Goddamn I am so close

Went to get the Civ' inspected today, he said to bring it back later. I had work so I couldn't do that. Place is closed now.

I cannot believe I have almost gotten a junkyard car back into roadworthy condition.
>>
>>17607416
How much do you think you've put into it?
>>
>>17607439
Now is a good time to calculate.

600 for the car
100 for time transfer
100 for battery
200 for alternator
100 for hood
300 for front brakes
300 for rear brakes/suspension components
50 in spray paint
100 for windshield
100 for registration
50 for rockers
About 50 in bondo
And the frame repair was luckily free, I knew the guy very well.

It all comes together as roughly $2050 CAD alltogether, 1450 excluding the car itself.

I do not regret a single cent of it all.

I'm imagining being able to hop in the car after a long day of work and not boil over with the front end bouncing all over the place and not hearing any springs popping and binding.

>>
>>17608706
Yeah those aftermarket horns are usually way larger than the stock ones. The stock EG horn is super tiny compared to my pair of Hellas.
>>
>>17608717
Size wasn't the issue, it was hardly bigger than the stock disk. Problem was the mount for the original horn was rust-welded to the screw hole, and I was having a hard time finding a place to put it. I decided on a space a bit to the right of the original bracket.

I also got fed up with waiting to get the muffler done, so I exhaust-taped it. It'll pass.

Looking good. I peeled all the black bits on mine and painted it. Starting to peel though because I should have done more coats. Still not bad, though.

I found my AC leak but it still leaked after putting in one of those universal O rings. The O rings seem way too thin so I'm gonna check out the dealer for one before work. They still use this part number in the newest Hondas so I think they should have them well stocked. I'm just glad the cans of Wal-Mart refrigerant are pretty cheap. Less than five bucks a pop since I have one of those reusable dispensers.

There's no vtec.
>>
Hi /hg/ I come here with a question.

I have a '96 Accord EX with the 2.2. It's a 5 speed. Now it jumps into full on Vtec after 4k RPMs, and it does this in every gear on the spot. My issue is, sometimes, only in 1st gear it feels really delayed kicking in. It'll get to about 4.5 to 5k and then jump in, it feels almost like fuel cut, but its random and only at that RPM range in that gear. Now the car had a lot of stuttering issues when taking off from a standstill until I replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor. That's all fixed, but this random issue still is here.

Could it be the fuel pump? My friend said something about spark plug seals and oil seeping in with them? Pls halp.
>>
>>17612606
its a 13b swao
>>
>>17612861
is the coolant fully warmed? coolent temp has to be at 159 F i think before vtec will work
>>
>>17613267
Maybe his temp sensor took a shit, I've seen cars run rich and misfire cause the motor thinks it's freezing.
>>
>>17613272
I know that the temp sensor is fucky. I've changed the actual sensor twice and the temp gauge doesn't want to work properly. (Never has.) But I've had the temps checked many times to make sure it's not actually overheating.

Maybe it actually is lol.

>>17613267
I believe so, yes. It's pretty random, but it's not common for it to happen.
>>
I want to get a used CR-Z, any cool benifits or incentives for hybrid cars?

So I bought a CRX EF and planning an engine swap. I bought a B18A1 have the trans and all parts to swap. Its an OBD1 motor so makes 140HP. Has a header but otherwise stock. Will my car feel fast on just 140hp considering the weight or should I have gone with a vtec motor? Also are there any worth while mods besides turbo? Are intake and exhaust worth it? Pic related, its my rex. At the body shop now getting rust and dents repaired and resprayed.
>>
>>17612412
I actually live in the Caribbean. I'm just trying to find RHD cars (specifically a mint DC2, manual) without having to import it all the way from Japan. We drive on the left.
>>
>>17613357
If it's like my car the thing that controls the needle is separate from the actual coolant temp sensor. Mine is under the distributor. It's a little metal needle plug.
>>
>>17613482
If you have the shit load of money it takes to repair all that rust and paint it, dont fuck around with a b18a1.

140hp is not fast
>>
>>17613571

Well I already have the motor + all the stuff for a B swap. Was thinking about putting on a vtec head but I'm worried about reliability (not sure the mileage of this and heard they don't last long)

Building it for autox kind of thinking I should have swapped a d16 vtec instead, 10 less hp but vtec and 100lb less or so.
>>
>>17613542
It is. I've replaced the sensor already.
>>
>>17613654
If you are going to do auto cross you want a vtec head since youll be at high rpm for long periods.

get a b16 since it revs the highest
>>
>tfw paid $4.30 for a single 8mm AC O ring

Those packs of universal ones don't quite fit right and look like the reason why the refrigerant leaks so bad. Hopefully this fixes it.

$400 CB7anon here.

I had ordered a timing kit for about $90, includes a waterpump and all the necessary things for my power steering and shit.

Gonna have my powersteering and new belts installed hopefully tomorrow, if not, then next week.

I've already gotten ignition wires, spark plugs, oil + filter, distributor cap + rotor, air filter, and windshield wipers all changed.

Next I got a valve cover set and a CV boot to replace. Possibly also getting a new radiator in the same order, but don't know.

Things are almost finished up for the basic maintanence and needed to be replaced stuff. Soon as I do that, I can start sorting out the body damage. Hope to have pictures and join the collage at some point.

pretty annoyed I'm so close to pulling this 240 engine if I just had my friend at the shop it'd be worth doing.

I fucked around with it and it def seems loose as fuck, just sitting on the engine mounts and tranny kinda sagging. It's on a lift so I put some jacks up so it stays kinda normal looking till I can get more experienced eyes to help with the cherrypicking.

Only 2000CAD, but I'll bite.

Because it wasn't really about just the car, it was the principal. I didn't want to give up on the car, and the fact that it hadn't folded in half while taking it everywhere really pushed mye further.
I probably could have saved my money and got another Echo, but now I have invaluable information of how to fix and work on my car, and I'm still up a cool looking coupé.

There's other Hondas I wish I could have bought, but they're all either way out of my price range, or have been sitting on grass for the last two decades. At least mine was on gravel, and you saw how bad that thing was.

Right before going to bed I got a bite on my ad requesting a new condenser. It's an EK condenser but he said he's got the necessary lines to make it fit my EG system. Basically the little dryer canister is where the AC switch will plug into instead of on the condenser itself like my EG one. Aside from that I just need to change out the high pressure hose I think. Hopefully I can get this working.

wondering if anybody can help and yes i researched forums
i got a 94 del sol and the guy before me fucked up the wiring with a sub and lambo doors ive pretty much got the radio working and all the blown fuses replaced but now my windows dont work nothing happens no click in the relay (replaced) and the fuses seem fine
>>
>>17619053
It wasn't on Kijiji, friend found it.

I got it mainly because I was kind of depressed, but there was no clinical diagnosis so I'm not gonna say anything for certain. I had wrecked my car, the Echo, and I felt like shit. I felt like I needed another car to fill the gap that the Echo had filled. 600 was a lot of what I had, and it seemed like a quick fix in the moment.

A lot of regret once I got my head clear, but it's all gone now.

I doubt anyone with any concern for the car will buy it, as that is but life.

It is not working towards what we want as opposed to what we have, but learning to live with what we already have and coming to terms with the fact that we will probably never have what others get daily.
Don't be sad for it, be happy it survived to this point.

What causes an intermittent misfire on 2007 Honda fit? MORE FUCKING RUST.

I thought I was crazy and hearing things since nothing came up when I hooked up the scanner, but the orange ting on the far right coil is carbon tracking mixed with rust I believe.

Right above the coil pack, the 2 pieces of the hood cowl meet together, directing water to body clip that rubbed enough to scrap paint, rust and the get washed down onto the coil pack.

Yeah it's okay but ideally you should use distilled or de-ionized water to flush then with coolant/distilled water mix. It's good to have someone on the car to tell you if it's at operating temp. and to turn it off in case of overheating

Probably not. I used to hate the back end of these things, especially the non Type R version, but I'm starting to like them too.
You could get an EP3 Type R as well, those are a lot better looking.

Hardest part is removing the tank from the car.
>>
>>17636423
If that's even needed. Some cases like my Civic the pump is accessible underneath the back seat.
>>
Seems like I have a head gasket issue and wheel bearing issue on my 99 Accord 4cyl. The coolant has a layer of nasty brown stuff on top with normal coolant under, and sometimes (very rarely; twice in the past week) I hear a ticking noise that changes with vehicle speed, and when it shows itself it's only audible below 20 mph with the windows down and my head half out the window.

Is it worth it trying to fix this car? If so, how much is a good price for getting the head gasket issue fixed? I don't really like any of the newer cars, and insurance will get pretty expensive for me if I get a new car.
>>
>>17636585
Find you a good local Honda Facebook group and you should be able to find somebody to do it for you cheaply.

As for the possible bearing, lift that wheel off the ground and try shaking the wheel. First with your hands at 12 and 6 then 3 and 9. Also spin it to see if you hear any bearing grind.
>>
>>17636585
The head gasket itself isn't expensive to replace. The hardest part is actually getting to it since you'll have to remove the head. I replaced mine a few months back but I wasn't there when it was fixed so I can't tell you what the process is like. Check Youtube.

You need to get it fixed ASAP. The longer you wait the greater the chances of the head becoming warped (if it isn't already), and if that's the case then you'll need to have the head machined so the new gasket lays flat in the groove.

You'll need to bleed your coolant system too and some other minor stuff, but again those are not expensive.
>>
>>17636656
Adding to this. I highly recommend getting the replacement gasket coated with the copper spray. It'll make it far more reliable.
>>
>>17636653
Quick 10-second FB search didn't turn up anything too promising. I'll look harder for a group later. I'll check the wheel bearing thing when I get some time later today, thanks.

>>17636656
This problem only came to my attention because I overheated once and found out I couldn't see any coolant in the radiator anymore under the cap. I'm pretty sure it's already warped. I found a decent(?) tutorial on changing the head gasket (linked below) but I'm afraid I'll mess up the timing or something when I put everything back together.

https://axleaddict.com/auto-repair/F23HGRepair

Should I try to do it myself anyway? Always wanted to work on my car myself but all I've ever done is change the oil.

>>17636707

Also the head may be fine but it's up to you to get it checked. Mine overheated pretty bad but it never warped.

If the head is warped then you cannot do it alone unless you have the tools necessary grind down to level off your engine block (on both sides) where the gasket is. Warp means the metal is bent out of shape, putting a new head gasket on bent metal won't keep your engine sealed tight.

Speaking of keys, how expensive is it to change all the locks for a car? Our car only came with one key fob, and the buttons to lock/unlock the doors don't work. Been putting off changing it for a while. Might just take it to a dealership and have them sort it out or something.

What's a good way to get small dents out of doors and stuff? I'm considering just replacing all four doors on my accord, but then the problem becomes having to get cylinders manufactured to my key, and stuff.

I figure If I have to take apart the doors to do work on the power windows, I may as well just get "new" doors with already top notch power windows and remove the dents at the same time.

But that is assuming it'd be easier to rip them off and put on new ones.

Talked to a guy this morning. He says it'll never look right because it's a metallic finish, so best course of action to make it look nice is to kill the rust and respray the roof.

Rather than paint it the original color again, I'm thinking of copying the two-tone scheme the Japanese models had.

I'm hoping it's the evaporator. There's a junkyard EG with excellent looking AC parts. I already pulled the condenser, compressor, and dryer from it.

I also have the vacuum pump, gauges, and refrigerant can tap so I'm fully equipped to work on the AC now.

I keep thinking about that but there are advantages to having a well running car with a beater body. I put at least 25,000 miles on it a year so keeping a nice paintjob from getting messed up would be a real pain. I've had a few people scratch it up in parking lots as it is. A good shell with nice paint usually goes for 6 or 700 bucks. Also thought about getting a good shell, moving my good parts to it, then putting a D15 and cheap parts into the original car to keep using as a ecomod beater. Can have the best of both worlds.
