Berrow does it again. Daring Do just doesn't work as a character. Her adventures just don't really mesh well with the show I feel. She writes to tell a story like she's writing a book, and fails to write in such a way that's mindful of the visual element. Plus, the humor was lacking. I can't even remember a single joke from the ep.

Overall, I give it a C+, except Somny's part which I give an A-, taking points away only because she didn't get a voice and we didn't get a pawshot of the sphinx
I'm debating on whether or not I should do my episode request today for this one, kinda don't want to partly because I wasn't really feeling it and partly because yesterday's request took a lot out of me. But, people are talking about it right now, so I'm not sure to just give in to peer pressure or not.

Just saw the episode. I enjoyed it. The the legend with the Sphinx was lots of fun and I loved how Pinkie was characterized. In fact, with the exception of Rock Solid Friendship, Pinkie has been pretty good in most of her appearances this season but this one was the best. My only major problem with the episode was how awkward the kidnap of Rainbow was. It was all out in the open and her friends who were right near by didn't notice? And Rainbow didn't even put up a fight? It felt weird. I also thought that Caballeron's dialogue was kind of awkward at times but that's par for the course for Daring Do episodes.

I'd give this an 8/10 overall.

But that's not what I said, nor what happens in the scene. Dash and Caballeron were alone when Caballeron confessed, Dash should have escaped to alert Daring Do, but instead she waits until she's surrounded. It's not that she doesn't fight back when she's outnumbered, it's that she simply surrenders, and it doesn't make sense. I'm convinced that that was an animation flaw, not a writing flaw.

A terribly generic, uninspired love story between two characters I know nothing about and don't really care about. Apple kids just go from one pony to another to collect all the pieces like it's a slenderman game, and the more you think about the episode the more it falls apart. Song didn't really catch my fancy either. There are only a few character moments - like Big Mac asking that wood pony to tell them more stories - in a feels episode, not really any jokes, nothing exciting happens, and the story is okay only if you don't think about it. It's average.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand mlp. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Twilight's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily fromNarodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike mlp truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Dash's existencial catchphrase "20% Cooler," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Big Jim's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Rarity tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I don't care about the parents because they don't matter. They're all but confirmed to be dead, the kids apparently know next to nothing about them, they don't matter in the present. I'm not invested in knowing about their characters and background as much as I'm not invested in knowing about the character and background of Saffron, because they're on the same level of importance. Single episode characters that won't matter outside of it and that we'll probably never see again unless they appear for continuity points.

I mean yes, cool, we now know what the parents look like and what their names are. Hasbro could've tweeted that and the end result would've been the same.

And not only are they one-off unimportant characters, they're actually boring and bland characters too. Both of them are simply very nice ponies who love each other very much, but their parents don't. That's all we get. And I find that pretty boring.
