Have you tried shading basic shapes like sphere and boxes using greyscale only? It's a good place to start. Spheres and cylinders are good for practicing soft edges and pyramids/boxes/cubes are good for understanding hard edges. (pic related) is old and I haven't shaded basic shapes since. I may do so tonight just for fun.

Personally i'm putting color studies on the backburner since I feel my basics and fundamentals are weak. I may do some basic shading using greyscale but that's probably it for a while. If I can't even get my forms right then what's the point of putting sprinkles on a turd, ya know?

I think part of the issue with drawing OCs is that the artist doesn't have much to go on other than the superficial look of the character. My favorite pones to draw all have a lot of personality because I can put them in appropriate situations.

With an OC its difficult to just make shit up on the fly. If you just want it drawn making a generic pose or a portrait you should make that more clear.

I'm sure there are plenty of $10 artists on DA who would gladly draw your OC.

Short story shorter: Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the draw thread's tendency to catch my eye once a day for ~2 years. I finally got the lead out and decided to do something other than scribbles or blatant tracing tonight.

Not even completed, but this small exercise has brought me to a point where I no longer associate the idea of drawing with a sensation of inadequacy and failure. Now it's more of an interest and a goal for me, as opposed to something I lazily wish I had the testicular fortitude to just try and learn.

Hopefully I'll get good enough to start giving something back to the fandom in stead of just lurking and freeloading.

I couldn't fix this without redrawing it a bit so I just put that off to the side using your proportions and style as best as I could rather than mine or the show's. Basically you should draw the joints in the arms/legs, work on a straight and pointy horn, and unflattening the face + giving the hair mass. I also picked out some of the tutorials and included them as reference for this. Hopefully this helps you out

I'm not sure what that means. A lot of times when you draw something and come back to it hours later it'll look different because your eyes have had a chance to rest. You'll notice mistakes that you didn't see before.

If you're going to be erasing a lot you need to learn to draw lighter or use a harder quality graphite. You're baring down on the paper way too hard. Developing a light touch takes time.
