You seem to stick to a safe spot quite often and though you may get good at that level, I fell you would improve even more if you tried to push your own boundaries a little more. Your lines are sketchy, your lighting is often oversaturated with inconsistent sourcing, you have a weak grasp of depth and perspective. Anatomy is often questionable and those ears look stupid. You sometimes draw really nice eyes though.

That pone is fairly nice but the hair shading is blocky/unappealing and the bent forelimbs angle is extremely awkward [equivalent to resting your elbow against your breastbone]. Also lots of missed pixels in your colouring, which is very weird to see on an image so large downscaled to whatever the fuck resolution this expanded thumbnail is.

In general i'd say you skipped ahead on some of your fundamentals to get into a lazy shaded style. Do you have any show accurate pony drawings, for reference?

I'm not sure if anyone gives a shit about it, but I went to Babscon, and felt really energized by it and it got me wanting to revive the drama/shit-show that was You Get to Name the CYOA (aka Longname). I'm not sure if anyone would want it back though, given that its like, a year old and probably left bitter tastes in people's mouths. Still, I was able to find all my old notes and the archives still have it. So I guess I'll just put it out there and see if you fine fellows would be interested in dusting that book off.

No, the people at the start rolled up dark secrete, and then chose to have it revealed at a later date. It would be discourteous to the people who had been there from the start to retcon. I do believe it would have been better to just lay out what the dark-secret was from the beginning, but it was there from the beginning and was an integral part of the setting at that point.

I understand that as a CYOA it is rather grim, and that it has a lot less self-instert and more green-text 'chose choices for a stand alone character''; many people aren't comfortable with my style of CYOA/GMing. The optimum outcome would have come from just not letting people vote to reveal the Dark Secret later, and just tell people from the start what her dark secret was, and then just expand on in in the flashback. The flash back was over at that point anyways, so the present would be where the CYOA would resume.

Etherbreeze was absolute shit at magic for the first two years of school, but after Etherwing awakened she got really good at it and made the deans list. At graduation the dean listers go to perform a practicum of incredibly difficult magic, which was attended by some of the most influential ponies in Canterlot (and thus could bring great glory or shame for the families involved). It just so happened that the dean of the school managed to get Twilight herself to attend the practicum so it was super high stakes (especially since Etherbreeze has self-esteem issues due to her mother hating the shit out of her since her father gave up his life-long ambitions to keep her, a unicorn, as a child in Cloudsdale).

Her practicum involved dual-casting spells with a partner (Emberspark). During the casting she fucked up and the spell was about to explode and probably engulf the entire atrium in liquid fire. Then in a bit of an internal time stop, Etherwing convinced her that if she just let her handle things, she could fix it all. She relented and gave Etherwing control of the spell, and Etherwing used the connection to devour most of Emberspark's cutie mark (leaving just the mark itself, and giving herself a cutie mark in the process) and using the power to brute-force fix the spell.

Due to all the magic happening, Twilight thought that the haywire spell had just burnt out Emberspark and didn't suspect intentional dark magic.

Thanks, anon. Since the creation of that pic, I have worked on a lot of the things you've mentioned, namely the perspective and the ears. I've also been trying a different mane style that I think looks a lot better. I think the Tara pic I drew a few days ago it a much better representation of where my current abilities lie, but I definitely still see some of the issues that you brought up. I'll continue to work on perspective, and the issue with inconsistent anatomy. I could bring up a bunch of examples of good perspective drawings that I have done, but they're all things like rooms and cityscapes and stuff, and I do have to admit that I have been slacking in applying my perspective knowledge to pone.

The tara's better, but bat wings don't work like that (i know the show does it kinda weird like that so I guess it's a preference, but still it wouldn't hurt to learn how it works).
Your shading would look better if it weren't done in blacks so much, try messing with colour theory, highlight in warmer colours and shade in cooler. Also sometimes the shading seems too gradual in places it should be, if that makes sense.

If you let your players do anything and everything you run the risk of losing the more serious players at best or stagnating the quest to the point where you have to manually reset or railroad it back into something playable at worst.
