I had an accident back on the fourth of July. My bike is fine, but I don't feel like dropping any more money into it. I rather get a new bike. It's a 2005 GSXR 600. Any recommendations? I'm thinking like a $3,500 price range at best. I mean, I could go up, but I don't feel comfortable yet buying a new bike. Also, anyone else ever been in an accident where you feel alot more cautious and or just scared? Or is it just me?

Touring season may have ended early guise. The temp company landed me a temp to hire gig. Decent pay, but it's swing shift.
My commonlaw marriage won't withstand 5 days of watching the other sleep, then two more of me being on the road without her.

....what other bike is cheap? Maybe I could put a larger tank on a sabre and have her ride my current...
Are VF750 engine parts readily available? Anybody own one of the three?
>>
how to properly learn how to lean off? im currently using counter steer but i already feel that its holding me back when it comes to corner speed. any tips for a beginner?
>>
How are these bikes? Is the trail 90 better or the 110? How are they for commuting? Touring?
>>
>>17638665
Some guy toured the world on the cub version of the 90.
Just not very fast. Like... painfully slow. Especially for the price. Why do you want one?
>>
>>17638660
Look up body positioning.

I do this
>Slide butt 1/2-3/4 off seat to side
>ball of foot on inside peg, whatever position your foot needs on outside peg to lock on tank and let you push down on it
>Point inner toe away from bike
>lean in and slowly drop upper body down into corner at same time
Upper body should be like you're trying to kiss the mirror. remember to look through corner.

Are you even hitting the edge of your tires? Scraping peg? If not then you have more room to turn. You just gotta psyche yourself up to do it and push that last bit.

>>17638660
Countersteering initiates the lean regardless of what you're doing. Leaning off reduces the amount of lean the bike needs to execute a given corner.
If you're not scraping pegs, there's no need to reduce angle yet. Get a feeling for when that happens, and in the meantime focus on clamping your outside leg in, while maintaining focused gaze and a light touch on bars.

I want to get a 4cyl bike at some point, and if I do, I want to learn how to do this. What's the best way to go about learning to do it? I imagine it'll be like learning an instrument. At first I'll be terrible at it and it'll sound like shit. And are there any mods required to get the bike to rev so quickly?

At an optimistic 40 degrees? In PNW continuous rain. Going 45-70 mph?

I have literally never used the term "nobike" in my 2 years on this board, but fuck off. I'm a commuter, and a combined 1.5 hour daily ride has been more than enough for the last three years.

I was leaning towards the hawk even though it's the most expensive and white it's my favorite because the jaw actually detaches, it doesn't just go up which allows a much bigger face exposure with the shield up while still protecting the face. though the smaller size and the way it snaps off seems like it could negate the point of face protection, like it would fly off if I actually took a fall?

in training I really liked the bigger exposure to breeze and such of an open-face helmet, especially the one I used that has a fixed shield with no jaw, but I realize they protect you less. but the traditional modular helmet has to have the jaw totally up to become open-face which not only looks dumb but might be a bad idea when riding.

There are so many new riders on /dbt/ I really recommend you guys lookup your local bike group/clubs online maybe on meetup.com or facebook to make some rider buddies and have them teach you.

I don't want anons to make all the common rider mistakes and group rides are an enriching fun part of riding as well. Just be sure you tell them you're a new rider and ask how you should ride in a group. Look for a formal group with require application forms who aren't squids or niggers.

Just know everyday they're keeping it they'll charge you $100 per day. That's what happened to my bike I left it there for a month because my family kept pushing me to not get it back because they were scared of me crashing again. Ended up costing 3000 so when they offered to take the wrecked bike instead, which was 3500 new when I bought it I took them up on it.
>>
>>17639428
just last year I got into a scrape and the solicitors were dragging their feet on collecting damages from the third party
the garage that assessed it for them offered to keep hold of it until I got my payout so they could fix it, MOT it and put it back on the road as a cat-d.

13 (thirteen) months later, after finalising the paperwork to take the case to court, I got my payout.
the garage was rather nonplussed to say the least

I'm a new ride with a problem I can't seem to find info one. What gear should I ride in and/or how long should I wait between downshifts? I'm having trouble downshifting quickly cause I don't want to throw myself of the bars for stopping too quick and dont want to redline lower gears but I feel like I'm not stopping as efficiently as I should be. Like say I'm going 60, by then I'm in 4th or 5th, 4th feels about the same as 5th but hangs at about 4500 rpm instead of a comfy 3200, yet when I go to downshift I have to go through yet another gear.

The trail 90 is the better buy over the 110. Honda didn't bring a lot to the table with the 30 extra CCs. They are excellent surface street commuters and they are really light.
It has its cons though. 6V systems will give you an underwhelming head light for driving at night. The front brake will need to be fiddled with every couple hundred miles to tighten the front brake cable, if you've never adjusted points you will have to learn.

They aren't bad, they are just dated. You could do much better getting a XR250L as a dual sport commuter.

Fucking ecstatic. Just need to register it and get gear.

ATX anons hit me up
>>
>>17639685
What bike.
e.g. my speedo indicates I should shift up at roughly 45-50 for third, 55-60 in fourth. I can run either about 5-8 mph lower than that, making downshifts have less braking effect. I rarely do, because tiny drums require me to use every ounce of stopping power possible---but I theoretically could.
Anywhere below that, and a handful of throttle produces nearly no effect. It's untenable because in the event I swerve instead of braking to avoid an obstacle, it's better to speed up slightly.

With your bike, which sounds like a similarly powered machine, I suggest two solutions.
1. Read the fucking manual. It should have "maximum recommended speed" for gas mileage and performance use. Use the shifting points there for your floor.
2. Go out and wring it's neck. Ride the bike to redline, slowly accelerating. Pay attention to when the engine begins to "feel" weaker, and look down. Do the same for every gear and you'll have a roof.
Do this on level ground. Set your regular range between the two, in such a way that shifting up leads to a similar starting rpm with each successive gear.
Memorize the bounds you've placed on each gear position, and start taking passes to refine your hearing and riding style.

>when I click it in either directions they all turn on and stay on.
You have connected you lights in series, and they need to be in parallel for the left and right side.
I know this because your system probably puts out 13 something Volts and your LED signals are 3.6v each so when you turn it on you are short the voltage for the last one.

Check the connections you did to the relay, and even if you have the right relay like >>17639810 said.

Also the motorcycle is a vmax if that helps, right signals hot wire is green, left is brown, both running is blue and the grounds are black and are a 2 into 1 connector on both the front and rear. Sorry for blog post but I want to fix this.

If she likes the response, 500 is good.
Since weight is an issue, have her try the cb500f or cb650f also. Don't tell her, and she may fool herself into thinking it's lighter than it is.

Idk mane. I really like my bike. To each his own though. They're stupid maintenance intensive.

If you ever get an italian bike, you'd better either love wrenching or have deep pockets.

>>17640017
MV's F3s and pre 09 F4s have the best exhaust pipes. only issue with the F3s is that the pipes are connected to the cat, so they usually go away with a full system. Makes me sad.

First of all those pants are fucking rad :^) and second nobody said anything about going down just some jeans have shit pockets so it´s nice to have an extra bit of security. If my wallet falls out with a chain I can just pull over and slip it back in my pocket, but without a chain I will have to turn around and go looking for it most likely in traffic. I mean the chance of it falling out are pretty slim but I don´t want to tempt fate.

Right front one has the wires backwards, LEDs must have the right polarity to work.

You'll need an LED flasher or wire a resistor in to get the load right on a normal non LED flasher. LED flashers are like 5 bucks.

So.
Urals.
One came up for sale at $4500 in a town I'm riding to.
I'm really tempted to just sell the bike and buy it up. But I have to see if my student loan comes in before Friday to make a bad financial decision.
But this got me thinking. I live in Canada, and if Urals are 2wd, I can ride them in the winter. And I can load all my sports gear and groceries in the sidecar. I will never need a car and can flip my mates and family off.
Now, how bad/good are Urals in terms of reliability? I know almost nothing about them. But to spite people, I'm willing to put up with th occasional problem.

So, purple pill me on the Ural. The good and the bad.

The Ural is pretty cool just for 2wd snow drift madness. But I am a student and should not live outside my means until I get the ability to take out loans. So I ask /dbt/ about Urals.
>>
>>17640329
>>17640323
Those are good answers.
I can deal with gutless. But I do want to stay away from a high maintenance bike. Especially if the only two parts dealers are six hours away.

I just read the twenty questions thread. I'm definitely gonna read more. Maybe Ural will step up their game in the coming years. Maybe I should own a second bike so I don't have to worry. Maybe I should just not do it. But are there any other 2wd sidecar bikes? Probably not?

Every thread here talks about engine problems. Engines go wrong on this thing.
This must have been a consistent problem for decades. Why doesn't Ural fix them? It's an air cooled bike that ran carbs up until 2014. I didn't even need to clean the carbs on my 30 year old Yamaha. Seriously, an air cooled boxer twin can't be that mechanically complex.

And for that matter, why don't people just swap the engine out? With a little fabricobbling, the sky is the limit. Suzuki Hayabusa engine in an Ural. Something crazy must be better than this.
>>
>>17640571
Pretty sure they're slowly moving production out of Russia but the stuff that usually breaks is still made there. Their whole selling point is owning a Russian bike so it's hard to do.
>>

>>

You should at least be able to touch both tips of your foot on the ground. I'm 6'5 and can't imagine anything other than flatfooting every bike I get on, but even when I'm on a hill and keeping one foot on the back brake it gets really uncomfortable and I have to catch myself from tipping over a lot.
>>
>>17640305
>Now, how bad/good are Urals in terms of reliability?

They are well known for the ease of maintenance (because it's a military machine) if you're willing ot get yourself dirty as well as the high frequency of required maintenance.

Nobody drives them in Russia, they are used as a toy to play around in the garage. Although you're probably talking about 1990+ Ural, we don't have them (export model, too expensive). Pre-1990 costs ~ $500 here and if you think that they have made a huge progress in the last 40 years then think again.
