I now realize why sportbike riders hate cruiser pirates.

You're both posers, but only one is fast.

Everyone hates MCs. Everyone hates group wheelie sessions aka group rides with sportbikes.

Some people get confused and hate literally everyone on a bike that reminds then of one of those things unless it is their bike.

So pirates wore dumb shit because they stole it and couldn't leave it around so they wore whatever they stole until they got to port so they could sell it. Silk scarves and broaches the such.

Cruiser guys wear dumb shit for no reason as well. They look like pirates. Purposely or not.

How is it riding an adventure bike vs a dual sport dirtbike? I was in an OHV area and saw some adventure riders passing through because it's a shortcut between a couple highways. They weren't hauling ass by any means but it definitely seemed fun to have the power of a larger engine
>>
>>17176894
Yeah I do a decent amount of long highway trips too though and I like the comparatively low maintenance of street bikes.

That said my next bike will probably be more off-road oriented.

you cant get into the same stuff you can with a small bike but the ride is much smoother on my AT than either of my dualsports. theyre pretty easy to handle when traction is reasonable but the weight really shows when you slow down you can clear two track trails and roads with a lot more speed than youd expect and if you have some real balls they can hammer it out in the desert too.
i like the posture and overall feel of dualsports so adv bikes just feel good to me
>>
What the fuck is a "stage 7 jet kit"? I was just reading forums and people mentioned different stages of jet kits. Doesn't make sense at all. Either your carbs are jetted right or they're not. I don't know where the stages come in.

It looked really fun and I've seen that Icon video of the guys on the Triupmh Tigers and was surprised how far those bikes can go given how heavy they are. My room mate used to have a NC700X that he let me ride and it was super comfy
>>
>>17176938

Carb jets help in different conditions. Elevation, freer exhaust, and farts in the wind can impact your carbs jetting. Most people just say fuck it and run rich all the time. It's a science to decide what is best. It's lazy guess work to just run rich and just let you ride it.
>>
>>17176985
adv is really just for dualsport guys that want to cover more ground and still be comfy.
i dont have the invincibility complex anymore so i probably wont ever get too crazy on the bikes

I'm looking at a 2007 SXV 550 and a 2009 Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

Tell me /o/, I'm coming from an R1 (put 12,000 miles on it) and an R6 (put 4k miles since November). How will I adapt to the new riding style? I daily to-from work (50 miles round-trip) and even wanna head South 600 miles later this summer on it. Am I making a mistake? SXV seller warned me it sucks for long commute!
>>
>>17177204

Are you the guy that dropped out of the class while my wife was taking it after he fell over the first day? Literally every other person passed.

You should probably just stick with the bus.

I love the cb650s dash, its really nice looking. In general its just a really nice looking bike. Wonder what the price will be.
>>
>>17177265
You won't lol it will feel wrong for you.
And yes they suck for long commutes, dirt bikes seats are not made to be sat on, you are supposed to stand up 90% of the time on them.
>>
>>17176938
"stages" is a buzzword with no specific meaning that's intended to sound cool.

They are imprecise marketroid speak for good reason, which reason is lightening consumer wallets.
>>
>>17177265
SXV seems like an awful commuter bike. Doesn't it need rebuilds every 30 hours or something?

Dorsoduro would be okay though
>>
>>17177316
Around every 100 hours they need a top end rebuild and every 200 hours they need a full engine rebuild.
so thats about 10,000km/20,000km

>>
>>17177410
See >>17177429. Never been on one, but everything I've read just talks about them being extremely unpleasant. They are only intended for use with the sidecar. You can't lean them at reasonable speeds, which makes them handle uniquely compared to other motorcycles, and you have an asymmetrical turning radius because of the sidecar drag. If you do take the sidecar off, they aren't that much better because of the suspension design, and re-attaching the car is a pain in the ass because of the alignment adjustment procedures.

Pic is my baby. 79 KZ650. Probably put upwards of 160 hours of work into her and although I love her to death, I think it's time to part ways. I'm itching for a bigger bike, and old bike life is rough. It'd be nice to have a vintage Jap bike if I had something completely reliable, but not knowing when something new is going to go wrong and then spending a week waiting on parts is torture when it's beautiful out.

My friend is selling his 01 Wide Glide for cheap as he's moving overseas, and while cruisers aren't quite my style, I think, with a little creativity, I could get it to work.

They race at go-kart tracks because there is lots of go-kart tracks, they're supposed to be on multi-surface tracks like rallycross. Having long wheelbases and being tall as fuck is not doing anything for them on kart tracks and you could easily make single cylinder sport bikes just as light if that was your goal. You could already get a 125cc GP bike and smash any 250 4-stroke supermoto into the fucking ground on any pavement track.

This is basically my thought process. It's a bike I know will run great from a friend who needs it gone fast. It'll, at the least, be a good introduction to bigger bikes (top lel 650 -> 1600 cc jump), and if I don't like it, I can make a nice profit and go in a different direction.

Obviously you want to scrape most of it off but the carbon itself shouldn't be too big of a deal. Turn the piston down and see how the cylinder walls look.

I already do this.

Just from a start I have to shift like 5 times in rapic succession to get into top gear. In between each shift I have to consciously push boot down to reset the shifter position. It's annoying.

When I'm not shifting my balls are on the peg.

Hopefully its just a matter of breaking them in. I might adjust the shift lever up slightly anyway so I dont have to deal with it.
>>
>>17177820
How much does he want for it and what year?

Those big bikes are a different beast tho, it might be 1600cc but that doesnt necessarily mean it will be faster.

Harleys and other cruisers like them make gobs of low end torque, and plenty of power at all highway speeds.

A long shot from a turbo busa lel.

If the shift lever attaches directly to the shift shaft, then you pull it off and reposition it higher on the splines. If it has linkage, then you loosen the lock nuts and turn the linkage rod whichever way raises the shifter.

Also learn to shift properly.

2001. Asking 3k, which from my estimates and what my more Harley oriented friends have said is a pretty good deal, especially considering the work that's been done to it.

>Harleys and other cruisers like them make gobs of low end torque, and plenty of power at all highway speeds.

That's where the big adjustment is going to be. Especially with the S&S carb on there, its throttle settings are basically "idle" and "go real fuckin fast" from what he's told me. He warned me it was prone to pop the front end up from a standstill if you get a little too greedy on the throttle.

They turn on a dime. Never as tight as bikes with more lock for the same lean, but still pretty tight. The trick is to steer with your shoulders instead of your arms. It sets you up for just the right amount of counterlean. It's just fucking scary at first and you need to use the appropriate amount of clutch/throttle/brake to keep from falling over instead of putting around like on a standard or dirtbike.

A WRR is significantly lighter which counts for a hell of a lot offroad, especially rough single track where you didn't, and havent taken your bike because it is not well suited for it. They are also reliable to a fault, have ridiculously low maintenance, and get astronomical fuel economy while being capable on the highway.

The relative offroad capabilities are debatable, (more power and better suspension with the 690/701 but at the cost of substantially more weight). But we are talking about adventure riding here. The WRR has substantial advantages in the reliability, maintenance side of things. Things that are supremely important when you get into REAL adventuring.

The CW kit is literally just the stock cylinder bored out. You can have millennium do the bore and replate and get the same vertex piston for a total of $450. Then buy the gaskets for $50 or whatever it takes. Buying the kit is literally just giving $80 to somebody to put them in a box together.

I've actually ridden his WR too, it's a fun little bike, kinda feels like a toy with shitty levers compared to my 701 though.

That's not how fuel injection works anon.

Fuel injection is far more stable across a wide range of altitudes and temperatures than a carb will ever be.

They come with 13/43 stock. But they have a wider raito gearbox than most every other bike in the dual sport segment first through 6th so geared for similar top speeds the WRR will have a lower first gear and a wider spread throughout.
>>
>It’s great on the road.
>Yes, you did read correctly that we were cruising at 85mph. We didn’t try, but others report seeing top speeds of 90mph +. That from a little 28bhp, 18lb/ft four-stroke 250 single. It gets there quickly too. There’s not much bottom end, but it likes to rev. Max power arrives at 10,000rpm.
>We didn’t test them back to back and didn’t measure top speeds independently. But to us, the WR250R feels like it has a higher top speed than the DR-Z and is certainly way more comfortable at highway speeds.

Hope she's not a womanlet. The 36" seat height is too much for most 5'4" ish chicks.

Even with the supermoto wheels and the rear lowered an inch with the factory adjustment and a one inch lower seat my girlfriend can hardly keep it upright with the ball of one of her feet down while sliding off the seat.

You can get a lowering link to get another inch out of it but beyond that you have to lower the shock internally.

>>17178248
I ride mine on the highway every day, in the fast lane, in southern california traffic at 80+mph. And I get around 65-66mpg doing it.
Not sure what you would need to do beyond that to consider it "highway capable" but in my mind it meets that description easily.

Well I rode my R6 today because the WR has a nail in the tire. My R6 is actually a less fun bike to ride on the highway.

A2 eligibility and an absurdly smooth torque curve. It's still 10hp up on the contemporary SV650 like the carbed Hornets were but those are down as well (probably for emissions reasons). The 2017s have another 5 horsepower.

My girl is 5'4" and it's really not practical. Thinking about getting her an XT250 or CRF250L and lowering it so she can learn and get comfortable then moving her on to the WRR sliding off the seat.

But that's after I get done buying and spending money on an XRR track bike.
>>
>>17178299
sell your DRZ to me

.
>>
>>17178316
But the F4i was a CBRF just like the CBR650F is.
It was sold concurrently with the CBR600RR just like the CBR650F is.

The 600F4i was the practical street oriented sport bike to the 600RR's track focused demeanor.

Only Honda shit it all up by turning the CBRF's into eurocuck training bikes and abandoned the awesome F4i performance, reliability, and value.
>>
>>17178299
If you have a DRZ already there's no need to buy a WRR for your girlfriend. They are both equivalent to each other.
>>
>>17178299
>it was noticeably lower than my DRZ, which my 5'5" GF could tip toe on both sides with the stock seat.
He has a lowered manlet seat on it.
>>
>>17178333
The f4I was the supersport of its time, though it was more streetable than others like the r6. The CBR600f series started as a good sport bike and gradually became more and more racebike-like until 2003 when the CBR600RR was released and took over that segment so the F series went back to being primarily street oriented
>>
>>17178343
Right.

And the F4i was the pinicle of the CBRF's.

Now Honda has resigned to producing eurocuck training bikes instead of decent street oriented sportbikes in the CBRF line.
>>
>>17178347
If that was really the case it would be a p-twin.
>>
>>17178347

That's what I thought. Great price, why wait, etc. So I took it around a parking lot, put my foot down a few dozen times, hopped up and down on the seat, and figured it was fine.

Then once I actualy knew how to ride at speeds greater than 30mph I realized the entire suspension needed new bearings, oil, etc, and that the engine ran like shit once it got nice and warm.

Unless you're a somewhat knowledgeable bike mechanic with the tools, knowledge, and charisma to inspect a bike and put it back together soon enough and well enough to not freak the owner the fuck out don't buy something until you've test ridden it long enough to work every gear and get the engine as hot as you possibly can. Also don't ride anything with any signs of deferred maintenance whatsover. Just walk away.

$400 is "i need a super light aerodynamic helmet for the track/muh touring" territory but you shouldn't be spending $200 on a nonfunctional fashion helmet that only conforms to DOT and has an outer shell made out of the same shit as sportbike fairings.

I'd had taken the gsr600 over the fz6 but the only ones around were in "normal used" condition vs. the showroom-condition of my fz6
That and valve checks every 6k instead of 10k

>checking your valves every 10k on an fz6
are you sure? mine was at 40km+ when I sold it and pretty sure it never had them checked.

you can leave them alone until you burn a valve or destroy one

as long as you get around to it before then it doesn't matter

Hey /dbt/ I recently got a 1995 Kawasaki Ninja 600r and was wondering if y'all know any good websites to buy tires from. Rims are stock of course.

Yeah I wear full gear including a high viz jacket when I ride. I don't fit in with cruiser riders. I have no where to call home.
