I'll add a few. Remain consistent, as in upload something every one or 2 days.
Make sure you enjoy what your doing, and don't get flustered if people don't like the direction your taking or a change you decided to make. If it gets stale change it or move on to something else.
Interact with the other tumblrs, I'm talking gift arts, character appearances, follower milestones, contests, etc.
Put your work EVERYWHERE, Tumblr, Inkbunny, FA, dA, Facebook, etc. ALWAYS give a clear link or blurb back to said Tumblr or wherever you decide to dump your work.
Smut is where you get get the most business.
When you actually do get a commission make sure you're getting paid what your worth, starting low is a terrible idea and gets people angry when you have to raise your prices to something somewhat decent in order to adjust for increased demand. Make sure you take into account the amount of time you spend on it, and remember anything below hourly minimum wage is not worth your time.
And finally, don't be afraid to advertise and ask for commissions.
That's what I've been doing and so far it's been working out relatively well.
