Kanye West is doing a David Bowie covers album
Kanye fanboys (KTT, hhh) and anti-Kanye drones (reddit in general, dadrockers) are both some of the worst groups in music.
He's at the very least a decent artist with 2-3 good albums even for people who (understandably) hate Yeezus and 808s.
Even critics like Scaruffi enjoyed MBDTF and tCD.
i don't even find the fanboys that annoying
like they're just enjoying the music, and for the most part keep to themselves. have yet to see kanye fanboys make a petition to keep an artist from recording music or playing at a festival, lol.
they have a reason to believe why its not gonna work
Wrong, Scaruffi did not enjoy Kanye and neither does anybody with taste. Kanye is a fucking joke and you're legitimately an inferior person for pretending that he is anything special. He's nothing. He's scum. He's trash. He's garbage. I have listened to every single album in his discography and not ONCE have I thought, "hmm, that was original" or "what a clever line." He is undeniably a mediocre rapper, he plagiarizes most of his mediocre production, he has zero celebrity appeal, and is basically a walking talking commercial. Don't EVER post this verbal diaherra again on my board, we take music seriously here and Kanye West is NOT serious music.
The Guardian wrote a fantastic article about this. http://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2016/jan/19/kanye-west-david-bowie-covers-album
It's interesting to see the opposing side uses "here's a cover of bohemian rhapsody as a STANDARD kanye cover" and titles the article "thousands" then claims "1659 have signed at time of writing".
Metro is cancer
That's it. Kanye is finished. It was a fun ride, but he hasn't released an album since he married Kim Kardashian, and its pretty obvious that marrying her ruined him.
This is a pretty stupid career move.
I wonder if he'll chipmunk bowie samples, or maybe he'll recreate entire songs using modern hip hop sounds and production methods. I can't actually imagine him singing most of these lyrics, so maybe he'll rap similar things in his own way. I don't think it'll actually just be "covers"
Qualifier: I don't hate kanye, though I'm not a fan, and I'm only a casual appreciator of bowie.
This seems like an opportunistic attention grab to me. If it were a tribute album with a lot of artists, including kanye, doing bowie covers that would be fine, no one would bat an eye. But kanye doing an entire album of bowie covers just smacks of him trying to capitalize on the masses' collective angst over an icon's death by flinging himself peanut-head-first into someone else's limelight.
It's funny that people say the five years thing, because the song is about the end of the world. So I guess living in a Kanye West era is truly the end of all mankind
also nice trips
The rich don't typically stop accumulating money at some arbitrary "I'm rich now" line. Besides, if it isn't obvious that dollars aren't the only currency he's interested in, then you haven't been paying attention.
Is it not possible that Kanye has made a career out of attention-seeking antics? Is it not possible that anticipation for his album dropped after he released several embarrassing singles that were rejected by his fans and popular audiences? Is it not possible that he has never mentioned any interest in David Bowie until after Bowie's death and probably will never even realize this project?
Yes, it's all very fucking possible.
He can't even sing. He just pronounces the lyrics that are within his incredibly limited range and then pawns off the rest onto the audience. Goddamn. How about he produce a voice that's worth a piss.
People who are already kanye fans, or likely to be exposed to kanye's music in a positive context would buy it. Making a bowie tribute album isn't about money, it's about fame and attention. It's about hitching himself to another explosively popular artist at the very peak of his popularity. There would be nothing suspect about it if he had done so, say, two years ago. Doing it now would be capitalizing on bowie's death. It's scavenging.
>You think he doesn't know he's a shit musician with zero technical skill?
Unfortunately, yeah. He is surrounded by morons like you who keep encouraging him, so I'd be surprised if anybody ever raised the possibility that he isn't talented to him.
Jesus Christ, people are fucking assholes. Like, genuinely, cmon. I'm butthurt. If you don't like him, if you don't like his music, if you think his an overglorified overrated human embodiment of ego and asshole, that's absolutely fine. But holy shit, let the guy do something nice and considerate and show appreciation for a fuckin fellow artist. This is ridiculous dude
Go ahead and meme but you know damn well this is bullshit, he shouldn't be chastised for ATTEMPTING to make an album out of respect for an artist's career and passing. If it's shit, then wreck havoc after he releases it and give him hell. But getting pissy that he said he wants to do it is childish
I'd like to honour your dead father by doing what he did best, fucking your mother. It's just something nice I'd like to do for him. Hope you don't mind, even if you did lol who cares.
That's a flawed analogy and you know it. Fair point, he'll probably fuck it up and piss on Bowie's grave by doing so, but you guys love making fun of Kanye so much, won't that just be another good reason to shit on him? Imagine how long you could hold that piece of shit over the heads of memerappers like "look, look child. Look what your puny god did".
Yeah man fuck the raps, bring back the real music!!!!1!1!1!! It ain't even art man!!!1!!!!1!!!1 No one can make music unless I greenlight it so we can all have the same exact tastes and make anyone with different tastes feel bad because we're insecure with our own!!!1!1!1!2!1!!
>make an album out of respect for an artist's career and passing
yeah must be a coincidence that Mr Pay Attention to Me waited til Bowies death to release this "respectful tribute" huh? the body isn't even cold yet and he's already riding on the fan's mourning.
if you think this is a true "respectful" tribute and not a cheap cash grab, I have bad news for you
>must be a coincidence he's making a tribute album NOW, huh?? HUH???
Uh no. He died. Tributes are pretty appropriate after someone has passed, friend. You guys might be reading to far into this. He already has attention from GOOD Friday, SWISH, Kim and his newborn son, and his fashion line rn
Man, I truly do feel sorry for Kanye West. The media has brainwashed people so hard that he LITERALLY can't do anything to make anyone happy. They will look at anything he does, no matter how positive, and turn it into a negative. Do people have nothing better to do with their time? Jesus Christ.
Are you literally 14? This sounds like it came straight from a rockist.
He doesn't. Damn, him and his wife vowed to donate 1,000 pairs of shoes and people in the comments were destroying him. Just for trying to dos something nice.
...I just said that I know he isn't a talented singer
he knows it too, he's said it very clearly in many interviews
why are you still telling me this like it's news
are you fucking retarded or what
I've been with Kanye since CD. You should be used to assmad white people trying to shit on him and bring him down. A nigga is the greatest rockstar alive in a time where rock has lost relevance, Nd it makes people mad as fuck. Reminder that Kanye told the truth about George Bush on live television a little over ten years ago. This is nothing new.
It just goes to show how easy it is for the media and paparazzi to destroy someones life.
If you're not talking about Kanye, lets talk about Charlie Sheen. The dude is probably riddled with depression and he has an obvious drug and alcohol problem.
Let's not leave him be, lets harass the fuck out of him and chastise him for every single fucking thing he does. God I hate the media.
>literally missing the whole fucking point
Its his own fucking fault that people hate them so much, this is the part u don't get
>b-but he's just a humble musician
No he isn't. He is a narcissistic, borderline autistic egomaniac who thrives on attention, exact same thing with his goblin no talent wife who is famous for who knows what. So when they go "OK PEOOPLE WE ARE GOING TO DO X THING" of fucking course people's first reaction is to treat it as just another attention whoring scheme, because SURPRISE, that's what they fucking do.
If it had been say, any other of the gorillion rappers/artists who don't have to constantly shove their ape face and misuses "big words" in everyone's face, then the reaction would've been a whole lot different. But this is Kanye, the King of Attention Whores, so of fucking course people will first react with disdain, you fucking KTT drone
>let the guy do something nice and considerate and show appreciation for a fuckin fellow artist.
By releasing an album of covers, which he's gonna charge for wew.
I don't even see the similarity between Bowie and Kanye, I can see similarity with Bowie and GaGa, but Kanye?!
I have literally never, ever used that site you dumb cunt. Besides, even if I did, would it matter? Generalising an entire fan base is fucking retarded and you should feel stupid for even mentioning it you childish fuck.
>implying there has ever been any other album close to the magnitude of MBDTF.
The difference is Bowies costumes were tame. Lady GaGa's were shock value for the sake of shock value. She think's she's a hero, but she's done fuck all for society.
60 people IIRC
and it didn't even matter. all that hard work, kanye shat on by mixing the album loud as fuck, simply because Jay z's album came out a few weeks earlier, and kanye wanted it to be louder
literally king of insecurity
People who hate Kanye West don't realise they've been spoon fed garbage by the media. It's actually incredibly easy to be swayed by them. I'm sure I have to an extent on one topic or another. The fact that people are so easy to brainwash shit that the TV tells them is astounding.
Incredible. And I'm sure Kanye West is the only person to have ever worked with other artists. Ever heard of constructive criticism? Ever heard of working in groups to get different ideas flowing? Ever heard of work you fucking neet cunt.
>Jay-Z is his best friend you fucking faggot
that is besides the fucking point you stupid nigger. Kanye is still an insecure retard who has an inferiority complex, SPECIALLY regarding Jay Z. Have it ever crossed your little brain that they can be "friends" and Kanye can still be the pathetic insecure manlet he is?
christ kanyefags are so fucking stupid
>I'm sure Kanye West is the only person to have ever worked with other artists.
Kanye rarely even "works" on his music you fucking retard. His camp, and even himself, have admitted he's more of a "curator" these days aka ALRIGHT PEOPLE MAKE ME A BEAT I'LL BE BACK BY 5 I BETTER LIKE IT BTW
>The difference is Bowies costumes were tame.
I suppose in general his costumes were tame in a non-sexual way but they were still shocking and flamboyant for the time and like Gaga, done for a reaction none the less.
Thinking back I can't really think of a single artist that came after bowie who had the same kind of shock value in terms of dress/style sense that raised eyebrows like Bowie did other than punk/glam and then came Boy George in the 80's, again highly influenced by Bowie, though his shock value was more down to being an openly gay guy, caked in makeup wearing womens/flamboyant clothes during an era of rampant AIDS/HIV synth-pop and poodle-rock.
no, I don't, that's why I am quoting what came from the horse's mouth
>"I love that album so much, I love the production, and I love the way it feels-- but does it have to be so hot?" It literally sounds lower-fi than it probably did when they were working on it because it's mastered so fucking hot. I was like, "Why did you do that?" And he was like, "That's just what Kanye wants. He just wants it to be louder than Jay's album." I love that.
literally ruining his masterpiece's dynamic range simply because he is an insecure nigger lmfao
>The difference is Bowies costumes were tame
are you out of your fucking mind? Bowie costumes and persona were absolutely outrageous for that era. That was the entire point. Gaga's seem more b/c in comparison Bowie's are now tame as fuck. But that wasn't the case back then
How am I baiting? And this has NOTHING to do with tastes dude, don't be a dick. You know this is fucked up as well as I do. It's just the principal of boxing in art. And you can shitpost like
"LOL YEA NIGGERS YELLING OVER A LOOP OF JAMES BROWN WITH SOME DRUMS IS ART KEKEKEKEKEK"
But you know exactly what I mean. Everyone and anyone should be able to make whatever music they want, regardless of quality.
He may not charge for it, I doubt he will actually.
You know how much money Ye could be making off of GOOD Fridays right now?! If he does charge for it, then you may have a point there, but it's still considerate. He didn't do this when Michael Jackson died, who was like his hero, and he could've done a cover album of Michael way better than he could for Bowie, AND that would have sold like hell, so that leads me to believe this isn't for monitory gain or publicity.
>That might be tame nowadays but it certainly wasn't during the early 70's, lad
I know, I was born in the 70's.
But again, my point was in general Bowies costumes were tame in a non-sexual way
Not the keywords here "in general"
Kanye fans are generally mature people, every fanbase has its dark side, but threads like these are the threads that make /mu/ a walking, talking dark side for music. Why must we generalize fans as immature when we know damn well there's simply too many different opinions to truly pick out "annoying fans" ...
Yes, there is annoying fan bases with annoying poeple, but if you were really any more reasonable than them, you wouldn't care.
David Bowie turned marketing into the essence of his art. All great phenomena of popular music, from Elvis Presley to the Beatles, had been, first and foremost, marketing phenomena (just like Coca Cola and Barbie before them); however, Bowie turned that into an art of its own. With Bowie the science of marketing becomes art; art and marketing become one. There were intellectuals who had proclaimed this theory in rebellious terms. Bowie was, in many ways, the heir, no matter how perverted, of Andy Warhol's pop art and of the underground culture of the 1960s. He adopted some of the most blaspheme issues and turned them upside down to make them precisely what they had been designed to fight: a commodity.
Bowie was a protagonist of his times, although a poor musician: to say that Bowie is a musician is like saying that Nero was a harp player (a fact that is technically true, but misleading). Bowie embodies the quintessence of artificial art, raises futulity to paradigm, focuses on the phenomenon rather than the content, makes irrelevant the relevant, and, thus, is the epitome of everything that went wrong with rock music.
The Petition Era has to end. Nothing ever comes from these dumb fucking petitions. I have yet to see a single petition accomplish jack shit other than show how butthurt the people who made it and signed it are.
Each element of his art is the emblem of a true artistic movement; however, the ensemble of those emblems constitutes no more than a puzzle, no matter how intriguing, of symbols, a roll of incoherent images projected against the wall at twice the speed, a dictionary of terms rather than a poem, and, in the best of hypotheses, a documentary of the cultural fads of his era.
Reading the chronicles of his times, it is clear that what caused sensation was the show, not the music. The show that Bowie set up was undoubtedly in sync with the avantgarde, as it fused theater, mime, cinema, visual art, literature and music. However, Bowie merely recycled what had been going on for years in the British underground, in particular what had been popularized by the psychedelic bands of 1967. And he turned it into a commodity: whichever way you look at his oeuvre, this is the real merit of it.
