How do I become a composer?
too much practice
Hey /mu/ so i play guitar and i'm trying to start a band, i have some trouble with chord progressions and "keep out" of the simple stuff, like my songs are only part A and part B, someone have like a book or some reading material for beginners?
>Also music theory general
>>74253117
try to base your progressions on bass movements for more variety and nice results
>>74253175
Nice, but you have maybe some example to relate?
>>74253224
Much of Brian Wilson's work with The Beach Boys, particularly around Pet Sounds and Smile. God Only Knows has some clever chord movements which are pretty much controlled by bass. Surf's Up sparkles ordinary chord progressions by using bass notes that are not parts of triads, extending them, but from the bottom.
is it weird to not give a fuck about vocals and lyrics? i feel like most of the appreciation /mu/-core albums get is based on the lyrical content instead of the musical content, so i just can't relate to it.
i listen to mainly instrumental electronic music but a lot of the albums i get recommended here are pretty good for the first minute of each track but repeats the same musical phrase to oblivion or has almost no development to it. is there any instrumental music that doesn't get bland and repetitive after the first 60 seconds or so? or am i just not "getting it"? am i not noticing the subtle changes? do i just need to be more patient?
can i get some recs?
pic related: top 4 albums didn't click after 5-ish listens, bottom 4 clicked on first listen.
