How do you go touring on a naked bike?

I have a couple of Motogadget m-Blaze Discs. Super clean look to them. I need to figure out how to change my mirrors up though. I want bar end mirrors, but they'd have to be some that would allow for these as well.

I'm not using any rear indicators atm (the discs are directional, so they flash front and rear) until i can find some cleaner ones I like to clean up the rear.

I hear this, but did Harley even actually market it like that? Pretty sure it's just consumers that did it.
>>
>>16819348
Not my photo, but I'd just look for waterproof rucks. You can also look for them as 24, 48, or 72 hour packs depending on how large you want it. They tend to be easier to find when searched like that seeing as they are for hiking/camping/military operations spanning whatever amount of hours.

As far as the straps, they look like ratchet straps. You crank them down and have to manually release the winch to loosen them.
>>
>>16819431
yes they do

You have to drill a hole or two, depending on your setup preference, at the bottom of the handlebar in the middle. The worst part about installing them is feeding the wires through.

>>16819494
the new RS looks so fucking good, it's really difficult to not consider trading up.

>>16819512
depends on what kind of riding you do. the fz09 is probably more comfortable for commuting/highways but it's fueling sucks. striple, particularly the R, is a more refined bike in terms of engine/suspension and has slightly lower handlebars and thus a more aggressive seating position.

Daytona is a supersport - it's uncomfortable, fast, and has sharp steering.

tldr if you use the bike every day the one you'll enjoy 98% of the time 100% of the time is the striple.
>>

It's an okay price, but I wouldn't get a vlx600 if you have had any riding experience. It will probably be as fast as the shadow, but you'll probably not be the biggest fan of 4 gears on that small of a motor.

Id look for a used vt1100 if you can find any, especially an American classic edition. Probably pretty comfy though if you're smaller, the small shadow series is p small though.

Do Jap. bike valves have a reputation for staying put? I'm still learning to wrench but the first time I checked valves on my DR350 (8k miles) they didn't need adjustment, I guess it's only a real concern on high mileage or hard ridden bikes?
>>

the first two intervals are the most important checks as theyll do most of their moving during that time. but jap engines seem to do really good at holding in spec

they can usually go past the interval and be ok. when they get hard to start, you should adjust them

Helmets are tested against impact. A lighter, comfier helmet will sustain less impact as there is less weight hitting the ground.

Assuming two helmets are rated for the same crash test, held stationary in a test chamber instead of swung around on a human neck, would you pick the lighter one or the heavier one?

Would you like to phone in a motoGP rider and ask him why he's too good for a $100 bilt helmet?
>>
>>16820834
>>16820873
Okay but for general street use the extra money spent on a $400 helmet is going to make absolutely zero difference in safety. If it's DOT rated it's DOT rated. Sorry to burst your bubble and show you that you spent way too much money on a piece of foam and plastic.
>>
>>16820932
DOT literally just means it withstands a weight being dropped on it.

DOT certification doesn't really tell you much about how a helmet will perform in a crash.

my helmet was made in 08, is it still good to use if it was only used for ~2 years
>>

9 years is a long time for a helmet, the foam is probably fairly degraded, you can get it xrayed but at this point you could probably use a new one anyway.

Loosen everything in your front end EXCEPT the lower triple clamps. That means the axle, axle clamps, top triple clamps, steering stem nut, clipons, etc.
Then bounce straight down on the bike a couple times. Unless your parts are actually bent the should naturally allign itself.
When my bike had a crooked front I found that I had bent triple clamps. I bent them back straight enough to get by, but i'll probably get new ones eventually anyway.

Okay Mr. Arai, I purchase many very expensive helmet for you.

The shit I've read suggests most of the issue with older helmets is just the gradual compression of the padding and liner from use followed by sun exposure, there's a reason Shoei recommends replacing their helmets 5 years from retail purchase and not manufacture date and it's not because the things are vacuum sealed in the back of your local store.

Some bikes hold their electrical bits in the fairings, especially the front fairing. This could be a problem with the KLRs with the big fairing on the front, since it at least has the headlight in there. For the older KLRs with more traditional dirt bike plastics, you should be able to undress it without any issue.

Nobike here. Looking at bikes in the $2500 range (ninja 250s and shit). Insurance estimates are around $1500/year for full coverage. I need full coverage if I want uninsured/underinsured and theft coverage (I'm in LA so immigrants without insurance are a huge problem here).

Am I better off going with liability for $500/year, or paying over half the cost of the bike just on insurance?

You can go 100+mph practically anywhere on a supersport. May not be a good idea but it's possible in very small spaces.
Why aren't you considering the ZX6R? The 2007-2011 599cc ZX6Rs wouldn't be my first choice for street riding but everyone praises the 636s from slightly earlier as the best "600"s for street riding from that era.
You could also get an F4i since it has slightly less aggressive ergonomics than the others and has fucktons of aftermarket since it's such a good street bike.

The best advice (as usual) is to just test ride a bunch of shit and figure out which one you like, but for me, I would get a cbr600rr from 2007 onwards then go -1/+2 on the sprockets, or just the newest gsx-r750 you can afford.

The gearing is a huge difference on the 600s it'll just make it make "more sense" on public roads.

They're nothing special imo, maybe you should test ride a couple first.

I'm going to, that being said, the only twins I would move up to would be like an sv1000 or an rvt1000 but this have much higher insurance than the fz6 for me.

Would love an fz1 but that is also rape.

Losing a phone while riding is ghey. Also I fell for the t mobile Jew so they charge 25 bucks for a sim card

I've got a scottoiler, take them off and kero bath, dry then bathe it in warm gear oil for a day every 500km with any bike/chain.

Can't clean away stretch, though.

Losing a phone while riding sucks

I know the feel. Don't ever use a RAM mount without the rubber band restraint.
>>
>>16822066
iPhone hasn't produced either an innovative phone, or a we'll proceed phone in 3 generations.

>>16822067
I love the t mobile one plan though, that unlimited data comes in clutch when I use like 16 gigs a month.

I just crashed a few weeks ago and my phone stayed in the mount.
I think it has to do with how big your phone is and if you have a case
>>
>>16822078
Better than losing your wallet while riding and having all your ID and cards stolen.. Took 3 months to get them all back.
>>
>>16822097
I was at the dealership recently, I am so tempted to drop a ton of money on a ram mount and the ram mount dangling cupholder for my next bike
>>
>>16822075
I just lost my month old phone while doing a wheelie on the Golden Gate Bridge. Shit was gut wrenching.

>>16822097
My phone was in a nice case and was large enough that it barely fit in the X grip. Shit seems random desu.
>>
>>16822095
True but all my computing has been Apple for a decade so I'm too far in to their infrastructure to switch to anything else. I'm sure android is great desu but I just have too much invested in to Apple at this point.
>>16822097
That phone was after hitting a pothole. It was a standard iPhone 6 in a mophie juice pack plus. Case was pretty thicc desu and I think that had something to do with the phone going flying. I religiously use the extra rubber band restraint now on my 7+ to prevent that same shit from happening. I would go to a rokform setup but my new mophie juice pack uses wireless charging and I don't wanna risk the wireless charging not working because of the locking piece glued on to the case.
>>
>>16822109
Holy shit that sucks, I always zip mine up in my jacket pocket or put it in the tail box.

>>16822120
fugg i count myself lucky
it did move over onto my volume rocker tho and started blasting NMH thru my sena while my head was in a bush, lol
>>
>>16822123
That's sunk cost unless you make money from Apple products. If you only use the devices for personal use that is more of a mental barrier than anything else.

>>16822109
That blows.

>>16822120
How hard have you gone a the farkles for the 701?
>>
Just out of curiosity for the people who lost their phones out of X grips, how vertical was the phone? I've got an x grip on the triple clamp of my daytona and the phone is nearly flat. Never had a problems from massive bumps or wheelies.

Yeah I almost always have it zipped up in my jacket pocket, but I absent mindedly put it in my back pocket after fueling up.

Noticed it was gone 20 minutes later and spent 2 hours searching for it in the dark. Showed up at a police station a month later with all the cards gone except for some business and grocery store cards.
