***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

GROUPBUILD POLL CLOSING WHEN
Finally got around to ordering this guy. Long overdue considering the Zaku II is possibly my favorite MS.
>>15596044
NOWResults for the other polls will be up shortly
What is the worst kit you guys have built? For me it has to be V-Dash ver ka. If you fucking look at it wrong it breaks apart, I am scared to even touch it because it is so unstable. Can barely hold it's small rifle and even just an idle pose is frustrating. It's not just me either, I've never heard good things about this kit outside of people just liking Victory's look in general.
>>15596063
>>15596067
>seeing a coke can for scale that isn't next to a dick
>>15596062
>Thick build is on
Yes.
>Thick build on /m/
>Frame Arms build on /toy/
>GBWC project
This is going to be a hectic but fun summer for building.
So answer me this guys.
AOZ Advanced Xekueins, J. Ridden Geara Doga custom, or figure something out with Searpent Custom?
First up is the results of the QOL poll I asked to guys to do on how these things are going and what kind of builders /m/ has. The reason why the first option is missing a response is because shortly after making it public I changed the rankings asides from 1/5 to just be numerical instead of a defined skill level.
>>15596083
Serpent Custom...Custom... DO IT.
Finally we have the "Winner" of the Melee groupbuild. Congrats to the builder of theKiller Kabutofor taking first
SazabiAnon here with a WIP shot of my first HG kitbash.
I'm looking for a cheap way that I can get a pair of swing arm shields. I'd like to not drop $20 on a Powered GM Cardigan or Thunderbolt kit. I also don't have any experience with pla plate.
Any tutorials or cheap kits out there that would be up my alley?
Does anyone use a printer for custom gunpla parts here? do you think its worth buying a cheap printer for that?
>>15596062
>planned to reluctantly star learning too gitgud at modeling if thicc won
>family gathering coming up soon, and my folks want me to stay with them for a month after I fly in
I'm not sure if I can get my kit done because I have no idea how to paint/plaplate/putty/etc.but damn it I'm going to try. At least now I have an excuse to check out that Gunpla shop.
>>15596062
Fug.
Oh well I'll just have to campaign hard for the civvie build next time. Maybe this will give me the drive to build that 1/100 Virtue I have laying around. Who knows maybe I'll try out this whole plaplate thing on it.
>>15596114
That's the way to be anon. Thiccen up that thiccest boi to thiccer and thiccer heights!!!
anyone here ever paint this fucker? The armor for the arms and legs are two halves of a peg that go through a slot in the joint. kinda like an older kit I guess?
>>15596129
Kits like this look so good OOB already that I don't even bother. What improvement could you add here unless you're going for something specific?
>>15596101
Hgbc sets. Specifically powered arms powerder, battle arms, skull weapon, or even bolden arms if you just need the manipulator arms and not shields. They each come with parts to make articulated swing arms and the pegs can plug directly into the 3mm polycap hole most shields use. The skull and battle arm sets also have little claws that can clip onto handles.
>>15596129
I hate his face why the fuck is there a piece of armor just in front of his eye
>>15596101
Do you have matching shields you want to use from the kits you have or are you looking specifically for those old EFSF shields? If the former you can buy the Powered Arms Powereder and get the folding arms.
>>15596129
Thunderbolt kits are a pain in the ass to paint due to all the different awkward seams and layers of seam welding you need to work around.
Is Tamiya Mark Fit enough for Bandai waterslides, or do you also need Mark Fit Strong?
>>15596140
Thanks! I'll look into it.
>>15596145
I've got a pair of these w/ dual gatlings. Looking to have them either on the arms or manipulators.
>>15596136
I want to remove the ugly ass seams this dude has and not have to use stickers for the caution striping. Also want to make the "knobs" on the knees and shoulder and thruster bells a brass colour.
This is the ideal mobile suit body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. Before you ask, you aren't limited to the ones here. Full Armor gundams are fine if they make the thing look sufficiently thicker than the base gundam
>>15596172
post the most slender kits for nightmare mode.
i cant think of any off the top of my head
>>15596100
>Those entries with 1 vote

>>15596172
full armor you say?
So, tell me on a scale of 1 to Red Cliff how bad is this?
>>15596206
get the whole kit done, and to you it might seem a lot better or a lot worse, depending on how your brain chemicals are treating you
>>15596206
Looks shit close up, but those imperfections will go away at normal viewing distance.
So the top looks like shit, desu. Even though I've already top-coated it, is there an way to fix this?
>>15596244
I dont think you went light enough with your coats of green. Light multiple layers of paint, my man. See if you can strip it and try again. Look up stripping paint from gunpla so you don't ruin the plastic with thinner.
If this is your first time painting, do it on a cheaper kit like a Hi-Mock or something along that price range.
>>15596254
So, for stripping I found a tip for either soaking it in rubbing alcohol or spaying with windex. Also yeah, it's my first time and this kit was only about $5 so I thought "what the hell". For the parts that are going to stay white like the limbs, would it be easier to just use white primer and topcoat that?
>>15596244
>>15596244
try brakes fluid soak it in for a day and then brush
>>15596262
Yeah, I use rubbing alcohol too, but I paint with acrylics so i didnt want to suggest it.
i never used rattlecans for gundam so maybe someone else can give input, but my baseless advice is that white primer and topcoat should work?
Anybody know if the HG Aura Battler kits are any good? Thinking of picking one up.
>>15596172
what about the dom prototype?
>>15596100
Congratulations, Killer Kabuto!
>>15596172
Finally. I have an excuse to build my DOM
>>15596172
I assume the Physalis is fair game?
>>15596299
>>15596305
Yeah those would be all fine. As long as it's not standard Gundam/Zaku proportions it'll be fine
>>15596172
What about these thighs, hips and waistskirts?
So I was watching Kawaguchi's videos, and why doesn't he paint on primed parts?
>>15596062
Aww shit son! Now, do I make my THICC tieren or that big booty Nobel mod I've been working on?
Is there any point to even trying to hand brush 1/144 Gunpla, or is it airbrush or bust? I would love to try new stuff with my Gunpla, but I can't justify buying a brush, compressor, and air hood for something I might just suck at.
>>15596100
>>15596301
Holy shit I entered this contest to see where I stack up, not really to win! Everyone did such a fantastic job, from the fire-hearted spirit of Blast Knuckle, Gutsion Full-City, and Barbatos Nataku, to the 10/10 skill of Para DX, and Survivor Zulu! Everyone, thank you so much and I hope the next build will have even crazier, tougher, and even more creative competition! Thank you all!
>>15596062
Are Doven Wolfs considered thicc?
>>15596395
How do you expect to get gud at something unless you actually do it? Buy the damn airbrush and get gud filthy goddamn scrub
>>15596395
i've never done it but as long as you dont slop it on, it should come out fine. Just thin the paint down and do light coats. No escaping having to prime though.
>>15596402
Its shit like this that reminds me why I havnt given up on /m/.
>>15596402
Holy shit, man, you drew my Gundam! Thank you so much. You definitely earned that win. Congratulations, KK!
>>15596402

>>15596607
Also a different version
>>15596611
>>15596607
Any reason why you chose orange instead of red?
>>15596611
I like this scheme better, yellow and orange shoulder thrusters look kinda garish.
However I would do away with the orange around the torso, it breaks up the color but not in a good way.
Big O ver Ka.
WHEN?

I highly doubt we will get another 1/100 O.
>>15596635
Looks clean. Maybe desaturate the red just a bit.
>>15596634
You're trying to imply that MG The O needs a ver Ka.
>>15596507

>>15596667
UWOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! (That'd be so rad)
yeah i gotta get in on this next one
So I'm making a gripping hand to hold the beam saber, and it holds guitars pretty well.
>>15596757
Make a Basara custom.
First time hand painting, but does this seem to be too thick? I'm going to clean up the edges if you guys think it looks okay.
I'm having a hard time judging what's considered too thin/thick .
>>15596835
this looks too thick imo
remember that the reason for thinning your paint is to achieve a result that doesn't look "globby" or show brush marks. It seems tedious but if you get a colour on in one or two coats, then it's probably too thin. I would say 3 is the minimum with dark colours like black, but expect to do a lot more with lighter ones. If you can get it, try using some drying retarder and maybe even a bit of flow-aid so that the paint has more time to kinda even out before drying. Also, let the paint dry for an hour between coats depending on your paint. You should never get full coverage with your first application.
Drying retarder and flow-aid aren't 100% necessary but they make things easier.
Anyone use Gundam paint markers? What are they good for? I've used metallic ones for piping and stuff but I don't get the reason for them if you're just going to paint everything anyway,
I really wanna buy this as I'm a bigfanof Frontier...
Has anyone got any experience with this kit? is it good?
>>15596901
I use them for small touch up details after I'm done spraying. If I'm feeling lazy, I use them to paint unpainted areas of a sanded snap kit.
>>15596901
i think they are just kinda beginner mode for adding small details. part of me thinks that the only ones that are relevant are the flowing ones and the pen type ones for panel lining. Only times I've heard of people using the actual paint markers are because they didn't want to use stickers or wanted to cover up nub marks.
>>15596200
I'm shining Gundam guy and I actually missed all the polls. Nice to see someone liked my mediocre paint job.
>>15596172
>had idea for both civilian and water (a civilian deep water exploration jim)
>have absolutely no clue how to do good thiq
well you guys have fun at least
>>15597046
ya got like 2 months to do it. ruminate on it a while, think a coupla days on it. Something might come to you! Hell, all the UC aquatic suits alone are p thicc, boi.
>>15596914
the build is neat, and the transformation is nice. Problem comes from the plamo plastic which isn't sturdy enough for a transforming figure. The armor is also just kind of tabbed on and wrapped around but it still feels like it might fall off. I'd get it if you really liked Frontier.
The delta stuff is much more sturdy since it's newer, but they're ugly as hell. Delta stuff also has a stupid easy transformation which helps with stability.
>>15596100
>killer kabuto winning over blast knuckle
The paint application wasn't anything compared to the builder's first beetle themed mech. The amount of people favoring its paint application is surprising.
>>15597075
Blast Knuckle here. I'm happy Kabuto won, it was my favorite entry.
>>15597082
I seem to be an outlier regardless. I didn't enter this time. Good work to everyone, I just thought yours suited the theme much better while also having a much better paint scheme, all well.
Do I dare join the contest? i just picked up a dom prototype from a store coincidentally cuz i wanted something to work on and the rest of there inventory wasn't that good, I dont even know what i would do with it, heck ive only fully completed 2 kits and i have been slowly working in pic related for months, then again i put this hobby on hiatus for exams
>>15597093
Dare anon, dare.
>>15596062
Fug yeah, thicc wins.
RG Sinanju, HG Qubeley, HG The O, or HG Dom Test Type...
Decisions!
>>15597075
Kabuto Here. I'm curious what you mean by my paint application wasn't anything compared to my first beetle. What about K.Kabuto was lacking in comparison to the Hercules special? (legit curious because I MUST IMPROVE! UWOOOOOOOO!!!)
>>15597082
Hey Blast. Thanks a lot dude. I voted for you. Much love for fist-fighters,my man.
>>15597121
The issue that I have with it is the red paint. The grey is fine, and I haven't seen your reasons for painting it the way you did, but are the red bits meant to also be weathered? Damaged in some way? It looks much too unnatural. The red paint itself doesn't look like it was layered on properly, like it's "sticky" looking in some way. It's not solid? I have a hard time describing what I'm looking at, but the red paint application looks unnatural. I think you could've chosen a better color scheme overall. That's just my two cents, though.
Thinking of doing this to ReZel.
>>15596893
Thanks. I think I'm going to strip everything, prime, and spray everything a cleaner white, and try to paint it again. It's been a while since I've done a gundam with this much white, and my panel lining is shitty.
>>15597093
I feel the same way Anon. The idea of participating in a group build seems fun to me, but there are a lot of nice customs in each competition. I don't have the infrastructure to get into painting due to apartment life, so my entry is limited to a base build with detailing painting, decal setting, and a finishing coat. I see people here say you shouldn't even post here if you are just doing a base build, so I don't imagine something like that would be welcome for the competition.
>>15596090
Professional, GBD. It looks like we could start the next groupbuild immediately or next week, if you are so inclined.
>>15596100
Oh wow, a lot of people voted for my build. Oh gosh. I really don't deserve it.
Building an MG GM Sniper II right now, is the head supposed to be unable to turn easily? same with its ability to move up and down without the weird neck thing? or did I fuck up somehow?
I have a few kits lying around, what should I start with?
>sazabi
>brave
>00 seven swords
>>15597086
Well, thank you, anon, that means a lot.
>>15596100
i dunno i would like to wait like a week for payday and shipping and such. instead of getting it the week before because of SAL and having to rush everything. but i cant speak for everyone so...
>>15597357
Is it the HG 00? That kit's a pretty quick and fun build.
It's also one of the best HGs, I don't have the seven swords version though.
So myboyfriendand I went to my local arcade and won two petit'gguy, which we went home and made. I'm an amateur who only fucks with HG/HGUC, and it was his very first gunpla, but I'm so proud of how they turned out!
>>15597142
I feel that. honestly, I don't have an airbrush, so that's all rattle cans and handpainting. The Red is spray enamel and the grey is 1-coat primer. Yes, I did weather the red bits, and I guess I was proud of it till now? Anyway, weathering the grey bits the same way proved difficult cuz the silver I was using to weather just doesn't show up well on it. Honestly, I'm completely stumped on how to make grey look weathered. Gold too. I had it unweathered like the Hercules special at one point but thought it was time to finally try my hand at gettin' in some practice at weathering. Anyway, I think I learned my lesson about only weathering one color. Should have figured out a good way to weather the grey cuz having only one color weathered confuses the viewer via inconsistency.
Thanks for the feedback, dude!
>>15597602
I think a rusty color would have shown up better on the gray.
>>15596488
As gbd showed in the example pic, you aren't even limited to gunpla.
>>15597666
would love to see one of those but ten bucks says we end up with 4 or 5 of these...
Any of you guys own VOTOMs model kits? Which ones are worth buying and do any of them have MG-style inner frames with mechanical detail? I want to try out some weathering, and ATs are absolutely perfect for that.
this is going to be a dom/zz/ibo groupbuild lol
Does Gyancelot count as thicc? That's all I got that's remotely thick, and I didn't want to buy new kits until I got through my current backlog.
>>15597702

>>15597875
not particularly
Is the Rouei THICC enough for the groupbuild?
I only have him and Helmwige to consider and the latter is mostly just top heavy rather than full on THICC.
Also have a Kimaris Vidar and he does seem to fit the bill.
>>15598248
Compared to other IBO suits, Rouei is obese.
>>15598316
I've always appreciate how Teiwaz remembered to put armor on their mobile suits' waists.
>>15598332
desu I think that the battles in IBO are rigged, that's why you never see anyone aim for the waist, despite it being out in the open and vulnerable
>>15598240
I still don't understand how Gyanko's swimsuit works,
>>15597666

>>15597702
I mean if it makes you feel any better I'm planning on entering a 1/100 VirtueIf I ever finish it that is haha.
Only thing that might get me in trouble though is that I'm planning on seeing how leaving off most of the Virtue's armour on the waist/chest looks, and I'm definitely not using the Virtue faceplate because I don't like the look of it.
>>15596101
fuuuck, thank you so much for posting that, I've been considering doing a GM Quell in AEUG colors and now I'm fucking excited
>>15598398
It's shit, what are you going to do about it ?
>>15596468
>Barbatorias
fucking nice
>>15598332
The reason they dont attack the waist is because the frame is literally that fucking durable, and the waist is the thickest part of that durable ass frame.
Most kills in IBO are strait up cockpit shots leaving most if not all of the rest of the suit intact. The only things that manage to straight up lop limbs off not at a joint are the gundams themselves and only when they are armed with top tier weaponry or are going fucking fast like when kimaris jousts through someone. or Dainslaif which is made out of the same materiel as the frame in the first place
Well the only Thick suit I got that's not built is a Rodi so I guess i'm building that. I think I'm gonna make it arctic themed. Maybe Soviet winter camo or something along those lines.
I would love to do a Kondou graze but I dont have the skill nor plaplate for that monstrosity
>>15598332
>>15598362
Mobile suit frames in IBO are made out of the kind of shit other shows would make armor out of, and the "armor" the IBO MSs have is just extra surface area for the nano-laminate coating.
The frames are super durable as it is, which is why it's not that big a deal to fully cover the entire thing.
>muh shins

Groupbuild-fag, if I used a 1/100 IBO frame with entirely scratch-built armor to make a non-Gundam mecha, would that be allowed?
>>15598560
Yes, any plastic model kit of a robot is okay.

Also is there a sort of common colorscheme for colony defense ms or should I just wing it with something vaguely EFF-ish?

That makes sense. I realized I could also check the MG and see what lines it adds, though the MG for the Physalis is really old so it didn't actually add much..

fixed
Does anyone know about how big the HG R-Gyagya is compared to an MG? I botched my 1/100 Vigna Zirah trying to improve its articulation, and I'm having a hell of a time finding a kit that would work as a base, but F91 suits are awkward sizes

I had a feeling they would be more sturdy but I agree with the ugly statement.
Thank you for the reply, I'll probably buy this when my backlog is slightly lower.
So what are the odds of this kit being a total hand grenade?
Considering on buying the Turn A/ Turn X kit.

Get the Turns
Anyone got comparison shots of which looks better on the RX-78 revive, the foil behind the clear piece, or just using the eye stickers?
>>15600112
Looking up at my Origin, my personal recommendation is to get a torso light to use with the clear piece. Otherwise go with the stickers I'd say.The eyes are actually sunk in pretty deep due to the brim of his helmet, so foil behind plastic probably won't show up that well.
>>15600112
>>15600147
Actually the foil behind the eyes of the RX-78-2 revive in particular actually looks extremely good. If is any sort of light source whatsoever they shine pretty damn brightly, can see them lit up from all the way across the room.
Fresh off the snap-log, it's the Jegan Normal type from F91. Nice kit, not much of a step-up from the regular Jegan but worth the price tag if it's less than 40$.

Last pic. I tried some really minor silver drybrushing on the beam bazooka, but you can't really tell from this picture.
And while I really like the darker color scheme, that was completely unintentional. I meant to go for a more vibrant purple to match my Zaku, but couldn't mix a purple red blue & white that didn't look too neutral.

This might be just be nitpicking, but the joints for wings on the VF25 kits are really flimsy, considering the sheer amount of plastic hanging off of it in gerwalk or battroid mode. Unironically the dumbest shit ever considering the enemies always get 1 shotted anyways
Working on my group build. Swapped the propellant tanks it comes with out for the builders parts ones. Also managed to find the missing arm piece that was bugging me. Other than scribing some more panels in a few areas I don't think I'll do much more to it.
Beginner here with a couple of questions
1. There will be a 1/100 Gundam Atlas?
2. Where do I buy 1/100 weapons? I've checked on ebay but I can only find expensive metal weapons, not packs with lot of them
>>15601078
1. Maybe but don't hold your breath.
2. Kotobukiya but scale to Bandai 1/100 is not guaranteed
>>15601078
There is no current plan announced for a 1/100 Atlas but Katoki making something wouldn't surprise me.
Bandai doesn't really make 1/100 weapon sets like they do with 1/144. Koto makes some 1/100 weapons but they are mostly sized for their own kits and can be hit or miss with gundams in terms of size.
>>15601052

Planning to buy a plastic container for storing parts as they are drying. Question is should I put holes in it for ventilation? I am also choosing where to put it as I only have a room that has no ventilation or the room I sleep in which i concerning because of the possible fumes.
>>15601107
Are you using acrylics?
Enamels and lacquers dry fast enough that this shouldn't really be a problem.
Either way, I would drill a couple of holes in the side so you can stack them.
>>15601135
>I would drill a couple of holes in the side so you can stack them
I can't picture how that would work.
I use acrylics primarily, should I be putting holes for ventilation in the containers?
>>15600869
looks like shit
Finished this like over a week ago. I should really have used brown for the preshading instead of black as the black kinda makes the shading look green, and probably not have painted the monoeye clear red because it just disappears unless it's in a really good angle.
Other than those issues I'm fairly satisfied with it as a second airbrushed and first preshaded kit.
>>15601255
>>15601255
Looks really nice. Next time paint silver behind the clear color to make it pop better and catch the light.
Also have you considered trying out chipping effects? I think it would really add to the look of that paint job and kit.
>>15601222
You can't picture how what would work? Stacking boxes or air flowing sideways?
Unless your acrylic is alcohol based, acrylics take a few minutes to be dry to the touch, multiple days for the water to dry out, and a week to cure. So if you keep them sealed up that water can't go anywhere.
>>15601281
The stacking. I imagine that the containers would stack regardless of holes.
>>15601263
Yeah I could probably have done the silver trick, question is if that's something you can handbrush in or if I need to do that with airbrush as well? I mean, brush strokes shouldn't be visible on the inside of the piece, right? Also, I'm not sure if it would look good on this particular piece due to the shape (see image).
As for weathering, I have messed around with it a little before but I find it easy to make mistakes that don't look good.
>>15601284
If the holes are on top you would most likely block the holes when stacking, wouldn't you?
>>15599215
>sfx: BSHEUW
>>15601286
On a piece that small handbrushing a little silver onto it shouldn't have any noticeable marks.

holes on top get blocked if you use multiple boxes
Anybody else getting anything from the HLJ sale, I'm getting myself a Hy-Gogg, prototype Gouf and the 1/100 Kimaris Trooper
>>15601355
Kimaris with booster and the 1/100 Gusion/Gusion Rebake, the sale brought the cost down enough for me to bite the bullet...
>>15601355
I'm looking at spending $100 easy.
>>15601355
Nothing so far. A lot of the stuff "On Sale" is pretty much exactly the same as it was pre-sale or comparable to other shops not having big discout sales. That "20% off" thing on most of them is based off the kits msrp, which is around the same amount hlj usually takes off anyways. They just basically took their old listing and stuck a big "SALE!!!" sticker on it without changing their actual price.
Outside of a couple things they have been trying to get rid of for a long time the sale is lackluster as fuck in terms of actual discounts.
>>15601355
Spent my allotted gunpla money for the month on a PG unicorn right before the sale went up. Rip
>>15601355
Nope, the sale's pretty shit. Besides, I'm already waiting for my most recent order to arrive
>>15601355
this "sale" is fucking garbage
>>15601374
I'm only looking at anything 35-40% off for that reason. On some of the kits I know exactly what they cost before the sale so I know if the sale is pointless or not for those.
>>15601355
I'm thinking about grabbing the GM III and the Mega-Shiki because they're pretty cheap. I'll probably end up grabbing another M.S.G bit too.
>>15601355
The 00 MG is extremely tempting. Problem is not much else is and I fucking hate importing for one kit.
>>15600573

Will a sealed plastic container be best for storing parts that have been gloss coated, or should I still put in ventilation holes + filter sheets on the outside?
>>15601255
>>15601259
Actually that overall Dunkelgelb color you got is kinda close enough for the African-based German tanks in WW2.
>>15601355
This sale wasn't really doing much for me. Also grabbed a GM/GM too
>>15600866
We're getting somewhere here. Not sure if there's anything else I want to add, but I do know I want to do some sort of cloth around the black of the Z'gock arm and the white tube parts of the legs.
What's the ball park I need to be shooting for when it comes to good humidity and temperature to do some painting? Running an airbrush with spray booth, but my only option is outside for now.
Wanna make sure I don't fuck this up too hard
>>15600866

Latest from the Snap-log, it's the Jegan A-type! Unlike the B-type, the newly molded fore-arm holds the shield quite well.
I've got a question about the groupbuild. If I was already working on a thicc mobile suit (seravee GNHWIB) would I still be able to enter? I finished most of the modifications last week and started painting today.
