honda accord sedan 2005.jpg
8KB, 287x175px
Hey /o/ Just got this honda 2005 accord sedan for $7000. Had a new battery, new tires, no problems with the body, the engine, everything pretty much worked fine. only had about 74,000 miles on it. And had only two owners; and both took good care of it. So for the price and with the info i've given is this a good car for just starting out?

does anyone have tips for removing a stubborn cv axle this is my first time changing one of these and I'm having trouble removing the ball joint with a pickle fork (I beat up the boot pretty bad). The inner cv joint on the passenger side has no boot because it popped off when my axle snapped. Ive tried prying it off but it wont budge. Should I just keep prying and spinning the inner cv axle with some pb blaster and hope it eventually come out or cop a slide hammer. I have not been prying for that long. Will autozones and other stores have ball joint pushers and cv axle pullers?

https://m.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/steering/3-4-quarter-inch-forged-ball-joint-separator-99849.html

This will get that ball joint loose. Make it fairly tight, then hit the knuckle with a big hammer and it'll pop off. As for the axle, you want to do quick hard prying movements with a pry bar between the axle and the transmission. This video helped me do my first axle replacement. I've done at least four using this method.

I'm looking at getting an older Honda to git gud at manual, and as a fun backup car since Hondas have always seemed pretty stronk.
Should I go for a Prelude or Civic, and what are good years for them? Budget's $2.5k.
I'm not much for the Accord because I already owned a '96 for a while and my 'tism won't let me get the same car twice.
>>
>>17651303
Good Preludes usually sell for more than that but you should be able to find a good fifth or sixth gen Civic for that money. Maybe a fourth gen too.

Looking to get my first car, 95-00 Civic, to start learning how to work on cars and eventually modify to autocross. Is their really any difference between coupes and sedans? Sedans are just so much cheaper near me but I feel like the coupe will be faster and generally better to modify for later on racing. Thoughts?
>>
>>17651757
If you're in the US buying stock examples, they're not really that different at all. Every single 90's Civic was SOHC aside from the 99-00 Si coupe that had a B16A2 DOHC. You have some special MPG beast examples with 1.5L ones but that's it.
Sedans, coupes, and hatchbacks generally all share the same parts.
>>
>>17651757
Coupes and hatches share more parts with each other than the sedan with either. Sedan is heavier and longer wheel base so it's not the best choice for auto x.
>>
>>17649673
how
>>
>>17651791
Thanks for the input. I did not know the sedan was heavier I heard they were the same weight? And i did not know that they were longer then the coupes. If that is the case then i will definitely look more for coupes. Im not interested in hatches because they are overpriced in my area.
>>
>>17651826
Coupes should be more common I believe. I do know that while the sedan is the longest one, it's only 2/10 of an inch longer.

Regardless, they all have the same engine bays so you can do whatever you want there no matter what model you pick up.

I also go to similar lengths to prevent my car getting stolen. As it is, you don't even need a key to turn the car on. The cylinder is fucked. I've also thought about disconnecting the fuse box, and taking it along, for example, around a neighborhood you're not familiar with. Lol

My EK with a D15 has 227k miles. Shit breaks every now and then but nothing too major. In the past two years I've had 2 radiator hose break, the top of the radiator cracked (had to have it welded back together), distributor failure, and the transmission acted up for a little bit (fixed it by changing the oil and filters).

If the previous owner was good with cars and maintained it well then it shouldn't be too bad. Test drive it before you buy it and be sure to check everything.

I live in Illinois. They use salt and the salt can easily scratch your hood and rust it. My current hood right now is rusting at the front.
For my next daily I'm definitely going to get something to protect the hood paint. I'll probably get a wind deflector instead of a hood bra since it looks better.

Yeah the rebuild calipers from VatoZone are all OEM anyway and I've never had issues with them. Duralast Gold pads are more than enough for my car, too.

I used to buy cheap shitty Autozone parts, but then after ripping through 2 sets of inner and outer tie rods in less than 10k miles (nothing else was causing the problem, it was purely shit tie rods) I don't anymore. I either buy aftermarket parts that I can confirm come from the same place as OEM or buy OEM parts, buying one set of OEM tie rods that last 100k comes out cheaper than buying 10 sets of Autozone tie rods that last 10k miles each.

Brakes can easily kill you if they fail, sure the cheap pads and rotors are one thing, but seals, hoses, and a master cylinder? Fuck no, those are critical components, I'm not buying the cheap shit.
>>
>>17660520
I've had good experiences with Moog for tie rods and ball joints. The only time I regretted buying cheap was a wheel bearing. A Duralast wheel bearing went out way too quick so I stick to OEM for that. Only premature part failure I've had and I've done well over 60k miles in two and a half years.
>>
>>17657666
The only time you see a hood bra is when the hood is fucked up underneath. Putting those things on a car in good condition is a fucking travesty, dirt and debris gets underneath and slowly wears away at the finish, until one day you take it off and realize the paint under it is way more fucked up than everywhere else and a different color due to less sun exposure.
>>
>>17660543
Wheel bearings are, oddly enough, an example of something I buy aftermarket. For my Integra the Timken front wheel bearing is a repackaged Japan-made Koyo bearing that is the exact same part sold by Acura, just half the price.
>>
>>17660570
Ah yeah that's what I got was Timken since it's labeled Koyo on the bearing itself. Still a pricey fix though since it's a press in bearing and not a bolt in.

>>17660583
I was quoted something like $800 in labor to do the front wheel bearings and ball joints so I ended up doing it myself, I probably spent 8-10 hours on it over the course of a weekend.

I used a 4 pound hammer and an impact socket to beat the hub out of the bearing, then beat the bearing out of the knuckle with a huge washer and an impact socket.

To put it back together I bought a huge 1" bolt that was about 6" long and a bunch of giant washers ranging from 2" OD to 4" OD. I used that coupled with a 1200lbft pneumatic impact gun to put the bearing back into the knuckle, then again to push the hub back into the bearing.
>>
>>17660672
Damn that's some crazy labor costs. What I did was take the knuckle out then drop that plus the new bearing off at a local shop which only charges me $40 to press it for me.

No access to air tools so it seems to be the most cost effective method. Luckily the rears seem to be bolt in but I've had no signs of those failing anytime soon.

>goes into first gear alright, but can hear the clutch still rubbing slightly against the flywheel

could it be anything besides air in the clutch line?

clutch still has plenty of meat on it, throw out bearing is basically brand new

Well not all of us aren't facing annoying issues of depression and lethargy
>>
White 2002 EP3 is RIP.

Traded it for something that I will take photos of and post tomorrow ^_^

So far I've owned
- 2009 TSX
- 1990 Honda Civic DX
- 2002 Honda Civic Si
Now:
- 1997 . ? ? ? >< ?< ?>< >?? ??

all you gotta do is hit the connection spots with a soldering iron to reflow them. they get fragile after getting hot and break, but you can just remelt and its good to go
>>
What are the best all weather floormats for my honda? Weathertech? Honda brand ones? Any recommendations?
>>
>>17670713
I gave the connections a quick glimpse and didn't see anything that could be broken. The pins that go into the plug looked pretty clean, too. If it keeps happening I can get a spare from my buddy and see if that does anything.

Whats up /o/ just found and bought a cl gem for 1300 that makes me want to join the club. 2004 tsx no rust no leaks kentucky car, only issue is needs a control arm. I have put 5k miles on it and is still surreal as to my luck. Bought it with 245k miles garage kept howd i do /hg/ vape on trunk
>>
Will post pics and details tomorrow
>>
>>17670899
If the engine is still strong that is a damn fine buy even with high mileage.

Enjoy that spoiler beer.
>>
>>17670940
I'm a fucking idiot, i didn't even read it's a vape.
>>
>>17670730
You probably won't be able to see the cracks. If you can get a free one thats cool but may develop same issue
>>
>>17671042
I'm surprised it lasted this long honestly. First time I had an issue with it even though it seems like a fairly common thing to break.

What are your guys' thoughts on 7th gen Accords? There is a black 07 for $8000 at a local dealer with 163k. I've heard a lot of good things about the K24. I'm not expecting a sports car, but are they at least halfway fun to toss around? Just looking for a decently fun car to daily drive.

http://www.briggssubaru.com/used/Honda/2007-Honda-Accord-lawrence-kansas-city-7f57cad10a0e0ae7513b8f859136850e.htm

163k miles
$8,000

Are you spending your own money or are you taking a loan?
>>
>>17671157
I'd be putting down about $4000 initially and then making payments on the rest if they dont try to fuck me over too hard.

It really just comes down to how things work out at my new job. I won't get it until I have a stable income.

It's the best handling 'family car' but you pay a tax for low mileage examples like mine from dealers. Go on CL and look around if you want to save money, but a clean 7th gen is worth the money if you don't mind paying.

Also
>Great interior quality
>It's smaller than a newer Accord but still is big enough
>Suspension is as firm as you want but it's comfortable
>safe as fuck if the worst happens

Animal ate some wiring on the white CRX so i need to fix it now, unless someone wants a good deal on one lol.

I am seconding the 03-04, but clean examples are getting rare-er by the year, expect accident history and the car to be weathered as fuck.
>>

How is the security? My new job is in kind of a shitty area. Its what is keeping me from getting an older Civic, I'm afraid of some chicano fuck stealing my shitbox.

>>17671205
>>17671232
Almost all them are 210k+ miles and in 30+ minutes away. The only Accords here in town are from the mid 90s. Which isn't a problem normally, but I've already got an old shitbox to deal with.
>>
>>17671244
keep your eyes open.

How much do you make a year? Do you really want to pay some jew 4000 + interest for literally no reason?

The immobilizer key is the best shit ever, grandmother lives in a kinda crap area and no one ever stole it

Because you have $4000 to put down, I'd buy that fucker and have a nice car with a low payment, just check the hood, rear bumper cover, trunk, and quarters for matching vin stickers, then you'll know it hasn't been smashed in the back and had a new quarter welded on like mine. Accidents aren't a deal breaker but it's god to know.

On the low side I probably make about $15k a year. I'm obviously not very well endowed.

desu the idea of payments in general disgusts me but like I said earlier, I have literally no credit at all so I'd like to build that up before a little bit before I turn 20.

Also I found an 06 V6 EX Coupe with 95k at another dealer, but its not in town. Unfortunately its also $8000.
>>
>>17671280
If you absolutely have to buy this car, understand that it doesn't cost $8,000. It actually is going to cost $8,700+ over the course of the loan.

Maybe consider other options.

Yeah for sure. I'm just looking around to see what I can get.

If only I could just be a normie and take whatever car that gets me from point A to B and be happy with it. Wouldn't have to worry about whether a car is "fun" or any of that. I could be totally fine with a faceless boring econobox. Oh well
>>
>>17671314
You are below US poverty line. If you are living on your own and have to pay for shit, you can't afford "fun".

Be smart and save your dollars and keep working your ass off.
>>
>>17671314
Also while I continue looking, are Del Sols and less or more likely to be stolen? There are a few decent examples for under $4k but I know a Del Sol is still basically a Civic

it was like $40 violation if I remember correctly. a third one though and I think the fine jumps way up. exhaust and window tint are the two other violations I frequently get pulled over for although I haven't in a while. easy revenue for the police to hit me with all three violations in one traffic stop. i guess keeping the front plate is just one less reason to get pulled over.
