Showa Big-Piston forks

The compression and rebound adjusters are both on the cap of the fork, preload on the leg.

They're good forks but right now the valving on them is blown and I'm taking the opportunity to either get the Racetech Gold Valves installed or I'll spend a bit more and buy the Ohlins 30mm drop-in cartridges and TTX rear shock

Welcome to 2016 bro. it's not the 1930's and we don't have to deal with shit tier engine designs out of necessity anymore.

>If a flat twin is too wide for you, you might consider taking lessons.

>it's not the 1930's and we don't have to deal with shit tier engine designs out of necessity anymore.
Then why do you use a car engine in your bike?
>>
>>14176375
No way. They are torque monsters! TORQUE MONSTERS
>>
>>14176381
That's just all part of the adventure. Of course it's gonna be shitty as fuck at some points. But that's when you just have to continue an see and experience the amazing things the world has to offer.
Then when you're done you're going to look back at what a wonderful time you had.
>>
>>14176383
You seem confused. The reason things like Vtwins and thumpers were used originally in bikes is because technology was so shit it was literally impossible to practically fit a better engine design.

We are not held back by those limitations anymore.

And flat motors in motorcycles are just shit all around. Heavy, wide, complicated, space/material inefficient, etc.

There is nothing good or appealing about your mile wide or piece of shit rattle trap "motorcycle engines" over a modern smooth 3+ cylinder motorcycle engine.

Hell, a valid argument would be to try to argue in favor of the parallel twin, the only sub 3 cylinder engine design that actually makes sense. But you're not smart enough to make that argument.
>>
>>14176390
So it's like boot camp.

>>14176388
>implying you can't make a parallel twin, inline 3, inline 4, V3, V4, or V5 engine make gobs of torque with correct cam/head design and bore/stroke ratio.

Protip: cylinder orientation does not dictate torque output. Only power pulse pattern, and a parallel twin can have the same power pulse pattern and same torque in a more compact form factor.
>>
>>14176401
I see you never service MY bike
>>
>>14176403
Let me guess, it require taking off a lot of shit before you can check your valves
>>
>>14176401
I actually do.
It's very seldom you need access to the heads. When you do (say every 24,000 miles for a valve lash check) it's trivial to undo the four bolts holding the tank and remove the airbox/throttle body assembly.
>>
>>14176402
>Only power pulse pattern, and a parallel twin can have the same power pulse pattern and same torque in a more compact form factor.
GTFO Poindexter. No body cares about cylinder orientation and your feels about it.
They are TORQUE MONSTERS.
>>
>>14176404
If by "a bunch of shit" you mean 3-4 bolts for the tank and then the airbox. Sure.

Trivial amount of work that only has to be done every 24,000 miles or so.

Completely not worth it to deal with all the downsides of a full retard engine design for something you rarely have to do. Your argument doesn't hold up.

Don't finance a toy imo, especially if it's your first bike.

What if you have it for a month then write it off? You're stuck paying off a loan for something you can't even ride.

Not to mention you'll probably have to get full coverage insurance on whatever bike you end up with a part of the terms and conditions of the loan, which could be expensive. Like three grand a year (or more) expensive.

Tl;dr if you can't afford a bike outright you probably can't afford to ride.

I would have posted the pic, but well you know why.

You can see in this pic that the exhaust camshaft has been removed, but the intake is still in place. See the camshafts are gear driven but only to one gear then that gear is driven by the "cam chain".

Makes removal of camshafts for shim replacement stress free as you don't have to worry about keeping the chain tight since it only drives the gear which then drives the camshafts.

The V65 was a pretty scary fast bike for the time. Still respectable in straight line performance, can keep up with modern 600 supersports. Will power willie in 2nd which is pretty impressive for such a large/heavy bike.

The V45 is more manageable and still pretty quick.

Both motors are pretty bulletproof other than some oiling issues, no big deal if you take care of it. One of the smoothest running motors ever. Also shaft drive cuts out a ton of maintenance.

If you've got the money to blow, I guess you could do that.
Or you could go check out the bikes one mby one, give the owners cash in hand for a test ride, then ride them all without buying and seeing which you like.

>like i said i mean i alredy have a 82 maxim i looking to get newish but if its in my price range then i'll just have to deal with it
I mean, Harleys are piles of shit, but buy whatever you want that you can afford. I don't know your budget or financial situation.

Sup /dbt/
So I just changed a turn indicator and the spark plug and now the headlight flickers when turning the bike on
Once it's running everything works fine

kek

yes, KLR 650, DR 650 and such are gud.
>>

Did you never notice that it cut the headlight when starting before?

Most bikes have a relay that cuts the power to the lights when the starter is pushed.
>>
>>14176695
No it happened for the first time after changing that stuff
>>
>>14176673
It varies by bike and other factors, obviously.

Get some quotes and work out whether you can afford it or not.

2nd hand DR650s, KLR650s, DRZ400Es
>>
>>14176703
meh, well now you have a headlight relay mod somehow so it doesn't draw so much current when starting. Can help make a battery last an extra year, as while its dieing it doesn't need to supply so much power to run lights and starter.
>>
>>14176711
well then buy a new one lel
>>
>>14176725
That's cool then I guess
Maybe it draws less current because of the new spark plug?
The old one was in pretty shitty condition
>>14176704
One day I'll get a non-shitbike and I'll show you, /dbt/
>>
>>14176711
I see plenty of those bikes for 4k and less.

Even ones that have already been fully modified for proper adv riding.

>>
>>14176753
