Times aren't that great. Not essentially by circumstance but more from within. But it's okay. There's an extra accommodating ashtray below the radio, an electronic sunroof, power lock and windows and Honda's 4 speed automatic transmission to take with you on that late afternoon cruise. You may not like what you find inside you, but you'll love what you'll find in your Honda.

You can skip this if you want: my current car drinks too much gas and could use some new parts. The issue is that Im not comfortable driving a rare (in my town) car in a city of idiots and I feel kind of guilty racking up so many miles. I did find an EK hatch that runs for $500 and while she's not so pretty I bet I can wring every bit of life out of her until I can get some good jobs where I can afford something better. The issue is how much shit im going to get from my parents if I start driving around in a beater, even if I can fix it up myself. The engine is small and sips gas, the 5MT should still have plenty of life, and parts are plentiful and cheap, right?

TLDR: EK hatch with 180,000km ODO, cosmetic issues, exhaust manifold/gasket leak, running, as my dd beater until money comes in. Parents will give me shit. however, despite their negativity, it's easy and cheap to run and work on, right?
>>
>>16885077
I'd do it. D16s are built to eat the miles. I've only done a head gasket and timing belt on mine in the 60k+ miles I've done on it.

Yeah it was pretty bad according to him. The only way to get promoted in his store was to be a black woman with kids and welfare benefits. Then they suddenly stopped giving him and his friends hours with no reason given. I remember him saying that his next scheduled shift was mid March when he checked it at the start of February.

I bet if his horn didn't work for a while before that accident he would've steered or braked instead of pressing in the horn. I see this too often. People should move now honk later

I use this when resizing on PC. I found out though that just opening and saving the pic as is will cut the file size down a lot. The raw size is just too much.

Speaking of stuff in back, I tried cramming myself in the back of this thing. More like a three seater if everybody wants to sit "comfortably" if it did have the cushion installed, because the front passenger needs to sacrifice some room for the rear. I'm 5'11" and I can't sit straight up in the back. Maybe someone tiny would be more comfortable.
>>
>>16888916
Those aren't actually seats, they are storage bins. You can get seats from the euro and jap models though.
>>
>>16888916
Also good job on the black interior, the gray is shit and gets horrible water stains. Now get a S/C fgt.
>>
>>16888931
>>16888941
Kek, I am fully aware. The seatbelt would loop through where the light is on the US model. Thought it might be handy for carrying sober and non sober college students if need be though. Also, it's surprisingly difficult getting a 2013+ manual Zed with no nav so I took what I could get.

No super charger until this car has completed its roll as a daily for a few years though. I don't even think a Spoon LSD is worth it unless I turn T/C off all the time.

>>
>>16889851
Had a shop put two tires on the front a few days ago, a stud snapped off torquing it back up. I bought a stud and a nut, but I haven't had a chance to put it in. On my way home today someone merged into my lane without looking and I went onto the rumble strip for a solid ten seconds. When I got home I noticed a second stud was gone.
Basically, fuck me. I'm buying a dash cam tonight. That shit was scary.
>>
>>16889814
Please take those retaining screws off the rotors, they drive me nuts.
>>
>>16889886
I'm always scared of snapping a stud so I have been using a torque wrench to put my lug nuts on at 80ft/lbs. Literally the only thing I've been using that on so far. I have way worse luck with ball joints.

>touch the ball join threads the wrong way
>threads ruined, nut won't thread on

>>16889891
Agreed. Pain in the ass because they always get stuck. I removed all of mine. Hammered my screw driver onto them just in case they were stuck.

They only help with ze German cars and their retarded wheel bolts.
>>
>>16889899
A handheld impact driver (I don't know if that's what they're called lol) got them right off with no issue. But yeah, they're probably not going back on.
>>
>>16889911
Ugh I need to buy one of those. I'm using just basic tools. Such a big investment though for somebody that does all their work with HF stuff.

I had a few on my original Civic that needed to be drilled out because they were stuck on so bad.

Signed the lease for an apartment in Aurora today. Breddy nice pad. Garages available, but I probably won't rent one until winter.

0700 flight from O'Hare to Minneapolis tomorrow. Going home, gonna bump the ride height up a little bit, get the front end aligned, put two new re760's (pic related) on my TS-10's, do an oil change, get some hondabond on the spool valve bolts, fix the firewall to tilt the motor back to it's normal position/get the header to clear, throw on some new exhaust gaskets, and probably bleed the brakes while I'm at it.

Gonna be a long ass Friday. Then I'll sleep all day Saturday, pack my shit Sunday - Monday, then drive back down for the final move on Tuesday.

New job is top-tier. Worked my ass off at the worst account in my company and finally have something to show for it. Feels good, dudes.

Hey /hg/, help me choose a first car
I'm gonna be learning stick and have no car experience outside a '98 v70 and 328xi ('07?)
I can't comfortably feel the weight/shifting of the 328 without driving fast, which I think misses the point, and the v70's way too floaty 4me. Can I expect something different from Hondas?
I'm looking at 3rd and 5th gen preludes, also a crx-si and an 86 accord lxi, my budget's 2kish
>>
>>16891651
I wouldn't mess with those 80s and 90s cars, 6th gen Accord and civics are as old as I'd go, and they're both nice riding cars, especially the accord because it's quite stiff for a midsize car.
>>
>>16891670
I'd say 90's should be fine. I've had minimal problems with mine as much as I've driven it.

>>16891651
5th will have the best parts availability. CRX is a close second. Third gen Preludes are getting rare along with the 80's Accords. Any 90's Honda will be easy to learn on and take care of.
>>
>>16891670
That's discouraging to hear, is that for general safety or maintenance? I've got a serious hard on for that era of cars, but I don't know how important modern features are, or how difficult maintenance is for that matter.
>>16891678
thanks
>>
>>16891754
Saftey, and efficiency mainly, maintenence gets easier the older they go because they were simpler, look at this D16, it just wants to be worked on by you, no plastic engine cover, no nothing.
>>

That pic is a D15 from the 90s, sorry, but it's the same small ass block sitting in the engine bay.

>>16891754
No problem.

Here's how I see it. 90's Hondas have the perfect balance of simplicity and technology. The key words I hear about some 80's cars is "vacuum lines". A lot of them have a spaghetti mess of them so that can be very intimidating for somebody just getting into cars. 90's gets rid of a lot of that and has the benefit of fuel injection instead of carburetors. Though you can find 80's Hondas with fuel injection if you look hard enough.

Just look at >>16891763 and compare it to pic related. A good representation of the difference between the two decades.

That's some pretty wonky stuff, there. So it seems like 90's is the golden age and then some late 80's stuff shines through. So a 91 lude si would be a good option in that case?
>>
>>16891912
Yeah I'd go for it. Anything with Honda's PGM-FI should be good. That's just their name for fuel injection since it was a new thing. CRX Si is also great.
>>
>>16890851

>>16888984
Oh you're a 2013, I don't even know any kits that work with it. The ECU is different from the 2011/2012 apparently, and nobody really bothered to make a new tuner.
>>
How autistic would it be to start buying stuff like oil, filters, windshield wipers, and other maintenance stuff OEM? I found a website with pretty decent deals, only a few things are slightly more expensive than aftermarket but is it worth it over just going to walmart or something
>>
>>16892597
It's always better to buy OEM maintenance items.
>>
>>16892552
Yep, because they get things like a back up camera and slightly more powerful motor and battery that makes it easier to live with.

The parts guy at a dealership, who said he's been there for thirteen years, said the whole situation with the CR-Z is one of the strangest things he'd ever seen. Dealers got very few of them, almost always less than five per year, and sometimes got none for a model year. I can't even get info pamflets about the car at any of the dealers I visited, which said parts guy confirmed was true.

And it didn't get done the way I wanted it, but oh well.

Ebay sold me a bad pressure plate, so that has put an end to the B20B DA9. I think I'll finish it in the next couple of days and sell it soon.

To fit the Yonaka 4-1 I had to cut some of the traction bar with a sawzall. That was the first catch in this project. The next being the clutch.

I'm not going to put anymore parts that I have into it, I'm just going to keep the stock parts with the B20B and sell it.

I bought a black interior from a '93 while I was back and that'll go in after I leave.

The 1990 is going to once again stay on the road and be further worked on in the future.

The cash I get from this letdown will go towards an Aztec green 1992-1993 GSR or another DA9 of sorts.

I put the P28 with S300 in my '90 today and ran the 92-01 B18A basemap. Made the powerband a lot more lively and added launch control for no reason lmao

I'll try to get some good ricebux from this '91 though. If only it was red.

Probably never gonna fix the rust, that's not even the worst of it, I'm most likely gonna keep driving it until it either can't drive anymore or I get another car and this becomes the backup. I'm hoping to import something withing the next few weeks.

230HP to the crank but it has a little more with the HKS exhaust so that's +10 at most. It's also stripped (-100lbs estimate) and a stage 2 clutch. H-he's lucky I don't want to blow up my engine by increasing the boost with the boost controller it came with. Factory is 7lbs but the controller can bring it to 15 iirc. I think it would make 320 of I had it at 15.
Pic was taken today, didn't check if it was manual but it was clean, no rust.>>16896833
