>>

Wait, really? This is the first I'm hearing of it being slower than its displacement would indicate. I'm definitely not looking for a literbike in a CB500. Is it going to be so slow it's awkward on the freeway?

>>
>>17375763
Just be mindful. I rock the cb250 nighthawk up and down I5. Keep out of people's blindspots, keep people from chilling in yours.
These people are pussies.

Otherwise, great engine, poor electrics, huge aftermarket, broad powerband in all 4 configurations (even thr cbr500r).
And it gets 89 mpg.

If you get it, then meme yourself into supersport jealousy, you're not hitting the canyon hard enough.

I'm really not looking for a super speed demon. CB500 seems like a nice compromise between cheap insurance/startup costs, freeway capability, and minor cargo capacity(enough for a trunk and maybe 30lbs maximum). SEems like it does just fine.

Closest other thing I've seen is a SV650, which is a contender. Still on the fence about it.

I hit a deer last week

>be riding home on the interstate
>around 11pm
>going through construction
>construction ends, so I start speeding up
>probably 65mph
>deer bolts out in front of me
if it had kept running, I would have missed it, but no
>stops for a split second
>smash into it
>still upright, trying to slow down
>panic grab front brake
>lay the bike down, slide into the ditch
>sit up, thank God I'm alive
>call ambulance

one week later and I possibly tore my left ACL, otherwise fine.

Damage to the bike was the headlight, footpegs, speedo, and exhaust. And I already have another parts bike I was picking from.

Felt the tire slip for the first time today. I wasn't even going fast, just turning at an intersection and there was some gravel on the read. I'm never leaning again.

There's a (New) bike in the color I want a while away from me. Nowhere anywhere near me has the color I want. I tried looking it up but couldn't find much in the ways of buying specifically new and not used long distance. How in the hell would I go about this? Anyone do this before?
>>
>>17376751
Im a newb so I might not be correct but if you can practice drifting you may be able to recover from slips like that with ease.

My friend used to be a car nut, did tracks days and his own builds all the time. But here's a lil story involving him:

>messing about one day
>narrow road with dodgable obstacles
>going really fast trying to dodge said obstacles
>car loses control
>hes experienced racer so keeps the car on the track
>recover with a few fast turns of the wheel
>tire marks on the ground

Scared me and I was angry at him but I didn't realise at the time his skill in racing meant we would of never crashed, ever!
>>
>>17376407
Close throttle SLOWLY. Step on the rear brake. The front end sucks in, bike stands up, re-lean, and open throttle smoothly.
Too much on any of these will send you wide, into the guardrail. Or a bus.
>>
>>17376796
But what if I want to do the exact opposite and speed into it?
>>
>>17376599
Honda just redid the crf250l, if you're looking for a first. The 450 is pretty fast around a corner, too.

Next day I drove by and somebody had cut off the hind quarters. Dead of winter in northern Canada so it was all frozen by then.

A 98-99 DR350SE is literally unbeatable: dead reliable, great off-road, enough power for te freeway. But finding one in good condition at a good price is getting really difficult.

Older DR350SE/SE's can be brought to that standard by subbing the front suspension and rear wheel off a later dirt model.

The DRZ is really hampered by only 5 speeds. There is a wide-ratio gearset available but it's pricy iirc. Also the engine isn't as durable as the 350's, although it should be good if you really stay on top of preventive maintenance.

The WR250 street model is the other option for a true all-rounder. You won't want to do longer-distance highway rides, but it will get up to highway speed with room to pass when needed. Even used they are really pricy though (but if you want to buy new they really hold their value).

The other 250s really don't have the legs for the highway, although there are 300+ bore kits for the KLX that will get you there if you want to tempt it.

The DR650 really isn't good off-road except on dirt/logging roads, but the best option if you're a fat guy. The XR650 is a good option if you're stupid tall. The KLR is a joke off the highway, and pretty shit on.

650 is where you get into *comfortable* highway cruising, but you're giving up a huge amount of off/bad-road capability and confidence.

The bikes I mentioned will all cruise bat 110km/ 65mph which is what you *need* for the highway. I didn't say they'd be speeding at 80mph and passing everyone on the road.

Range. 500 miles is a regular day.
>>
>>17379160
I have a duke 390 now (first bike) with horrible range too and it doesn't really bother me, but I can get gas anywhere after all.

I have charging stations at work so I'm not really concerned about it but I guess I couldn't go on super long trips without much planning.
>>
>>17379149
I see them around delivering food in Brisbane Australia. Range is a bit of a concern I suppose, but less of a concern as time goes on. Apparently they're modular so with improvement on batteries you can buy a new one and slot it in and get more range/power. They should get better as they age, over the life of ownership.
>>
>>17379160
my KTM 690 Enduro had a shit range for a car (and most bikes) of about 190kms. But that never mattered for commuting. The issue with electric vehicles is it takes longer to charge, so you have to keep topping it up, or be smart when you charge it.
>>
>>17379167
That's the crux of the situation. Charging is too slow for more than 1/day on tour. 2/day as a commuter.
>>
>>17379174
>>17379167
the difference between those two is if you happen to lose track of time, you can stop in a gas station.

I don't know of any gas station you want to hang out at for 10 hours to charge your vehicle to go 80 miles
>>
Would a 2000 F4I in good condition be okay for starting into sportbikes? I know 600s are usually too big, but the f4i is 270lbs dry, while the bike i started on (03 Night Train) is a 725+ pound 1450cc. Obviously the power is different, but would I be petrified of it?

600 being too big isn't about weight, it's about power. The more power you have the easier you can get yourself into more trouble than you know how to handle. Buy a used 300, beat on it for a year then sell it for the price you bought it.

>>
>>17379344
Looking at the specs a KTM RC390 has a pretty similar power to weight ratio. But I'd say so long as you aren't a complete paste eater, you should be fine on a F4I. You might want to look at something like an early-mid 2000s VFR 800 as well. Sportbikes are going to feel pretty uncomfortable coming from a cruiser, and the Viffer should be a bit less harsh. The VTECH is a bit awful, but you can get used to it.
>>
>>17379348
VFRs fit my profile, however my budget is like $2200. I only saw one, whereas I saw literally heaps of F2/3/4's. Do you know how they are dependability wise? I can find a lot about hondas, but I couldn't find much for VFRs. Thanks for the advice m8, want to make sure my dad doesn't have to bury me

Really can't decide between the VFR 800 or the Sprint ST 1050.

VFR 800 is actually a it heavier than the 1050, has worse mpg but I reckon it would have more smiles per miles. Also a good deal cheaper than a 1050, and has that legendary Honda reliability. My local independent dealer is also a Honda mechanic so that would be good for me.

The 1050 is lighter, a bit better on fuel, more powerful with a higher top speed. Apparently its more comfy too and better for pillion.

Both look sexy as fuck.

I am so torn.

I'd get the Viffer.

Sprint

The VFR is just a neutered 90s sportbike with vtec tacked on and a reinforced subframe. The 1998-01 models are overbuilt because honda is so shit that prior VF*s ate cams for breakfast, and they wanted to regain their reputation for reliability. Too bad they overlooked the possibility for the R/R to overheat and overvolt the system (same on the VTR).

VFR = memebike for engine noise freaks to listen to
Sprint = a good motorcycle for people who ride motorcycles

>Don't crank the throttle within viewing distance of a corner
>stay in a high gear until you git gud
>remember more RPMs = more power (exponentially)
>live

That was easy

I want new bike.
Should I sell Dr650 and get a new bike or should I keep it and still get a new bike?

Dad has a 1999 1200 sportster custom. It's not a custom that's just the model. The funny thing is, before I was born and while I was a kid, he turned all his bikes into choppers, but this one he's kept stock and refuses to mod. He's in his 60s though so maybe he just wants something he can rely on.

INB4 then why'd he by a harley? Kill yourselves.

Not sure who started this meme bike but to me the gs500 only signifies extreme poverty and lack of cash in its riders pocket.

Nope. Just tooled around a quiet neighborhood on a test drive the way after I passed by BRC.

Now the first time I took it out into the busy 40mph road in front of my apartment, and the first time I took it on the highway, those are different stories.

First time I rode was in the MSF course. It wasn't bad at all. They went through baby steps to teach everyone. First time I rode in traffic though was pretty fuckin scary. I just bought my first bike and had to get it from my buddies house to mine. I had never gone faster than 20 before and I had to go on the interstate, then it started raining and I had to drive over those metal grate bridges they put down alongside bridge construction. Those fuckers still make me uneasy to this day on a bike they pull your tires all over the place

I've always been curious why older Goldwings are so cheap for such a lot of bike. I get that they're probably all high mileage, but still, if you know what you're doing and can work on your own bike I don't see what could be so bad

Literally because it has two cylinders.

It is easier to say a Parallel Twin to refer to a Engine with two cylinders in one bank.

Or a V twin than a to say an engine with each cylinder in it's own bank and angle between the banks of less than 180 degrees.

Or a horizontal twin/boxer twin to refer to an engine with each cylinder in its own bank, with an angle between the banks equal to 180 degrees.
