the shading looks bad in certain scenes. There a few times where characters almost look 'embossed' which is bizarre. See Rarity in pic related. It's like the shading was 'reversed' on her horn and face near her mane. Her mane itself also looks kind of strange. It's weird and kind of jarring. I'm hoping it's just something wrong with the trailer like the first short clip we got weeks ago. One of the animators or someone said on twitter it was a rendering problem. I'm hoping the same thing happened here

I'm feeling pretty mixed about it. The animation looks pretty good and most of the new characters don't seem all that bad, but it looks like it'll be filled with endless cliches, generic fanfic villains and too much lazy comic relief. I can already imagine what the CinemaSins video will be like
Then again, what do I expect from a movie geared towards kids. As long as it surpasses expectations for a kid's movie of its type, and at least meets our expectations as well, I'll be happy.

Well, I have to say, the animation takes some getting used to but it's actually quite good once my eyes and brain adjust to seeing the characters looking like that. I actually had to watch the trailer a couple of times before I had adapted but it really does look quite nice for hte most part.
Grubber bothers me, villain comic relief can be good but only in moderation, he better get knocked off or become good early on in the movie or it's going to kill all sense of tension.
Everything else seems fine honestly, I'm genuinely pretty excited to see this in theatres, my main worry at the moment is that the movie might end up being a bit tonally conflicted between light hearted jokes and villainous peril.

Goddamnit, talking about spoilers, lets look here: Twilight is holding Storm king's staff. The other 5 are coming up to cheer and hug twilight while she looks at them tearfully and wearily.

This is fucking 10 seconds after the climax: Twilight wouldn't be holding Storm king's staff if she hadn't just beaten him-- and the fact that the other 5 are coming up to give her a congratulations hug while looking completely fresh pretty clearly shows that Twilight probably solo'd him, though possibly with help from Tempest given the earlier scene of twilight and tempest being hugged by storm king.

It's like someone playing Sonic games and being upset Sonic is in them.

It honestly feels bad in every way.
Why go from a solid flash style animation to a choppy 2.5D style where you can count the polygons or see the bloom erroneously render onto the background? Because Flash isn't industry standard or something? Some movies back around ~2000 era like Sinbad Legend of the Seven Seas looks 10 times better than this current style, so something has failed. People are freaking gushing over it all when it's the most uncanny thing I've ever seen.

What's with the antagonist cast? I want to be interested in the antagonist broken edgelord horn unicorn lady but her stupid Le Fou type minion ruins every moment this is possible.

I don't get what this pandering is. It's going for the bronies/parents with the action scenes, and then going to the girls with the underwater scenes. Why can't they just make a solid, consistent movie, like how the show was just a solid, consistent show back when the fandom was at its peak?

I'm off the McCarthy train forever. This movie will sell well because every brony and their mother, and every daughter, is going to watch it, but it sure as hell isn't going to hold up as a good film.

Think of the amount of shit the Pokemon, Starfox and Sonic fandoms have endured. Would I call any of these fandoms dead? No, not really. Seen better days? For sure, but they're still kicking and tons of new content gets made for them every day. The fact of the matter is, after a certain point, the quality of the source material doesn't really matter. I imagine the trailer was mostly thrown together by marketing without much care for what scenes are "finished". I would be quite suprised if much stuff like this survives final editing and touch up. Mind you, there are going to be at least a few hiccups, but they're not going to be on this level.
