CBR500 guy here.

>1. Is it too powerful for a new rider compared to a 300?

Nope, it is pokey enough that you can get off the line quicker than most things, and it'll accelerate up to 90 with ease but it'll peter off from there. Fast enough to have fun as a novice without scaring yourself shitless.

>2. Will I ever outgrow it?

Yes, I've had mine for almost two years (European A2 license means I have to), was ready for something faster after about 6 months but that's me, some people stay on 125s for ages and are perfectly happy, it depends on what you're after really, but if you want speed you'll find it lacking with time.

>3. How different does it drive/handle compared to a 300?

It's a fair bit heavier than the 300, but what it has in weight it makes up for in power. It's not pigfat, but the 300 is quite nimble. Around a track the 500 is sitll faster though, it does handle quite admirably well for what it is.

All in all, I'd 100% recommend it over the 300. It's a great first big bike too.
>>
>>16895010
>if you respect the machine and aren't a fucking idiot.
Wow, what a clear way to tell if you have the skills necessary to ride a certain bike. It surely doesn't take into consideration how slow and difficult it would be to increase your skill when you're in fear of your vehicle, or how you'd react safely in the case of an emergency when you're too afraid of what it might do, especially when you're a new rider.

To be fair I do have one and it's not the nicest for highway riding, anything above 60mph and you're sat at annoyingly high revs, and the bike only revs to 9. It's not insufferable, I've covered hundreds of miles in a day on mine okay, but it isn't great for highway miles.

0-60 doesn't matter much in bikes. Most bikes will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Your 0-60 on a bike isn't much to brag about, compared to a car. Even fat fucks on Harleys get to 60 in that range.

Where more cc matters is 60-100. Or 60 to 120. That's where a 250 or 300 stops making power compared to a 1000 or even 600.

But overall it wouldn't matter for me, as pic related states, there's nowhere here to ride it. Most country roads, rednecks tend to go 60mph in their huge ass trucks and jeeps and ride on your ass the whole time. On a Grom I'm sure you'd be ran over or off the roads. And we have no real free off-road trails unless you go WAY out eastern KY. Most land is all fenced off for farms and private property, you risk getting pumped with bird-shot if you try. If you lived somewhere that has free land I'd say a grom is a fun investment, just not really fun here.

I gotta say the engine braking on the SV650 is huge and if you don't revmatch perfectly before a corner or if you don't have perfect throttle/clutch control you're pretty much fucked. When you try to go fast and stay in the powerband, of course.

I don't think you niggers should suggest it as a starting bike, it scares the shit out of me and it's hard to improve and concentrate on things like body position.

How's the engine braking on an i4 600 in the powerband, at 8k or whatever, compared to the SV?

pretty much all performance-oriented bikes will have twitchy throttle when chopping it on/off. git gud
>concrete things like body position
Body position is a meme. You should be focusing on your lines, throttle control, and vision instead when you're learning. It's perfectly fine to stay in line with the bike unless you're cornering to the point where ground clearance becomes an issue
>>
>>16896296
No the doggo was after market

Are you stupid by chance? Do you usually try to crash voluntarily? Because that's what is gonna happen.

Do you know what it means to ride smoothly?

both my CBR250RR and restricted SV650 were faster

the 500r is a mistake

My ultimate purpose is to drag knee and learn proper body position, I learned lines and vision when I was 10 on the bicycle lmao.

the fuck? i'd have to TRY to crash with just engine braking. do you have hams for fists? why can't you just modulate the throttle like a normal person?

None of those organizations are willing to put up the kind of financing required to field a competitive motoGP team. In their last season, Kawasaki spent about half of what Honda did
>>
>>16896297
if you have cash to burn get another set of gear where you can get off and walk and shit. and one where you are just out going hammy on spirited rides
>>

You don't need some goofy ass race suit for in town riding. A leather jacket, jeans, boots, leather gloves; shit will easily hold up in a 30mph wipeout.

>gets scared by the throttle

you have a long way to go before you should start worrying about body position and dragging knee.

Vid related, it's what you are going to turn into:

>steel frame is somehow bad
You don't know shit about motorcycles.

Steel frames are only inferior to aluminum in competitive classes that benefit from a lower weight.

Steel is actually an easier chassis material to tune chassis flex for. Switching up to the much less flexible aluminum chassis required significant advances in technology and understanding of chassis dynamics to make work well.

There's a reason steel frame bikes reign supreme in types of racing and markets when chassis flex is critical to mechanical performance. For instance flat track racers, MX and Enduro bikes, long distance cruisers, etc.

FZ6, FZ07, FZ08, FZ09, FJ09, etc.

absolutely not lol

20+ years of development on the engine and fork, which is still damping rod on the F2. the 650 is also about the same weight and power. basically the F2 is equal or worse in every aspect, in addition to being old as shit

>>
>>16896451
People figured out how to make MX bikes with aluminum frames 10+ years ago. That's not anything new.

Steel trellis frames are still pretty common and good performers, but that's very different from a regular old shitbike with a steel tube frame like an EX300 or something.
>>
>>16896469
Its not an new r1 engine thus its a piece of shit laddy :^)
>>
>>16896460
No it's not. All these faired standards are and ever have been is a standard with wind protection.

The CBR650 or any of the other bikes in this class or the 250-500cc faired bike market are simple basic general performance motorcycles.

New faggots (mainly europeons) that come from a shit displacement bike think that something 500-650 range is some beastly monster sportbike.
>>
>>16896470
I said F3 faget. And the F3 had pretty good suspension. Nice cartridge forks n shit. I bet the 650 is still damper rods.
I would easily take an outdated top-tier model over a modern shitbox model.

The FZ10 is the same thing as the FZ1. Same bike, next generation.

The FZ1 and FZ10 are simply standardized versions of the R1 concurrent to the year the bike was designed.
Adding a zero doesn't magically make it a different bike.
