Any recs for a great looper pedal? Just for bedroom use, doesn't need to be super high quality. I'd like the best bang for my buck as far as my needs go.

I usually read user reviews and google things up (and I have) but I want to hear it from you guys.

I have a Jamman Solo XT and like it quite a bit, but people around here seem to prefer the Ditto loopers. I'd say it depends on what features you want. Do you want to be able to save and store loops? Do you want the ability to record loops longer than 5 minutes?

Copy Rory Gallagher and Jimmy Page and Pat Travers solos or something and muscle memory and your own ideas of what licks you like will kick in and you'll incorporate that shit into your solos.

Maybe.

That stuff is usually pentatonics sometimes with an added 9th or 6th.

Beginner here, I've noticed my biggest problem with chord changes is that I place each finger on the fretboard one at a time for certain chords which is obviously a no-no but when I try moving them all at once they're just too retarded to do it all at once

Do you know of any good exercises to help this?

Thinking about grabbing one as well. Sounds like it would be awesome for swells/pad sounds if used with a long tape delay and modulated reverb.

slowly practice this exercise with a metronome.
Play the chord, then play a muted chord (lay hand over fretboard) then play the chord again. it forces you to take your hand off and reposition over and over again.

another one I do is play the chord then take my hand off and slap my thigh then play the chord again. its such a huge movement away from the guitar I have to quickly get back and get my fingering down right

No, this mentality will make things 10x harder. Lets take D Dorian for example, DEFGABC, it's just a c major scale with D as its tonic. This means that with a major scale you can play over all modes, by knowing what makes that mode different, i.e lydian's characteristic is the #4 giving it a dreamlike sound.
>>
>>69710186
Your mentality makes it a lot more confusing for beginners. So many people trying to learn modes like that can't hear any difference and just hear C major no matter where they start from in the scale

If you start them all on the same root note and treat them like different scales people get it more easily
>>
So what's your recs for getting a dark funeral/dimmu borgir rhythm guitar sound? I have a Peavey Bandit 112, a tube screamer, fulltone gt-500, fullbore metal, and I'm playing on my Washburn PXL-10. I can get lead tremolo sounds fine, melodies almost, but getting good firm black metal rythms are where I'm lost because I'm so use to focusing on my trems with a little mid
>>
https://youtu.be/NvkQ6GZAy7k?t=78

How does he get this kind of sustain with this low gain tone? Particularly with this 3 note compound bend, I just don't see how it's possible without cranking up the distortion or cranking up the compressor, both of which ruin the dynamics of the tone. But obviously he's doing it, so it must work somehow, don't know if it's the guitar/amp combination that he's using or particular settings or what.

dear /mu/
I come to you in these dark times in search of wisdom.
I'm playing the bass through two cabs atm, one being a 210 ampeg portaflex, and the other being a ernie ball music man 212 hd, an old cabinet that I love and bought used this year, pic related.
I want to make some changes, and I have two options.

1: sell the portaflex and get the matching music man 410 used. Very hard to find, but not impossible.

2: sell both cabs and have a friend of mine build a big ass fridge, he has experience with speaker enclosures. I'll explain the project better in another post, but basically I'm still considering a 212/410 combo with all eminence speakers.

what would you do? Do any of you have ever had the pleasure of playing through the music man 410? It might help the fact that it's basically a markbass 104 HF with italian b&c speakers.
I generally play everything going from garage rock to heavily distorted stoner bass, I don't know if the music man will do the trick since I cannot try it

>>69715601
Now the other project.
It would be a single cabinet but with two separated ported spaces, the bottom one with the 212 and the top one with the 410.
Two sets of wiring, 8ohm for the 212 and 8ohm for the 410, so that I can either biamp or run two cable from the head and work at 4ohm.
The 212 section will be consisting of two 12" eminence delta, one being the 12LF for bigger low ends
The 410 section is going to be four 10" eminence 820 speakers.

Any experience with these products?
Any of you guys went this route an built their own cabinet?

>>69716215
If its like my 2i2 id recommend getting an active di box with a pad, that way you can keep the level up on the scarlett without going red. Not neccesary, but my sound quality has improved. A sans amp would do the job too if you have one laying around. If you dont like the sound of the sa just turn the blend all the way to clean.

But it wont hurt anything.

>>
>>69715693
Mixing different speakers only works if you split up the signal, so every speaker only handles a certain frequency range. What you want to do is similar to people running a 410 and a 115 cab, there is a very detailed thread about this on talkbass. You could get phase cancellation and all kinds of other issues.

>>69716722
the thing is, I've been mixing cabs for a while now
I've also read all those thread on tb, but the feeling I get from that forum is that most of the posters rarely get to test what they're advising against
but you made a good point, since adding passive crossovers to the system would prevent me from succesfully biamp
on the other hand, if I go the music man route, music man itself suggest the pairing of the 212 and the 410 cabinets to fully cover the frequency spectrum
I'd say some cabs (or some speakers) blend well together, and some don't.

I considered building a 612 or a 412 speaker cabinet, something like pic related. But I like how some 10 sound and I don't want to miss them.
Of course on the 412 I'd be putting two eminence delta LF and two regular eminence delta. Ive heard a cabe made by hope custom lab with these two speakers working together, it was AMAZING

In a nutshell by mastering all keys and imaginary pitch. Broadening your listening and improvisation to many different artists and forms, and practicing like your life depends on it.

>>69710186
>No, this mentality will make things 10x harder.
I disagree. If you think of D Dorian as C Major, your lines are going to sound like shit because you'll be emphasizing and resolving to tensions. To be playing "in" D Dorian, you should be emphasizing the D, F, A, and B notes. If you're just noodling around with the C Major shapes you know, acting like you're playing C Major, you're going to be hitting C, E, and G a lot, and likely sounding like shit.
>>
>>69718432

That gate reads your clean guitar signal, then puts all your noise producing pedals that come after it into a noise suppressing loop.
>>
>>69718711
When I first started learning modes, everyone was just like, "D dorian is just the major scale starting from the second note". This lead to problems you are talking about where you end up emphasizing the Cmaj notes and sounds bad.

Eventually I started to think of modes as just altered major or minor scales. When I think of dorian, I think of the natural minor scale with a raised 6th

Im not sure whats going on here.

So jack 1 is master volume boost+reverb on/off

Jack 2 is channel boosts which can be switched independant of eachother?

Depends on your footswitch's wiring.

Each jack will use a trs cable, two leads sharing a ground. If you have a footswitch that will take 2 trs inputs and has 4 buttons that would work. I would make my own.

If both jacks share a ground a ground you could use a 5 conductor wire with 2 trs jacks on either side so you only have to run 1 cable. It would be easier just to use 2 trs cables and zip tie them together.

Find out which contact point is ground, wire those together on the switches, then connect one of the remaining terminals on the jack to each switch.

So you have tip ring sleeve. If tip is ground, connect sleeve 1 to switch 1, ring 1 to switch 2, sleeve 2 to switch 3, ring 2 to switch 4. That will allow you to house each one in a single switch. Would probably cost you about $25 for everything.

Look at a schematic.

Also, if for some reason both amp jacks dont share a ground only tie ground together on switch 1 and 2 and then tie the other to 3 and 4
