How much ethanol is in your regular gas?
I would not use gas that has more than 5% ethanol in a bike older than 2000
If there is 10% or more ethanol in regular it might have destroyed your gaskets

>the tank is full right now
put the gas from the bike in your car
>>
>>17514987
I'm worried my sight glass might be misaligned or otherwise fucked up. I've never had a good reading from it.
I'm gonna replace the oil entirely and run an octane boost. Looks like I'll bus it to Crappy Tire tomorrow.

Shell v-power has none, I could try replacing it with that. Drain the carbs and prime them...
The gasket could seriously be damaged. That burn mark is new, and the oil leak's been there a while, but it was slow. Now it is certainly not slow.

Oh, is it possible for someone to steal gas from the petcock? I found the little wire clamps slipped off the spouts on the petcock.

A friend is thinking about buying this bike to replace his Honda Shadow.

https://easttexas.craigslist.org/mcy/6211070354.html

It's a 2007 V-Strom 650 with a little under 28k miles on it. It looks like it's in good shape and the owner claims that it's been well taken care of. Miles are a little on the high side but not so high as to be really worrisome. Does this seem like a decent deal at $3k or a little under?

My friend wants to put a bash plate, handguards, and more aggressive tires on the bike to do some light adventure riding consisting mainly of unpaved roads like fire and logging roads as well as some gravel / dirt county roads and some 2 track trails. The majority of his riding would be on pavement of course.

So I made the unfortunate mistake of attempting to part out a motorcycle through Craigslist. For those of you that have not attempted this before, let this warning serve as a reminder that it's the ultimate red pill as to the type of demographic motorcycle riders are.

Every single person that has come to buy a part has been a complete degenerate. Black stunt riders, mexican street racers, some insane white dude that put a dirt bike chain on his gixxer which shot a hole in his motor, some other insane people that i haven't met yet because theyve been trying to haggle me for 4 weeks now on a $20 part through text.

God. Everyone is just cancer. It makes me wonder just how inflated those motorcycle death statistics truly are considering how many of these fucktards exist

I haggle a bit but not so much that it becomes insulting. I'll usually just ask something like, "Well what's the lowest amount of money you think you could take for [item]" and if they give me a reasonable response then that's what I'll pay.

I've bought all sorts of shit on Craigslist and never paid the full asking price. I've bought a truck, boat, motorcycle, laptop, weight bench, white board, and kegerator off of CL and never had a bad experience.

Hello bike friends, looking at swapping tires, have three sets lined and wondering what yall think is best.

Bike is a drz400sm, commuting and weekly twisty runs.

Continental ContiAttack SM
Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's
Michelin Pilot Street Radials (stock tire size is 120/70 and this tire only comes in 110/70

I'd be satisfied with 3500 miles and up for mileage, wet weather performance isn't a huge thing, barely rains here.

I'd just use a heat gun in that case. Unless they're paper backed.

Even still, i gotta repaint this whole bike. It's got more scratches on it than a fuckin lotto card.

My new project is to try and unfuck the massive fucking i did on the carbs on this thing, unless it's the valves not seating. I doubt it was the boots, but the thing wouldn't hold a sync. Just got finished going balls deep into the concourse, adjusting the valves, cleaning the carbs(which had at least a teaspoon of dirt in each bowl because lol 105,000 miles) replacing the clutch, replacing the cables, new plugs and a new air filter. Which it needed because that shit was CAKED.

This is what i'm reading up on, and they're saying it's the hoses or a leak somewhere. Coat it with talcum powder and see if anything's leaking?
http://www.motorcycleforums.net/forum/cruisers/45668-intruder-clutch-problem.html
I know how frustrating this shit is,m because my CBR600F2 isn't holding a sync and sounds like dogshit. It could be a mirrion things, from cranking down on the carbs during a sync because i diddn't know what i was doing 2 years ago, to fucking up the valve shims because once again i diddn't know what i was doing, and cap and shim valves are a PITA, it could be the cooked carb boots sucking in air.

Nah I've got to agree with >>17517365, Kawasaki (mostly) and often GSXR owners tend to be the biggest bellends I've come across. They always have the most typical dudebro customisation taste, usually tribal and skulls, and always ride like douchebags. It's not exclusive to those two, but they seem to be the vast majority.
>>
How bad of an idea is it to run a clip-style master linked chain on the street? I have a DR650 if that matters.
>>
>>17517396
aw he's expecting
>>
>>17517432
not at all.
>>
>>17517432

Perfectly fine as long as you look after the chain properly.
>>
>>17517447
>>17517453
K. I just read where it said that the clip style master link was only recommended for use off-road and that if it was going to see highway use then it was recommended to rivet it.
>>
>>17517430
It's because the bikes roll out of the factory being sort of ugly, and not the best performers, so people with bad taste are the only ones who buy them in the first place

Yamaha is in third for bikes with the worst following

And then you have the CBR. Honda sportbikes are beautifully designed and well balanced on the street and the track. There's nothing to change on them unless you bought an older used one and could benefit from components off a more modern CBR. The modern CBR is as close as you can get to buying the perfect sportbike.
>>
>>17517461

It'll probably be fine, but as a precaution maybe carry a spare link and link clip just in case.
>>
>>17517135
At the end of the clutch pusher, on the clutch end there is a thrust bearing, and on top of that is a washer, part number 09160-15045. If you forget to install that washer, and instead let the thrust bearing ride directly on the pressure disk, the clutch will not fully disengage.
>>
>>17517466

I dunno I mean neither the Suzukis or Kawasakis look too bad (I'm not a fan of Kawasakis myself but they're not hideous), and they both perform really well too. They both seem to attract the type of person that rides around in camo pants and a hoodie with skulls on them.

Performance wise, the new ZX-10R and GSXR1000 are both superb, and both reasonable looking.

I'd have to agree with the Yamaha thing though, I used to love the MT-07 and MT-09 but they seem to have become the next evolutionary step for douchebag Grom owners.
>>
>>17517461
They say that to avoid liability issues because there's a very very small chance of the clip popping off while reversing or something and you don't realize it, then the link comes apart on the highway.

From what I've seen when buying used bikes, you're more likely to come across an improper rivet than a fucked up clip.
>>
>>17517469
Im 99.99% sure i installed everything back exactly how i removed it, but it seems like i have to open the case anyway so ill check.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, ill be in the garage.
