Look into the likes of Basic Audio, Throbak and Monsterpiece for a wide variety of takes on classic fuzzes, Smallsound/Bigsound, Fairfield Circuitry, Mid-fi Electronics, Fuzzrocious and Fuzzhugger for more adventurous stuff. There's a ton of other good builders out there, too, but I own stuff from all of the above and they're fantastic.

Big Muffs are suited more for humbuckers and marshall-style amps. Rats are a decent starting point for single coil guitars and fender/vox-style amps.

>>
>>75045122

Make sure your thumb is placed lightly on the back of the neck (generally around the center line of the neck vertically and close to your Index finger horizontally - don't let your thumb tuck in towards your middle finger or palm), your hand loose and open and making NO contact with the neck with knuckles or palm, your fingers arched and applying pressure with the tips (NOT the pads) immediately behind the frets you're playing. Once you have the proper hand position, it just takes small individual adjustments (and, importantly, learning to feel those small adjustments) to clear the strings for a given shape.

Primarily by
not picking the ones you aren't supposed to play
. Most other damping and muting is controlled by said small adjustments with fingertip position and/or with the right hand.
>>
>>75044788
you are forgetting George&Leo guitars

I made a video that I think might help. Also, you do most of your muting with your picking hand, not your fretting hand. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OL2YBgDSZoQ

Support your hand by resting it on the bridge of your guitar, like you would for palm muting. It makes being precise with your picking way easier than letting your hand float in space. And, yes, playing guitar is incredibly difficult. Get used to it.

Lower the tailpiece screws until the tailpiece literally touches the guitar before you do this so the angle is right. This supposedly increases sustain but I never noticed a difference. I just do it to prevent strings from becoming unwound.

I actually like the AX8 better. It's a bit more intuitive and hands on and the only feature you really lose is the thing where you can diasychain two amps together or some shit which is a feature nobody needs.
>>
>>75052037
I'd probably run it through my pc though so the audio interface feature is big for me for the axe 2. I already have a USB interface so I guess it wouldn't make much difference though really? Just run the ax8 into the USB and it would pretty much be the same thing I imagine

Plus having the foot switch as well is mighty handy
>>

I'm not sure. When I had mine I just played it through FRFR monitors. I think the rule of thumb is Axe FX for studio AX8 for live performance.

If you mean the strings have been cutting into the metal of the frets, take it to a luthier, but make sure to document the issues before you send it in, because if they don't fix it, you can ask them to refix the issue without having to pay them again. If you mean that the string itself is dented, just loosen the string and retighten it. It won't necessarily fix it, but it might move the bump to a place where it won't mess with your playing.

I always laugh when I see some dumb shit buy a cheap guitar and immediately start "upgrading" it. They usually start by asking for replacement pickup suggestions. It's like why, you dumb fuck? Why did you buy a guitar you didn't think sounded good to begin with? I'll tell you why: because you don't know what the fuck you're doing and you have no clue what the fuck you're after. You bought some retarded piece of shit because of how it looked in a picture on the internet and then when you got it home and actually played it ..it sounded and played like straight up ass. So you started "upgrading" it instead of admitting to yourself that you don't know shit and made a mistake, or that the guitars construction was so shitty that you didn't have any other choice but to "upgrade" it to make it a playable instrument. Here's the thing though: you could have just saved all the time and money you sank/wasted into "upgrading" a piece of shit and just bought a decent guitar to begin with. You bedroom warriors are a hilarious lot, watching you flail about trying to polish turds into diamonds. If a diamond is what you wanted why didn't you just go out and buy a diamond to begin with?

Because you're fucking stupid, that's why.

What would be wrong with learning the guitar in this way:

Take all strings off a guitar except the high E string. Play only that string for an entire year.

The next year, add the next string, play only those two strings for a year.

6 years later, you'd have learned all the strings, one by one, up to a full guitar.

Now that's a good idea.

Only problem is that's exactly what it means. The high and low E strings should fall on the outside of the polepieces on a bridge humbucker, pic related.

Retardimus Prime has a neck humbucker in the bridge and he's too fucking stupid to realize it. That's why the high and low E pole pieces are falling on the outside the strings just like they do on the humbucker in the neck.

I don't see why this wouldn't work but you would have to learn to use the strings differently each time you added one. First year would be melodies and big jumps on the fret board, picking. Second year simple harmonies and intervals. Simple chords the next year, etc.

eq and all of that is the musical equivalent of tasting wine or appreciating fine art. Expert wine tasters have been fooled with cheap wine, grape juice mixed with vodka, etc, and those who appreciate fine art have been fooled by art painted by monkeys and children. Same thing for people who act like they care so much about eq and mastering and so forth.

That said, go to a pawn shop and pick up a strat knockoff and use that to practice and experiment on until your craftsmanship is perfect. Or buy an ash tele body on eBay or something.
Sry im not much help but what you're trying to do is out of my range, but from where im at I don't think it can be pulled off well.
Last resort, beat the shit out of the instrument and go uber punk on it to where every aspect looks nigger rigged and shifty, then no one or yourself will care about what it looks like. It'd still sound like shit though.

tl;tr - Buy a blank strat body.

said after 6 years you've "learned all the strings" as if each string is played differently. It doesn't make any sense. You need to learn how to combine strings immediately or else you'll learn slower.

>You need to learn how to combine strings immediately or else you'll learn slower

This seems unsubstantiated at best and ill-considered. Most things people do in life they start with some simplified version to accelerate learning at the start. Why should musical instruments be any different?
>>
>>75072492
What would you learn with only one string? No scales, no chords. Just picking and fretting singular notes.
>>
>>75057540

Any kind of "spend years study one minute part of something" is bullshit. It doesn't take that long to get good.

Slash started playing guitar when he was 14, joined Guns N' Roses when he was 19 and recorded one of the best records of all time when he was 21.

It doesn't take six years to get awesome at guitar if you're diligent, and advising anyone to spend six years just getting accustomed to the strings is fucking retarded.

What the hell is someone going to play on the high E string for a fucking year? That's not going to accomplishment anything but discouragement. It doesn't even teach you how to finger and strum a chord, which is a crucial foundational skill.

Are you fucking stupid? Have you never played guitar before?
>>
>>75072536

>Scales don't exist on one string
>>
>>75072569
Still very limited and slows down your progress.
>>
>>75072563

I agree with the spirit, but using Slash as an example is a terrible idea.
>>
>>75072593

Why?
>>
>>75072587

But it has all the features you described after 3 years and has the advantage of a better understanding of the relationship between strings and the relationship between notes in a scale.
>>
>>75072649
>But it has all the features you described after 3 years

The problem here is you have no concept of time. After three years of diligent playing a player should have a command of all six strings and the basic chords and scales. You're encouraging extremely slow progress for no real benefit.
>>
>>75072675
This. A guy with all 6 strings from the beginning will have learned more than the other guy.
>>
Also the thread is about to die.
>>
>>75072675

You don't think they will have a better grasp of intervals on the guitar which will aid in learning chords after spending 3 years learning them than someone who has spent 3 years learning that that first fret bar chord is an F, second an F# etc?
