sport 2 door.

Buy a battery operated tyre inflator and air down to 10PSI every time you need to go through mud or snow. Duratrac can do it.

It's not terrible, I've broken a few after welding the spider gears, they don't like binding

I've never been a fan of tiny axles like the 8.25, d30 or d35 but they seem to hold up fine on stock-ish Jeep's so I'd run it till you start breaking shit then do a Chrysler 9.25 rear and d44 front

Toyota is 4k and minty fresh, dodge is 2k and needs a little interior work and the clear coat is peeling, both are rust free. I'm leaning towards dodge because of the price break but the toyota 22re is supposed to be unbeatable.

>>
>>17711395
Just woke up and posted that. I forgot where Gravenhurst was despite being there just last week lel. Yeah the trail system is really complex there and there are some more hidden ones not listed on OF4WD just east of Gravenhurst (30 min drive). The highest concentration of them are just north (20 min) of Minden around the Pine Springs area. So that should be just under an hour drive from you. The only problem is that it's keen mozzie territory due to swamps and bogs and bogpilled mozzies.

This year has seen 3ft water pits that used to be 1ft. Muddy terrain has turned into 2 ft water pits and the only reason I managed to get across one area was because a beaver built a dam to keep some of the water off the trails (bless them).

It'd be suicidal to go in your S-10 considering it's all rock>water>rock>water. There are a bunch of fire trails and ATV cut offs, though. I overlanded there for 3 days at the height of the rainy season going to North Bay so you should be able to hit the trails for a day if you have at least two backup vehicles pulling and dragging you along.

Remember that prevention is easier to swallow than a cure.
>>
>>17712101
The mint toyota I was surprised by because in in the rust belt. I was hoping to use one of them as dd with the ability to go off road, I think the Dakota may be the answer though

Duratracs are shit, I've gone out with a bunch of people that have all said the same thing. Was gunna get a set for myself but the constant negative review from wheelers turned me off. Weak sidewalls and poor grip on the rocks they grumbled.

I run the same tire all year round, general grabber at2s and they were amazing on the run I went on last weekend. Aired down at 15psi, it climbed everything I pointed the Jeep at. For an near identical BFG AT clone at a cheaper price, they are a worthy tire. They suck in thick mud though, can't self clean worth a damn.

Pretty easy. Follow the diagrams and you should be fine. They say you have to dismantle the brake callipers but you don't.

As the raging faggot pointed out >>17715136, cone washers will be the bane of the existence 4 u. Cone washers and that ring clamp right when you take off the dust cover. Also make sure to be very, VERY careful when you remove the cage and axle and even more careful when you slot it back in. Whil eyou're at it, lock the front diff and remove the third to check the gears are otay. You might as well.

2.5 tubes of moly based grease for each axle and a whole can of brake cleaner. Don't wear any clothes that you value because hecc gear axle

>>17715418
Couple I rode trails with had a Libertay for a bit. It was a reliable and comfortable vehicle with decent articulation. Apparently Jeep knew how to make their on road SUVs offroad capable back then as well. But don't expect it to do hard rocks.

Very. Try and find the FX4 package as those pre-placed side "steps" and skid plates are all you need for undercarriage protection.

Also try and find one after 2007 so you don't encounter some SOHC time bombs.

>>17717528
Good for snow and mud, great for on road. Not rock climbing wheels as you pointed out, though.

They've fixed their side walling issues by quietly releasing a "D" walled Duratrac. But rock climbing kinda suffers which I am okay with since I've got two long wheelbased vehicles and hate rocks no matter what :^)

>>17716742
I'm in the market for a Defender 90 or 110 mainly for on road driving for 3 months then sell the thing. It has to be pre-1992, though and maybe then I'd get a newer BJ73 or 11-seater 76.

>>17717528
Well, I would be using them as winter tires, not summer - and as such they'd only see ice and snow, and the occascional asphalt whenever I went south to where its warmer and they salt

Still, its looking more and more like I'll be going for Hakkapeliitta LT2's - I mean, they're used by Arctic Trucks on their 35-inch conversions, and that gives me faith in them.

The price is $470 per tire for the Duratracs (without studs), and $690 per tire for the LT2s - sure, its a bit of a difference, but I don't mind spending on good tires, and nobody said offroading was a cheap hobby

Why not? Check actuator, placement switch, and the gear system itself.
First thing you should do is take a volt meter and measure the connexions when you switch it on and off. Where are you located? If you're in the middle east, the pieces are available almost everywhere for some weird reason.

The third is the front differential housing.

BLG is faggot. That's all you need to know.

Oooof, Christ... What size are they for that amount of coin? I spent around $250cdn a tire for my 35s after a rebate and I'll probably end up paying around 400 each for 37" grabber x3s if I can find somewhere thats got em stocked.

What's it made out of? How big? Rebar reinforced? How's security wherever this statue is? you could just throw a strap around it and floor it to about 30 mph and you're guaranteed to fuck it up somehow.

Just a general question. Like say a 6ft tall bronze or stone statue. Don't want to fuck up my ride.

It's never just moly grease, it's always diff oil. Moly also always gets back into diff housing and contaminates diff oil. It's actually failure of inner seals not the outer knuckle ones.

>>17720447

I don't have a ford, I live in yurop and there are no ford trucks here.

I just wanted to point out that there's something wrong in the way toyota design their seals. Every toyota I had leaked from front axle. Also had super old suzukis and nissans and never had such problems.

Btw this is ony my hiloox. I won't be doing anything about it, just change diff oil/grease the thing more regularly.

You might. If your vehicle is a taco / 4runner in that picture. Flooring it at 30 would probably rip a few things off your vehicle but you could do it with the statue.

Is that a solid ball on your Hilux?

There are two issues that go into the seals on the solid front axles. One of them is the buffer seal WITHIN the axle itself and the other one is the ring on the inside before the cage. That ring is very, very important and a lot of people who bring it to mechanics don't know how to seal it properly. These are one of the cases where you are much, much better doing it yourself and following the run on ih8mud.

The previous owner of my 80 added like half a tube of grease to my axles and didn't add the last seal in properly to the point where the axle itself was being lubed by oil. However, you are right. To have one seal hold back all the oil is a pretty bad design issue on these knuckles.

Your outer seal seems to be rotting away, too.

Both. And memories, desu. She represents a comfy part of my life when I'd drive qts home and we'd put on a taytay album, only get through 30-40 minutes, and have her singing one of the lines of a song we just listened to throughout the night as we just chilled into 2am. Or go camping and listen to nothing but 7 hours of swizzy and drone metal.
This summer has been a lot of both.

He turned the knob to the left, the tried to turn and drive until they disengaged.

Would a 2017 SR Tacoma 2.7l 4x4 make for a decent DD/"overlander". I mean just like basic trails and camping and shit?

If you put it on lifts and throw a soft fairlead winch in, it's a very, very good overlander. Overland Canada has a 2015 4x4 Tacoma with a RTT and only 3 inch lift which does great in river crossings and technical paths. It also looks pretty stock too which is good for daily driving.

Or you can spend the extra bit and get the Ram Rebel stock that is trail ready right off the freight container.
>>
>>17727192
Would the lack of power compared to the V6 from the 2.7l be a problem though?
>>
>>17727221
It's in the gearing, not the engine.

See: first generation 4runner pushing 120 HP or something. M35As weighing 3 ton and having a 200 something HP engine.
