Plus I'm pretty sure I could repair those fairings, looks pretty minor. I'll have to see it more but it really does look good so far, I would keep the r3 for now too if I got it, got more than enough cash to buy it up front obviously lol

how dangerous is it riding in high winds?

i live in eastern washington where we routinely get 20+ MPH days, upwards to 40mph gusts, especially since the winds routinely are going from N> <S direction and the highways i use go EW so its cross wind.

i feel it hard in my car, but is that something you can easily compensate for on a bike?

especially if its not a steady wind but bursts

Does anyone ever get kind of superstitious about buying new stuff?
I've never been down on a bike.
I want to buy pic related since I already have those indicators and can get the grips for free, but there are obviously cheaper options out there. Spending $130 on a mirror makes me think I'll just crash instantly for some reason.
>>
>>16864545

thats the 1 thing keeping me from getting one, altho there is some non-highway routes i can take, but for general cruizing, seems like it wouldnt be fun just riding around in this climate, even tho theres literally zero precip year round mostly so roads are always clear.

but paying 10+ grand for a chopper doesnt seem fun either idk when nip bikes are 2K new
>>
>>16864557

It depends on battery/power storage technology, contrary to popular belief electric motors and how theyre controlled is already extremely mature technology.

The only new things to come out of the last 50 years is the ability to more precisely control the speed of the motor, and materials/manufacture process.

Hey guys, new rider needs some insight on a mistake:
I was going 30 and stopped at an intersection. With the clutch fully in, the engine just stopped. Could not restart it normally and had to crank the throttle while starting it to get going. Stopped later and discovered I had been riding with the choke fully open.
Did I flood the engine when I stopped?

Anyone that goes faster than 75mph on a motorcycle is not a real motorcyclist and should. No one should ride any motorcycles with more than 50hp and everyone should wear a textile oversuit, knee pads, neck condom, leg condoms, elbow pads, elbow condoms, helmet and head condom, full elbow length gloves with integrated glove condom, boots, boot condoms, chest protector, chest condom, etc. or you're not a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ and in a crash your shitty leather and CE padding will explode compared to my impenetrable textile armor that I wear to political rallies and beat people up in.

It's not about available power, it's about being forced to go slow enough to learn and not so fast that totaling the bike and yourself is a guarantee in the fastest likely crash. Which is fine for the immature kiddos who seek out sportbike forums for advice and aspire to be strip-less wheelie masters, but for the rest of us, you can do gymkhana and technical exercises on a fucking GSXR600 if you want to, it's fucking fine.

All a beginner bike has to be is light, comfy, and easy to handle. Also preferably part faired or streetfightered and set up with sliders or a cage because you don't want to send a large crack running up a $300 piece of plastic when you inevitably drop it doing your parking lot practice.

I wouldn't say this is necessarily true. Maybe if you already have tools and shit and would be paying a lot for parking in the counterfactual where you get a car. But gear is $$. Certainly a nice bike is cheaper than a nice car, but shitbox cars are probably cheaper than shitbikes--unless the shitbikes aren't running, and if you have a truck to haul them home then you're not the relevant population, are you?

Dual sport/adventure question.
I'm looking to ride mostly just logging roads in northern bc. No real technical off road stuff, and also some highway like up to Alaska.
It will be my first bike, I've ridden a scoot before and am taking a motorcycle skills course before the test to get my license. I'm 5'9" and about 170lbs.
I had been leaning towards a drz400, but in my reading have been also considering a going bigger (klr650) or smaller (wr250r) as well.
Cost isn't really a factor, I'm willing to buy new and spend up to 10k.
So obviously the question is what bike so I get? But also looking for reasoning behind it and insight as to how big a bike I should be able to handle as my first.

The deal with Insurance is that the assumption is that you will have a single-bike crash and die on impact. So there will be no property damage beyond the bike itself, and you won't be lingering around to generate ongoing physical therapy bills.

So, insurance is cheap. Super cheap if you are not insuring your own bike. Then they don't expect to have to pay anything out, ever.
>>

Call around, collect some quotes for liability-only insurance for yourself. Then reflect on how little they must pay out for those quotes to be profitable.

To expand on this, consider the folowing;

When you buy a motorcycle policy, what are the risks? That is, what would an insurance company have to pay for?

Your bike: Cheap, 12k tops. Way less than a car.
The car / fence / house you hit: How much damage can your little bike do?
Your injuries (not much if you die)
The injuries of the car driver. This will be nothing. See pic related...

This is a table if chargeable MC crashes in one state, Connecticut. Take a look at the two right columns. Total crashes for the year, and total number of people involved. Note that the rider is ALWAYS involved, so for 2008, out of 1,449 crashes, only 45 involved someone more than the rider. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that every one of those 45 people were woman with the poor judgement to get on the back of a bike.

Yeah, I have liability-only, it's cheap AF. My point is that the assumption could be
>you won't crash

actually, if you're talking liability-only, whether you die doesn't even matter, the important thing is that it's assumed that you won't fuck up other people's stuff. lots of options for this besides dying in a single vehicle crash.

yes, generally, I pulled that table out of a paper on calculating discounts for the MSF class, but the stuff in the FARS (Fatality analysis reporting system) database would probably be of more interest to you.

Hi guys euro here, I'm thinking about getting a bike to commute and short trips, but I'm not sure if I should get a cheap scooter (like a suzuki address110) or something like a cb125f, more of a bike, to say so. Any advice?
>>
>>16865599
Get a small bike, like a 125.
No one wants to fuck a guy on a shitty scooter
If you can get some nice Italian scooter though, you'll get more bit he's than someone on an s1000rr
>>
>>16865585
You have to fuck my GF for me no fewer than once per day.

Srs though nothing you can crash here for free for a few days as long as you don't steal my drugs or creep out my roommate, not that you'll meet her since she's never home.

I don't own an R3 you retard. Ask the question like you aren't in the process of jerking off to a cafe racer or phoneposting from your Camry and maybe you'll get a decent answer.

It's pretty simple, you frequently scan the mirrors (which are in your peripheral vision so this takes no effort and doesn't stop you looking up and ahead where you should) and then use the headcheck to seal the deal when you're planning on moving.

This maximizes knowledge of traffic around you and minimizes risk.

I don't expect bar end mirror users to think that hard though.
>>
>>16865650
Are you really so new at riding that you're afraid to look away from the road for .57 of a second?

Maybe if you weren't on the spectrum you'd actually enjoy intimate human interaction instead of 'dealing with it'.
No reason to think too hard about it though since you'll probably die a handholdless virgin.

Ninji 250r, ive read that frame sliders can make a small lowside worse by getting hung up on stuff a bare fairing would have just slid over.

Ie, on a forum a dude watched a bike lowside off the track and the frame slider dug into the dirt and sent the bike flipping.

Not sure if bullshit.

Ayy, that was my first bike, got it in similar condition too.

I will say though, If you have heated carbs on that one (I had a GPZ500) make sure you are super careful removing the coolant lines, they have these stupid plastic fittings that embrittle with age and are impossible to get replacements for.

Can someone explain to a greenhorn the differences between Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki motorcycles?

There are so many options for a beginner bike, but almost all guides recommend choosing one of these Japanese brands for reliability, abundance, etc.
>>
>>16866096

Honda: Boring. "You meet the nicest people on a Honda" was their actual advertising slogan for years

Kawasaki: Always fast. Don't mind much if you die. The ZX10 is the current record holder for most riders complaining about how very dead they are.

Suzuki: Has a line of street-legal racebikes. The rest of their catalog is suspect. Makes the popular memebikes "Drz-bad-big-end-bearing" and "Gs5-slow"

Yamaha: BRAAAAP! Also, Hipsters. Yamaha named their cruiser line the Virago, meaning "a domineering, violent, or bad-tempered woman"

>almost all guides recommend choosing one of these Japanese brands
So buy a KTM 390 Duke
