Speeding ticket story

>be inna Idaho on way to MT
>trade bikes with moto frand
>freshly-purchased 2017 BMW R1200RS
>dat torque
>get frisky with throttle
>pass cop
>immediately pull over before cop is even up to speed
>friend on my bike goes up road to wait
>radared at 115 in a 65
>cop is nice
>needs registration
>on friend's bike
>tell friend through Sena to come back to prove registration
>does so
>cop admits he couldn't tell which one of us was going 115
>asks both of us "at any point do you think either of you were going over 80?"
>gets replies of "I don't know"
>cites us both at 80 in a 65 so he doesn't have to impound and jail, and because we didn't run
>$155 fine

We are probably going to fight it, as the officer freely admitted that he didn't know who was speeding, and my friend wouldn't have even gotten a ticket if he hadn't come back to deal with the registration. The fine is super cheap relative to what I'm used to, but it gives me a reason to take a road trip.

Master cylinder was leaking and letting air in even with new internals, just picked up a used one of a bike with 3k miles. Hoping it works this time around.

The front wheel was upset by something, hit a bump and the wheel is set down slightly off center. The front wheel is wiggling trying to find center. The more you hold on, the worse you are making it.

A lot of times it can happen if you overload the front. On the gas hard, off the gas hard and too stiff on the bars.

Can be exacerbated by poor suspension settings.

Be loose on the bars and gas it out. Get the weight off the front end and let it settle itself.

While I was stopped, he also gave me a 250$ ticket for my exhaust, which is just a standard sports bike slip-on with baffles installed, not even that loud.

I was respectful and wasn't giving him any lip, but you bet I won't be stopping next time.

I have no idea am I doing this right. H4 bulbs have highs and low beams on the same bulb, I suspect that the right side light was intended to be lows only and left one is highs only. Well they didn't work, the left side was completely dark. I stole power from the right side light and somehow managed to get it working as a high beam too.

Basically I have two low beams and two high beams now, this thing will probably blind everyone that comes at it.

Around 2500km in total, over about 4 days. These km's would equal there and and back. This will be the first time i've done these sorts of distances on a bike, I will be by myself.
What are some essentials I need to pack??

You have a cellphone and that's the only tool you ever really need. Worst case ontario and your phones dead, flag someone down and borrow theirs, just have the essential numbers written down somewhere if you don't have the memorized. I've done that distance in 2 days, it wasn't too bad - have fun senpai.

Hey dbt, florida-anon that was here a while ago asking about rider fatigue with an update.

I just scheduled to take my BRC 1 to get my endorsement and have never ridden a day in my life.
I got approved for a personal loan and plan on picking up a ZX-14R (already paid for) in a couple weeks and insuring with just liability. I won't be doing much riding till I complete all the courses (I signed up for all of them).

Any advice to a new rider way in over his head?

I just bought a 2009 monster 696.

Check the color of all fluids (clutch, both brakes, oil). Ask for service receipts. Belts must be replaced every 2 years regardless of mileage, so if he can't produce a receipt saying that has been done sometime within that time period, don't plan on riding it much until it gets done. Worn/old belts will destroy a Ducati very, very quickly.

Most people sell Ducati's at the magic points right before 7500 mile increments. You'll notice how they all typically have 5-6k miles or 12-13k miles. The 7.5k mile maintenance is the valve adjustments, which can be done yourself but are very time intensive. They are not feasible to be done yourself if it's your daily rider, it will take you 7-8 hours of work to do both sets of opening/closing valves if you're competent mechanic, longer if you're not.

Just gauge the owner. If they're someone who looks like they really gave a fuck about the bike, good. My seller was an old super rich guy who bought it as a toy and put less than 3k miles on it since 2009. He took it in for a full service after shaking on our deal because he wanted me to fall in love with it, not hate it for killing my wallet with maintenance. Has brand new belts, battery, and the valves were checked. Changed out the oil with racing oil myself and it runs amazing.

Part of why I got it is because I want to expand my mechanical abilities. I really enjoy the challenge of working on convoluted machinery, even though it's stressful and involves a lot of cussing/frustration, the feeling of completing it successfully can't really be beat. I am looking forward to tackling valve adjustments and tuning belts based on frequencies with a guitar tuner, even though it will undoubtedly take forever have me in tears at a few points.

Personally, I think a single anime sticker on a clean bike is the cringest shit. The idea that someone thought they were being tasteful, or could be tasteful, with any amount or type of anime induces levels of second hand embarassment rarely experienced without the the presence of bronies. All you do is make yourself look awkward, while marring an otherwise clean machine.

A full on itabike, however, is self aware and unashamedly niche art. There is nothing subtle, "power level hiding", or insecure about it. The itasha says, this is what I wanted to see, and this is what I want you to see. I'm showing this to you, and it was somethin I worked hard on. The effort alone is admirable. The balls to take a mildly taboo subject and turn it into a wild racing livery, slightly more so.

Go long or go home.

My first bike was a beginners meme bike and I didn't learn anything on it. Nothing made sense except for twist and go fast/shift gears/pull the lever to stop and there wasn't a reason to really git gud because you can always dab with your foot on a tiny machine like a ninja 250.

My second bike was a heavy ass GSF1200 and I started cornering aggressively almost immediately, because using throttle to manage the weight and keep the bike upright lead into an understanding of using throttle to do more than just accelerate, and the soft suspension+weight made weight transfers and suspension geometry changes so obvious that you could really "feel the bike". Granted, there were a few high and low speed crashes, but it wasn't a clean, uncrashed bike to begin with.

Heavy bikes are fine, if not great for getting yourself to learn. They exxagerate what a bike wants to do with its own mass so it's easier to pick up on it and manage it. It's just that it's easy to crash at first because you might not get what's going on the first time.

Shit film but the film only existed to showcase those choppers, which are the most recognised motorcycles in history.

They were both built in traditional West Coast black biker style, by black bikers. Ben Hardy and Cliff Vaughs got little credit at the time for obvious reasons.

You can leave the banjo high and use the banjo bolt as a bleed screw the same way you'd use a bleeder nipple. Motorcycle mechanics do this all the time because air bubbles rise. Put a towel underneath to keep brake fluid off your paint, or even better a towel with a plastic trash bag underneath.
>>
>>17619614
If you are pushing fluid up from the bleeder on the slave, you can sometimes get air from the threads on the bleeder bolt. Remove it and give the threads a few wraps of teflon tape. Also take the master loose and hang it on a cord/wire from the roof of your garage to make sure the line is straight up, no place for an air bubble to hide that way. Ideally you would attach the master to a spare set of bars or a pipe so you can ziptie the lever down and leave it for a couple of hours before you put it back in the right place on your bike.

I had it ziptied up to a pole a couple nights ago, didn't help but that was before the new/used master. Maybe I'll try again.

There's absolutely no air in the lines, I think the master is sucking air in when the lever is squeezed.
New seals and everything too.
I'm at a loss here, not my first line bleed but this bike is cursed.

Hey /o/,

/trv/ here posting from a remote village in rural Tanzania.

Flying back home to the United States in early January to resume university. Already planning a motorcycle trip from Michigan down to Mexico City in May, with there being a possibility of continuing onward to Panama, if time permits.

Semi-experienced rider / had my own bike for two years and been riding for three.

Considering getting one of the following bikes either new or gently used:

- Suzuki V-Strom 650
- KLR 650
- Honda 500X

Somebody else suggested the Versys but I'm not familiar.

Any ideas? Need something with limited off-road capabilities that can handle long-distance touring without breaking into a million pieces. Heavily favoring the V-Strom ATM but want to explore other options (because I'm poor and mummy and daddy don't pay for my shit).

Biggest draw with the Honda for me is just the cost, TBQH. It costs less brand new than a two or three-year old V-Strom.

The wee-strom is a good bike that would fulfill the role well. Could actually use a little wider gearing if sustained freeway riding but not too bad. Actually preferred it to the larger 1000. The KLR is a bit weak but would also fill the role but would be more off-road oriented than the strom. If you are going to look at the strom also look at the versys as they are competition to each other. Never ridden a versys but have ridden other kaw 650 twins and the suzuki 650 twins and I slightly prefer the suzuki powerplants...but ultimate decision would probably change to whichever bike gave me the best range and largest fuel tank. I would recommend the slightly older wee because of my bias I think it had longer range/better mpg compared to the newer one and you could find a used one in good shape cheap...it really was a good bike. Triumph and some other vendors have some options but for a good pricepoint I would stick Japanese.

If it has a clear title, go for it. Then perform a compression test before fucking with anything else because you need to know engine internal condition. If it runs that's nice but when you get it home do the test anyway. Throttle wide open, no spark plugs installed. I use compressed air to blow any crumbs out of the spark plug wells before removal.

If it sat for a long time it may read low and come up after running a bit. Inspect spark plugs when doing compression test.

They are decent motorcycles. Change all the fluids and the oil filter.

Never jump off a running car, as auto charging systems overwhelm little motorcycle voltage regulators.

The piston style CV carbs are simple enough to clean. I remove the carb and intake boot clamps completely when pulling racks of carbs. Long needle nose pliers (Harbor Freight is fine) are useful and a JIS screwdriver set is vital. Jap screws are NOT Phillips or Reed and Prince, they just look very close.

I have a couple of these and like 'em for carb work:
